| Oct 2 15:40:31 | Moneypit | ♥ 3 | Damn, that ending is sad. ;w; Very simple but fun game! It's like Pac-man, but with a bit of risk/reward. I really like the graphics, the floor-plan style you went with looks neat, and the sound effects are nice too, I like how you added bleeps when the employees talk jjdkds. Don't really have much to say, it's focused and straight-forward. Man needs therapy, though. Captura de tela 2023-10-02 131510.png | |
| Oct 2 16:05:52 | 25m 21s | Commuter | ♥ 1 | I see silly cat I click. Missed opportunity not to call the game "Commewter"! x) It was very simple, just move and don't hit anything. I felt like the sensitivity was a bit too high, any light press of the keys would send Mewpo flying, I got used to it eventually. Also when the music started I was laughing immediately DJKDS I did not expect the quirky-ass kazoo music Captura de tela 2023-10-02 130347.png |
| Oct 3 20:07:06 | 28h 01m | Karl's Labyrinth | ♥ 1 | These brainy, deliberately complex, every-part-of-the-body-is-individually-simulated kind of games are really not my thing, but I wanted to give this an honest shot anyway! Unfortunately there are a couple too many things in the game that hinder the experience besides just my personal preference... I'm really sorry if this comes across as too negative but I do just want to help! I'll be very descriptive and specific about what I think could be improved: - First, if the game is fullscreen only, there should be a quit button without having to alt-tab out of the game. - The initial scene is a bit pointless. Usually, playable main menus in games are used as a safe playground for the player to learn the mechanics of the game. Think like, the Mario 64 hub world, or the Crypt of the Necrodancer stage select. With this game though, the main menu uses a completely different control scheme from the rest of the game, so even though I'd read the instructions I didn't know what to do. I even thought the game had crashed because there was no movement. A normal main menu would have probably been better. - As I played the game, it felt like the kind of game that desperately wanted to be 2D, or at least have a fixed, bird's eye view perspective, instead of the free camera you went with: - The initial camera angle is very confusing. It was jammed into the ground and was impossible to play without moving the camera up. - Vertical rotation of the camera is inverted from what I expected, so rotating the camera was awkward, and having to do it constantly during the game felt tiresome. - Clicking to move would have been a fine idea if the walls didn't always get in the way, and you didn't have to keep clicking to move one square at a time. This is the perfect example of what I mean by this game could have had a top-down view. You could just have had the camera fixed looking down, and arrow keys to move one square, and that's it! Or, if you still wanted the click-to-move mechanic, it would also be better, since the walls wouldn't be getting in the way of your mouse all the time. You could maybe add an auto-move option too, that just stops if an enemy attacks you, but that's just an optional QOL improvement. - The light ball also felt pretty useless since you can't see anything over the walls anyway. If the game was top-down, you could more easily use the balls to locate yourself. With the free-moving camera and identical walls all across the map, it's easy to lose track of the places you've been, even while using the light ball mechanic. - Finally, this one might be personal preference or skill issue, but I have no idea how the combat system works. x) I don't know what a dice pool is, or what difference each kind of attack and each body part makes, how to win or lose. I just kept choosing stuff and ended up dying. On my second and third playthroughs, no enemies appeared, but I couldn't reach the end anyway... Again I'm really sorry, I always prefer to be positive but I also think it's important to point out actual flaws when one finds them. I hope I didn't come across as a dick because that's not what I'm trying to do! I hope you can get some useful insight out of my comment. Captura de tela 2023-10-03 170313.png |
| Oct 3 21:14:52 | 1h 07m | Whacky Sally | ♥ 2 | Awww yeah this was so fun!! I loved this game's whole vibe, the simple but fun puzzles, snappy animations and movement, all felt really nice. I have just one little note: found it kinda difficult to know if I was gonna get hit by a mole or not, their attack range feels way farther than it should be based on the animation. Maybe if the game's movement was grid-based, or the animation more exaggerated, it would be easier to see the attacks. A shame it was so short, really left me wanting more! Though that's completely understandable given the time constraint lol. Good job guys!! Captura de tela 2023-10-03 181353.png Excuse the sloppiness, and also the fact that she's literally pressing down on her foot... |
| Oct 3 21:38:27 | 23m 35s | Calves of the Braves | ♥ 3 | Ahh this is so fun!! Really charming, if only I was better at it. 😅 The art style is unique and creative - I love how the bystanders fall over if someone is launched into them, the controls are ingeniously simple, but full of depth and require some mastery. I just know that playing this with a buddy would be very intense kdskj! You guys did an insanely good job. Didn't manage to get to the end unfortunately but I think I got pretty far, like 4 or 5. If I knew how many there were left I may have kept going x) Captura de tela 2023-10-03 183816.png |
| Oct 4 01:03:02 | 3h 24m | Laser Grid | ♥ 1 | EU VENCI!!! | Oct 4 01:17:42 | 14m 40s | COSMOSTRIDE | ♥ 3 | Very stylish game, I love the simple super-fx like graphics, the moody space music, the duplicated laser scope does look pretty cool kdsk! Shooting was fun too, felt very punchy and natural, just found the game a bit too easy, you just need to go around in circles and hold the mouse button at the enemies. I didn't find a reason to use any upgrades other than the shield, rapidfire and damage ones. Or maybe I'm just too good at videogames, idk! In any case I did really like just shooting and zipping around so I can't complain kjskj. great work ^^ Captura de tela 2023-10-03 222548.png |
| Oct 4 15:59:34 | 14h 41m | Pixel Piles | ♥ 6 | As a not-fan of Tetris, I don't think there's a lot I can add to the discussion, but I think this game is very expertly designed in some aspects and kinda finnicky in others. First let me just say I LOVE the art and animation. The character is soooooo cutee I love the twirly jumps it does and that cover art. The music has a really nice melody but I miss some percussion! The game's chaotic nature could have lended really well to a dance-inspired soundtrack. Nevertheless, about the actual game! I think its very creative how you actually have to play Tetris while platforming. I had seen the idea of Tetris + platforming done before - an old flash game called Tuper Tario Tros comes to mind - but never one so tightly integrated with the other. I like the simple controls and the shadow of where the block was landing is very handy. Physics felt a bit slippery at times, and that + the fact that hitting the walls makes the blocks turn can lead to frustrating situations, like rotating your long block right before you were about to make a Tetris. Some amount of fumbling is OK in games about multitasking, but the wall-hitting rotation + the slippery physics made me feel like not all of the times I failed were my fault. x) Though I'm already bad at Tetris so it's not like I was expecting to do well either lol Sorry for the messiness on the drawing I was afraid doing lineart would ruin it: Captura de tela 2023-10-04 125703.png |
| Oct 6 16:02:23 | 48h 02m | RelicBound | ♥ 3 | It's a fine simple game, though feels like there's a lot of stuff you planned but didn't have time to implement, like more weapons, and a use for the different relics. Killing enemies by just walking into them was fun enough, but I feel could have been more impactful by having some knockback, same thing when you get hit. I found the range of the sword kind of inconsistent, and then I noticed that for some reason you can hit enemies a lot farther away when you hit them from above than from all other directions, so I just started going up and down the scene and squishing them. Felt like I was sweeping my room ksdk. The graphics and animations are definitely the best part, and I wish I could have seen more of them, but the waves are too long for how simple the mechanics are, so it gets boring fast. All in all the game feels like a rough draft/debug area for something that could potentially be fun, just needs a lot more *girth*. Nevertheless, I see this is many of yalls first Ludum Dare so props for finishing at all! I hope to see you on the next event with more experience ^^ Captura de tela 2023-10-06 130204.png |
| Oct 6 16:22:25 | 20m 02s | Don't Get Crushed! | ♥ 2 | Fun idea! Though a bit too easy, felt more like playing green-light red-light than trying to find a place to hide. x) Even if you didn't find anywhere safe to hide, there is a free spot at the bottom of the screen at all times, so the crushers were just something to make you wait between obstacles. Levels were pretty long but they were also all very similar, I don't know if there's an end but I could have kept going forever anyway kdsk. I feel like with a little more variation this could be very very good! I wonder who's behind those crushers. Captura de tela 2023-10-06 132211.png |
| Oct 6 17:28:04 | 1h 05m | Tiny People Big Adventure | ♥ 5 | Oh lord... this has got to be my favorite game so far! It's just OOZING character! I was very excited to play this one because I know what you guys' gimmick is with the FMVs and stuff, so unique and actually adds to the experience in how charming it is, from the first second I was already smiling. As a former theater kid the acting is just the right amount of cheesy, *mwa*. The game itself is also very impressive, such a big board, so much content! All of the mechanics did feel a bit unintuitive at first, like the trading mechanic - I traded 25 gold for 1 food once without realizing ;w; - but after you keep going you start to slowly piece together how the game works as a whole. I feel like the UI was made for a bigger screen size than mine though, I'm playing on a 1366x768 laptop and the right-most button in most popup boxes where you make choices ended up being obscured by the status log, the one that shows you if you lost health, etc. Like a few others, I don't understand how fishing works, I'd keep my mouse pressed on the circle and the fish would just go to a corner and the line would break, decided to just avoid all fishing spaces. My play session lasted quite a long time and I met very different characters but unfortunately ended up succumbing to hunger, that'll teach me to learn how to fish.... Here's a recreation of my favorite moment: Captura de tela 2023-10-06 142744.png |
| Oct 6 19:14:56 | 1h 46m | Infinitum Labyrinth - Space Un-LIMITed | ♥ 2 | There are MANY aspects of this game I *adore*, like the use of web technology, the surrealist setting and use of emoji, the idea of solving different kinds of riddles in a repeating contrived space, and some of the riddles were actually very creative and left me feeling like a genius afterwards! This is when you know you've made a good puzzle game. Though I am very conflicted on whether I like the execution. x) I managed to solve until level 2 by myself, which felt great! Level 3 was confusing because I had gotten to a room with 7 falcons but they still weren't right. I didn't know that it literally meant "facing right", and after I read the guide I thought that was quite clever. I didn't know that going into other rooms would generate "new" 7 falcons that could be the right ones, I guess this part was just trial and error till I found them? Not sure. I don't really know where to put this so I'll say it in the middle: the duck character I found unbearably annoying, like a 9 year old kid who just learned the word bitch and wants to say it after every sentence. Felt a bit like trying too hard to be funny x) I think you intended for the character to be annoying but I think it went too far. Level 4 just didn't work I think. I spent a few minutes going nowhere into portals and just read the guide. I thought zooming in to read tiny words was really clever and went like "ah of course"! But even then, I zoomed in all the way, on the textbox, on the sign, everywhere, and saw nothing. I don't know if the answer is just really really well hidden or if the game broke, but I couldn't have beaten that one without the guide. Level 5 was fine and to the point, though here is where the enemies really started to get annoying (I know there's an option to disable it but I didn't know I wasn't gonna like them before starting the game). I think there shouldn't have been enemies at all, they just make it more annoying to go from place to place, and considering that level 6 requires the player to do a lot of backtracking through the confusing coordinate system and I didn't want to deal with the enemies *or* risk getting lost and never returning to the same point where I was again, I preferred to just read the guide again and be done. At the end I felt quite tired mentally. So I'm conflicted! This was one of the most interesting games I played in this jam, but I also was so tired after playing that I was glad it was over. 😅 Genuinely don't know if I liked it or not, but it was sure very unique. I guess one main suggestion I have for the, as it looks like, future part 2, is for you to focus on what the game is really good at: the riddles. Get rid of the enemies, give the player more direction if they are going the wrong way (like you did on the first puzzle with the "no" signs), allow them to be able to get back to the puzzle's starting point as quickly as possible if they mess up so it doesn't feel like the game is wasting their time. These kinds of games are very underrated and can be so satisfying, but it's also trivially easy to get them wrong, so the less annoyances and distractions that get in the way of your player and the puzzles, the better. I await excitedly for whatever your mysterious mind has to offer in the coming events. Anyway, here's a donut-duck: Captura de tela 2023-10-06 161042.png |
| Oct 6 19:54:32 | 39m 36s | Space Phantasy XIV - Disc 5 | ♥ 1 | This Is InCredible!!!! What an AMAZING game!!!!!! Damn that got me pumped. It's well written, funny as fuck, gorgeous art and music, got a clever mechanic that gets you thinking, satisfying when I actually beat it, plot twist that I *absolutely didn't see coming...* (sorry they had too much chemistry it was obvious!!) I have to say this is the first perfect entry I've played. Actually, one thing is that I'd like to be able to skip the text I'd already read, but skipping manually wasn't that difficult and didn't detract from the experience. What a joy, you did very good. Captura de tela 2023-10-06 165352.png |
| Oct 6 20:05:45 | 11m 13s | Panic Defense | ♥ 0 | Most I could do is 20. Fun lil game! Very simple, but I feel like you focused your attention well, the controls and graphics/animation are very good, not so much the music but that's fine. I like the idea of the brain getting tighter while you're in a panic attack, that's a fun way to represent it. I don't really have much feedback besides maybe, that dashing in other directions, like up, down and diagonally, could be fun? Would be easier to catch the enemies in the ceiling too. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it, you did a good job! Captura de tela 2023-10-06 170535.png |
| Oct 9 17:57:27 | 69h 51m | 2 Dudes against the Liquidator | ♥ 2 | What a fun mechanic! I think you nailed theme the most with this one. I can imagine playing this with a friend would be so much fun, though with a more lenient time limit ksdk. I think the timer would have been better if it counted up instead of down, that way you encourage players who want to go fast while not hurting the ones who wanna think harder and map out the room as a puzzle. x) One think I thought was a bit weird too was the trophy object, it felt a lot heavier on one side then the other, maybe it was intentional but it just felt like there were problems with the collision. Anyways, these minor things aside this was a really clever game, well designed levels and really fun mechanic, that's easy to understand but hard to master! Good job! Captura de tela 2023-10-09 144427.png |
| Oct 9 18:01:15 | 3m 48s | Candy Catcher | ♥ 4 | Short and sweet! I was surprised by how damn polished this game was, though seeing how the game itself lasts about 40 seconds, I can see you just used your priorities well and spent it on making the game beautiful. The mechanic is so simple and straight-forward, needs no explaining, and messing around with the physics is always great fun! Very creative use of the theme too. I can imagine this being somewhat expanded by making the hand into a tentacle to allow for bigger levels, though I don't know if it's worth it lol. It's just a simple dumb idea done really well. Nothing much to say. Captura de tela 2023-10-09 150057.png |
| Oct 9 18:05:45 | 4m 30s | No More Grandma! | ♥ 1 | Really funny and creative! I don't really understand how to get points, even though I survived a really long time I never seemed to get anything over 10 points. Anyway, I love the visual style and the wobbly arms, I feel that was a very smart choice and made this game a whole lot more unique! The mechanic is funny, though the game is very easy. The grandma always comes in the same pattern and you always barf really fast, so there is never a moment where you can mess up unless you try to. I could have kept going forever! Maybe with more variety this could be really special, though for now it's still very creative. Captura de tela 2023-10-09 150535.png |
| Oct 11 16:08:47 | 46h 03m | The Giant's Globe | ♥ 4 | Oh what a cool mechanic! The levels that utilized it to its more puzzle-y potential were my favorite. Speedrunning after my first attempt was really fun, though I was confused on why I couldn't submit my second, better score to the scoreboard? Feels a bit weird to focus a game around speedrunning but only on your first attempt ever. I also thought the moving platforms were a bit too numerous and slow, especially given how the game is oriented to speedrunning. Regardless, I had a lot of fun and saw major potential in this idea! I can only imagine what kind of zany abilities and combinations this could inspire, especially if you followed more the route of a slower-paced puzzle game, where you actually have to think about the order of the abilities you get. Good job! Captura de tela 2023-10-11 130820.png |
| Oct 14 03:48:25 | 59h 39m | Space LTD | ♥ 2 | You guys rated my game so you deserve a rating, unfortunately my PC is not beefy enough to run Unreal games, so I can't play. :< Here's a drawing of the player character as consolation. Captura de tela 2023-10-14 004747.png |
| Oct 14 17:29:55 | 13h 41m | Whiskers in the Dark | ♥ 6 | What a masterfully designed game! I love how you made the absolutely least threatening situation possible seem scary just by setting the tone with the art direction and sound design, and the juxtaposition of cute and creepy. The little puzzle-like levels and tight controls, like the way you stick to walls instead of sliding down them, perfectly complemented each other, every decision in this game felt very intentional. I'm very curious to how the collision with the lights worked too. One thing I thought was kinda weird was the jumping sprite, it feels like it goes a bit farther up than your hitbox, so when you try to reach high spaces sometimes it feels like you couldn't reach a place where your sprite clearly showed you could, also looks a bit weird when the cat phases through the roof quite a bit when jumping, because of how high the jumping sprite goes. I also feel like the double jump could have been better introduced, since I only *needed* it for a single level, and I forgot it existed by then. Nevertheless, this didn't negatively impact my experience at all, I was still able to finish it with no problems, the difficulty curve was very well designed, just a good game all around! Congrats to the team. <3 Captura de tela 2023-10-14 142937.png |
| Oct 14 17:53:40 | 23m 45s | cyber_serpent | ♥ 3 | This is outlandishly polished and juicy, goddamn. Beautifully cohesive audiovisual style. I couldn't get very far unfortunately, but this game is so satisfying to play I could keep going again and again. The words of encouragement in my ear helped a lot too lol, that's a funny touch. I really have nothing to say about this that hasn't already been said, this game is so perfect, precise and intentional, that it doesn't feel like it was created by humans. Captura de tela 2023-10-14 145214.png |
| Oct 14 18:03:30 | 9m 50s | The Little House That Had Been Very Good This Year | ♥ 0 | I think the idea of a house whose kids are SO good that Santa has to pile up presents is a pretty funny spin on this "building blocks" style of gameplay. Unfortunately the execution here is very barebones... The mouse gives you full control of where you drop the next block and, as others have said, this means you can get a better score just by spam-clicking, I think I got to 53 that way kdskj. Also, there is a weird bug (?) where, when my stack of presents got tall enough so that the scene switched to the house scene, my presents would all pop out of nowhere and ruin my stack on its own. For this kind of game you need to take some control away from the player, usually that is done by making the block swing from side to side, so that the player just has to click to drop at the right time. That makes the game a lot more skill-based. Not that clicking super fast isn't a skill, but I don't think it's how you intended the game to be played. x) One thing I really liked were the graphics. The graphics and the title were what made me want to play this, you managed to capture the claustrophobic cozyness of Christmas as a child very well. Captura de tela 2023-10-14 150320.png |
| Oct 14 18:13:38 | 10m 08s | Snowlord | ♥ 1 | Really cute idea and visuals! I have to say, even after creating a strategy and winning, I still feel like I don't understand how to play the game. When comparing the game with minesweeper, makes the game look a lot more complicated than it actually was. There were many numbers on the tiles, but that number never actually mattered to me, the only thing that matters is not clicking the tiles "too much" (however many times that is) so that the bully doesn't get angry, so my strategy was just to build as far as possible to unlock as many tiles as possible so I can dig as many different snow tiles as possible. After building far enough, it's only a matter of time before I dig too much and go into the tower defense mode, which you can win by only having built 5 castles. The way to getting there is pretty fun, don't get me wrong! I just ended up feeling like I cheesed the game and didn't play it correctly, because my strategy felt so brain-dead compared to how it explained itself. I think the game design could be streamlined to remove unnecessary details, or changed so that people play the game the way you envisioned without feeling like they cheated lol. All that said, I really enjoyed the game, felt pretty satisfying when I beat it, and like I was actually making progress with each playthrough. The funny comic-esque visuals and storytelling were really cute too. Congrats on the entry! Captura de tela 2023-10-14 151325.png |
| Oct 14 18:20:37 | 6m 59s | HEXAK | ♥ 2 | Simple lil score-attack city builder. The giant list of rules was definitely a turn-off at first, made it feel like I was about to play Factorio, but it's much more like a simple tile-based puzzle game. The visuals and audio were definitely the best part, very polished and satisfying. Placing tiles and getting points made me shiver with joy. I got a hundred-some points in a couple runs and felt like that was enough, could keep going and really learn the ins and outs but I learned that just spamming parks everywhere made me more points than actually thinking about what I was doing lol, brain still too small for this game.
| Oct 14 18:57:36 | 30m 29s | F.R.E.D | ♥ 1 | It's an impressive amount of content, with beautiful art and funny sound effects, although, even having read the notes in the game page I was still confused. It's OK for a game to deliberately not hold the player's hand and expect them to figure out what to do, but I don't think clarity should be sacrificed for that effect. The game has a lot of different objects that can be interacted with, but it's never clear what items can be interacted with, picked up, shoved, and the items that highlight change depending on what you're holding. While you're running and looking around, there is no visual distinction between items you can use, and just decorations, nor do you have any idea of what they do. And even though the game page mentions a science lab with a combination station, and an armory with a charging port but I swear I could not find these anywhere. I managed to figure out some game mechanics on my own, like how to kill some of the ooze by bringing it to a door to the outside and opening it, and how the little energy drinks on the floor are actually ammo for the laser gun, and that interacting with a wrench on a valve does, things, I could never understand how these mechanics connected together and how I could use them to progress, they felt like different mechanics in a sandbox playground. I'm a bit sad because this game looks REALLY clever, but I just really don't understand what I'm doing, doesn't feel fun to walk around for several minutes doing no progress just testing different things that do different kinds of nothing... I'm not gonna rate this game on anything other than graphics, audio, humor and mood, because I don't think my frustration is entirely due to faults in the game, and rating based on that, I feel, would be a disservice to the enormous effort and clear attention to detail you guys put here. I'm sure this is just not the kind of game for me. Captura de tela 2023-10-14 155656.png |
| Oct 14 19:32:34 | 34m 58s | Single Circle | ♥ 1 | Captura de tela 2023-10-14 161023.png Aww what a cute charming game!! Really made me appreciate Twine more as a story telling tool, hadn't played a game made with it before and it's very cool how such simple mechanics can still immerse you in a world. The story feels like one of those surreal childrens' books someone would have read to you when you were a kid, from which you would remember few but very specific details, not knowing if it was a real book or if you imagined it. I wasn't a big fan of the music, but I really liked the art style and writing style. Really clever use of the theme, to utilize a submarine's window as a limited space through which you see the world, small glimpses into a completely different reality that you can't really interact with outside of your own imagination. Really adorable and clever! I got the true normal ending, the "not volunteer" ending, and the "go insane" ending and I loved that one in particular because I didn't see it coming JKDSKJDS. I could have gotten more but it's a pretty long game to replay. marbles.jpg Anyway, here are my drawings, I made 2 because could not choose between the serious artist jellyfish with eyes, and the starfish queen, they both slay.
