Apr 29 20:57:00 The Square - By Suese Wow, haha, not bad, not bad, wasn't expecting that after the intro! Pretty funny, I guess. Although, I agree with everyone on the attacking- I just kept hitting the button wondering why nothing was happening at first.
Apr 30 01:02:00 4h 05m Arena Wow! This is pretty nice. I love the visuals.
Apr 30 01:13:00 11m 00s The Creation Wow. This is incredible. A very rewarding experience, especially after you see how many other people couldn't solve the puzzles, haha. (I got the trick to the third one almost the second it opened up!)
Apr 30 01:25:00 12m 00s Composition Number 10 Minigame combat is something I like, but it does get annoying. I found myself groaning when I couldn't avoid the enemies. Which reminds me, the fact that you move faster diagonally, while helpful when avoiding them, might not be something you guys desire. Also, I wouldn't have based so many minigames off reaction time. It sets you up for a very limited audience. <br/> <br/>I made a game based off Mondrian and his De Stijl movement as well, so I was interested to see how you guys used it.
Apr 30 01:44:00 19m 00s The Rules Are Simple... Wow! Fantastic, fantastic work! I love the animation when the player is loading. I made a Mondrian/De Stijl based game, too, but this is probably a bit more polished.
Apr 30 01:48:00 4m 00s Minimalism I hate to tell you, but this link only gives me a white screen. I'm on chrome.
Apr 30 01:55:00 7m 00s Dooberflop Definitely a good job on the music for your first time composing stuff. I played until the potato! The instructions in the beginning roll by a little too fast for me. <br/> <br/>P.S. Your windows and mac builds could be improved. Tweet me if you'd like details. :)
Apr 30 16:29:00 14h 34m Freedom Haha, wow! I got the phone by accident at first, but then I went back to read the comments and see if you mentioned how I got it. BoRING... Hahaha, funny. But you really do need to make it more apparent to the player how they solved the problem. <br/> <br/>All in all, love it.
Apr 30 16:48:00 19m 00s Mini Pirates! Nice game, quite minimalistic indeed. I feel like it could have used some random elements, like in how much treasure you get or how many people die. But it was fun, definitely made me feel pirate-y!
Apr 30 17:23:00 35m 00s hru I got to the top platform, but couldn't bounce high enough to win. I'll likely try again later! <br/> <br/>Excellent mood, the whole game feels very unified artistically. Good work!
Apr 30 17:46:00 23m 00s Stargazers I like it, I like it, even if I don't get all the references. <br/> <br/>The tutorial guy feels a little out of place, really. I feel like the instruction text could be better substituted by something more visual, like an arrow pointing to one star, then the next after you click the first... <br/> <br/>The visuals are just as good as always, and the gameplay feels nice and relaxing. Good job!
Apr 30 18:24:00 38m 00s DoubleW I got through all the levels, quite an odd little gem you have here. The last one was way too hard, but it was pretty enjoyable. I feel bad for everyone who barely spent any time on it.
Apr 30 19:13:00 49m 00s hunter hungry As always, a brilliant game from Jonathan Whiting. Thoughts: <br/>-Excellent idea to display those particles when it's time to go back. Does the job of telling the player what to do nicely. <br/>-I love the fact that you excluded the concept of death/restart that have become so universal. Giving failing an actually heavy penalty was appreciated. However, while I realize the monotony was important to the mood, the game might be more enjoyable if the failure levels were shorter, or you came out closer to where you fell. <br/>-It might also be good if the size of the range for hitting the swinging anchor blocks was larger than the box itself, just to make it easier. Although admittedly that might be slightly difficult. <br/>All in all, amazing.
Apr 30 20:18:00 1h 05m Between the lines I made a game based off the whole Mondrian/De Stijl thing, too, and I like the look of yours! <br/> <br/>I admit, I used the skip level button 3 or 4 times and only got nine potatoes, but I think I can say I beat it. <br/> <br/>All the green blocks were really annoying, and the fact you had to hold up while phasing through walls at certain puzzles wasn't immediately clear, but other than that, great work. You have real skill for level design, and a lot of it.
Apr 30 20:34:00 16m 00s Solitary Nice. A very good story. <br/> <br/>I feel like the voice laid on the plot a bit too thick all at one time, but it was still enjoyable. My point is, if the voice revealed everything a bit more gradually, then it might feel a bit more smooth.
Apr 30 20:53:00 19m 00s Dungeoneer Wow. I like the way you mix twine and more graphical gameplay- odd, but nice.
Apr 30 21:21:00 28m 00s Composition with Yellow, Red, and Blue Haha. The love story is a bit long, but it's appreciated. <br/> <br/>I made a Mondrian/De Stijl game too, but you stuck closer the the whole "Composition #10" vibe. <br/> <br/>The mechanics are pretty nice. I agree with metadept on that counterintuitiveness.
Apr 30 21:36:00 15m 00s The Fair King Personally, I didn't enjoy it, sorry. I'll probably try it again later, but this game and I really just aren't friends right now. For me, sometimes the line stops drawing in the middle while I'm still holding down the mouse, and it got really annoying since it only divides if the line's ends are outside the black rectangle. It's probably more my fault than yours, but I'm just too frustrated with it. I won't rate it yet.
Apr 30 21:54:00 18m 00s simpLify I think the problem with the sound puzzle is that the idea of what sounds right together just isn't intuitive for everyone. I half picked what sounded right, half just guessed, but I got it after a few minutes. <br/> <br/>That said, I could really feel the minimalism in this- well done on that note.
Apr 30 22:20:00 26m 00s The Last Soul A very nice little game. I enjoy the simplicity. And the graphics are nice, too, cool way to use particles.
Apr 30 22:37:00 17m 00s BASHLAND - Breakout Mario Mashup Not too bad, I guess. My major issue with it is the lack of a worthwhile or well defined goal. If you wanted the player's goal to be to get to the end of each level, then that's a pretty weak goal, just hold right. If you wanted it to be to break all the blocks, then there really isn't much motivation to do that. <br/> <br/>P.S. Piet Mondrian would never use the color green, muahahaha.
Apr 30 22:44:00 7m 00s 10 Second Language Great experimental game! Wow. It's very unique.
Apr 30 22:49:00 5m 00s Entity Huh. Normally, I wouldn't rate something like this that high at all, but you somehow seemed to really boil down the platformer genre to its core concepts.
Apr 30 23:47:00 58m 00s # Don't look now, but I think our games have the same name...
May 1 17:28:00 17h 41m Gods Will Be Watching Crow. I've played this game at least ten times by now, and while I finally got to the last day with the radio fully repaired, I still died of hypothermia at the same time a message from Sgt. Burden came up about how "WE'RE GETTING OFF THIS PLANET!" So if there was some sort of ending animation, I didn't get to see it. Bummer. I'll be trying again! <br/> <br/>A very good game, as you can tell from the number of times I've played it. My biggest complaints: <br/>-Keeping the fire lit, while an understandable goal, can feel a bit like micromanagement. One time, I died because I didn't notice it was out on a day I did group therapy. Now, how on earth could an entire day doing group therapy cause you to forget to keep the fire lit? <br/>-The typos! They're everywhere! EVERYWHERE! A lot of the spelling mistakes broke the immersion for me at times, but it could just be me.
May 1 20:43:00 3h 15m Blurr Got to the end eventually. Trial and error is not particularly good for games, but I understand if you wanted to experiment with it. At first, I thought the background flopping between sun/ sun and cloud would give me some kind of clue, but it didn't seem to.
May 1 21:53:00 1h 10m The Road Very nice. I've been playing for 20 minutes, and I only got to 16 so far. Criticisms: <br/>-I like all the death messages, but they're a little bit all over the place. The pure comedy ones take away from the part of the game about realizing how many people die at young ages and how ripped off they are. Then again, without them, the game isn't funny. My point is, you may want to pick one or the other. <br/>-I don't really like having to wait a few seconds to watch the instructions every new round.
May 1 22:05:00 12m 00s Life & Minimalism While not well polished, this game definitely felt good. I echo everything netguy said. =)
May 1 22:24:00 19m 00s Rapid Tunnel Future It's okay. To be quite honest, it didn't hold my attention for that long, I guess I just don't get addicted to things like everyone else here. But you definitely get a good theme score, very nice.
May 1 22:46:00 22m 00s Multiplied Screens Nice! I love the whole idea of colors mixing to create white behind this game. The random beginning collision glitch was minorly annoying though.
May 1 23:33:00 47m 00s TOOM Man, it's such a shame that you couldn't put in everything you wanted to, I really want to see where this was going. I beat it, though. Great art.
May 2 01:02:00 1h 29m Press Z Not bad! Criticisms: <br/>-The font used for the numbers doesn't match the rest of the game, if you know what I mean. <br/>-I felt like the levels don't really fit the game's style. It would be better if the whole thing was just one level, and it slowly got harder and harder as time went on.
May 4 21:47:00 68h 45m Dot Beat it! There was one level where I had no idea what I clicked to solve it. It was very minimalistic, although it almost feels like there should at least be a "YOU WIN!" screen.
May 4 22:12:00 25m 00s FOLD Wow. I love how there's different sound effects for left and right movement, incredible. It really lulls you in to a sense of sleep. That camera could use some work though.
May 4 22:37:00 25m 00s MONO Very well polished, and some very good level design. You did great with the 48 hours.
May 4 23:39:00 1h 02m When All You Have Is A Hammer All Your Problem Start To Look Like Nails Very, very fun puzzles. I love the scrolling messages every level. You also made great use of minimalism and your mechanic. Well done. <br/> <br/>I would have played it all the way through, but I accidentally closed the window on the "Note to self:" level. I might try and beat it someday.
May 11 19:08:00 163h 29m Potato Dungeon Very nice. You guys have a really, really strong combat system with these swords. And the graphics are fantastic. My only complaint that can be of any use to you guys is that pressing W is a bad choice for dismounting. I kept pressing W when I wanted to jump out of habit from other games, and I'd dismount against my will. <br/> <br/>Another thought: if there were a game that controlled the sword similar to this, except that clicking thrusted the sword and allowed for slash attacks (i.e. hold the mouse button while swinging forward) then that would be a very cool game. ;)
May 13 01:42:00 30h 34m Paint It Black I agree with everything on the boringness/lawnmowing. Personally, I would have made it so that you only have to paint something like 80% black, and randomly spawned new enemies throughout the game. I also thought touching them and then pressing space was a rather boring way to kill them. <br/> <br/>The graphics are oddly very good looking in their simplicity.
May 13 01:52:00 10m 00s Rokhopr A little bit hard, perhaps, but a very good implementation of minimalism. Well done.
May 13 02:03:00 11m 00s Meat Meets Potatoes I got to the 1500 mark. I like it. Not exactly original, but nice enough. <br/> <br/>P.S. What did I tell you about enabling anti-alias on pixel fonts? Go to your room, young man!
May 13 22:40:00 20h 37m Art: The Game I really want to insult you right now, but I don't think I have time for what might follow, so I'm just going to say "Not bad." and walk away.
May 13 23:08:00 28m 00s A Trigger Darkly Ah, Azure, you master of minimalism, you. I really don't know how you do it sometimes. <br/> <br/>It really started creeping me out a bit when I started counting to aid my reaction time... The time from an enemy's first sound to its attack, the amount of steps it took... crazy stuff.
May 13 23:33:00 25m 00s This is not a minimalist game Quite a weird interpretation of the theme. I approve! You definitely got a good amount done for the 48 hours.
May 14 19:52:00 20h 19m App Escape Hehe, funny stuff. Not very relevant to the theme, but I appreciate your thought for story.
May 14 20:05:00 13m 00s Reach the Moon I cannot describe to you how much I love this. It just hits all the right points for me. Great job, really great job.
May 14 20:36:00 31m 00s Guru Hahaha! Solved all the puzzles. Probably the best artwork I've seen so far in these games. I mean, really, how do you do it? Great puzzles, great humor, altogether feels very polished.
May 14 21:04:00 28m 00s Complexity To be honest, Rob, I think you've done better. This game just didn't work for me. The lack of crosshair kept making me miss enemies literally right in front of me. The checkpoint for the boss battle was placed right in the middle of the battle, so I could die three times in a row. The reload was just annoying. I don't know, it just wasn't fun. <br/> <br/>P.S.- I think a good personal challenge for your next LD might be to make a game without first person platforming elements. =)
May 15 01:18:00 4h 14m Cpt. Sqrjaw Pure hectic fun, just as it should be! I could see this being fleshed out with levels and related nonsense very well. Great art, too. Well done.
May 15 01:32:00 14m 00s CHAMELEON RUN Enjoyable, definitely not a bad idea for a second button in the infinite runner genre. There's a lot of screen tearing, but it's not that big an issue. Cool game.
May 15 19:13:00 17h 41m Moondar I've got to say, Leafo, you have a really good way of mixing Love 2D with 3D. Your games also have a really neat "Nintendo Hard" feel. No checkpoints. I feel that you had some idea in mind for what the platforms and rectangles in the way were meant to actually be, but you ran out of time to give them models. I'm interested in what they were supposed to look like. <br/> <br/>I didn't get that far at the time of this comment, but I may try again later.
May 15 20:23:00 1h 10m Antichromatic I gave up after a while, hardcore metroidvanias aren't my style. Now, if they're hardcore with levels that can be accessed from a level select screen at any point, entirely different story. <br/> <br/>Your level design instincts are very, very good.
May 15 21:18:00 55m 00s Katana Senpou Very, very fun! I love it! This would actually make a pretty good combat system in some larger RPG. Not that the game isn't already plenty good on its own! <br/> <br/>Suggestion: If you want to add more visual polish (as if the game need it) you could make the rock-paper-scissors thoughts put the enemies in different stances, to reinforce the idea that it's a "move."
May 16 20:13:00 22h 55m Million Dollar Manbaby I kept dying immediately after killing the Yeti. Fun game. Although you should know that when I clicked to retry the fourth time, I couldn't pick up any limbs on this fourth play. <br/> <br/>The attacking definitely isn't perfect, but it's a marvel that you finished the limb mechanic in 72 hours. Awesome.
May 16 20:47:00 34m 00s TOWLDR No... Towlr... not another Towlr... anything but that... don't make me- NO! <br/> <br/>Heheh, fun game. The fact that clicking meant death on some levels got annoying when the window lost focus and Flixel froze the game and you had to click it, but that's mostly my fault. <br/> <br/>I feel like I had more to say, but I already forgot all of it.
May 19 18:36:00 69h 49m Nod Haha, funny. Nice concept, although it felt like it was missing some polish here and there. <br/> <br/>I admit, I cheated and looked at the XML. Sue me. I wanted my date.
May 20 19:48:00 25h 12m Block Disco I dig it. It looks and sounds great, and I love the floaty feel of the blocks. Great character sprites.
May 20 20:07:00 19m 00s [placeholder] Woah, great. I made a game a long time ago named [placeholder] too, but I think this one's a lot better. <br/> <br/>I love the comments as tutorials, awesome! Although, admittedly, some of that code might be a bit daunting for non-programmers. But who cares? They probably aren't your intended audience anyway. <br/> <br/>There are some minor collision bugs (try jumping while holding left with a tile directly to the left) and the save mechanic is a bit hard to understand at first. Also, the sounds are very grating if you happen to have a headache, but that's mostly my fault. =)
May 20 20:16:00 9m 00s JOHN Definitely way too short, but that's a compliment, it's well done. I appreciate that you opted for mouse control to choose a direction. The title screen feels like it should have been typed rather than crudely drawn- you're allowed to use fonts in the LD! Also, there were parts of one level that appeared as if floor, but I couldn't walk to them. Invisible walls aren't fun.
May 20 20:43:00 27m 00s Phlux A) Love the floaty menus. <br/>B) Cool mechanics! Very well designed and fun. <br/>C) Sometimes, I couldn't reach one node with a certain node, and then after restarting the level, I could. Odd.
May 21 00:31:00 3h 48m Budget Squad I'm kind of in a hurry, so I didn't play until the end, but the graphics are good as always. Don't worry, I won't give you an overall five just because of your graphics. I'm pretty positive you must hate that.
May 21 00:50:00 19m 00s I DIED. Well, first of all, you guys are geniuses for changing the death message every replay. Am I the only one who noticed that? Talk about replay value! Wow! You people have definitely got on to my "play more of this game later" list. I need to see where it leads (and begins- I didn't start reading it until later). <br/> <br/>I love the graphical style and the playful gruesomeness. Very good feel. I really ought to download Binding of Issac, I bought it in an old Humble Bundle but never played it. Also very good physics.
May 21 01:09:00 19m 00s m Wow, great! Perfectly captures simplicity and minimalism. Too bad I'm too late to rate. I was unable to finish the game, I think it was around level 8 when I drew the line. =)
