LD49 — Unstable

Chickie Catchers by DDRKirbyISQ 2021-10-14T10:28:35Z

The presentation is incredible as usual! The cats are adorable and I need to try it again with a second player (who's very much a cat fan).

Unstable Stable by Flaterectomy 2021-10-14T11:19:13Z

UnstableStable.png Wow, it was very awkward to get all the sheep out (and what's with the sheep sounds!), but the overall mood is fun so I persevered. I appreciated the end game art, and I liked the wheels on the horse (presumably to save animating it!)

Criticality by 3mpty 2021-10-05T11:33:19Z

Played this for a while and could've kept going! Nice way to handle unlocking, and the physics seems pretty robust. Obviously a bit esoteric and hard to debug the reactors, but it's fun to try and figure out. I seemed to be blocked from building on the edge, couldn't tell if it was intentional or not. Would be handy to buy more land or something :), but I understand why it's more about optimisation than building bigger and bigger (especially considering sim cost).

Wobbly Waiter by CG_Fred 2021-10-19T15:49:00Z

Loved the foley sounds, scoped well for the jam, and the physics work very well considering the short time frame. Definitely challenging - would like to see if it's possible to complete without dropping a bottle!

Launch Yourself! by Nehvis 2021-10-05T12:09:15Z

Nice idea with the rocket jumping, and the 'getting over it' gameplay of frustrating/trolling the player is a nice gag. I'd like to see the end but I feel like it's hard to justify persisting with this when I'm supposed to be rating more games :) Would be easier if it went fullscreen - I found it difficult to launch myself when the character was at the bottom or edges of the window. Music was chosen well, though wasn't made in the jam so it makes sense there's no rating for it.

Launch Yourself! by Nehvis 2021-10-07T12:41:47Z

@nehvis I played it again and yeah, alt+enter does indeed work - I swear I tried that but I guess I didn't try hard enough >_<

CandleLight by PaulLyaudet 2021-10-14T15:52:40Z

Just wow! The art is incredible, the concept is smart and the atmosphere is top notch. There were a few jumps that were hard to judge due to the camera position, and a few spots that were too dark, but otherwise the puzzles were clean and the game was smooth start to finish. I appreciated how well the checkpoints were placed and how fast the game moved forward. The procedural animation for the candle and the candle's feet were great, as well as all the fire VFX and volumetric lighting! Obviously the game is very short but the quality is at a professional level no doubt.

Orbital Rescue by amkingTRP 2021-10-14T15:27:38Z

Cute little game! I didn't quite twig that the smoke was the exit, so missed a few survivors and had no way of going back so played through it a second time to rescue everyone. Other than that it was easy to pick up and with some work has potential to get really challenging and exciting. Good job on the art and for having an intro/outro and tutorial!

UnStable Reactor by honzapat 2021-10-14T14:46:32Z

Crashed when I went to fix the radiation leaking pipe, other than that it was kindof fun to run around fixing things. Once I knew my way around it seemed pretty easy to stay on top of things - a longer game could work by switching up the repair mechanics over time and generally adding surprises (assuming you'd want it keep it a light comedy and not create a realistic sim!). Presentation and audio is good for a jam game.

[data::loss] by ewpratten 2021-10-05T10:45:29Z

I liked the glitch style and art - the gameplay was fun if too reliant on trial-and-error, but it's otherwise consistent and I managed to complete it. Appreciated the humour, and props for using Raylib! Would recommend adding a keyboard key for reset rather than just mouse click.

AIROBICS by mausimus 2021-10-05T15:43:30Z

I love how it looks like an accurate simulation - the gameplay seems simple but it works really well, and definitely keeps you on your toes! Very slick overall  It would be nice to have the score information highlighted when you win, or perhaps some story elements, but other than that it's pretty perfect at what it's trying to be.

SNOOZLE! by wedgiebee 2021-10-14T15:12:47Z

Very trippy and stylish game with nice light puzzling - it definitely gets more interesting when the puzzles come in. Personally I found the colour change somewhat frustrating, and would rather have buttons to switch (a key for each colour rather than a single click button) since there were no time restraints anyway. I get why you might not want to do that, since fighting to get into the right mode at the right time is most of the challenge anyway.

The clay animations and pointing animations are very well polished, and the music suits the game well.

Kattonauten by Elastic 2021-10-05T11:57:12Z

Very fun entry, I loved the crunchy aesthetic of the chargeup. Hard but fair platforming. Managed to reach the end a couple of times, first with 49 deaths then 20. Easy to pick up and challenging to master which is perfect for a LD game.

Llamageddon by Dunk 2021-10-04T14:56:59Z

There were some issues with mid-game joining that should be resolved now (if you tried already, do a shift+F5 full refresh). I've tested the Brave browser on Windows and that also works (though without audio).

Llamageddon by Dunk 2021-10-05T13:36:20Z

@pk-c I didn't have time to add a solo mode unfortunately, but you can open two windows to test it out. The interface is a click and drag from node to node which sets an arrow. The colour of your interface in the top left determines which Llama army colour you are.

EDIT: You may also have joined a match mid-game, which means you won't have an army until the next round, so no UI in the top left.

Llamageddon by Dunk 2021-10-06T15:52:00Z

@deav I'm glad you tried it, but yes this game really needs 3 or more players to be fun. The unstable theme comes in the fact that Llamas can fall off the wobbling platforms, which can even break off completely if enough weight is in one place.

Llamageddon by Dunk 2021-10-11T13:45:00Z

@lazyseal Thanks for playing! At the moment it's possible to get a temporary stalemate situation if two players pile into a single edge - the Llamageddon mode is supposed to ensure the game will always end, but the game could do with some extra features to spice things up, such as Llama magic spells to create explosions or fly Llamas around. After the LD voting ends I hope to upload a new version with updates like this.
