LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Morbid adventurer by PancakeFriday 2018-12-05T09:57:57Z

Hey there, saw you were looking for some constructive criticism, so I only played once so far, I'm waiting for my turn to play again. The things I've noticed so far. The music doesn't loop and stops after like a minute, which really isn't too bad because it's just 10 notes mashed together, I'm fully aware we're not all professional musicians but maybe next time try making it a bit more complex in order to not have this repetitive feel to it.

I also haven't come across any monsters, I just wandered around empty rooms that were already explored until I came across a door I had to sacrifice myself to open, I suppose this isn't the way the game is intended to feel like and I was unlucky. Another little detail is that when you spam the space bar, the attack sound just plays non stop while you only attack every so often, maybe you should have included the sound in your attack method so it only plays when you dash. Aaaand I can finally play again, I'll post another comment if I have anything to add, cheers!

Alright, done, I went back to the place I had died last time and it seems the adventurer that explored in between my runs decided to go elsewhere, I explored a new room and finally met some of your monsters. The combat gameplay is simple yet effective, it's just a tad hard because the way the monsters "bounce" of the wall is a bit unpredictable.

I love the idea of exploring a dungeon using a map other people worked for and helping a common goal and I love the way you can leave messages to people (although I hope you can fix the send button soon because it's a pain to get it to work).

Overall, it's a good experience and I am fully aware that 48 hours is a short time to come with anything more than what you provided. I love the idea behind the game and that is what is truly important when it comes to game jam and the creativity involved.

Summertime Sadness by supr 2018-12-05T10:08:18Z

Alright, if I may be honest right of the bat without playing the game. The folder we have to download is 418MB, it's very large for a gamejam project and I don't doubt many people will just pass on to another game rather to download it which is sad. You should be careful about this for the next time and try to make minimal side asset requirement projects in order to reduce this file size.

The Grassland Kings by Mathstr0fficial 2018-12-04T16:20:52Z

Is this winnable ? God damn, I've just tried like 20 times in a row and I just can't do it! x)

It's pretty good though, maybe the difficulty (the difference in hp pool or the light drain) is a bit too high.

HELL by Smeax 2018-12-04T01:16:40Z

Yes, the game was pretty fine. Good graphics, fluid movements and actions, fun. The only minus for me was the sounds, they sound a little rough, reminds me of the time I tried using BFXR

Journey To The Promise Land by royur 2018-12-04T11:56:57Z

I love how your zip file is called "JourneyFinalFinal" it sounds so Jam-like. Otherwise, the idea is interesting to say the least, it's too bad you couldn't add all you wanted, but it's like that for many people (me included).

The only thing I would have to say is that either you shouldn't be able to move your units before departing or the trip should be shorter, because I moved my units before starting the trip and then would just wait a minute for it to end. Cheers!

Airtime by Virtual Turtle Studio 2018-12-05T10:25:10Z

Hey there, I love the game. The idea is pretty simple and fun to play.

The game could've been slightly better with a good indicator of where the wembie is going to drop from. Also, right clicking the pillars to rotate them counter clockwise would have been nice.

The Dilemmnist by mmiddleton 2018-12-04T12:18:39Z

I would love to try and play your game but it doesn't seem to work properly (or maybe I'm too dumb).

I launch the .exe (windows), it opens the game, show me "The Dilemmist" blue screen with "Press esc to quit" and that's it, like I can quit the game and it's all I can do... Is this the first dilemma I have to solve ? xD

ImminENT Danger by Ncadieux 2018-12-06T07:01:40Z

Hey there, played on WebGL version, the game is pretty fun, I survived for a minute and a few seconds. Actually died a bunch of times because the inputs get inverted at some point, no idea why.

SacrificeSimulator2018 by Stames 2018-12-04T12:27:17Z

Interesting game, took me a little while to get used to it and I was completely bamboozled when the bindings switched with difficulty.

If there's no audio in your game, you should remove it from the list of ratings.

The Apostle by Norfma 2018-12-04T12:39:17Z

@dwarfaparte This is the way it worked at first actually, but it was a little disorienting changing the graphics/view at the same time you get teleported, so I thought it'd be better to first change the view and then let the player teleport, although I suppose that without actual information about that, some people would get confused interacting with the door, seeing it open and then nothing. Thanks for the feedback!

The Apostle by Norfma 2018-12-05T01:23:06Z

@sockyman Yes, I had everything to make more levels in place, but ended up running out of time because life happened. I'll probably enhance it a little just for fun later on to see where I can take it though :)

The Apostle by Norfma 2018-12-05T13:31:45Z

@pancakefriday Thanks for the feedback! Giving the UX designer's soul removes the UI from the screen (the HP and the waters collected). I had intended on making more than one level, and everything was ready for that but ended up running out of time.

The Apostle by Norfma 2018-12-05T16:52:26Z

@drauce I had made another option that switched the colors making lava look like water and vice versa at some point, but then it didn't make too much sense as a gift to god, and was being canceled by the "Give colors" one so I dropped the idea :p

The Apostle by Norfma 2018-12-06T14:27:57Z

@xorboo Thanks for the feedback, I had intended on making more than one level but ran out of time. For the animation, there's no excuse, I'm just not very good at 3D modelling and animations yet :D

Sacrifice Me by glgames 2018-12-04T12:13:33Z

Hey there, it's a nice project, the movements are fluid but I have to say I had to go at the 2nd level like 5 times in a row to actually understand what you wanted me to do with it. The trigger for the piece of wall to fall seems a bit broken, I had to jump over an invisible collider to get it to fall and then suicide on top of it else they wouldn't stack and I couldn't jump high enough. And lastly, every game is instantly much better when you add audio to it, even if it's free audio you get from a website.

Colossus by PlagueOfMinds 2018-12-04T12:05:08Z

It's a fine project for a first entry, good job!

I just feel like the game should make it clearer as to when you hit the colossus in the eye or not (I noticed the particles changing colors but feel like it's not enough). Either a growl of the colossus or a different sword swing sound (like maybe a fleshy one instead of metallic clang) might do the trick.

Running through the underworld! by sadzanenyama 2018-12-06T12:43:02Z

Hey there, just played the game, it's pretty good but I feel like the shortcuts to switch weapons don't make any sense. Either you put 1 and 2 as the weapon slots or use Q to switch weapons and it goes both ways, having a mix of the two is really disturbing.

LD44 — Your life is currency

Evention by spaarkimus 2019-04-30T16:28:52Z

Pretty impressive indeed. It's rare to see multiplayer games on jams and this one doesn't seem to have many issues. I have the slight impression that a player I came across saw the mobs spawn before I did because as we were resting on green orbs to regenerate life, we flew off a split second before the wave spawned back.

SpaceQuest by Simone 2019-04-30T16:46:40Z

Pretty good game overall.

I think that repair and max life are a little redundant as repairing one lost life or earning a new one is basically the same, meaning you could only have a single +1 Life button and simply not display lost lives.

The shooting and the enemies were pretty alright, as was the balancing of the stats with the level ups. The boss on the second level kept destroying me from out of the screen though.

Precarious by Norfma 2019-04-30T06:38:50Z

@dkmk100 Hahaha, thanks for the feedback! The sperm donation without testicles is a detail that completely slipped my mind. xD

Precarious by Norfma 2019-04-30T16:30:09Z

@dannn What OS/version of the game were you using ?

I haven't had any crashes while playing it on windows but didn't have the chance to try the builds on Linux or MacOs

Precarious by Norfma 2019-05-03T22:14:25Z

@saering Thank you for such a complete feedback.

Sure there's a lot that can be improved on game jam projects in general. I especially agree on the lack of feedback which is why I added some particles effects to the gauges of the player in last minute.

I would have loved to have multiple sprites for the player being sick, or growing hair but there's only so much you can do in a week-end.

On a final note, everyone knows that pee is stored in the balls and you don't need those to produce semen. So I really don't see your point. Cheers :)

sacrificesWay by naturalbornpixel 2019-04-30T16:16:36Z

Well, it's most definitely a good start. Shame you didn't have more time to complete it. Points for the effort though.
