Oct 19 09:51:11 OadText ♥ 1 Teletext is finally back, and just how I remember it, even down to the subscriptions! Very cool take on the theme. I think I found everything, I became a Tower of Hanoi master and did find out the truth behind the pyramids by winning the educational game (that made me laugh, that was great). Even got the red remote buttons that reduce eye strain (blue button buyers could never relate). And I found the :( at 666, very depressed satan. It was very faithful to the original teletext (the little delay when you press stuff, that brought me back, the pyramid game just nostalgiabombed me), and of course making the phone involved as the remote was super cool and innovative. Everything looked just like the real thing as well, you really got the small nuances of for example the index screen right, awesome. So yeah, great job on this game, amazing take on the theme!
Oct 19 10:27:18 36m 07s C-Major Dungeon ♥ 1 I've made it to 200 now, I think I have a very solid strategy, each of the monsters has a certain element it really likes, and as long as you find it, you don't run out of energy. Just have to watch out for the 4′33″ enjoyers, but as long as you keep them in mind, I think you can keep going! energetic.png Very fun game! I enjoyed finding strategies to make it further and further. My first three runs ended on the first monster, but I slowly worked my way up, it was fun experimenting with the sounds based on what the monster was doing. The little hearts when you get it right are a cute effect, same with the singing of the monsters, I thought that was very cute. Very well done game, great job!
Oct 19 10:59:21 32m 03s BOOTLOOP.EXE ♥ 1 Very fun game! Did a couple of runs through the Guilty Gear Strive soundtrack, my best run was Extras, 46325 with 3915m travelled. Ironically I always seemed to clock out around the 4000m mark, usually a wall over a chasm that I just don't manage to take right. The most brutal one was symphony, where I made it past a super long angled wall with a curve in it, only to get destroyed by a simple wall over a chasm afterwards. Heh. extras.png So yeah, very fun and energetic game. I like the retro aesthetics. The old tech OS framing is pretty cool as well, pulled it all well together I think. Being able to use your own music is cool as well, generating the levels from that. The various movement options and upgrades kept it fresh on reruns as well, that was neat. Very well done game, great job!
Oct 19 12:49:32 1h 50m Medieval Hotline ♥ 2 Made it to exactly 150 happy customers before everyone starved AND ran out of wood (they had it rough, but the gold was still up, and the king's accountant's smile is what I work for after all). 150.png Very fun game! I love the funny options you get to pick each time, they were super funny. Made you want to wait until all the ports are unlocked again just so you can see all the funny texts. The gameplay also really has a way of sucking you in, I was getting into a real trance repeating whatever was low. Mana Wood, Mana Wood, Mana Food Wood, Mana Food Wood, etc. Really well designed how it draws you in! I thought the medieval art looked cool as well, the dragon cave dragon looked cute. Very well made game, great job!
Oct 19 13:38:19 48m 47s Scrap Treasure ♥ 1 With the power of six(!) dismantling robots, nothing stands in my way anymore! Very fun game! I love optimizing my little workshop! I scrapped and built parts through all the overheating until I had my perfect power setup (still have to turn robots on and off a little depending on demand, but I'm running at peak efficiency at all times now). Great take on the theme! Taking old tech apart and turning them into puzzles is super fun. I also liked the progression, with the additional modules coming in over time. Great design as well, you can gleam from how they look which type of module each module is, I liked that a lot. Very cool game, very well done!
Oct 19 15:48:47 2h 10m Nothing to Report? ♥ 1 I made it through the shift! I got the red "TOO MANY ANOMALIES" text a couple of times, so it must have been close, maybe there was something I just took for granted that was an anomaly the entire time, heh (one example is that I was CONVINCED for the longest time that there should, in fact, be a skull among all the TVs, that's normal and expected). Very fun game! Really draws you in with the atmosphere and mood and grips you until the shift is over. The pixel art style worked well for it, I loved the different colors between the different screens and how it made every view feel unique, at first I thought "there's no way I can remember all that", but it was well-designed enough that I could memorize it pretty well. Great job with that! Audio is setting the mood quite nicely as well, the little bleeps, and the atmospheric wind noises in the background, it's spooky. Awesome job with this game, very well done!
Oct 19 16:10:08 21m 21s CeeDee Survive ♥ 1 Made it to physical media safe haven as well! Found the fourth friend too, the vinyl is shy, I only found it on the last run as well (also rip floppy)! Very funny game, the cars being named after streaming services, AI platforms, consoles, was very funny, plus the whole concept of course. Giggled quite a bit when I saw this take on "old tech", it's genius, I love it. Game is fun as well, it gets pretty challenging in the later lanes, but not to the point that it feels unfair. Finding the friends helps diversifying it more than just moving up in a straight line, that was a neat addition. All in all very well done, great job!
Oct 19 16:58:27 48m 19s Old Dam Shift ♥ 1 I did it! complete.png The jump from 560 to 200 was the hardest from me, that killed me once when I couldn't reach 200 in time, but when I knew it was coming I could keep the left side at 200 and the right side at 360 output and just turn off the right side, basically for free! That was fun! At first it seems like it's quite a lot with all the buttons and adjustment possibilities, but playing around and slowly figuring out what does what is quite fun! I must have gotten half a dozen different draining or dam flooding game overs before I got it right, but when I got it, it felt really good! I think I still wasn't playing optimally, since I kind of always had to adjust the spillways on the fly because I couldn't keep the water constant, but that's life as a dam dispatcher. Very cool take on the theme. Super fun game, very well made, great job!
Oct 19 18:10:02 1h 11m Fix That Damn Thing ♥ 1 LMAO, I love this game. Absolutely got me during the modern TV segment and it only went further off the rails (in the best way) from there. Got all the three endings as well (despite my poor memory of calculus). Super fun, the animations, the upbeat sound effects, the little sprite changes when a kidney is missing. Lots of love put into this game and it shows. Hilarious take on the theme, great job!
Oct 20 16:58:42 22h 48m Haunted Score ♥ 1 After two dozen tries I still clock out at 8100, even after an optimal strat where I just farm upgrades until every press is worth almost a thousand, I can't get those final presses in time before the dead guy (and his new screen border friends) snatch it away. With that level of dedication he earned his score. Still, very fun game! I had a lot of fun finding out strategies until I found my optimal one. There are a lot of ways to go about it, like my upgrade farming that I already mentioned before (the idea is that you can ignore pressing the right buttons as long as one button gives you enough points, that way you can focus on the grabbing hands). That was my optimal one at the end, other than that I found the mechanic that if you move the gameboy you can dodge the grabbing hands, but they reversed that on me when they got faster, the hand from the other side of the screen popping up immediately just takes the gameboy and you immediately lose. There's a lot of depth here and I enjoyed that. Art-wise, the creepy hand looks cool, and the effect with the multiple hands on the side of the screen sure got me when it first appeared. Sound design was good as well, the sound when the hand goes away after you grab the gameboy helps with getting the timing right. Very cool game, well done!
Oct 20 17:28:58 30m 16s The Last Chance ♥ 1 This was a nailbiter, the drones were already above 6x and getting shot down by the little ship milliseconds before they were above it just as it entered the safe zone. 1/5 is STILL a win. good horse.png Very fun game! My strategy was to not send all of them but always have a gunship and one boat and leave one boat to kind of awkwardly follow behind a pair. But I also encountered the issue with the second command (or in rare cases the first) not being registered, usually when going north, so coordinating the boats was a bit difficult. Still, was fun trying to herd them to safety. It IS a very cool take on the theme, the new-fangled drones vs the old tech walkie talkies, that plus the controls via morse made it pretty unique, I liked how I slowly learned the morse for the letters by heart as well. Very cool game, great job!
Oct 23 18:15:30 72h 46m Ancient Tech ♥ 1 I didn't knock the others out of the park time-wise, but my score seems pretty high! I made a lot of tools, to the point where I was wondering where all my resources went (but I got ancient civilization right later, at the end I had a setup where everything was rising nicely, the empire is secured). poor time good score.png Very fun game! I like how good it feels when all the numbers go up. Also the way new resources kept getting introduced kept it fresh, I liked how it naturally went hand-in-hand with the map expansion upgrades. What I also liked is that you could always pitch in by manually clicking the buttons, in the aforementioned "wood crisis era" I could just take over for the poor overworked wood collector and make enough myself to build more houses and get more woodworkers. This game hit the power fantasy of building a nice system really well, great job on that, very well-designed!
Oct 23 18:37:14 21m 44s Zwaard Smid ♥ 1 Fun game! I managed to fulfill all the customer requests, I got 138 gold for it, not sure if that also scales how true-to-form it is. I think I took some liberties with the bronze and silver requests, but I nailed the gold one, that one was perfect. This one was the first attempt on the silver one (not sure why it's bronze as well, clearly there were mistakes made): what even happened here.png But yeah, very cool! It's fun racing against the clock until it cools down to get the right shape (but I also found the reheating, I thought that was nice and intuitive in the stove). The little blacksmith shop itself feels very cozy, I like how everything looks. The medieval tune fits perfectly as well. Very well done, great job!
Oct 24 09:05:34 14h 28m House of Deprecation ♥ 1 I did it, I won! Dancing like Jack right now to celebrate. i won.png The only thing I got stuck on was the winding key, it took me a couple of I SEE YOUs until I found it. Funnily enough I got the final old technology right immediately, there were just so many of them in the house that it stood out, glad it came full circle to them in the end. So yeah, very tense game! Making it such an enclosed space with Jane chasing you was a good choice, I was really on edge the whole time after she appeared. The eerie mood as well, with the lighting, the whited-out objects the ominous background sound, that was crafted very well. I must say, I think Jack did give me the biggest spook though, him dancing away from me aggressively took me so off-guard that I was jumpscared after getting distracted by him for long enough. His dance is also pretty funny, I love it. It was nice of you to add a checkpoint system as well, so you didn't have to speedrun all the objects every time you were seen. Very cool game, great job!
Oct 24 10:54:07 1h 48m Tiny Technician ♥ 1 Aiiieee, a nailbiter finish on my third try! winagain.png I loved it, super fun game! At first it's tough when you try to do the math in your head with the power of two, but at the end, you just get an intuitive feel for "how far away" the numbers are, so even when the bar is minimal you can go "Yeah, that's probably a 128 distance" and fire away. Felt super good when it became natural like that. Also the music, plus the progression when it switches over to the son, perfect! I also loved the funny program names, they made me giggle whenever it switched over to something new, all the all stars where there, from the totally legit mp3 player to cracked photoshop lmao. Awesome game, great job!
Oct 24 12:07:14 1h 13m Answer with Light ♥ 0 Yeah, I let the Petrel down as well, them cursing the guy giving the signal (me) did make me feel pretty bad, but it what gave me the push to get the Juno through it. The Mercy? Huh? Ah don't worry about that one, don't worry about it. As long as my other lighthouse buddy makes it through it's a happy end for all, that's what life as an honest watch is about. honest.png So yeah, very fun game! It has a lot going on, it's super fun slowly getting into the rhythm of the mechanics, get the radio messages, put up the little pins, signal your buddy, save the day. It's very satisfying when it all runs like a well-oiled machine, I liked that a lot. It also really pulls you into it, with the sound and lighting design, you do get very immersed in your lighthouse keeper duties as you focus on getting the frequency right and squinting at the map to see where exactly J6 is supposed to be. And that finale was very unexpected, the sudden turn into fighting off a Kaiju. Thank you for the checkpoint, I took a couple of tries to figure it out, looking back I should have read the wall mural about it more thoroughly, heh, there was probably a hint in there. So yeah that was really cool as well. Wonderful game, great job!
Oct 24 14:06:59 1h 59m Stars and the Sea ♥ 1 I reached the goal as well! The green area with the black inside, I hadn't expected it to go to the next level immediately, or I would have taken a screenshot before I reached the black part, alas. My strategy was what we in the business call "reload-the-second-you-get-lost scumming". The goal was usually relatively close, so the strat is to look at the closest stars, align towards to goal then pray and race. I just did another run just to prove how perfect this strat is, but apparently raced right past the goal during one of the cloudy sections, so it's still not perfect. BUT it works sometimes! I got to the goal! Very beautiful game. The stars glimmering in the sea and the clouds drifting by give it such a nice serene atmosphere, the music perfectly enhances the mood as well, this was all very expertly crafted, that makes it very enjoyable. And while my ultimate strat makes it sound like I just went in a line, I did actually have a lot of fun exploring, correcting my position and just having a little boat adventure under the stars. I think that captured the old tech theme and that star navigation adventure perfectly. All around great game, very well done!
Oct 24 15:12:00 1h 05m Caption Obvious ♥ 1 I recorded a video with my thoughts again: https://youtu.be/14tU66Eow7c My speedrun got completely mogged, no way ;_; Rewatching it, I lost an INSANE amount of time on needless interactions with the key rooms. ROOKIE mistakes in the Trivia Hart speedrunning community. But yeah, once again, hilarious game! Pretty much every line had a funny joke in it, it's amazing. That plus the environmental humor, it's really top-notch. Voice acting is superb as well again, I love the little touches you gave the different characters, each one had their personalities come through in their voices. Lots of charming effects in the graphics again, everything looks great, the many art assets paid off. I think that's what I didn't mention in the video, but it's also an innovative take on the theme, I haven't seen anything about silent films so far I think, plus turning that into the gameplay mechanic is super neat, that's a great idea. Great game all around!
Oct 24 15:42:21 30m 21s NewHouse™ ♥ 1 Ha, very funny game. I loved the escalation happening in the background. I clocked out at 4.3 average in the end, I didn't make a very inviting home in the second level and didn't seem to do that well in the final levels (but notice all the doors! Should be one satisfied customer slash survivor) Level6.png Looking at the other screenshots, there really is no resisting the urge to place little elephants around, is there? But yeah, very fun game, I enjoyed the creative outlet of designing a little house up to specs gameplay-wise. There was a real sense of development as the functionality of some rooms stayed the same (the top room HAS to be the boss' bedroom) and some rooms changed (bottom room is either the packed-like-sardine room, the guest room or the kitchen, it's just that versatile). The progression of the items looks great as well, it's super cool to flip through the final screenshots (another great idea) and see the progression of them all falling apart. Same with the music, that also slowly whithers as everything falls apart. Super good game, great job!
