LD45 — Start with nothing

Magic Shepherd by Kevin Prehn 2019-10-13T21:58:05Z

I thought this was a brilliant idea from the moment i saw it. I'ts unfortunate that I, someone that has no idea of how funcional programming works, wanted to give you a full insight of my experience and how it was and if i actually learned something and I couldn't figure out even with with the instructions, how i was supposed to do to achieve what i was asked. the thing i got as far as doing was Do spell and it was invalid, so i don't know what i actually did wrong there. And having to restart from scratch with no hints, made me feel a bit frustrated. But maybe a little show of how you can do it in the first place, a little showcase tutorial would help. As for idea A, as for the graphics I can see why each spell has that icon to them. I really hope you can make this work out cause I see so much potential in your idea.

Lost Somewhere by burakkurkcu 2019-10-08T01:34:23Z

I don't know if the games loading screen takes ususlly that long or if it was just with me, but i think that maybe a meter showing that the game is actually loading would be a nice thing to put in, since one could think that the page is broken or that it won't work overall. the art style is really nice, i really liked it. the lack of sound effects was a little thing that could make the game experience overall better, BGM or a shutter sound for the camera. there are some little gnomes (lol) that are z glitching into one another. also i dont know if you guys meant to have that blank space and the crowd moving the way it did, but maybe working with a more organic shape for the crowd would take out the illusion that it's actually missing people. but great job! keep up the good work!

Snake Farmer by sorecactus 2019-10-08T02:04:58Z

Hey, i tried downloading your game and the .exe doesnt seem to open, but i don't know if its a problem with my computer of your files, I'll ask my team to check it out tomorrow on their computers but I'm just letting you know that this happened. the general idea of the game is really nice and i'd like to play it so i hope i can do it soon and give you a proper rating. maybe a web version on itch.io would solve this?

Snake Farmer by sorecactus 2019-10-09T07:19:50Z

@sorecactus Hey man i got to play the game, on the online version, im really happy you could fix everything so it was playable. I'm not talking about the graphics here, since you got the basics of the gameplay in, and im assuming those are place holders. BTW the neon orange snake wiggling its tail made me smile.

heres my actual feedback: the interaction with the market and the snake club was a bit janky, when the character's hitbox colided with them and the menu showed up, sometimes i'd be pushed back and it made really hard to keep the menu up for interactions. You also put in the game description that the controls were just wasd and spacebar, but on the menus, you actually use the mouse to interact so maybe putting that on the game controls would be nice, since it could make the player a bit confused as how to buy props and enter the competiiton. I noticed that the fee to enter the competition was 100 but that didnt get deducted and the prize collecting resulted into nothing, which was a little disapointing. The different colors to show different types of snakes was really nice. I don't know if you had just a set of 5 snakes names or if that happened to me when i started to get snakes with the same name by coincidence. The text on the top showing the ammount of seeds you have has a little flaw, cause everytime i planted all my seeds it would say id have still one more in my inventory, it would just show the real 0 if i changed crops and went back. The text on the bottom showing actions not disappearing was a little annoying, maybe showing it for some seconds would be better, just keeping the warning for snakes on the crops visible until they were colected would be a better approach to that. The growing clycles and pricing of the props were really well balanced, that is a feature i'd advise you to keep and maybe if you want add more in the future. A thing i dint get at first was the "training" of the snake too, but i think you meant it's temper, cause at this time we have no ways of training the snakes for competition.

I loved it, I see a lot of potential, I think it would make a nice mobile game also, since its casual, I can see myself playing it again once everything gets more polished (if you intend on doing that). I'm sorry if this got too extensive, I'm not bashing the game by any means. You did an awesome job

P.S.: I also got stuck outside the gaming area @kessutinnu

Snake Farmer by sorecactus 2019-10-09T21:17:08Z

@sorecactus no problem man I really liked the game, the concept and the idea. Once you have everything in place of if you need a beta player feel free to hmu. I'll keep up looking up for the update

Necromanic by krammetje 2019-10-13T21:15:58Z

Really nice graphics and concept for the game, I had some problems viewing when my characters were dying and their health bar cause they were all cramped together and overlaping. I think the idea of a crowd fight actually would be like that but as a player, to actually know who I'm fighting against with each character and how much damage I give and take would be nice. no need to add hit values on screen since the HP bars show this already, but a different color to zombies and living things would be a nice touch. I couldn't go past a certain point of the game, but blame myself for having no strategies, but also the feeling of having no information hit me a lot. I had no idea of what I was doing, and just trying to send different minions over and over to conquer villages. I see that the sprites used for the dead and alive characters are almost the same and was that overlaping thing that got me, I actually never saw a full bodied zombie peasant cause there was a villager exactly where he was.

with some polishing I could see myself playing this again.

Also the necromancer magic used to send units being limited was a nice thing to not let the player get OP, kudos for that too! Nice work

No-Thing Island by SleepyStudios 2019-10-13T22:26:31Z

Really nice puzzle game. I got to admit i got stuck, but I loved the game. Great mood, sfx, graphics and damns you rat i spent 5 minutes trying to catch you

Vault 7 by Luk3 2019-10-08T01:37:50Z

Hey, thank you so much, it was our first time working with sound our original design, so we appreciate te a lot. We are sure going to revisit the game and make it a fuller experience

Vault 7 by Luk3 2019-10-08T02:51:56Z

Thank you so much! I'm glad you liked it

Vault 7 by Luk3 2019-10-08T03:25:49Z

Our inicial thought was having multiple rooms in a crack the code style, but time was short for the other rooms. The game is called Vault 7 solemly because our main character only dinstinction (besides being bald) its the 7 written on his back. The Bald Vault didn't sound as nice lol. But since the game theme is start with nothing, the origin of the 7 is totally up to the players. We're definetelly checking the character movement for version two! Thank you so much for the feedback!

Vault 7 by Luk3 2019-10-09T05:10:07Z

@kekkodude Yeah, we had a little problem with the walking cycle, all the SFX were produced by us, and making a loop was actually a difficult thing we never messed with that before, for version two we are going to work a little more on the walking sfx and the sliding thing are going to be improved. the game is far from polished. but thank you so much for the feedback we apreciate it a lot. the fact the button doesnt have an animation also could have made an inpact for you not understanding it was a button , so we probably will improve that.

Vault 7 by Luk3 2019-10-09T05:34:54Z

@ketura The lights are indicators of the right positioning of each lever. It envolves a logic to understand how the lights work to crate a strategy to give you the answer. But like every "crack-the-code" puzzle, you can get it right out of pure luck and never actually check the lights, since the vault in the initial room will open once you send the correct answer. Each color has a purpose to create a strategy to crack the code. We didn't put the controls on purpose for the theme start with nothing, you can actually use spacebar or e to interact as most games are by default. also you can walk with wasd or arrow keys. As for the button, you're completely right we are going to change the button sprite and make an animation for it.

And yeah, the exit of the game is basically alt+F4, an exit option after credits was going to be added, together with the game menu, that would only show up once you've cleared the game for the first time. Unfortunately we didn't have time to implement it, but now you can play an online version, which will take out the alt+f4 fot exit or the task manager.

The switch room is just the tutorial and showcase the idea.

Thank you so much for your feedback, we appreciate it, thanks for the constructive critics

Vault 7 by Luk3 2019-10-09T05:46:52Z

@sirred Oh yeah, thats a thing we didn't think that would be an issue. Did door stays out of the frame? We put two different sounds for the button, one when it doesn't work and the other one that when it accepts an input, at that moment the door opens, we thought that would indicate it had a change, but I think if you don't interact with the button before it might go unnoticed. May you tell me if it was the room size?

Vault 7 by Luk3 2019-10-09T06:28:40Z

@mechwarrior99 We also thought the game got really short, out idea was for actually having 4 puzzle rooms, but time was running out and we didn't want just to copy paste the same puzzle over 4 times cause it would be boring. We preoritized the concepts and basic mechanics over the polishing, but we will release a version two, the black background will disappear if i remember coreectly and the graphics will be improved, thank you for the specific feedback on that.

Do you think the gray scale of the room made it difficult to see the walls, or it was really just the contrast between floor and walls (like making walls darker, for example, would be enough)?

As I mentioned in another comment we chose to not show a game menu/opening sequence/controls to keep up with the theme, start with nothing, you just know you're playing a game, and youre thrown in it with no info. We chose intuitive controls (common ones) to make the players figure them out - wasd and arrow keys for movement and spacebar and e to interact. Just really the lack of the exit of the game was an actual flaw in the programming we ran out of time and submitted it as it was. I'm gonna add this to the game description as it was mentioned more than once.

Thank you so much for the feedback, specially the constrictive critics <3

Vault 7 by Luk3 2019-10-09T06:32:24Z

@nachtwitch I'm glad you liked it, this is actually what we called the tutorial room during the dev, so if you want to see if youre gonna ragequit in the future, keep an eye out for version two of Vault 7

Vault 7 by Luk3 2019-10-09T06:35:05Z

@rosebucket Really? Oh noes! my tip is to pay attention to the lights on the main room. But i feel you, even though i participated on the game dev I still took some time to figure out the answer when I played it the first time

Vault 7 by Luk3 2019-10-09T07:50:52Z

@peachtreeoath My girlfriend did the exact same thing, thinking the visors were interactable, she took a little while to see the gap for the door on the north wall, I see this as a part of the experience since you know nothing about where you are. We thought about the possibility of some type of dialog box, but making you guys figure things out yourselves and explore everything makes sense when in a unknown enviroment.also that gave us a little more time to work on other aspects of the game, as our programmers had to work with a single computer, changing shifts untill all sounds and graphics were made. there are some combinations that give out the same color pattern imput and it was designed to be that way, each color has a different meaning, but even though there are 4 screens and 4 levers, they are not assigned to show the imput in order for each lever, they show information about the combination as a whole (i hope i could explain that well, cause explaining this mechanic to my team also took a little while)

and thank you so much for your feedback and sharing your gameplay with us, i hope i answered some questions about the light system. if you want to test it further, i suggest trying the alternatives of imput for each lever for the analizys.

I'm also really happy for the route we ended up chosing for our entry, its a little different than the other games i rated and played, eventhough there are some really awesome masterpieces here, our team is proud of what weve done, so thank you for that little last note.

Vault 7 by Luk3 2019-10-09T07:55:08Z

@sirred We're definetely checking this out for the v2 od the game, I thought the switch room was a little too big and there was a missing sound for the door opening that i didnt notice before. We're going to fix that in the future, thank you for the feedback again, we want the v2 to be a really nice experience, and this little details make all the difference.

Vault 7 by Luk3 2019-10-09T21:10:44Z

@black-flag thank you so much, we had a blast coming up with the sfx for the game. The eery atmosphere was what we were going for since the beginning, so I'm glad it worked out!! Thanks for the feedback

Vault 7 by Luk3 2019-10-09T21:11:43Z

@fallingflatstudios we are planing to add that on the version two. Thank you so much for your feedback!!

Vault 7 by Luk3 2019-10-13T20:18:31Z

@burakkurkcu Thank you so much for your feedback!! We had a little get together last friday and we touched the subject of lighting in the game, and the leaking lighting is ssuuuuuuuch a great idea. Like @ryuu said, this room was supposed to be the tutorial one, and we are intending to improve it as well so every single bit of feedback and insight is really valuable for us. We want the vault 7 project to grow, since we had such great time developing it. I've personally nevr played any fallout games, but It's amazing you got that post-apocalyptic vibe from it, cause that's what we we're going for. A run-down, maybe forgotten, creepy place. We will for sure improve the tutorial level and itroduce new mechanics and puzzles for another version. Again, thank you so much <3

Vault 7 by Luk3 2019-10-15T23:53:30Z

@gamefive I'm so so glad that you figured out the lights pattern. Since we had just 16 combinations in total, we couldn't go that much further with the configuration, but you got it right on the spot. That makes me so so so happy. Thank you so much for the feedback!!

@xotsu I'm really glad you liked our short game! Thank you so much!

Enter the Abyss by GuitarBro 2019-10-16T00:40:01Z

Yeah, Really nice game you got there. I got a bit confused at first about how to use the spells and stuff, but, I can see a really nice concept you have there. after a little while the monsters growling got a bit annoying, but that aside i have no more things to say but great job!

Untitled Zombie Game by Stevie Bushman 2019-10-13T23:28:05Z

omg i loved it, Equipped my shirt on my head. Thi thing i just don't liek it much is that theres no option to flee. I don't wanna fight a zombie with a empty shotgun thanks. It's a really simple idea and i really liked it, the puns were on point, i chuckled a lot. By the time I was dead i realized i was like "Oh a food, drop that, no need for eaten food, I can equip jeans while dead. I'm fashionable zombie. put shirt on head, right shoe on left foot. Murphy aproves" I'll give you guys 10000000 points on sound effects cause yes i make the best ones bloop

THE DUKE OF ABINSWAY by Daniel Alhadeff 2019-10-16T01:47:05Z

I thought it was going just to be a sit back and watch thing for a while, and boy oh boy, I got a good surprise coming. The graphics were so good, the storytelling was really nice, the brainstorming of the narrator and everything happening in the Bg were super harmonic!! I'd change the font, and that's about the ,most problem I had. Since I am a little dyslexic pixelated fonts are a little hard for me, but this one was pixelated and cursive at the same time and I spent a solid minute trying to figure out why "I" wasn't attacking. I thought it was a bug but the it hit me that it was a "J". I felt bad for the first knight cause he didn't even attack me, he just stood there while i hit him with my sword. I went into an existential crisis. Was I the bad guy all along? the villain? What exactly did that one specific guy did to me to deserve his death?

The concept really got me, I'll revisit this when/if you make a post jam version <3 great job on the compo

Deal with the Devil by tgb20 2019-10-13T20:33:01Z

Your game seems to have a nice catch to it, I'm no good with emulators, how they work and by so I haven't played it, but from the itch.io page, the cards mechanics seem really nice. I wanted to ask you how you managed to put in the jam a game you had to work through 6 days. did you add more things after the jam ended or did you start earlier? Or that was a typo? if so, fix it in the description or people might think you didn't meet the parameters of the jam at all. I'll be back with a gameplay review as soon as i get an emulator running

Tart with nothing by flynn 2019-10-16T01:26:48Z

Omg this was so cute, even the level border was a really nice touch. the sfx were on point, you did everything nicely and well. I didn't get some references, but I'm sure people that actually know a bit of programming have the knowledge.tm lolol. Sincerely, I want merch of this game and the tart with quotes like that.

Lo-Fi Space by Croosle 2019-10-14T02:06:55Z

I didn't understand the game at all, i just moved around i couldn't even get to shoot. the lack of instructions made me feel bad, cause i really liked the graphics

(void) by juju 2019-10-13T22:44:08Z

The game at first was really confusing cause i didn't seem to go anywhere no matter which arrow key i pushed, but i managed to go out into the fiend eventually, but having no attacks from enemies, a health bar, an indicator or nothing like that made it feel like it had a purpose, even why attacking the void things if they do nothing to you, so i spent some time just walking around and they didnt mind me and i didnt mind them at all we lived in harmony and i had a sword. also i was teleported quite a bit in the up part of the map

the shrine the monk and the minotaur by rosebucket 2019-10-16T00:54:10Z

Whoa you have a good game indeed. The monk laughing caught me off guard for sure. The robotic voice was a plus. I like the sfx a lot. I never actually found out how to defeat the boss, but seeing that my dead body was there made me think there ws more and i need to comeback to it to see if i can find out later how to actually manage to defeat the boss. The sky being kinda buggy and taking a lot to get to where you died, were throwing me off a bit, and also having to repeatedly push the arrow keys to walk after jumping or attacking made things even more difficult. Nonetheless, this is a very good entry, good job!!

Athenaeum by Nikos 2019-10-16T00:32:30Z

Got almost every puzzle except the time one, I have no idea what to do there. The music is really chill, reminds me of numbers the game. I can surely see myself playing this again just to find out what the Time riddle is about. Great entry!!!

Noth INC. by Dongle 2019-10-13T22:35:59Z

Guys omg great job!! if you are going to release a Post Jam edition, please do so, the game is a lot of fun, the graphics are great, i love the sound track, the sxf, just the AI made me a little mad that she wouldn't start shooting the enemies as they appeared, so there were times that she was walking randomly and enemies were coming and she wasnt shooting. on my first runs i din't realize that you would run out of ammo, so oopsies, but once i got that figured out things went a lot better. GREAT JOB INDEED

Mind the Gap by CrispyPin 2019-10-16T01:14:11Z

Nice game you got there! I realized I suck in platform games! :D But i thought the mechanics were pretty nice, ive never seen sone like that. The placing in front of you type of thing but not being able to extend an existing bridge made things even more difficult for me personally. I tried jumping and placing the brick as i was mid-air but always would actually block my way, and no mention that it was a bad idea cause i ran out of bricks and couldn't jump back to get them to continue. but that was my experience I actually liked the concept a lot. I need to find the stars

Legends of Hobo by Cipery 2019-10-13T21:39:29Z

I'ts a shame you had to start late to the jam caus i see that you could've done soooo much more with the game than it actually is right now. I really can see potential in your work and i could see myself playing it again. Nice finding of the sprites, they are really nice and made the game look amazing. I would like to have seen more interactive things in the game since the map is kinda big. This little thing here https://prnt.sc/pisydw that I can walk over the statues but not over some flowers I think wasn't that looked into. I tried going around them, but always ended on top of them, like they were paintings on the ground and the same thing happened to the scarecrows, which i think I actually wouldn't be able to reach because of the crops around them. The hitbox for the ghouls doesn't seem that fair, cause the dash of the main character seems that you need to be kinda too close to his enemies to attack, but as i was walking along the map the things were hitting me in a range i thought it wasn't possible, which led me into thinking they weren't showing their atual range of attack. but these are some little tweaks that could improve the gameplay a lot. the overall game itself is really nice, just need a little polishing, in the future, like you said, a bigger story and more than just 3 golden coins to buy king-like furniture. Good job!!

Rough Sleeper by DrSomma 2019-10-13T23:00:15Z

nice art, nice concept, the music was really nice but it didnt loop so the reat of the playthrough was almost completely silent. i went too far to the right on the map and i think i kept on going for a while cause it took me some time to get back on screen. I didnt know if my inventory was 2 sloths or 4, but i couldnt pick up more than 2 items at once, and there as this one bottle that even with a sloth clear i couldnt get from the floor. i never actually understood how i managed to open the store to buy things, i did do it, but i dont know if it was with e or f. in the description for controls you didnt put up that you needed the mouse , so maybe add that up, just fir any confused possible players in the future. the thing to "get a job" flew out of the window when you can actually just go in a building and do the job to get money. to implement that, maybe as you go though garbage cans you can find a flyer and the go to a job interview to get the said office job. other than that, you guys deserve a real praise it was really well done and smooth i liked it a lot

Cleptomania VR by Milan Dolezal 2019-10-14T01:42:11Z

Couldn't play properly due to lack of a VR set, but this is really innovative, i loved how you took the theme, and a game about co-cop cleptomania is something i've never seen before. I hope the team keeps up the good work! And I hope I can get the real experience soon, you guys deserve it. Please try to pump up you gus' karma by playing and giving other games feedback so they can see your nice work. Wish y'all the best

Soul Search by BoltactionToaster 2019-10-16T01:05:13Z

Great Graphics, Really nice sfx. I had a problem with the plataforming, maybe cause I'm a total noob, but, It made really hard for me to stay on the little plataforms and i was repeating the same part a billion times. I really like what you did with the lighting. The mood and feel for the game were on point. I liked the music a lot but idk if it was just with me, but it didn't loop, it stopped, then started over, then stopped right after that and the rest of the time there was no soundtrack.

FROGBERT: Road to Culinary Stardom by trmrddr 2019-10-08T01:13:27Z

the game started really confusing but even with the awkward controls, its a quirky good game

Finding fun by ZMVL 2019-10-08T01:49:59Z

You got such a good concept there, i think that if you wantes, later, you could flesh it out even more and make a really impactful experience. even with just a minute of guided game, it actually got me thinking and I'd love to see how you'd develop other scenarios. the golf one, was a bit lacking, since the collecting stamps we actually did something, that took more time and it was "boring". But that looking out for a physical hobby and seeing that "it's not that great" or in the boxing "it's not worth it" i have nothing to do, was really clever

WitchKitchen by Fuzzy Duck 2019-10-13T23:40:04Z

The game seems interesting, but i cant sing up in tabletopia to play the game, their website doesnt let me, so I guess theres no way of playing your game, which is a shame cause i really wanted to
