| Oct 3 13:33:34 | Limited Parking Space | ♥ 2 | This is a great use of the theme and makes me feel like a total smartass because my real-life parking strategy of just parking far away works perfectly in this game. If this game gets expanded on after the jam I think having a scoring mechanic that awards a bonus for being early and distance walked subtracts from your score. This needs to be incorporated into dating sim games. | |
| Oct 6 03:34:15 | 62h 00m | Antigravity Cat Orbs | ♥ 2 | I saw how many cats I could boop in an hour, and then I tried to beat that record. /Principal Skinner But seriously, I fired up the Google stopwatch and timed how long it took for me to knock ten cats into the goal. About one minute and teenty seconds. I like the simple graphics and I absolutely love the meowing sound effect. It's so adorable I just wanna hug the nearest kitty-cat. And the gameplay reminds me of Flicky. I don't know why. |
| Oct 6 03:54:43 | 20m 28s | Elevators Go Boink | ♥ 1 | Sucks you weren't able to add sound because it would've really helped with the style of game you made. If you work anymore on this game, definitely add sound effects. I wonder if having only sound effects without music would suit the game better. I think highlighting the player's character and the elevator buttons would make things much easier to understand. Since elevator buttons are by the elevator doors in real life I didn't even think to look on top of the screen for those small things. Great use of the theme, though. I love the idea of an elevator mosh pit! |
| Oct 6 04:05:18 | 10m 35s | Meteor Mash | ♥ 2 | Mr. Driller meets Asteroids; Love it! Speaking of Mr. Driller, maybe have power-ups that replenish your oxygen supply? Or have two modes, one with the power-up and one that's strictly scoring as high as possible in the limited time? Assuming you continue working on this. I like the 50's sci-fi influence to the music track and the game over jingle sounds like what would play when a 90's cartoon character gets a game over. |
| Oct 6 04:12:19 | 7m 01s | Brick Breaker: Colors | ♥ 1 | @sudocoffee Dang it, you beat me to the Ikaruga comparison. Anyway, I like Ikaruga, and I like Breakout, so I love this idea! It's also trippy to see the ball bounce between blocks of one color while passing through the other colored-blocks. |
| Oct 6 04:49:02 | 36m 43s | Limited 2 Space | ♥ 2 | I would buy this if it were expanded into a full game. I love the visuals, the music is pleasant, and the gameplay is novel. |
| Oct 7 17:06:00 | 36h 16m | Tethered | ♥ 2 | I found this rather challenging. I also liked the use of the theme. You're limited in space as well as having to work within the limits of the characters' space. The chatter between the astronauts was a nice addition to bring levity to their dire situation. The only improvement I can think to make is having arrows next to the item names pointing to them. Lastly, I thought "space computer" was funny. |
| Oct 7 20:53:10 | 3h 47m | The Dude with a Wolf, a Goat and a Cabbage ~ A modern interpretation | ♥ 1 | Man, I wish I still had my Dreamcast. Maybe I can get my hands on a defective one I can fix up for cheap. But enough about my Dreamcast desire. I'm glad I saw somebody used the old Wolf, Goat, Cabbage puzzle for this jam since it makes for a perfect fit. I didn't expect a visual novel to be made for it, much less a Dreamcast visual novel. The visuals remind me of Ben There, Dan That and I'm impressed this has voice acting. I'm also glad the game takes place in Ohio and not Michigan. The writing is also rather funny. The goat learning "Silence" and using it in the JRPG battle made me laugh out loud. Overall, a quick, fun, and funny romp. Unfortunately, nullDC can't run this game, but Redream can. |
| Oct 7 21:46:27 | 53m 17s | Hellevator | ♥ 2 | I had the same issue as others have with the elevator stopping and the enemies not coming in. It happened on the 7th Floor for me. Also, often times the wrench-swinging animation doesn't play. The music is catchy and I'm sure will randomly play in my head in the future. The pixel art has a nice and clean look to it. The gaemplay however desperately needs a healthbar or timer or scoring mechanic. Now I wonder if there are any beat 'em ups that take place entirely in an elevator and play like the elevator stage in Streets of Rage 2. |
| Oct 8 04:34:14 | 6h 47m | Fowl Play | ♥ 3 | Fowl Play, funny. This is one of the best games I've played in this jam so far. The graphics are nice, clean, and adorable. The camera zoom-in effect was a nice touch, especially in a game jam game. The music fit the makes for a nice backing track, and the voice narration is well done. The noises the characters make in lieu of voices reminds me of classic Nintendo games. For these lines, it would've been nice to right-click to proceed to the next line of dialogue. |
| Oct 8 19:10:06 | 14h 35m | Whispers in the Shadows | ♥ 0 | I like the game's aesthetics and shadow effects, but it definitely needs background music. Also, like others have said the cursive font on the notes was hard to read. It's more legible at fullscreen though. |
| Oct 8 20:16:01 | 1h 05m | STOP BURYING ME ALIVE, BEAUTIFUL! | ♥ 3 | I'm incredibly impressed this was done in three days. It's a game I'd be glad to buy with a bit more polish (like saving) and content. Oh hell, considering the trash on Steam I'd be glad to buy it as it currently is. The art is absolutely gorgeous, and I'm not just talking about the two beautiful women. ;) The music suits the game very well and feels relaxing. Kinda weird to have relaxing background music while being buried alive. The sound effects were good, and I just loved the squeak the rats make when you click them! Speaking of the rats, I've mostly ignored them during the conversations/card games and didn't experience any penalties. If there is a penalty for taking too many rat bites, it takes a while to incur it. I saw on the itch page there were different plans for the card game, but they weren't implemented before the jam deadline. Was the card game going to be a gauge on how well Remie favors you? Early in the game you two don't match often, but as the game progresses you match more often if you're on track for her ending. If so, that would've been cool. If not, what was the plan for the card game? I don't see anyone else mentioning this, so I guess either incredibly obvious or I'm way off track: I see this as an allegory for a relationship on the rocks. Karina being convinced you're dead is her giving up on it, and the burial is her deciding how to end things. Remie is someone you're having an emotional affair with, with the card game representing spending quality time with her and (if I'm correct about the original function of the card game) connecting with her in a way you can't with Karina. And the rats represent, uh, I don't know. Work/responsibilities? Okay, my interpretation might be falling apart here. But I feel like this game is you deciding whether to save your failing relationship or to just start a new one. This is easily my favorite game I've played so far this Ludum Dare. I'm definitely following on itch. And I'm not even into visual novels. |
| Oct 8 20:36:53 | 20m 52s | Misplace | ♥ 2 | I dig the idea of the game and what you're going for, but it's much too frustrating. Thankfully, it's just little things that (I imagine) can be easily fixed for a much more enjoyable experience. First, the demon is much too aggressive. It killed me my first time playing because I was clicking the full-screen button. Which isn't needed because you can just use Alt+Enter. Perhaps have it be slow to pounce in the beginning and ramp up the aggression after performing a step or two? I found the note rather hard to read because it's in the corner and the vignette effect covers it up a bit. Perhaps you can have the left mouse-button bring up the card when the cursor isn't over an interactable object? Lastly, it was very difficult to find items because of their placement inside the dressers. misplace_LD54_screenshot.png You will not believe how many times I missed this because of the angle I was looking from. Fix these issues and this'll be a fun quickie of a game. Heck, you can even have the demon as-is if the other issues are fixed. |
| Oct 9 02:59:19 | 6h 22m | Laser Grid | ♥ 1 | I liked this game quite a bit. It feels like a game in a Microsoft Entertainment Pack. Like something you'd play when finished with Chip's Challenge. The pixel art is easy to discern but also nice and chunky. The background track is a nice earworm, and the laser sound effect is pleasant. Overall, a very fun action-puzzle game. |
| Oct 9 04:57:27 | 1h 58m | BEEmaze (test name) | ♥ 0 | I wasn't feeling this one. The artwork for the title and credits screens was nice, but the in-game graphics weren't. The background music was alright, if stock. The gameplay was frankly frustrating as the bee (or rather, its hitbox) kept clipping into the walls and I'd have to use the mouse to rotate it. Having the mouse only rotate the bee to keep it from clipping feels like such a waste of time. If it weren't for this this could be a decent maze game. I didn't bother finishing it as when I pressed the space bar (trying to see if I can pause the game) I was taken to the credits screen, and then back to the title screen, sending me back to the beginning. |
| Oct 9 05:41:54 | 44m 27s | BACK TO REALITY | ♥ 2 | The isometric graphics remind me of Crusader: No Remorse for DOS, and I dug the Pikmin-esque ordering of minions. It's also quite challenging. I'm going to need to try a few more times to get all the parts. Hopefully this game will be expanded upon with more levels and a menu system. |
| Oct 9 05:54:27 | 12m 33s | Terminal Velocity | ♥ 2 | This was a fun quickie of a game. It feels weird, but novel to control a mouse cursor with a keyboard and having a Blue Screen of Death be a victory screen while thematic feels wrong. Also, I found it rather funny this shares a title with both a 90s Hollywood movie and a 90s first-person vehicle shooter. |
| Oct 10 16:05:28 | 34h 11m | Yuri Quest | ♥ 2 | I enjoyed this game quite a bit. The pixel art looks quite nice and has a cute aesthetic. The combat was fun but could've been more challenging. I found having spike traps, obstacles, and differing level layouts for space reduction was rather clever as I was just expecting the arenas to shrink. I really dug the classic RPG-esque soundtrack. If this ever gets worked on further, it'd be great to see an endless mode. |
| Oct 14 08:53:29 | 88h 48m | Pack It Up | ♥ 1 | Like others, I lost it when the horse speeds off and lost the possessions Johnny worked so hard to pack. Anyway, this game is great! The graphics have a nice, simple high-contrast look to them. The background music tracks are fun ditty loops and I like the mix of realistic physics sound effects and "video-gamey" sound effects. And of course the gameplay is absolute fun with its easy-to-understand mechanics and challenge. If this ever gets expanded on I'd love to play more levels. My only critique (Nitpick, really) is the menu should also be keyboard controlled. That way the player doesn't have to take their hands off the keyboard to restart or proceed to the next level. The game is amazing as it is! The horse might like to leave, but I wanna stay and play more levels. |
| Oct 14 20:58:15 | 12h 04m | Down the spiral | ♥ 1 | I quite liked this game. The aesthetic reminds of Macromedia Flash games I played in the 00's, and the gameplay feels like a mix of Yar's Revenge, Tempest, and a (light) bullet-hell shmup. I can see why others think the blue power-ups fade out too quickly, but I was alright with it because it made me play more defensively. Perhaps have a difficulty selector to adjust the fade out time along with other gameplay elements? I like how the camera panning prevents you from just putting the mouse cursor in the middle of the screen, so you're forced to actually aim. Is that on purpose or a happy accident? My only criticism is that there should be auto-fire. I'm playing on a laptop trackpad without mouse buttons and it's difficult to tap on it to fire every shot. If auto-fire makes it too easy, maybe have it fire more slowly than repeatedly pressing the mouse button? Very good game. I hope to see the other bosses implented. |
| Oct 15 04:17:09 | 7h 18m | Gornzorple Radiant Steel Storm Anomaly | ♥ 2 | I really love the aesthetics and mechanics, but the ship speed is WAY too fast. I'm slippin' and slidin' every which way. It makes this otherwise great game. |
| Oct 15 04:31:49 | 14m 40s | Iceolation | ♥ 3 | Ya gotta love a game that has a penguin wearing sunglasses on top of sunglasses on top of sunglasses. |
| Oct 15 04:37:43 | 5m 54s | Mechanizyn | ♥ 1 | Wow, and I thought my game was short. I'm playing. Seriously, this looks like the start to a kick-ass game that I can't wait to play! |
| Oct 15 22:07:02 | 17h 29m | Limited Larry and the Lost Intern | ♥ 0 | I love the idea for the game, but I think it's prone to walking dead scenarios. I think I've gotten into them as I seem to hit a figurative wall in my progress. If the team takes care to avoid those scenarios, I can see a kick ass adventure game being made! I'll admit I don't know much about AI art, so I might be clueless, but I impressed with how consistent it all is. It doesn't look like a bunch of random assets shoved into a game. |
| Oct 18 14:31:44 | 64h 24m | Too Many Carrots in the Kitchen | ♥ 1 | I feel like this an allegory for the cyclical nature of everyday life. Definitely add a music track in the future as that would greatly add more of a sense of urgency to the game. Also, pressing Z didn't restart the game for me. I'm using the Edge browser. |
| Oct 20 20:28:09 | 53h 56m | Voidonaut | ♥ 1 | The SID Chip music sounds good and the 3D models in the garage look cool. It'd be great if it were longer, so hopefully you keep working on this. Also, I was able to make a ship that kinda looked like Gradius's Vic Viper, and that's always a plus. |
| Oct 20 20:29:37 | 1m 28s | Drive Ice | ♥ 0 | The web version wouldn't load past 90% for me. :( I can't downloads the Windows version because I'm on a work computer. XD |
| Oct 20 20:39:56 | 10m 19s | Meme Mania: Lost in the Labyrinth | ♥ 0 | Atari's Adventure with a polar bear: love it! The music is fun and suits what you're going for rather well. The hitbox on the bear is too big, causing it to get caught on the edges. |
| Oct 20 20:44:22 | 4m 26s | Ghostly Gravity | ♥ 1 | I like the combination of Sokoban and the VVVVVV's gravity-change mechanics. Also, putting the ghost into the goal instead of the box you're pushing is a neat twist. |
| Oct 20 20:46:51 | 2m 29s | Panic Hide | ♥ 1 | Looks interesting. Too bad I don't have a Mac. |
| Oct 20 21:03:38 | 16m 47s | Pixel Piles | ♥ 3 | I never thought I wouldn't want the Tetris blocks to fall. This game has really nice art and fun gameplay. |
| Oct 20 21:54:47 | 51m 09s | STARCHILD | ♥ 1 | I played enough to get a couple endings, both of them sad. The depression allegory stuck touched me. My only criticism is that it'd be nice to be able to start later in the story so you don't have to keep reading the paragraphs with only one choice. I don't know if that's possible with Ramus though. |
