I like it. Gameplay is solidly annoying as intended. reminds me of KSP. Needs a time limit or something to bring the game some urgency though. Other than that, good.

scalphamission 2019-04-30 03:29

I love pixels and I love space.

paul-giovannini 2019-04-30 03:34

Gameplay is cool ! I like the deformation shader ! Great job !

akshay-b 2019-04-30 03:41

Impressive for just 24 hours! I liked the effect after finishing mining an asteroid, and in general I like the concept. With a bit more work on tuning the controls and a more clearly defined end goal (and at least 24 more hours maybe) this would have been pretty great. Good effort!

kichex 2019-04-30 03:45

Well done ! I liked the pixel art and the shader was certainly a surprise

adam-clayden 2019-04-30 15:06

Good job for the time limit. I like the shockwave effect. The controls need some improving though. It's always tricky finding the balance between realism and fun controls, but some more tweaking there would go a long way. I think the game would be more fun if you could turbo boost into some asteroids as well. Possibly yield the player more money the harder they smash into them?

For 24 hours, this is great. However, such as with many LD games, it's more of a testament to the achievements and newfound skills of the dev than an amazing game in itself. The gameplay is pretty tedious, especially with these annoying AddForce() controls. It's still good and very gamey.

The graphics are very nice and stylised. The music is good and fits the mood of the game quite well, but just isn't very long. A longer loop would have been nice, but I know how much goes into these things, so I get it.

Overall, well done! You did a good job, especially considering the extra time constraint. In fact, it took me about 10 hours from when the jam started to when I started programming anything worthwhile, and even so, that original concept was scrapped the next day in favour of the much more fun gameplay of what S:C:U:M - The AutoVore Division ended up as. I did manage to repurpose quite a few assets, such as the conveyor belts and some scripts/parts of scripts, though.

Again, well done!

Nice little game. The gameplay itself gets really boring after a while and the controls are really unprecise which makes the game really hard but I still finished it in only 376.21 seconds :D The graphics and the music + sfx were pretty good and I also liked the shock wave. As a summary the game could maybe benefit from better controls and more content but it's a good prototype especially for 24 hours

historymaker118 2019-04-30 20:17

Wow this game was tough to play, but in an oddly satisfying way (I refused to let the awkward controls beat me). It's not a bad effort for something you only had 24 hours. I hope you keep making games, as you clearly have potential to become even better.

ariake81 2019-04-30 20:32

good game, fun to thrust the little ship around and the ripple explosion effect is ace!

elnu 2019-04-30 20:40

@historymaker118 Thanks for playing _Harvester_! I'm glad you enjoyed it. It was really difficult balancing "realism" and ease-of-use in the controls - they still need some tweaking. Hopefully I'll manage to make a post-jam version that is even better!

hugolnx 2019-04-30 20:40

Interesting game for a 24h-made game! I just found the controls a bit annoying, it's like the challenge of the game is to learn to control the ship, but the environment doesn't encourage much, so probably with some new gameplay elements to encourage exploration it would be a lot better. :)

agurcan 2019-04-30 21:23

I love the pixel art and especially the waves when you destroy an asteroid

nayaki-anandan 2019-04-30 22:40

This was impressive for 24 hours! I like the art. I find the game soothing, I might recommend a soothing music mode haha.

Harvester 1.0.1 - Thruster bugfix

Fixed thrusters. Now, the opposite thruster to your turning direction will be activated. For example, if you turn left your right thruster will activate and vice versa. No other changes.

justcamh 2019-05-01 07:06

Impressive! The controls were often a pain, but I think that's the point? I think it would have been cool if the forward control was holding left and right button at the same time, as the forwards button was annoying. Cute little minimap, but the game seemed to lack things to do with the money, like maybe a minimap upgrade, or thruster improvements? Otherwise a neat little game, with some great atmosphere!

bajtix 2019-05-01 07:20

I really like it but I think the asteroids are too dark which makes it hard to see them on the space background. I know there are these arrows but it's still hard to see ho wth asteroid looks. The music and graphics are nice and fit the game.

oddarock 2019-05-01 10:21

I liked the mood, the controls are a little surprising at first but I got used to them at the end and they are definitely good. The game lacks some challenge and a way of "losing" perhaps.

nigogo 2019-05-01 15:19

The thrust control was pretty intuitive after the first few seconds, the patch probably fixed any weird behavior. It gets a bit repetitive after the first couple of asteroids but I managed to clear the level. I think it would be nice to be able to buy some upgrades that make it easier to harvest. Faster harvesting, magnet that attracts the coins, a faster ship, drones that make your harvesting radius bigger, blast and so on. It also lacks challenge as @oddarock said, maybe some pirate ships that will try to steal your coins? Overall I think this is a pretty solid effort for 24 hours, well done! Also the shock wave effect looks great :)

Harvester 1.0.2 - Asteroid graphics update

Updated asteroid graphics in response to @bajtix's feedback. Now, the asteroids are lighter colored to contrast more with the background layers. No other changes.

schmavery 2019-05-01 21:26

Loved the thrusters and art. I accidentally restarted the game halfway through because I saw the menu button and wondered if there was additional options/upgrades in there, but actually it just quits to the main menu. Whoops!

kleinzach 2019-05-01 21:27

A very simple loop, but a decent one. The theming I feel is a bit light as there isn't anything in this game which would fit the theme except that the asteroids drop coins. Graphics look really good though, the asteroids and scrolling background look great though the ship itself might be a little low resolution comparatively. The lack of any sort of obstacle or conflict puts a damper on the fun after a while as theres nothing to make you continue once you get a grasp of how it is played and the music loops a few times. Good job though, solid for 24 hours especially.

jake-white 2019-05-01 21:28

Nice little polished game for 24 hours.

lagman9000 2019-05-01 21:32

Had fun with the game, nice and atmospheric and a nice art style! Would have been cool to see some more varied content elements but overall an enjoyable experience

hare-software 2019-05-01 21:46

Impressive work given you had only 24 hours. Love to see what you will make for the next Ludum Dare when you have all the time available!

josefnpat 2019-05-01 22:29

Very cute - I like where this was going, just wish there was more!

Also, this is one of the rare moments where I would have liked to have pressed left and right at the same time to achieve the same thing as pushing forward.

Nice game!

elnu 2019-05-01 23:06

Harvester 1.0.3 - Control update

Updated controls in response to @justcamh and @josefnpat's feedback. Now, thrusting forward can be achieved with either the forward button or left and right at the same time. Also under the hood, the animations for the player have been updated to be more modular and efficient. No other changes.

elnu 2019-05-03 00:45

Harvester 1.0.4 - Small visual tweaks

Updated and tweaked some minor details. First, the text on the in-game "Menu" button has been changed to "Back to Menu," in response to @schmavery's feedback. Second, coin rotation has been randomized. To do this, the rotation has been moved from an animation to a dedicated "Rotate" script. Finally, the ship's pivot has been moved from the bottom to the center. This makes the arrows center properly and reduces jitter at high rotation velocities. No other changes.

Solid entry. Art and music are great. The core gemaplex works but lacks any kind of challenge or progression. After the 10th asteroid, it felt really boring and repetetive. Without any kind of variety in gameplay, enemeies or any other obstacles, the game feels more like tedious busywork. I really like the general mechanics and they work great, but that alone doesn't produce any fun for me, I'm afraid. Also, the controls are very sensitive and my ittle spaceship was spinning like crazy all the time. Navigating the map was more work and more difficult than it should be.

I didn't bother collecting all of the asteroids, so I don't know if there actually is any kind of progression. If there is, I woudl suggest reducing the amount of asteroids in the first level, because, in my opinion, it takes far to long to collect all of them.

Other than that, the foundation is already pretty neat. With some kind of gameplay twist like enemies or other surprises, this could be awesome!

dusho 2019-05-06 19:16

cool art and music, I guess the game play was around learning how to use the thrusters, took me some time to figure out how it behaves - it's not balancing out when you have both thrusters on, it keeps the spin, which is strange, but I guess intended to make it harder to manipulate..

alext-design 2019-07-07 20:53

Hey @mertios ! I am so sorry it took so long to finish the recording, thank you for a wonderful experience and making me think more deeply! ^^

Hope you enjoy my gameplay of Harvester!!
