LD46 — Keep it alive

Keep It Undead by pcmaster 2020-04-25T23:25:41Z

nice game with a great concept and art. The one biggest thing holding this game back is how often it comes down to waiting for an uninfected person (or pig) to get close enough to infect. its mostly an issue in levels like 2 and 3 but it still has that issue a bit in levels 4 and 5. one way to alleviate this issue is allow the player to control an uninfected person. there would probably need to be limits on it like only one at a time and maybe only humans or only pigs could be controlled if they were uninfected.

like what every else said both about the music, atmosphere and game as a whole being great and that the ice is relatively useless. the idea of limiting the amount of water the stones give may work another idea would be to increase either the speed water is consumed or the distance the stones are from the tree and slow down the stones movement.if you did this the player would be forced to go get the stone and guide it back part of the way but then rush ahead of it to grab ice to replenish the water supply and return for the stone.

This is interesting definitely fairly unique in this game jam but it also reminds of undertale though that may be because you are controlling a heart. Its interesting that as it becomes more difficult the warnings being showing up so early become where the difficulty lies. initially it makes it very easy to get out of they way in time but later on you can forget that something is still going to show up there while dodging other viruses

Tyson Lee: KEEP IT ALIVE EDITION by CPTN-B 2020-04-22T17:46:04Z

I love the concept of this game and would love to see a full fledged logic gate puzzle game in the future. Most of what I feel needs improvement is minor has already been said like drag and drop logic gates and feedback when you solve the puzzle. A few suggestions that I didn't see would be a way to delete logic gates and the connections between them or at least make it clearer how to do that and a way to see the output of a logic gate without creating a connection this could be done by making the pins on the logic gates green rather than the ends of the connections. other than that with a more thorough tutorial for those who don't have any prior experience with logic gates, some music, sound effects, and more levels this could an amazing puzzle game.

Blood and Snow by Mika la Grand 2020-04-21T16:55:13Z

nice game the wind and footstep sound effects were great and I love that you can actually shoot your wife.any criticisms would be it's unclear what the point of wood and meat is. presumably you die if you run out of either but they deplete slowly enough that it isn't very much of a concern. I also don't see how to drop them off in the house unless that is automatic. in the case that it is automatic there is no indication of anything happening.

Symbiosis by -banzi 2020-04-21T16:30:46Z

The art and the animations were great. the game play was fun too though I couldn't get very far due to the html version sometimes soft locking when i tried to feed on enemies. One suggestion would be to speed up movement at least out side of combat it feels really slow so it can be annoying to travel any significant distance

Seven Nights in Siberia by Gus Goucher 2020-04-22T14:25:34Z

@fynzyme I'm glad you enjoyed it. It is a difficult game but depending on which direction you go at the start of the level can make it much easier or harder. for example in level 2 one way you could go would bring you to an enemy and a few sticks but you could go a different way and find 2 enemies and enough logs to get you through the night. there is also an area you can find whit a good amount of sticks and no enemies at all. Personally I think we probably should have added checkpoints.

@mika-la-grand I don't know why the menu wouldn't work for you so i cant help there but for the downloaded version you could try going to display settings and under scale and layout make sure the scaling is set to 100%. I don't know if its true for you too but my computer defaults to 150%. Thanks for the suggestion of slowing down the time it take the fire to go out. we may be able to slow it down a bit but I Don't think it could go too much slower. currently it takes about half a night for the fire to go if you don't stand next to it which is much faster to discourage waiting by the fire. Alleviating difficulty is still a good idea which could be done with checkpoints or @ryan-harriman 's suggestion of a dash that could potentially do that while also adding in more strategy with resource management. Thanks for the feedback and I'm see you enjoyed the game.

@kaan-alpar It sounds like you may have opened the message by the fire thinking the prompt was to pick something up. There is a message on every level but the first just says how to close messages. Unless you brought wood back to the fire and dropped it near the message but not into the fire, there shouldn't be anything to pick up close enough to read the message. If you did put wood down near the message that could be an issue. Otherwise I guess it just wasn't clear the button prompt was the read the message rather than pick something up. Maybe somehow making the button prompts to read and pick up different would make it more clear?

Fighting Footwork by Wolfier 2020-04-21T22:01:19Z

I was also confused but I it wasn't so much the fencing terms that confused me. I just did understand how to play. It wasn't clear how to win and there wasn't any feedback from the game if what I was doing was working which made it impossible to figure out how to play. If the game had a tutorial that would probably help a lot.

Keep IT Alive by Gronk 2020-04-26T22:56:57Z

great art I love the attack animation. the length of the attack is also great for the combat.though one suggestion would be to add more anticipation to the enemy attacks to make it easier to tell if you have enough time to hit them or you need to cancel the attack. Also I don't know if you would want to change this but after I got the brain I went to pick up the potions and batteries in the boss room I hadn't checked yet just in case I would need them and was able to heal the monster even after it was revived.

The last tree by DeadBoyGames 2020-04-21T17:07:01Z

This is a really fun game the art and audio were great but I especially loved the animation. my one question would be what does the bar at the bottom actually mean? it seems to be independent of the size of the tree or how close it is to dying though the idea of watering as much as you can to keep it full still works even not knowing what it does.

The last tree by DeadBoyGames 2020-04-21T20:15:58Z

Ok that makes sense. thanks for letting me know @deadboygames. I don't think I ever noticed the tree shrinking other than when an enemy got too close. assuming I didn't just miss something obvious I would suggest possibly indicating when the tree is shrinking in some way though I couldn't come up with any good ideas. All i could think of was maybe changing the color of the bar when you have so little water that the tree starts shrinking. It looks like it only starts shrinking when the bar is at the lowest it can go so maybe make it more red. Then when you start watering it again it could jump to the orange you used which would give more of a distinction between when the tree is shrinking and when it isn't.

The last tree by DeadBoyGames 2020-04-26T22:07:15Z

@deadboygames I don't know about @mulberg but personally I don't think adding a water drop next to the bar would help. To me it was clear that the bar was related to water due to it filling as you water the tree and depleting if you don't. It was also clear that filling the bar was good because watering the tree was good and the colors of the bar changing from oranges to greens and blues. What wasn't clear is how the bar related to the tree. until you responded to my first comment I didn't even realize the tree shrank other than when it was hit by an enemy. This is probably because of how slowly the tree grows or shrinks most of the time and that whenever the player lets the bar drop too low it is probably while they are fighting enemies and there would be a lot more movement making that shrinking even harder to notice. There are a few other things that are still unclear about the bar to me. First how full is the bar when the tree starts shrinking? Second is the speed the tree grows at constant or does it increase gradually as the bar is filled? I'm guessing it does just based mostly off the bar gradually changing color but I cant tell for sure. I don't think the speed the tree grows at is a problem because the bar would ideally be able to convey that information. Unfortunately I can't come up with suggestion of how to accomplish that.

This game looks and sounds amazing but I have no idea what I am supposed to be doing other than walk around.
