Nice, it is done :D
I got last code changes and project finished ~10 minutes before the deadline, and last publishing stuff done ~7 minutes before the deadline
This was my first time participating in a game Jam, was quite an experience ^^
Really unique gameplay for a gamejam, the wall of text on how to play hurt a little but once I was past that it was a lot of fun.
Very interesting take on the theme. It took me a good while to understand what I am supposed to do though. Very nice to see a text-based adventure style game.
I need more brain cell to play this game!
This is really a unique experience, I did not expect this from the evaluation process of the game jam participants! I had to build everything locally from the source codes (fortunately, I am a backend developer and I am familiar with sbt), dear author, you definitely need to do something with the build on itch, otherwise you will not be able to collect feedback on your project.
Now to the project, it looks very stylish, if the goal was to make something similar to the old dos games, then it really turned out!
Thanks for feedback!
@oxnh , @javasaurus , @dhim I planned to have tutorial in game, but failed to do so in this timeframe, so I just put a wall of text on this/Itch pages, but that was definitely not ideal. The game is not very self explanatory. Levels attempt to be in ascending difficulty order, the first ones teaching more basic stuff first, but you can play them in any order. Thanks for feedback!
@aleksey4adoff I made a mistake with assets (for example, using .wav for sounds, and too big images) and too big resolution, so it takes quite a while to load on itch. I originally thought it would be desktop game, but then I went for HTML5 on web for ease of access without testing it first properly (I was running quite thin on time tbh). Thanks for effort for building it regardless of the hassle, I'm sorry for that experience. Yeah, I took inspiration from the old dos games definitely!
EDIT: I fixed three bugs from the Itch version: -Scenario 7 is now winnable (it was missing one equipment) -Orb of the Depths is now properly consumed after use. -Fullscreen in itch.io partially works, however with it WASD scrolling no longer works (not essential in the game, but nice to have)
@aleksey4adoff
I updated few critical bugs from the itch version (looking at that performance issue later). Currently very likely your local version Scenario 7 is unplayable, and the Orb of the Depths is not properly consumed per use. I updated the source code download link also (Itch version is also up-to date, also partially fixed its fullscreen issue).
A little rough at first, we don't really know where to look and what to do, but it's a big job done, well done.
a very interesting concept, i will be returning to play it proper when i have the time :D
Wow I had a blast with this game! The beginning is very overwhelming, so many options and things to do, but when you start understanding what each thing does, the game becomes SO FUN. I played scenarios 1-6 but I plan to get back to this later. For a first jam game, and for a jam this short, the amount of depth of this game is unreal. I spent lots of time to beat level 6 but it definitely had that eureka moment when I was able to figure everything out. Dealing with your inventory, knowing how to traverse from one point to another, surrounding them, and then making them fall to you one by one is a hell of an experience.
Also, I love this kind of theme (cultists, creatures from the deep, cosmic horrors, this kinda stuff). The fact that all characters had their uses reminded me a lot of the lost vikings (norse by norsewest), but in a tactical kinda setting.
Great job on this one, I'll definitely follow you on itch to see what comes up next haha
There was way too many things to do at the first, even on story 1, and the game let me pick story 6 wich was silly considering my brain capacity. Once I went back to level 1 I had fun
I feel like I'm lacking the knowledge and vocabulary in that thematic area so I don't quite understand what's happening. Looks promising though!
Very interesting, reminds me a bit of Michael Brough's stuff...
Very intimidating at first, but you get the hang of it eventually and get to feel smart :-) Very nice!!
I don't know English very well, so I couldn't play the game fully, but I really liked the visuals and sound, which were incredible.
I enjoyed the idea. there was a ramp up in complexity that did a good job of teaching. Has a retro gameboy feel.
Very cool idea, nice audio work. Definitely think spacing out the gameplay text or re-working that part of the UI would immediately improve how easy it is to parse what's going on. I enjoyed playing and would happily play more of this game if it existed!
Couldn't make heads or tails of it. Too bad I wasn't able to play when you where in chat. Hope to play again or another game from you in future LDs
