The paddle switching is a fun game mechanic! Wish this had sound and music.

Oh hey, neat spin on a classic! Good work it's fun.
Fun gameplay! The paddle switching was a cool mechanic, and not actually that easy for my small brain to wrap its head around. I wish the game had some sort of scoring going on (maybe for consecutive hits?). Like others said - I wish it had music and sound!
@daniel-davis-music thanks yes, scoring was something I was trying to get added but I started it way too late. For some reason it just wasn't tallying the score and I ran out of time.
Same with audio, I should have implemented something earlier and just got tied up in other pieces of the project.
I always love a good brick breaker game. Thanks for offering the Mac executable, most people don't do that. But I needed it because the web version on the Ludum Dare page threw an error (Error The following features required to run Godot projects on the Web are missing: Cross Origin Isolation - Check web server configuration (send correct headers) SharedArrayBuffer - Check web server configuration (send correct headers)), and the itch version in Chrome had a huge resolution (larger than the browser window), took forever to load, and freezes up Chrome right before it finishes loading. I know you all were talking about web builds for Godot in Discord, so I don't know if this information is any help for those discussions.

I think I got the ball stuck... Well, not quite stuck, but it'll take a while to reach the paddle.
I might just be bad at the game but I could not, for the longest time, figure out how to play this game. TT TT Maybe this game could benefit from a tutorial, even if it's just some text explaining it. Just for people like me that take more time to get it LOL. Overall, really interesting concept and interesting twist to the game I used to play on dad's blackberry.
@morgie its on the starting screen:)
Great work tho intresting take on the pong game would love to change the color of the ball immedietly would make it a bit more interesting i think.
@greenpig I've considered that.
I probably need to put together some levels and try both.
@mao hmm, that's a tricky one to even get it quite that sharp of an angle!
I'll have to think about how to best handle that.
I love brick breaker games, great to see one! The paddle switch mechanic was an interesting addition, don't think I've seen that one before. I do wonder if it would work better if you could switch the color of the ball directly to gain more control rather than switch the color of the paddles though. It was a nice twist regardless.
I'm unsure if this game followed the standard for paddle games of adjusting the ball direction based on where it hit the paddle. It felt like it bounced straight back most of the time even when I hit it on the edge. But maybe I didn't quite understand that part of the controls.
Had a lot of fun with it in any case, great work!
I don't have the feel the space being limited or claustrophobia. good game but kinda miss the theme
Fun little twist on paddle games. Well done!
It's cool that you can select the colors at the beginning.
This is cool! Almost like a cross between Breakout and Ikaruga.
I got the ball stuck the same way as mao above, there should probably be a limit to the ball's angle.
your ludum dare submission doesn't work, but the itch.io link does. I enjoyed the paddle switching mechanic, fun twist on a classic
@bad-fetus Yeah, something a little odd about the angles. Going to look at it further. I have considered letting you change the ball color directly, I need to play some levels with that option and the paddle one and see which I like. Or maybe that's a power up you can get as part of the game, I plant o keep working on this one.
@sudocoffee interesting. Yeah, I'll have to look back at the angle thing.
@sudocoffee Dang it, you beat me to the Ikaruga comparison.
Anyway, I like Ikaruga, and I like Breakout, so I love this idea! It's also trippy to see the ball bounce between blocks of one color while passing through the other colored-blocks.
Brilliant concept! Unfortunately, the difficulty level is too high for me. I haven't been able to pass the second level yet. Hope in the future there will be a control option using mouse movement.
Interesting concept. I might be miunderstanding but it feels like the ball bounce of the paddle is random. Which made it feel like i didn't have much control. I like the switching colors. Neat game.
@nilan thanks. Yes, mouse control is on the list of control options as I keep developing this. I believe it should be easy to add, but wasn't sure if people would want to use it during the jam.
@ranzor I do think the ball bounce isn't quite right. I have to look at it further!
@killerb @sudocoffee I mention to mention Ikaruga as that game crossed my mind when I was considering letting the player switch the ball color directly. I was trying to think if that would make things too easy, so I just have to test out direct control. I feel like going that route will mean I need to adjust other mechanics, but definitely going to play with it.
I found myself engaging in trying to figure out the puzzle aspect of when to switch the colors. A few times I got 'stuck' in the paddles doing the same route/shot multiple times, which was probably a me problem! As someone screenshotted above, my level seemed a bit lop sided, and I don't think when the ball got behind my paddle on the right hand side I lost a life. That aside, I thought it was a solid entry. I liked that you could customize the colors too. Fun :)
Nice concept! I don't have anything new to say but congrats ! :)
I really appreciate being able to choose the colors yourself, that's a super nice touch! It felt like I wasn't really in control with bouncing the ball of my paddle, it felt like it bounced off the same way no matter in which position I hit the ball. Still I liked this new version of pong :)!
The twist is interesting, it adds some strategy to keep your ball behind the bricks. Some sound would have been nice, even if it’s just blip blop sounds made in less than a minute with sfxr.
The paddles are maybe a bit slow. Mouse controls would make controls more akin to the original Pong and Breakout. Also the ball has limited bounce angles which makes it hard to hit the last bricks. Continuous angles would make it take different trajectories and eventually hit that brick.
Clearing the two levels is not very hard. Maybe make the game loop with an increasing ball speed?
I am not colorblind, but thank you anyway for this setting.
The Linux version works on my machine.
@tygrak Yeah, I am working on the bouncing. I did a bit of a devlog and debrief and discussed that some. That is one of the things I am working on.I plan to also let you set the background color, unless I do something else with the background. I plan to continue working on this and turn it into a real game.
@sentmoraap much appreciated! I am working on updates now, but was also able to get this working on steam deck! Though I have to figure out how to add the control options for the menus and play with the scaling a bit more on the color one in particular.
While colorblind was a consideration, I honestly was more thinking it would just be a cool touch to let the person playing select what colors to flip between.
Overall feel and ball bounce angle are definitely my top priority as I continue to work on this!
