Cute fun little game. It was challenging. Pretty intuitive after dying the first few times what you could and couldn't do. Pretty self explanatory on learning, and then it got challenging, fast. I had fun playing it. Keep up the good work. Curious how well other people stacked up in this game.

It was a nice little game, a very difficult one though. The physics do a bit weird things sometimes and the controls are kinda hard to master because of that. Anyways it was a pretty nice little game.

Hey there. Congratulations on your game! I like fast paced challenging games a la Meat Boy, and, with some polish, this could eventually be turned into something that could hook players in.
The limitations of the game are apparent from the presentation. Minimalistic graphics and nothing memorable at all, from the viewing perspective. I'm the art guy on our game's team, and while I prefer to see flashy stuff, I also know that there's limits to what people can do in the jam. I do have to praise that you didn't try to add stuff that could have looked better but made it worse though. What you have is immediately functional, and doesn't get on the way of gameplay.
Mechanics and function are king, and this is royal ground, and the graphics are the peasants of your royalty. The game, in a short burst, is challenging and fun. I didn't read properly and thought I was doing something wrong when I kept failing the first room, until I saw there was wall jumping. That immediately opened a lot of possibilities. And when I finally passed the first room, the second became it's own little nightmare, with lasers (which, by the way, were executed just right) and the dreaded ball of death. I'll be seeing that thing in my nightmares.
Death is but a slap on the wrist. No fanfare and no unecessary transitions get in the way. As I said before, while it's a shame that the game doesn't look as good as it could (from either a flourish or a minimalistic point of view), it's good to know that it also meant there were no unecessary details. Some challening games add waits and only further annoy the player after a loss. Being able to jump right back into the action and try again makes the cadence go smoothly, letting the player focus.
I'd love to see how a game like this one goes from here. I've had talks with my friend to make a "danger room" like game before, and seeing this one only pumps me up for more. If I were to give you any feedback, I'd only mention the floatiness of the jumps and movement. It feels like it has a bit too much drag. But otherwise, at its core, the game is more than functional. I had a very good time with it. Keep up the good work, and enjoy the other entries of the jam! :whale:
I had a good time with this one. Simple art, not much to latch onto, but it's got promise in the mechanics. I loved the feeling of the controls, smooth and responsive, especially when paired with the fast paced puzzle-like gameplay. You've got the skeleton for a great game. Yeah, it could use a bit more work in level design and graphics, but all the same it's a fun little game. Good work! If you would check out mine I'd appreciate it! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/slovenly-shopper

Got stuck on level 2. Really neat concept, and once I got used to the controls, really fun! The controls/physics could use a little 'tightening' (which is vague, I know) but I felt they could have been a little more responsive, especially for a game based on quick reactions to the environment.
Very fun to explore the limits of the game! With some cool graphics you can hook people into the exciting and challenging levels.

The controls were laggy, and the acceleration of player could be a bit faster. The idea is good though, and it is worth continuing work for.

Experiencing a little controlling lag, so I stuck at level 1(Maybe I'm just not good at this type of game, too). According to introduction there's a lot interesting level designs. Nice entry!

This is pretty awesome little game! I bet if you were to skin this with a much better look, the game would for sure do very well. The gameplay was great! In my opinion, the fun was there and that's what you need! Polish it with some nifty graphics and you'll have yourself a very cool product. Great Job!!
Here is my game for anyone who would like to review it :) https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/moped-mayhem
Not sure whats causing the controls to lag honestly. Not experiencing any lag on my end. Looking into it to see if i can make it more responsive.
Also, @pecolyte you can wall jump and alter your jump height with up/down/W/S
Phew, a really roguelike one... good job! I like the rhythm, it's tough, but I keep trying... It's good that you did the animated GIF to see what the player is able to do. Nice, keep it on!

This is brutal. I love it, but I'm absolutely atrocious at it - perhaps it could more gradually ramp up the difficulty, but I'm also really bad at these sorts of games so maybe it's just me.
The concept is rock-solid, though. Great work for 12 hours.
The concept is great, and it's impressive that you managed to implement it in just 12 hours, but for me the input lag is a deal-breaker. It's only about a third of a second (and jumping is instantaneous), but that's long enough to make the controls feel really indirect. That's the only thing getting in the way of me really enjoying it right now. If you manage to fix the input lag, @ me. I'd love to give it another go.

I can't pass the second level, I feel awful xD The menu is a little bit caotic but the game is really cool, wall jumps are my weakness. If you want to check out our game: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/dr-zorongo
I was also stuck on the first room for awhile till I realized wall-jumping was a thing. I was just constantly trying to increase my jump height, would be nice if there was a meter for it or something like that. Anyway loved the quick brutal gameplay and great controls, game made in 12 hours? consider me impressed.
If you don't mind check out my LD entry tiny invasion, don't think there are any votes yet. https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/tiny-invasion
@james-hartley Honestly, my "planning" wasnt included in the creation time of 12hrs. and my planning time was like...6hrs as I couldn't think of anything else during my lessons/lectures. :P
Also, do you mind explaining what you meant by a meter?

Nice Game, really challenging, but one of the most fun I've played. I suck at the wall jumps though XD.

Addictive :grinning: but I just got to level 2.
After some time it feels more a game about remembering what is going to came than skill to avoid the things But it would be too dificult with random dangers...
Anyway good work
And just in case you feel like trying games ... https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/a-world-too-small-and-no-jetpack
I also think the controls feeling sluggish really ruined it for me. It would be a pretty fun fast paced avoider/survival arcade game if the controls were a little more tight, especially the moving left/right on the ground.
Nice job, but it certainly has some room to grow.
Too hard for me but in any case good idea and implementation. Great job!
Really difficult, but I had fun. I played level 2 for quite a while but couldn't quite get past it (I couldn't quite get the timing for the line with the narrow gap). I think with some fine-tuning on the controls this could be a lot of fun (let the jump height vary with the length of the key-press, give a BIT more leniency on the hitboxes). I think this really works well as a prototype of a game, hope you develop it further.
@omarshehata Yeah. Plan to change it, but changing it would actually change about 25% or my player control script and since its not super gamebreaking nor does it affect the "soul" of what im trying to do, I kept it as I didnt want to make changes once the jam itself was over for the sake of fairness. May or may not be due to lack of time too.

I have the same criticism as my game got for yours  it feels like I've got less control then I should've had and there's no way anyone could get it before dying and learning where and what things come at him. maybe ease it up a bit and randomize it so that the player can always escape. other than that, it was pretty fun game!

Hi, this is simple, hard and addictive. Feeling like playing flappy bird for the first time - on the good side, don't get me wrong... congrats! if you have the opportunity, take a look at my game: NUKEBALL - https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/nukeball

Once I realized you could climb on the walls, the game got a lot more fun :). This could be a really good game with a bit more time. Music, sound effects, hit points, and a little bit bigger view area to see what's coming a bit further out. Difficulty was a bit too high. Overall a fun entry. Kind of like Undertale, but with a cool climbing addition.
Nice Game!
This is simple, and well executed, but I did feel like I wasn't in as close control of my square as I would have liked, with the controls a bit unresponsive. The design itself is really good, though, and I think with a bit of polish this would be a _lot_ of fun, like mini Meat Boy.

Do you have a video playing it through? The gif you have looks amazing, I want to watch a pro at it :)
Also, I need a few more votes to get rated! Sim Sperm - https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/the-best-game-ever-conceived
OMG!! Very hard memory game! I like how it advanced. Sad it has no sound! Keep up the good work.
Nails hard! Absolutely infuriatingly hard! Truly...keyboard smashing...rage inducing...screaming obscenities hard.
So well done with that!
I believe that art should cause you to experience an emotion. This game is therefore art. The emotion?...Homicide. Which is not really an emotion but seriously...right now...you don't want to argue with me!

Congrats on your game! The simplistic look and the hard levels actually combine quite well. I had fun playing. I also got stuck first in level 1 until I descovered wall jumping, so I could pass that level. A normal jump near a wall was not possible, which annoyed me sometimes. Eventually I could not get past level 2. Great job!

This is really challenging, but actually great! As soon as I realized I could wall jump and slide, everything felt very cool and smooth. I didn't get very far because the only way to beat a level for me was to learn the obstacles by heart, and I'm not a fan of that. It's sort of like the "Impossible Game" with the triangles and the boxes: If you're into it, you get better every time, and it's fun. I didn't get into it because I don't have the patience. For the right audience, this game is awesome! And it has the right amount of simplicity in graphics, controls and level design. Nice work!

Very challenging game. I included it in my Ludum Dare 38 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQvFJMpbZ5A
