Aug 14 02:12:35 Plushie Unicorn ♥ 1 First time I got stuck and lost.. second time, I ended up with 600+ unicorns.. and my hand & arm cramped up from mashing J.. so I gave up But 3rd time.. I raced to find the gear.. and attack those plushies! managed to keep them under 30.. with a tough battle on my hands.. my hand/arm starting to cramp again.. sweat beading on my brow.. I pushed through it.. 25.. 20.. more unicorns down.. final 10.. my face in gritty determination focused on the screen.. 3.. 2. .1 .. Win screen! I raised my arms over my head in a victory cheer That's 100% honest how it played out. Great challenge, and a fun game! While playing I also appreciated some of the coding/work you did in there.. the object instantiation process.. The random placement of the Radio and Airdrop (second game I thought, now I know where to go.. raced to the room, and said "Oh, you sly tricky dev!" when I saw it wasn't there), as well as the random placement/growth of the unicorn packs
Aug 14 03:15:30 1h 02m Clippy's Awakening ♥ 3 Brilliant! I was smiling the entire time - excellent use of theme, and so much fun. The cursor weapon was a great idea, and the power ups were excellent! A+ I encountered the same issue as the other players mentioned.. the 2 hand boss, the hands blew up, and I continued to fight invisible hands that were shooting at me. I fought a good 5 minutes before I finally gave up. Aside from that last bug / not seeing the game ending, it's still super solid and fun, excellent work!
Aug 15 00:15:28 20h 59m Guardian Of The Tengri Mountain ♥ 1 Wonderful and creative artwork and animation! The game mechanic/puzzle is very nice too, a good thinker. I honestly wouldn't stop here with the LD submission.. I think the art and mechanic is enough to finish this up.. add some music/ambiance, with some other sound effects.. some kind of scoring system, and an instructional start screen of sorts, and it's a solid game!
Aug 16 02:36:09 26h 20m Space Invasion ♥ 1 Very well done. The progression was well balanced, and I loved having the gun power up for terrain manipulation.
Aug 16 02:47:34 11m 25s Body Hiding Simulator 1995 ♥ 1 Great idea/concept, very hilarious! Voice acting was fabulous!
Aug 16 02:55:01 7m 27s Cluckbait ♥ 1 I love the art style, and the sound effects! Could benefit from added difficulty, but it was still fun.
Aug 16 03:00:46 5m 45s Gutted Goblin Trading Co ♥ 2 Really wonderful. The music was so fitting and perfect.. it made it such a peaceful and fun experience moving boxes around.. almost in a zen like state of organizing/sorting, even with the chaos of the inbound conveyor belts.
Aug 16 03:14:17 13m 31s Dungeon Trader ♥ 2 I really enjoyed this! When the theme was announced, inventory management came to mind for me too, but I wasn't sure a great way to pull it off, but I think you did! After a few rounds it all started making more sense and I was doing much better in the game and having a lot of fun! Like other people mentioned, a more full fledged game of this seems completely possible! The constructive criticism I have: While it stated on the game pages, having more details in the game on what items do, like mouse / hover over descriptions of the potions and such, could be beneficial to making sense of things faster for the player.
Aug 16 03:22:21 8m 04s Space Taters ♥ 0 I came for the title card/graphic (very cool!).. and stayed for the name.. Space Taters! Very cool you went with Java! It took a bit to get used to the controls, but the good humor made up for it during my learning curve.
Aug 17 01:12:14 21h 49m Rainbow Rave ♥ 1 The title card is great, I love the font/name art. The graphics in the game are also very nice - as someone else mentioned, having a closer view to the action would have been nice, to see that beautiful art. I thought the title screen, which then transitioned to a quick instruction then start options was done very well. That alone was worth watching a few times! I also like the liquid sloshing inside the unicorn you were able to achieve, very nice effect. Music and sound effects were also excellent, I was jamming out to the tunes as I roamed around drinking. I too wasn't sure about the endgoal, I never reached any type of success/score/completion screen. I did have fun enjoying the rest of what you put into this, but I wasn't sure if I ever "won" or even could win. Great work overall!
Aug 17 02:18:27 1h 06m Running out of S.P.A.C.E. ♥ 1 I had a great time with this Frank - I spent about 30min trying out various things before solving everything. Nice work putting this together!
Aug 17 02:30:49 12m 22s Drying Up ♥ 1 I like that you tackled a new technology for the event, and were able to complete a project in the timeframe with that new challenge! I had no issues with performance, but I have a gaming rig.. gtx 1080ti, etc.. The art/environment was very nice, and the subtle other effects like bubbles and such were nicely done too. I'm a bit on the fence with the movement mechanic. I like that you were thinking outside the box with it, and making it a more organic / "be one with the fish" feeling, but what I didn't personally like with that is the camera being statically tied to those movements/fov for the fish, making for a bit of a nauseating experience when trying to swish back and forth too quickly. Perhaps if you allowed the fish to move with the mouse as designed, but applied a gentle rotation/non static follow to the camera as those movements were occuring, it could improve the visual experience during the moving, and still be a great movement mechanic. All in all, very impressive for the timeframe and with a new technology, nice work!
Aug 17 02:38:35 7m 46s Dungeon Faller ♥ 0 It took a minute to get used to the shooting mechanic/consequence, so I wouldn't kill myself each time being near a rock or a well, which was a good challenge. I like your take on the theme as well, nice job!
Aug 17 23:19:58 20h 41m Concentrate ♥ 1 Very cool concept, and fun to play around with. Playing at the menu I found more enjoyable - without the time limit, as I would have preferred the gameplay to either just end when you make a mistake an hit another note, or when you fill the board, as opposed to having a timer.. as playing notes to just fill the spot to beat the timer didn't feel like making music.. just rushed. All in all it was very fun, and a great idea, I think you could really evolve this into something great! PS - Fruity Loops! That takes me back.. I loved FL studio back in the early 2000's.. glad to see they're still around. Oh, and PS2: I love the name and Orange slice reference in your graphic / design!
Aug 17 23:25:05 5m 07s You Shoot Walls ♥ 1 Nice idea, and a fun play! Simple and cute.. good music and sound effects. I found I wasn't shooting walls.. just dots in a sense.. as they got close. Perhaps adding enemies that would shoot at you, or countdown to a deathray you can't dodge, forcing you to shoot them farther away, would allow the level to fill up with more walls quicker as you fight them.
Aug 17 23:32:12 7m 07s Cryptovirus ♥ 2 I'm not one to normally run a file named "cryptovirus.exe" .. but I'm glad I did. The ramp up of the difficulty was a bit rough imo, but still enjoyable. Adding mechanics and their introduction in gameplay as you progress I'm a big fan of, and you did this quite well. Nice work overall!
Aug 18 01:14:52 1h 42m Running out of Platforms ♥ 1 Nicely done! The difficulty ramps up well, and get's to a good chaotic level around 1000. The particle effects worked well, and the flying saucer model was cool. I felt it was missing a final touch on the meteor destruction.. no particles or sound there, just vanished.. so that would have been nice, but I assume you ran out of time and had to cut it out. All in all, a good time and well done! I love your requirements listed on the LD page too! :)
Aug 18 02:52:49 1h 37m Hoard ♥ 1 I had a surprisingly good time with this! Honestly at the start I thought "this is silly.. and painful with the slow control" - but then I saw the shift command, and had a fun organizing things.. and then the last item I had to hand to my "friend", which I loved the audio on, it was very cute! I had a great time from that point forward. I would have loved even more "friend" interaction and audio included, it's audio and poses/animation made me smile. I think the art is great, and the mechanics are very well done. Good take on the theme too! Excellent job all around!
Aug 18 03:10:07 17m 18s Captain Starbeard and the Curse of the Wonky Equipment ♥ 1 Nice work. Your parallax background and menu were well done, and the graphics/combat/sound were nicely polished. Your take on the theme is very interesting, - I enjoyed the sci-fi paper/rock/scissors approach. I didn't quite fully grasp the grid concept.. well I think I did, but I think I cheated it. I had loaded up the grid with all the pieces, and would just put them back in the same spot when they were ejected, even on top of red power grid spots - the ship held up fine during this, and the mission was completed. Maybe a penalty for having parts on top of the red grid spots would prevent this type of play. All in all though, cool little game that was well executed, thank you for sharing!
Aug 18 03:22:02 11m 55s SHTACKITT ♥ 1 Very cool game! The use of the theme is great, and I love the mechanics/play for this. It's very fun to try and find that perfect piece and fit it in there to get the highest multiplier. I'd love to have some music and sound in it, and perhaps an infinite mode, where you don't have the stress of the clock.. just the zen feeling of fitting a 100% perfect container. Excellent work overall!
Aug 18 03:29:57 7m 55s Quicksort ♥ 1 Nice work, a fun organizational game with a great take on the theme!
Aug 18 03:38:04 8m 07s Swords & Forks ♥ 0 Really cool stuff! I agree with other posters that you have the start of something really great here! It's a lot of fun in it's current state!
Aug 18 03:53:57 15m 53s Personal Space ♥ 1 I love the title card and idea. The game was cute, with a nice music track. Good job!
Aug 18 03:59:08 5m 11s That's the Tip! ♥ 1 Very cool game. The art is great, and it's very well polished! Nice work! My only negative comment/FYI is that it seems to be coded to force full screen at start up, instead of a standard Unity 'pick your resolution' - which did cause me some issue with UI being cut off on an ultrawide monitor. But that's no biggy, just a small technical thing. The game itself is really well done, fun, and funny! Great job!
Aug 18 13:19:20 9h 20m Too Close ♥ 1 Sorry to hear about your power issue/hurdles during development. That said, it's a great effort. I really like the art style; I loved the Mona Lisa painting in that style! The animation is cute too.. walking kind of looks like ice skating, but that's okay, it worked well and was pleasant to view.
Aug 18 13:31:26 12m 06s Space Dog Escape ♥ 1 Good stuff! The music is nice, and I love that you incorporated a leaderboard in such a short time. The scoring mechanic is nice too, with trying to get the monster in the level warp door. I also noticed that you made sure if the player ended up getting outside the play area and falling off the screen you accounted for that, respawning the player inside the play space, so nice work anticipating that bug/issue. It was a fun game to play, nice work!
Aug 18 14:46:55 1h 15m Junkyard: Crash it & Cash it ♥ 0 Nice work, it was fun to play - a great take on the theme! The car acceleration was a bit too much for my taste, but I did love how you animated the tires moving for turning.
Aug 18 14:52:37 5m 42s Bleach Beach ♥ 1 The hand drawn art is great, and I loved how you you introduced the moving mechanic; forcing the player to know how to move to move to the start of the game. The shooting/physics/gameplay was a little lacking in my opinion, but it was very nice to look at!
Aug 18 15:10:00 17m 23s Continuum ♥ 1 Very nicely done! Clean and simple graphics, with a nice soundtrack to match. The logo/title card were also very well done. I appreciated that you included a queue/visual indicator for players prior to events, such as the enemy dash, or a black hole spawning, I feel that's great game design! The only thing I feel could be improved is the graphic and text rendering. While it was clean and minimalistic, it did have some tiny amounts of pixelation/fuzz at various resolutions I tried. Leveraging some of Unity's features to do pixel perfect, and screen scaling, and other methods to allow for a very super crisp graphic would add a perfect final touch to the look in my opinion. That said, it's very close how it is, and I think you did a great job with the style and delivery!
Aug 18 15:34:26 24m 26s Oh, sh*t! — Ludum Dare #42 — Running out of space ♥ 1 Great title, and a nice take on Tetris.. with well fitting sound effects. The animation of the little guy blinking was very cute, nicely done on that! While the gameplay is good, it definitely could use some fleshing out with a title screen/instructions/goal, etc.. great concept though, and a good take on the theme!
Aug 18 15:44:19 9m 53s Air Dream ♥ 0 Level transition was great, as well as the sound effects, very "Airport/flying" feel & mood! The placement of people seemed a bit too easy, only because of the highlighted and grayed out seats, so I didn't have to do my own analytical thought on where that person would fit.. just find a lit up seat and put them there. Perhaps a slight increase in the difficulty/puzzle solving there could help, such as not highlighting.. just doing a red X/error for the player when he attempts to place the person in the wrong seat. Overall, great work!
Aug 18 15:56:12 11m 53s RE:Boot ♥ 1 Nice work, I found it very funny and challenging. The audio clips for each attack were great! For improved feature thoughts: I would have liked to see the "CurrentPopulation" update when I had a country selected to reflect the damage I was doing, without clicking away and back, as well as an auto-rotate and focus feature with the camera for selecting another country. All in all, I had a good time playing this, with some laughs. Nice job!
Aug 18 16:20:26 24m 14s DataSkream ♥ 3 Very impressive! Such polish and a great feature set, like having a leaderboard! The visual effects were great, synced extremely well with the audio/music. I appreciated the respawn helper platform under the player, that's good game design. It's a very fun endless runner style game, definitely a bit addictive! The song for it is great, it doesn't wear on you and has a nice gradual build, making you want to keep playing to hear more and more, kind of like "The impossible game". That's nice of you to call out Sebastian Lague in your description, I've been a fan/subscriber for awhile, and learned a lot from him as well. I tried both keyboard and xbox controller, and both worked well. Controller was a bit more fun, but that's what I play most games with anyway. I did notice I couldn't start or restart the game with the xbox controller, I had to use the mouse to click the start & restart button - no biggy though for a jam game, a simple fix if you're able to replicate it I'm sure. Overall, A+ - very well done!
Aug 18 17:48:43 1h 28m Sthog ♥ 2 The art assets are great, and the music was good. I wasn't certain how to accomplish the goal, and using "E" on intractable items never seemed to work. Good effort though!
Aug 18 17:58:04 9m 21s Storage War ♥ 1 Very nicely done low poly assets! Good character control. A+ for putting in options with multiple control schemes, different char skins, and audio control etc. I found the sound effects humorous. The gameplay was challenging. You accomplished a lot in those 72 hours, nicely done!
Aug 19 13:20:58 19h 22m Black Market Nostalgia ♥ 1 Nice work! Excellent foundation to expand on. As other reviewers have stated, as well as you, additional features that you weren't able to fit in before the deadline would add a lot to the game. For what's there, I really liked the industrial sounding music, it went perfect with the game and really set the mood. The interface and design is nice too. I love the use of vhs and cassette tapes for Nostalgia items.
Aug 19 13:30:15 9m 17s Proto Dash ♥ 3 Very impressive! This is the most "complete" and well polished game I've tried so far in LD42. It's very apparent that you have a very talented and cohesive team to pull this off! I liked many of the small touches that showed great polish, like the subtle camera move from mouse movement at the main menu, and replacing the mouse cursor.
Aug 19 13:34:36 4m 21s Dodghell ♥ 1 Very fun simple concept. I like that you targeted mobile devices for your entry. Nice graphics, audio, and gameplay! The only issue I noticed was that the player/ball hitboxes seem too big.
Aug 24 00:24:18 106h 49m CapyBarbra: A New Brow ♥ 1 Nice work, fun times! I loved the minimap idea, worked great! The music and sound effects, along with the initial story voiceover, are great.
