LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Jazzy Beats by Moski 2017-12-07T23:03:40Z

I can't believe how great the art, ui, and audio are in this game. The theme is incredibly cohesive, and well executed, so kudos!

As far as gameplay, the idea is unexpected and that was fun. However, the strategy becomes a little one-dimensional where I found myself kiting enemies for a long time (4'34" to beat the rival) which slowed down the pace too. However, there is definitely potential to tune and add some variety to fan behavior (maybe super fans with their own aoe).

Really amazing amount of polished work in such a short amount of time, so you guys should be proud of the work here :)

Deadly Diver by Ethan Kennerly 2017-12-07T13:52:43Z

@handle Thanks for leaving feedback! The buoyancy meter is an interesting idea if we decide to keep iterating on the design.

Deadly Diver by Ethan Kennerly 2017-12-07T13:53:39Z

@eli-delventhal Haha yeah, Ridiculous Fishing was one of our inspirations :)

Deadly Diver by Ethan Kennerly 2017-12-07T15:32:21Z

@grentacular Aha, you found a bug :) Good catch, yeah we will definitely fix it for a future version.

Deadly Diver by Ethan Kennerly 2017-12-07T15:34:08Z

@joror Oh that's interesting. So you found a way to go down then up in two large paths to keep collecting treasure? Never thought of that strategy, but it's great to know as we iterate on the design.

Deadly Diver by Ethan Kennerly 2017-12-07T23:06:06Z

@moski Thanks for such a thoughtful review :) I gotta say, that I was blown away by your games aesthetic. The visuals and audio in Jazzy Beats gel so well!

Tourist Chaos by MestreRothLD 2017-12-07T14:14:15Z

Pretty fun concept! I like the idea of managing the space of the game board by planning the loops of my cars, and it fits with the theme well. The animations and sounds when the cars "ate" the pellets was juicy too!

Tony Hawk's Hatchback Stunt Simulator: Ghost Protocol by Eli Delventhal 2017-12-06T19:19:23Z

Really fun idea! The more I die, the more chaotic it gets. This doesn't feel like a punishment though, because there are a lot of fun interactions that result from crashing into a prior life. I figured out I could just speed along a road and that the map looped, so I did that a few times. Then in future lives I would get T-boned by a speeding bus occasionally. The music and sfx add a lot to the tone. It feels like Crazy Taxi in that regard.

Guardian Angel by Raven 2017-12-07T13:33:08Z

Awesome work on the compo! Overall it fits the theme well, and is easy to pick up and understand. You may have benefited from spending more time revising the feel of controls instead of adding the intro story to it. The narrative would still be clear without the opening, and the character moves a bit stiffly. Overall, the idea works well though :)

Defender Against the SuperBosses by Charlez245 2017-12-07T14:07:21Z

Overall good foundation, but could be fleshed out a bit more. I'm not sure how it relates to the theme (when enemies die they spawn more?). Although the visuals were simple, I didn't mind them. The music felt a little bit distracting however.

OverPowered by Gomango999 2017-12-07T13:51:01Z

Wow! You made a really polished game within the given time. It's easy to get into the game and have a fun time. The visuals and sounds add to the experience, and the variety to enemies keep it fresh. I especially like the quick way to restart a room to get back in the action right away. Really awesome work :)

LD56 — Tiny Creatures

Don't Scratch That Itch by Local Minimum 2024-10-12T22:30:42Z

Ahhh, this makes me itchy! Clever mechanic, it took me a practice round to see that the rashes appeared where my cursor hovered and how to steer the hand away from colliding with the rashes, but once I got the hang of it, I did much better (71 seconds).

It's an interesting strategy that you can scratch on non-rashy areas to prevent the hand from being as attracted to scratch the rash. This is something I tried to make use of, but found it a bit challenging to extend my score with.

Overall, really focused game that follows the theme well!

Juicy Little Morsels by Brendan Milos 2024-10-11T16:11:50Z

@local-minimum Thank you for the thoughtful feedback and +1 to all of it, agreed! We all had other obligations over the weekend, so we made sure to keep the scope as tight as possible. Adding more creature variety and more accurate "hand picking up" placement+feedback would absolutely help out :)

Juicy Little Morsels by Brendan Milos 2024-10-17T00:12:43Z

@lachlan-james thanks for the feedback! The game you mentioned wasn't one of the references on my end, I tend to like cute horror aesthetically though and can see the overlap. Have a Nice Death looks really fun!

@yodog can speak to the musical direction more. From my perspective, I know that he has worked woth Cello insutrmentation a lot and I had requested that early on because of the dramatic, moody sound. The musician on this really knocked it out of the park here!

Hallow Helpers by crow_seeds 2024-10-12T21:20:19Z

Really enjoyed the tiny creature items in this one! The puzzle design on the levels ramped up nicely in the first section. The controls felt a bit floaty and I found myself pressing space to jump, but that may be a me problem. The audio clips were strange, but funny!

build_a_dready_bear.swf by orbitaldot 2024-10-12T22:20:37Z

Fun idea! Building these "frankensteined" stuffed animals could be really rewarding. I had a lot of trouble knowing where the hit boxes were for the containers and placing objects in them. It might bw nice to have a visual feedback for hover state to help out with usability there. Great work!

Autopsy Center Simulator by Roroto Sic 2024-10-12T22:50:22Z

What a really cleaver idea! It felt like working at a morgue and I love the idea of being a detective in an autopsy, finding the cause of death. One usability feedback is that I wish the typeface was easier to read. It was difficult to parse out the words on some of the report pages. Also the pixel art felt like it could have been a bit more high fidelity on the bugs in order to help me determine which was which. Overall a solid way to take the theme and add an interesting mechanic, the sound design was excellent also!

AFTER HOURS by seltzerfish 2024-10-09T19:40:13Z

You got soooo much done in one weekend! I love the intro and the overall vibe. This game was challenging, but it was nice to have different genres for each level.

I did encounter a bug where my character disappeared after retrying the fish level (I kept dying lol), so I had to restart the game.

RPigG by WeirdBitGames 2024-10-09T19:48:10Z

This is a really interesting game mechanic. It took me a minute to understand and plan out each sweep along the path, but it's a really fun way to mix luck+strategy. The controls were super easy also!

One piece of feedback, I thought the stars were the points, so I was trying to hoard them. I didn't understand that they were the amount of nudges on the slot machine columns. Overall, really fun!

Wish Town by Iwant_Pizza 2024-10-10T01:00:28Z

Overall, a really ambitious concept. I love all things horror so I was excited to play this. However, I got stuck on the first pipes and computer fixing puzzle. For the green pieces, I was only able to pick up one of them. Maybe this was a bug. I solved the pipes, then kept looking around to see if I could figure out how to use the one green puzzle piece i picked up.

On a Good Bee Hive-or by lolhopen 2024-10-12T22:40:14Z

I got 250mg pollen! Fairly straightforward and I love the theme of bees collecting pollen. At first I thought the criteria of which flowers were desired each day/round would change, but when they didn't it became a matter of "find the dotted healthy flowers and click them all, avoid the wilted when possible". It felt like there could be something competing for the 5 clicks/energy to try and strategize more. Great work on the visuals!
