very original mechanic, like it

senkoso 2025-04-08 19:33

nice mechanics, love it

pete-valeo 2025-04-08 19:40

Couldn't make it past the tutorial screen, but the mechanic is extremely interesting - would love to see a more polished version of a game using this same idea! The music was a good touch and set the vibe nicely, and the graphic look and feel was simple but effective and really impressive for a jam game.

hurp 2025-04-08 19:43

Havent seen this kind of concept before, its an interesting mechanic to play with focus. Will say I got abit dizzy after playing it for a while, it felt abit uncomfortable on the eyes with the incremental focus adjustment. But super cool idea :D

profugo-barbatus 2025-04-08 19:49

Neat mechanics, but absolutely brutal on the eyes. Didn't end up finishing the first level just because it started to hurt.

team-9tailed 2025-04-08 19:56

Well executed, but kind of gives me a headache. A decent amount of levels for a 72 hour jam, I must say nice work on that.

yiraa 2025-04-08 20:04

Cool concept, with an Antichamber vibe!

itsbarrex 2025-04-08 21:06

@Everyone who is struggling with the tutorial part: to put in the numbers make sure to be close enough to the panel and the second thing: the color of the ball has the same color as the target you need to hit =)

lev-ramburg 2025-04-09 15:39

awesome job!

kerdelos 2025-04-09 16:58

I found the mechanic really innovative and intriguing. Sadly maybe the depth of field is a bit too shallow here and it was quite uncomfortable to look a the game for a long time. I also struggled to understand what happens after I opened the coded door of Level 1, seems like I fell but I don't clearly understand what happens.

Overall I feel this is really interesting and a nice feat of graphic programming but I would suggest finding a way to make it less straining on the eyes.

Congrats !

snotax 2025-04-09 17:31

@kerdelos Thank you very much. Yes we are aware of that :D A lot of feedback has revolved around eye strain. I think it would need a lot of experimenting and polishing to get this to work in a full game.

baldurs 2025-04-10 04:47

I think you could maybe change it from a blur to some sort of darkness? I think this the best take on the camera depth concept so far that I have played, good work.

lt-c 2025-04-10 05:25

Really love the interpenetration of depth as depth of field, and there's some fun mechanics to boot!

Minor suggestion - the strings were a good idea but having interactive objects that change state elsewhere trigger audio & visual cues would really disambiguate cause and effect for the switches.

Wow, this game was a breath of fresh air! I haven't seen any other games that took the theme in this same direction. While it's true, it hurts your eyes after a time (it feels like I've lost my glasses, haha) it's still remarkable that you were able to build a game around such an unconventional mechanic--I've never seen any games quite like this one!

The music is great, the art direction is excellent (building to a really specific, interesting vibe)--overall, a great little puzzly platformer with a memorable core mechanic!

snotax 2025-04-11 07:40

@breadstick Thank you for the kind review. Glad you liked the idea!

t-pirozzini 2025-04-11 20:56

My favourite submission so far! Eyes got a bit tired after a bit, but I love the concept and it fits the theme incredibly well. Thanks for making this - really unique and a joy to play!

snotax 2025-04-11 21:33

@t-pirozzini Wow! Thank you for the feedback, we really appreciate it!

vidarn 2025-04-12 12:12

This was really fun. I loved the solution to puzzle 5

Overall very well designed puzzles that required thought but without being frustrating. I found my eyes got less tired if I kept the window relatively small on the screen and I was able to enjoy the whole game without having to take a pause. It was a cool and unusual experience and a very well designed game. Great job!

eugenik 2025-04-14 01:12

Good job! I love the artwork and music!.

Super awesome concept! As a hobbyist photographer its super satisfying. Very impressive what you were able to do in the time limit as well! To bad that some of the mechanics demonstrated couldnt be more utilized. I liked the enemy turrets that only aggro when in focus. I really liked the concept of the perspective level. Would love to see a second room on that level that really ups that ante with a bunch of climable structures and more complicated perspective puzzles.

Only major complain is the buttons. There was very little feedback for when they are activated and the fact they activate the second that they are in focus often meant that i was activating and deactivating them on the periphery of my perspective all the time without even knowing it. (note im on a 32x9 monitor so this issue might be some what exacerbated by my configuration) Consider some kind of activation mechanic so that they only activate when the player intends to activate them.

Awesome game style. never really seen it so far, huge plus from my side.

Difficult to get the hang of IMO, as I have no experiance with cameras etc.

ammonit 2025-04-23 17:59

Hi! Great execution of the theme! Engaging gameplay! I see a lot of people complaining about eye strain; it’s due to the color scheme — it’s too contrasting and bright. If you choose the right color palette, it’ll be much better and easier on the eyes!

sam-gorman 2025-04-23 18:09

Alright - I made it through a few levels but I had to stop because I was getting a headache...

There's a lot I like here. The puzzle-chamber structure reminds me a lot of something like Portal. There are some pretty neat puzzles, but the best are those that use the focus mechanic which sets this game apart - for example, one early puzzle I liked was having to adjust your focus as you walked across a bridge to keep it solid. The visuals of the puzzle chambers are also pretty neat!

The depth of field system, to me, made the game extremely frustrating to play. So much of the game involved just scrolling back and forth to see things, which isn't really a puzzle. Some puzzles didn't even use the focus mechanic, and those that did (like the laser bridge I mentioned earlier) don't typically use the visual aspect of it. This means the game world is impossible to see properly for little gameplay reason, and you end up struggling to even find anything to read or interact with. This was especially tedious because the amount of world you can have in focus is extremely small (this can even make the non-visual gameplay annoying to line up). It just feels like busywork rather than puzzling. On top of the gameplay frustration from the blurriness, it's also just exhausting on the eyes trying to focus on a tiny sliver of world which is constantly scrolling back and forth. Solving puzzles is hard enough without a headache!

Overall - I think you guys have some real potential with your puzzle designs. There was some clever stuff going on! The depth-of-field mechanic just needs to be re-designed with a focus on player experience, gameplay, and clarity. The blurriness aspect of it either needs to be toned down or removed entirely, to be honest (most of your puzzles would work just as well if the DOF was just a box on the ground). With the visual aspect improved, players could propely focus on your puzzles!

philocode 2025-04-23 18:24

Hey, this is such a cool and impressive game, I absolutely loved it! The amount of ideas you had for creating the puzzles to play with the depth is fantastic. My favourite thing was probably the puzzle with multiple balls, where you had to watch one of them to make sure its track does not disappear. Keeping the focus on what mattered made deciding on what is important for a puzzle crucial, which I think is great. Well done!

jim-jagers 2025-04-23 19:53

fun game

transkuja 2025-04-23 21:56

Cool mechanic, but really hard to play! Well done!

hirqshi 2025-04-23 23:15

That felt and played like some absolute underground masterpiece, art is truly surreal but the gameplay kept me playing till the very end. Depth of field was one of my first ideas for the jam, but i didn't know how to implement it, and you did this if not perfectly than very unqiue and fun. Great game

snotax 2025-04-24 12:48

@sam-gorman Thank you very much for the long and detailed feedback! We really appreciate it!
