A little confused about what cases death. Graphics are nice though :D How would you rate experience working with rust for game development? And is it suitable for game development during jams, where fast iteration on ideas is needed?

The game make's me angry too fast, but your it's so cool, in my opinion, because she causes me the most sincere emotions and wish to pass this zero lvl
Really awesome! :) My only issues is that it is hard for me to tell what is a platform and what will kill me. Maybe telegraph that with a different color for killable platforms? Thanks for the experience!
A bit hard to tell which platforms are meant to kill you especially when everything is moving so fast. Other than that the game is extremely polished and well-put-together!

Fun and Frustrating. I'm personally not a huge fan of autorunners but i like the theme and ascetic a lot.
Very fun game with great graphics and great sfx!
It could use a better way to tell you which platforms will kill you and which platforms won't.
Overall a very good game!
looks great but i had some trouple figuring out which platforms were legal and which weren't
Art is awesome. getting rick roll 5 secs after boot was not what I expected... Game plays pretty well, movement is pretty nice. As others have mentioned the difficulty is up there and it's definitely frustrating. I made it through the first lvl and to about half way on the second and that was enough for me. One thing that would be real nice is an immediate reset. Often I knew I'd fucked up and just wanted to start again but had to wait to collide then use the mouse to click restart. A restart shortcut would be really nice and make the gameplay less stilted in an environment where many cycles is inevitable. Overall this is a great game, the art and music is awesome, and there's a good dose of humor and sass to the game. Awesome job!!

Such disturbing music. Sets the atmosphere very well. For me, the passage of this game is very difficult. I'm so slowpoke for it=) Good job=)

I liked the glitch style and art - the gameplay was fun if too reliant on trial-and-error, but it's otherwise consistent and I managed to complete it. Appreciated the humour, and props for using Raylib! Would recommend adding a keyboard key for reset rather than just mouse click.
I found it amusing that on the downloads page you're essentially telling people "trust me, there's nothing unsafe about running a file named `data-loss.exe` that you downloaded from the internet."
Anyways, neither the Linux build nor the Windows build (using Wine) seems to be working for me, unfortunately.
@3lstmsinatrenchcoat In the spirit of the game, "don't worry about it. Its totally fine ;)"
Anyways, this game does **not** work with Wine, but feel free to send me an email to mail@va3zza.com and I can help you get it up and running on linux.
@kukurammus Hello, team lead, and the most experienced Rust developer on the team here.
I personally love rust in game development. Mainly because of a mix of the heavily standardized library ecosystem, and how incredibly easy it is to cross-compile to other platforms. I develop on linux, and to create the windows builds, I just have to run a single command:
``` cross build --release --target x86_64-pc-windows-gnu ```
No extra work to install and manage another system's toolchain, and (almost) no cross-platform issues.
I think the only part of the distribution side of developing in rust that could be improved is tools for code signing. I would love to be able to generate signed windows builds for everyone (maybe in LD50?)
The builds are also *fast*. It is pretty hard to create something in rust that will have unplayably slow framerate. Although this game does have some framerate issues, but that's due to a decision of mine to let some newer programmers do some less-than-ideal computations for the sake of learning, at the cost of speed.
In terms of weather Rust is suitable for the fast-paced environment of a game jam, I will say yes. As long as you have a CI pipeline (GitHub Actions for us) and a team who can use git well, everything goes very smoothly. The strict compiler has the benefit of ensuring that whenever one of us picks up someone else's work, the code will function exactly how we expect, and the compiler/clippy will report anything that needs critical work.
Another major point that I thought of last night when we first read your comment is that, this is now the second game jam game I have worked on where most of the team went in with minimal or no rust experience, and managed to simultaneously pick up a new language, and produce a high quality game.
I don't think I have ever worked on another project in another environment that can match how easy it was to pick up rust (my first big rust experience was in LD48 too). The common comments that have come from my teammates across LD48 and LD49 is "the initial learning curve is very hard, but once you pass it, everything goes smoothly".
I agree with this. I have a habit of describing Rust's learning curve to people as "a brick wall". This is mainly because of the completely different though process the borrow checker forces on you as a programmer.
Anyways, to sum that all up, I'll be using Rust again in LD50.
@ewpratten thanks for the insights. I heard that rust is being used for games sometimes, but never heard opinion from anyone, who actually used. That was interesting stuff to read :ok_hand:
It was really nice game. It was fun playing this game. What I don’t like was that all the obstacles are of same color. Overall you guys did a great job👏 .
Definitely a very interesting game concept, keep it up guys!
me gusto mucho el juego aun que me fruste xd
Great game, really liked the aesthetic, it takes what would be an already cool reflex based autorun game and enhances is it with unique challenges in the levels. Only thing is I wasn't exactly sure what I could and could not jump on all of the time. And I got called out for cheating lol.
Honestly, this game is pretty frustrating. But I can´t stop playing it.
Why do I feel like I just got hacked?
Buen juego. Su estilo de gráficos retro son atractivos. Un poco difĂcil reconocer sobre que plataformas correr y sobre cuales no, pero eso aunque frustrante, terminĂł siendo todo un reto... asĂ que saltĂ© sobre todas como pude y terminĂ© con una notificaciĂłn de No hacer trampa XD XD.
Why would you make this game? Why would you do this to another person? Not everyone chose violence for this game jam. There was a game about a kobold making inventions out of junk to buy a nice rock. There was a physics game about mixing colored beads to make new colors. I saved some pirates from a dragon and some parrots in one game. This game took all my ideas of space and time and called them cringe. I don't know what pit of hell you came from, but I hope you're happy. 10/10.
Great game! It was really fun, although rather challenging. The concept felt a lot like one of those mouse and maze/electric shock experiments, having to keep dying to eventually learn when I had to jump and dash to complete the level. I would complain about how the "death" platforms looked really similar to the normal platforms and how in the last level I for some reason die when I jump too early on the first platform with no context, but then again I'm assuming that was just part of that learn the more you die experience - you didn't want the player to easily see things ahead of time, right? It was annoying at first, but I like it - it was an innovative and bold choice of gameplay and created an interesting, fun rage game. The graphics and sound effects are also really good, I like the player sprite - its animation felt very smooth and polished. Well done!
In my opinion, this game is very stupid and uninteresting. I tried to play it and got even angrier. What I hate most in life is when something goes wrong, and I can't control it. Everything I hate was included in this game, and now I hate this game. Even the name "data loss" is very annoying because I have had a bad experience. I had a case when all important files were deleted from my computer, and I almost went crazy trying to restore them. I was lucky that I found a company https://www.salvagedata.com/ that helped me with this. It was actually very terrible. I hate this game.
@dobarduff We would highly appreciate your opinion if it were closer to the game's publication date rather than the next game jam date. We are aware that life has situations that we can't control, but we couldn't care less of the presence of said factor in the game. In regards to the name, we are sorry you lost your files in a computer, but again, little do we care about you or your files. Maybe if you spent more time giving constructive criticism rather than a twitter-style complaining paragraph you would have time left to learn about proper file management and cloud storage. Thanks for playing our game!
