| Apr 7 19:58:51 | Infernal | ♥ 2 | Very fun! I like the frenetic nature of the later rounds - as soon as you get an upgrade, get ready to dodge! Those bats will be gunn'n for ya! Very easy to understand - and the art is great too! May favorite were the white/black heal/max-health upgrades! Good work! | |
| Apr 7 20:03:38 | 4m 47s | Depth of your Thoughts | ♥ 2 | Very cool! I love the vibe you were able to capture here - reminds me of 'Talos Principle', one of my favorite games. Well done! |
| Apr 7 20:14:11 | 10m 33s | Memories O'5 | ♥ 3 | Interesting! Seems very cool - but I was only able to find the first pill-bottle on the ground, no others. From the screenshot it seems like one is supposed to be behind the TV? Hm... - but I love the vibe! |
| Apr 7 20:19:57 | 5m 46s | Deepish Clean | ♥ 0 | Awesome! What a lovely game - instantly hit me with nostalgia! The core loop is engaging, the sfx are fun - and the art is immaculate! Oh my god, I love each and every one of these little creatures! Special mention to the adorable pearl oysters and the big-eyed crabs darting between them! The mushrooms are a funny touch - did you know, there are some aquatic species of mushroom? Famously they were found in rivers in the PNW. I don't think any are salt water oceanic species... Some other nice touches: The readability on the red 'aura' around garbage is very helpful So cute how the fish scoot out of the way The little squish-stretch jiggle on my octo-head - so cute! Fantastic work! |
| Apr 7 20:23:23 | 3m 26s | Depths Fifty Seven | ♥ 0 | Haha woah - reading through the readme is a trip! I don't have a delta... but perhaps you could upload some screenshots so we can get an idea of what this looks like? Sounds like a wonderful idea |
| Apr 7 20:30:16 | 6m 53s | Deep sea fishing | ♥ 1 | Haha very cute! Actually feels somewhat close to a night dive! With some oxygen mechanics and a few other layers, could be a really addicting game! Well done! |
| Apr 7 20:43:37 | 13m 21s | Deep Drop | ♥ 2 | Hahah darn you!! Finally got to the long ice platform and it sent me allll the way back to white! I 'll never be able to beat it - but I had such a fun time! Of course, the experience of falling is in some ways similar to 'getting over it' or 'jump king' and whatnot - but looking down to watch your failure occur slowly in full 3d has a certain 'spice' to it that the 2d games don't. Was definitely squirming in my chair every time the realization hit that I wasn't going to make the edge. Some of my favorite details: * using audio rather than a power bar was a nice touch - feels more visceral somewhow * the music and visuals give it an almost 'LSD dream emulator' feeling - love it * inchworming up to an edge with little hops is so funny * when I saw the ice blocks my stomach dropped, haha, 'oh dear god no' fantastic work! |
| Apr 8 18:51:21 | 22h 07m | That Underground Level | ♥ 1 | Oh my god!! What a FANTASTIC entry! I was absolutely enamored with it from boot to finish. So many delectable details to gush over: * the color palette is immaculate - fits each homage perfectly and was continually gorgeous throughout (not to mention the top-tier pixel art) * so many of the best retro visual queues were carried over - from the dithered fade in to the grass particles to the lovingly bouncy jump sprites * A dark souls entry!! I had no idea how you were going to work that into the simplified 2d style - using a ground-smash attack was a stroke of genius. Excellent work * hearing each piano motif instantly teleported me to memories of each game - as soon as I turned to a heart, I had the widest grin knowing megalovania was coming You even managed to show off some clever puzzle making, like the bomb shortcut - amazing work. I could go on about how much I loved this entry forever - you should be very proud! |
| Apr 8 18:56:17 | 4m 56s | Rattling | ♥ 1 | Great entry! I love games with tactile controls, physics, and well-honed visual effects. The aesthetic fits in very well with Iron Lung, Lethal Company, etc. I believe I was just supposed to keep giving myself O2 to stay alive, yes? Would love to this idea expanded upon more! Good work |
| Apr 8 19:00:54 | 4m 37s | Dark Pit | ♥ 1 | What an interesting idea! I wasn't able to get far - getting trapped pretty quickly by objects falling into my 'close ambient light area' and pinching me above/below - but I am absolutely intrigued by this kind of 'world freezes when you look' puzzle solving. Would love to see this idea worked more - maybe a way to make the planforms intangible or change the movement to allow more approaches to climbing - fascinating stuff. Great work! |
| Apr 8 19:14:31 | 13m 37s | A Very Deep Tunnel | ♥ 1 | What lovely music this game makes! The visuals are stunning - surprised to see this is a compo game! I love the effect the pixelated brick octagonal tunnel gives - enchanting! I did fudge myself by placing a bee box right next to the minecart (fat-fingered) making it inaccessible, so I wasn't able to reach the tunnel - but I still enjoyed playing! Great entry |
| Apr 8 19:20:05 | 5m 34s | Race Through the Depths | ♥ 2 | Nice! A very complete experience - love how the camera starts close to give you time to learn the controls without overwhelming you, then zooms out to show you the challenges ahead - well done! |
| Apr 8 19:49:56 | 29m 51s | Depth Self - A narrative game | ♥ 2 | What an amazing amalgamation of art! 2d illustration, voxel art, and, of course trippy and totally unique visuals! The window usage and file editing remind me of 'One Shot' - if anyone wants to check out games with a similarly deep use of your PC. With a little help from the guide, I did get to the end (I was trying to create the file in the wrong folder) - but still uncertain if the 'last 3' jpngs are openable? Either way - fantastic stuff, great story - a truly unique and amazing artistic work! |
| Apr 8 19:58:48 | 8m 52s | Sub-Silence | ♥ 2 | Woah! What a cool idea! I loved playing it - though it felt crazy tough, haha. I think my top score was 2 kills? My movement + my limited radar pulse + the torpedo travel time + reload time + forward movement - holy cow! So many cool mechanics interacting in such interesting (and difficult) ways! Perhaps if there was just less enemies? Perhaps 1/5th as much? Maneuvering and timing out a shot is a fun enough challenge on it's own, even without trying to stay away from hostiles. Fantastic work! Super cool entry |
| Apr 8 20:02:54 | 4m 06s | Thrill of Anguish | ♥ 4 | Woah! What a fantastic idea - allowing the player to use gravity to breeze by all of your challenges (but take mental note of them) and then suddenly hit them with the - "Okay - you flew past it all before... Now go back, the hard way!"? Such a great piece of design. And I really liked the 'story' of the signal passing from the visual cortex to the heart, and getting it racing. Really cool work! |
| Apr 8 20:10:36 | 7m 42s | SINKING | ♥ 2 | What a fantastic entry! Cute, fun, and continually engaging! A absolutely adore games that have the 'rising lava' mechanic - always have - and this one, yet again, proves how exciting it is to keep progressing upwards while the danger chases behind you! Some things I love: * The 'Sinking' title font is perfection - I would hang that on my wall! * The fire particles are adorable, I loved just taking a moment to admire it * The harmonica 'down by the sea' slapps * the finish screen being a kind of landscape 'high score' seeing how far the water rose - fantastic! Excellent work! |
| Apr 8 20:29:24 | 18m 48s | The Depths, A Floppy Cat Adventure | ♥ 2 | What an amazing entry! I can't imagine trying to come up with such a complex character controller and animation system (and vehicle controller!!) in such a short time! There are so many details that are downright shocking to see in a jam game: * The beautiful (and useful) window-pattern on the sub's lights * Procedural turbine animations! * A character creator!? Oh my god! * the one/two handed grab system is hilarious and so fun! * diving deep deep deep and getting absolutely clobbered by a school of mega-fish was amazing My absolute favorite moment was heading back with my first winnings and thinking "You know, this thing's pretty fast - I wonder if it will let me breach the water like a dolphin! I bet I could get 5-10ft of air!" I then rocketed to the surface and proceeded to get over a hundred feet of stomach-dropping air, flying over the entire island, and laughing the whole time as I tumbled back to earth. Yall should be very proud! |
| Apr 10 20:46:58 | 48h 17m | Treasures | ♥ 2 | What a fun little game! Very 'foddian' - I only wish my carpal tunnel let me play it for longer. Perhaps a 'press and hold' rather than 'mash' control next time? Regardless - very fun - would love to see what this game would look like with more goals and smarter sharks! Great work! |
| Apr 10 21:25:28 | 38m 30s | Clean Down | ♥ 1 | what a wonderful entry! And a truly inspired evolution of the 'satisfying cleaning games' - adding the mana turns trash removal from 'just a gratifying chore' to a 'charging up' pursuit. Really changes the feeling of the game loop - awesome work! Shocked to see how tactile and engaging this game was - something about limiting the radius of the grasp and the pick-up/put-down mechanics really draws you into the character way more than you'd expect. The wonderful visuals and goody sfx help as well - but I did not expect to be so attached! Enjoyable and satisfying throughout! And a compo game?? You should be very proud! |
| Apr 10 21:31:41 | 6m 13s | The Well of Secrets | ♥ 1 | Great atmosphere! One of the things I'm most impressed by - an ingame cutscene!! I don't think I've ever seen that in a compo - I'll have to dig into your code to find out how you achieved that - but maybe your able to give a quick synopsis here? Was it animated using an external tool, or all in unity? Really love what it adds to the vibe of this entry. Well done! |
| Apr 10 21:51:05 | 19m 24s | Cave of Gorbs | ♥ 2 | Oh my god!! What??? How is it possible you made a jam game with such depth (heh) - and it's compo?? I am flabbergasted - I can't imagine how you managed to make that much pixel art in 48hr - let alone all the enemy variances, coding, balance, and all the rest. I absolutely adored every moment with this game - from the glee of finding another charming fountain, to the excitement of seeing a new block type harbinger a new level of depth, to carefully observing each new enemy to learn it's behavior, lest I waste any of my precious health. The visuals were chunky and adorable, the particles made the vegetation feel alive, and each enemy puts a fun new spin on both executing combat, as well as finding (or making!) a suitable, safe 'arena' to give you the advantage! Shockingly engrossing game loop. I kept expecting the content to 'fall apart' at some point - but what shocked me most, is the level generation seemed to get even smarter and more well tailored the deeper I got! And the end screen was so lovingly made as well - chefs kiss! As a huge fan of spelunky - this was right up my alley - the combo of a pickaxe and rope-toss is unmatched, haha. Honest - I would love to know more about your ethos for game making - what tools did you use for the pixel art? The music? How did you go about handling unique world generation on such a short time budget? Really, you should be incredibly proud, this is a monumentally polished game. Well done! |
| Apr 10 22:03:43 | 12m 38s | Frames | ♥ 1 | Fascinating! This is an amazing entry - we've seen the 'navigable, draggable windows' before, but the overlapping 'depth' of the windows being critical to the puzzle solving strategy? I've never seen that - and it works _beautifully_. I completed every level without issue and enjoyed every second of it. The audio work was so charming - and the visuals tickled some very specific whimsical region of my brain. Almost reminds of of 'moebius', or perhaps the ending of 'The Boy and the Heron'- something about those scrolling, pastel geometric backgrounds was really enchanting. Also - what an adorable end screen - fantastic work! I could go on gushing about this entry - I can't fathom how you approached coding the colliders and overlap behavior - I'd love to hear any quick-tips you have! Truly loved this one - inspiring! |
| Apr 10 22:10:49 | 7m 06s | DeepSteep | ♥ 1 | Woah! Loved this one - unparalleled vibes. You know, it almost reminds me of House of Leaves. Or 'Blame!', for that matter. Something about the The shader work is phenomenal here - the halftone evokes a sense of retro-eeriness, the monotone hydro-wave background a grounded psychedelic feel, and the black hole, of course, as this dope Damocles sword above and below you. The typeface choice supports that too. Something about the shiny, 'video-game-y' rings juxtaposed against the cold, plummeting staircase really draws you in. The audio effect helps sell that as well. Plus - it's quite fun! Bouncing down long straightaways, jumping over corners, taking leap-of-faith 'shortcuts' - reminds you of being a kid racing down the school stairs after final bell. Yeah! I'll have to check out those godot shaders... Fantastic work! |
| Apr 10 23:17:00 | 1h 06m | DESCEND with CAUTION | ♥ 1 | Awesome! What a clever twist - I've never seen a fall-damage descent based platformer like this before! Feels very fresh! So many lovely details: * The death 'ragdoll' is very satisfying * Love what the 'graves' add to the experience * Honing the jumps is very satisfying * Funny to see spikes at the bottom of the tall death-drops * It even has an underwater spikey level! * Swapping between the 'smoke' physics and 'normal' physics at the end to prove your mastery - great stuff! Great work with this - I had so much fun! |
| Apr 11 14:34:56 | 15h 17m | Helldriver 2 | ♥ 1 | Haha what a fun entry! The art is immaculate - and the vibes are so fun. Excellent, arcadey goodness throughout! Great work |
| Apr 11 14:46:57 | 12m 01s | Pogo Dwarf | ♥ 1 | Awesome stuff! Innovative, deeply engaging, immediately understandable - fantastic game design. Instant to pickup, hard to master! A question for you, if you consider to take this further - what would it look like if: * When on the ground, the character rotates on the pogo tip (as it does now) * But in the air, the character rotates on their center of mass Right now, you can get a bit of extra distance by compressing+rotating in the air, but it might give the player a little extra control of that landing pont was rotating too - allow them to squeeze out a dozen more pixels of height, or even rotate 'away' to catch the lip of something they accidentally flew over. Would allow them to pull of some nice 'last minute saves' (and I don't think it would trivialize anything, as it requires realization and skill expression on the player to pull it off - as the in-air-compression-rotation does now - just a bit more) Just some food for thought! Totally up to you, of course. Really loved this entry - awesome work! |
| Apr 11 15:12:46 | 25m 49s | Shafted | ♥ 1 | Wow - loved this one! Shocking amount of skill expression and engagement - I was enwrapped the whole way through! I can't believe I've never seen a game like this before - it's like a whole new derivation on brick-breaker, and so fun! Juggling my own items alongside the desire for gold was this constant push-pull that never got boring, and only got more satisfying as the dynamite and whatnot allowed me to shower the screen with goodies. Loved that the boss's throwables were deterministic so you could time it out properly (though I was never quite able to beat him, haha). If you decide to take this further - I wonder if there would be a way to make the ejection angle of the gold nugget relative to where the pickaxe hit it? That way, if you are looking for an easy 'grab gold and pickaxe' - you could achieve it by hitting the deposit 'dead on' in the middle. The flat vector art is super readable (and cute) - and I love the almost clown-like smile on the bosses face! Almost reminds me of the emotionality behind 'Going Under' (a roguelike soulslike in the flat, colorful 'corporate memphis' style - amazing game, if you haven't seen it) Fantastic entry - really enjoyed my time with it - thanks for submitting! Great work! |
| Apr 11 16:08:43 | 55m 57s | Depth of Field | ♥ 0 | Haha this so so fun! Gorgeous, soft visuals, lovely character art, and a fun, succinct little 'story' too! Amazing entry |
| Apr 11 16:12:21 | 3m 38s | Hole Punch | ♥ 1 | Haha absolutely love the style here - definitely evokes all the whimsical weirdness of katamari or parappa the rapper. Short, sweet, and lovely - excellent entry |
| Apr 11 16:40:18 | 27m 57s | Descend | ♥ 1 | Loved it! What an enchanting experience - well done! |
| Apr 11 16:51:13 | 10m 55s | Scavenger Deep | ♥ 1 | Absolutely gorgeous game! So many visual treats to gush over - the distant smoke, the playing birds, the dive-line wheel letting out slack - I could hang this game on my wall and just appreciate it as art! Gameplay could use some extra features, some level of challenge - but I still thoroughly enjoyed my time just soaking in this beautifully melancholic seascape. Great work! |
