Same here, I get a '404 Not Found' message. Screen shot looks tempting though.
Link is dead for me too my dood! The art looks very nice and interesting, i do hope you fix it soon!
Sad Frog 404 :frog:
Thanks for letting me know. I'm apparently an idiot who saved the itch.io page as a draft rather than public. 😁
Will upload screenshots when I get home from work today.
The Itch.io page is now working along with screenshots.
Nice pixel-style platformer game. The controls are smooth and the art is nice. Audio is also a great touch. But then there's this one thing I that affected the gameplay and overall experience hugely. The camera. The camera was so zoomed in that it was sometimes *extremely* difficult to tell where to go or what was happening. This was the case especially when falling down.
Aisde of that the game is fun and pretty nice challenge. Nice job!
Hi amkingtrp! I really enjoyed your game, I thought it was really well executed. The art was really good too, and it fit very well with your theme. I do have a couple suggestions though. There were a few spots where I had to take a leap of faith, which was a bit frustrating. Maybe zoom out the camera slightly to avoid spots like that? Also I think (on level 3?) I was at the top of the level and fell down and I could see the bottom of the lava so maybe making the lava a bit taller might help (although this is probably not that big of a problem, most people probably aren't a noob at this like me haha)
A solid platformer! I love that it has an introduction and an ending, and sticks to a coherent theme throughout. You could totally extend this into a great game!
Here are some specific suggestions:
* If you make the top of your lava sprite transparent instead of black, it will rise cleanly and smoothly * On the first level where the lava doesn't rise, there's a tile in the bottom-right here

it looks like you can stand on, but you can't. Unless it's an intentional troll, it's good to be visually clear what tiles are load-bearing and which aren't.
* There's a blind jump here

which is generally considered unfair/unkind level design. Later in the same level, there's a similar situation except you get a glimpse of the lower platform ahead of time, so that's fair - you just have to remember.
i loved the feel of this, and some of the art i wanted to love more than anything, but some of the art just made me confused as to what i was jumping onto. additionally, it felt like i was jumping blind for most of it, which just takes away from the fun.
@fingamer @jared-york @pace @catchthefloaty - many thanks for your feedback. You're all spot on about the blind jumps and the confusion of what tiles are solid. The white outlines are the collision layer, but in a lot of places I was really inconsistent about what I used as background and what was foreground. I'm in two minds about how to solve the blind jumps; I could zoom the camera out slightly to give just a hint of what's two tiles below, or I can alter the level design so people get a glimpse of the target platforms ahead of time before they get to the actual jump.
Those are good options - Another option to consider would be allowing the player to hold the down key to scroll the view down a bit.
Nice game :)
Not the best fit for the theme, but a solid experience all around. Intro, Outro and good controls. Only downsides have been mentioned, the leaps of faith are somewhat nasty. Unless that's what you're aiming at ;)
Lots of blind jumps and at full screen res the game looks BIG! but a great little game :)
That's good platformer, with pixel pixel graphics to tell the story. That's a very good work for a compo ! A felt however that the theme was used a bit too sparcely... The idea of a crowded building to solve overpopulation is good. But we don't fell it in the game. Sure, there are some corps. But they don't really make sense yet (have they been killed by terrorist ? But the blow hasn't arrived yet. Or have they died of over population ? But we don't get any hints about that). Also, th ebuilding should be packed with people trying to escape, while it fells very empty... So, a very nice platform with good arts, which is promising, but too shallow storywise.
Nice platformer that really fits the theme! Keep up the good work!
Nice little game, I like those fat pixels. The difficulty seems a bit inconsistent (level 2 was harder than most of the rest for me), especially when there's no more visibility to plan your jump on the last level. Also, I thought the narrative at the beginning was a nice addition but from the start, you break this narrative by making the lava comes from the left. If it's a tower to climb, it'd make more sense to start with the lava rising, then twisting the mechanics some 2 or 3 levels later with the lava coming from the side. Also, the lava and some terrain tiles felt a bit inconsistent with the narrative. But apart from that, I had some fun and played it to the end!
Pretty simple platformer....couldn't tell whether having the camera zoomed in so much was a play on the theme, or....??
Cute game with solid platforming. Like the duration of the game considering how many features you included, and loved that you made some ending images so I kno my lil dude made it out safely.
Nice platform game! The controls felt just right, and having so little camera space, overpopulation setting and having the fire burn away the level went great with the theme! :yellow_heart: btw, I noticed some sprites (mainly, the character) looked a bit weird, with blurred colors. Seems like a common problem with compression of sprites. You should look on that
Very fun! The controls felt good and the game was a perfect length. I would've liked the camera zoomed out a bit, as losing sight of the ground every jump felt kinda disorienting.
Also, it's a small point, but I appreciate that you put all the files in one folder in the zip, as it removes that little bit of hassle from the downloading process.
Controls felt really good, which is hard to get right with a platformer in a game jam. I liked the story behind it and how it tied into the theme.
As others have said, there were a few unfair blind jumps, but other than that this could easily be fleshed out into a pretty fun casual platformer. Good stuff.
I liked mostly 'cause it can be played online and also 'cause of the difficult, it's well balanced. The shortcuts also help a lot.... controlling the restart with space... :D
