I really love this art style, its amazing. Not sure how this ties in with the theme of the jam though, but a pretty cool game nonetheless.

animal 2019-04-30 11:46

The game is well polish, good art, good feel. The game is quickly repetitive.

vladirien 2019-04-30 11:48

I love the art style, the gameplay idea is great as well, good job! Maybe add a timer to increase the tension in a post-jam version?

wtg 2019-04-30 11:49

Love the look of this game! It was fun to play and decode the clues - my one change would be to make the text appear a little quicker but its no deal breaker  Great work

pixelcrustpunk 2019-04-30 11:50

decent!

vrixyz 2019-04-30 11:52

very very good !! I really enjoy it

only downside, the jump feels a bit slow, but that's it :)

vanleiden 2019-04-30 11:54

Cute concept, I like it a lot.

ultrasonicaeron 2019-04-30 11:55

The game is really well-made, the art style is nice and calm, and there's no real rush to pick the perfect object. Only flaws I could find were the text box having text overlap sometimes and being able to leave objects *above* the room without them falling down. Overall, I liked the game.

kai 2019-04-30 12:01

This was VERY well done. Only critique is that falling through one platform makes you fall all the way to the bottom and some text overlayed and made it impossible to read. The art and audio were fantastic, however. It was one of the most enjoyable games so far.

ziamor 2019-04-30 12:03

@pseudobytes You are getting your eggs back, which will one day hatch into your babies. The theme is supposed to be that your life(eggs) is your currency.

ziamor 2019-04-30 12:04

@vladirien A timer was very much planned, but as usual I was still adding stuff to the last minute haha.

ziamor 2019-04-30 12:06

@vrixyz Shoot, I had some logic commented out that would have fixed this but I forgot. Darn it haha.

ziamor 2019-04-30 12:08

@ultrasonicaeron It seems to happen when the property 'metallic' is used. I'll look into making an updated version that fixes this.

kyrio 2019-04-30 12:15

Okay, I've played three days and I enjoyed them! The visuals have a lot of charm, the music is quite catchy and I really liked the overall feel and mood. There's nothing especially original or challenging with the gameplay but greeting the constant flow of colorful customers and providing them with what they need is more fun that I expected!

Here's for constructive criticism (I hope): - It's difficult to notice the window at first, so the player gets a couple of seconds of confusion as to what they should be doing (and what the game is about) - The objective isn't very clear either: it took me a while to realize I was collecting eggs. When I heard a coin sound I was looking for a counter somewhere in the HUD. Also, I wasn't sure if the game would proceed endlessly or if there'd be a final score at the end. - For some reason I expected deliveries to be timed (as in, the customer eventually leaves) but it looks like they only leave if you mess up twice. This is probably for the best but I think the flow of customers leads you to believe you're on the clock. I also didn't know at which point the day would end, and what I would miss by losing a customer. - Some adjectives seem mismatched: is a scythe really lavish? For consistency, "Tool" could also be replaced by an adjective, i.e. "Utilitarian" - **Bugs**: my second customer (first day) had its last line overlap the previous one instead of appearing under it (1). I believe one customer's dialogue overlapped the previous one's "thank you" at some point, too. - Not sure how it fits with the theme? Is it because eggs give life, and eggs are currency here? - This is meta criticism but I would've liked to see your names and roles. As it stands, I can only tell it's a jam game - and I'd like to know how many you were on it, if you produced your assets during the jam, etc.

Still, great work! The game is witty (2) and visually pleasing, so it's a win for me!

(1) bug.png (2) I mean, one guy was going to propose to his wife with an olive.

tommyflower 2019-04-30 13:53

I like the chicken so much! The way he holds objects is hilarious. I had fun play, the graphics is perfect and the descriptions funny. Overall great job! ( But not very in theme)

ziamor 2019-04-30 18:58

@kyrio Thanks for your input!

- I was worried the window would be hard to tell that it was special, we had intended to have some little icon pop up to show that it's intractable but we ran out of time.

- I wanted to avoid having UI elements, I think I added too many eggs that they don't stand out so much. There are 5 days total with a small ending based on how well you did. We didn't have much time for play testing the final product as it came together towards the end, we feel in retrospect 5 customers per day is too much

- A timer was originally planed but was scrapped due to time constraints, the rest of the game worked without a timer so I put a focus on bug squashing though I do wish I had time(pun intended) for the timer

- Haha a scythe is not lavish, we had a huge spread sheet with item properties that I would export to unity to fetch the data, there were a lot of items and properties so there are a few mistakes from miss clicks here and there. I like Utilitarian, I wasn't a huge fan of tool but the only other word that came to mind was 'useful' but that felt weird as well.

- That is correct haha, the chicken is trying to get her eggs back which the farmer sold and the eggs are the life she created. We didn't want to use the theme as a game play mechanic as we were sure a lot of games would take the theme literally, and we wanted to do something outside the box which was hard for this theme. So we tried to tie to into the story, which unfortunately needs to be read on the ludum dare page, I had no time to incorporate it into the game elegantly.

- Yea there seems to be something wrong with the word metallic that's breaking things.

- You mean proposing with a single olive is not normal? :O

mahou 2019-04-30 19:52

I really liked it! The art is cute, gameplay is fun and the song fits perfectly, even taking a little long to finish the game, the end just make it worth!

ziamor 2019-04-30 20:29

@mahou I'm so happy to hear you saw the ending! We underestimated how long it would take to finish 5 days (pfft who needs play testing) and we were worried people wouldn't reach the end.

megaelod 2019-05-01 09:23

loved it!!! the graphs are so cute!

tbaudon 2019-05-01 18:48

Cool pixel art. I made some mistakes and couldn't fill the shelf :(

I think it would be cool if the customer got impatient and leaved and thant rather than a certain number of customer for a day it would be a time in wich you had to sell everything you can.

ziamor 2019-05-01 19:00

@tbaudon Interesting idea! A timer was planned originally but dropped due to time constraints, but the customer count was still going to be fixed. Having it so you go through as many people as you can in one day sounds interesting!

sanguis 2019-05-02 14:56

Nice graphic and sounds :) Customer "orders" were funny and the clues were sometimes hard to decipher so it was not too easy. Like the game in overall, but did not find strong connection with the theme unfortunatelly...

rmleverton 2019-05-04 21:58

Sharon is a hard woman to please with a very eclectic taste. Fun game, great pun!

captainpilot 2019-05-18 18:51

I really enjoyed this one. Not sure what 'endings' there are. I got 14 chicks but it didn't feel special enough for me to want to go back and see the others.

I got caught out once on some of the descriptors (not sure I'd call a painting thin and blocky) but otherwise it was great.

jezzamon 2019-05-18 19:31

As a heads up, little tweaks like the ones you listed are not allowed for the jam! You can definitely make them, you're meant to leave a version without the little tweaks so people can play and rate those ones!

flying-dog-fish 2019-05-18 19:39

A very cute and funny game. Well done.

ziamor 2019-05-18 19:45

@jezzamon

I think most of them are allowed according to this:

"Certain Bug Fixes are allowed. You can’t add new features, but if something broke or didn’t work correctly as you were finishing up, you can fix this after the deadline. You are asked to highlight the changes you make in your submission (a short change log). You probably wont get a 2nd chance with some players, but at least it wont be a problem for future players."

The only ones I might agree with you is:

-Reduced people per day from 5 to 3 to make the game quicker

-Changed day text from Day X to Day X of 5 to help show players there is an end to the madness

-There were toooooo many eggs on the shelf, reduced max reward per customer from 2 to 1

Though they aren't new mechanics, just fixes to let people finish the game faster.

In the future I'll keep this in mind though, thanks!

narrenschlag 2019-05-18 19:58

This really good! I enjoyed it a lot but it's getting extremly repetetive. Whatever: Just polish up the movement and it's a very good game.

P.S.: Best Finish Screen ever! :D I love those baby chicken!

johnnysix 2019-05-18 20:00

Fantastic. Loved the concept, took a while to figure out how to get to the hatch. Love all the art for the objects ( and their descriptions - both on the items and from the customers! ) Bonus points for style. ld44db24.png

jezzamon 2019-05-18 20:15

@ziamor Yep, those were the ones that come to mind! Ideally trying to fix up those playability things is part of the jam too.

But yeah the rules aren't super strict anyway :P But for those it might be better having a separate page and linking both -- that's what I usually do.

jezzamon 2019-05-18 20:19

Also I left another comment here but it seems like it got lost due to the whole getting logged out thing.

I went and played this version, and it's simple but surprisingly fun! I was somewhat expecting some variant as each of the days went past, but I still enjoyed going through it :)

Also the graphics are really great! I love being that chicken.

Would be nice to have some way to skip text so when playing again you can try rush it to see an alternate ending

zubspace 2019-05-18 20:27

Hiya, I've never played a game as a chicken before. But this was exactly what I needed! Cute... Creative... Engaging... Thank you so much! Sharon loves you!

schmavery 2019-05-18 22:38

I liked your take on the theme as well as the art/music style. Also loved the attention to detail on all the funny little descriptions of the items. There were a couple of properties that I wasn't expecting some items to have but I managed to figure most of them out.

Nice job :)

jeremy-ryan 2019-05-19 00:50

Nice game! The detail with item descriptions and dialogue variation was nice. It would be nice if the text didn't cover the platforms when a customer was speaking, but other than that it's super smooth and polished. Great work for 72 hours.

justcamh 2019-05-19 08:15

Loved it! Would be cool to expand it with crafting, or maybe partial answers? A lot of things felt right, but were rejected, so maybe there could be multiple, or partial solutions? Some of the descriptions were also a little off, a little hammer isn't exactly heavy or deadly, so this one threw me a bit, particularly when I had a bunch of weapons that are heavy and deadly. Amazing job, loved the music! Keep it up!

atomfox0213 2019-05-21 19:01

Great art style, though gameplay was a bit slow

goosyberry 2019-05-21 19:58

Such adorable art and fun gameplay!

majadroid 2019-05-21 20:29

This was cute.
