Hey, I cant start the game, can you check this out?АА.PNG

gabriel-chan 2024-10-07 19:21

I've always loved this type of game! Very fun, albeit a bit difficult. Sound effects and music are very fitting and add a lot to the game. Overall solid entry!

jaco-van-hemert 2024-10-07 19:26

@endejck The LD embed seems super broken; there's an itch.io link that works in the links section you can use instead (and it's a WebGL build on there as well).

iron-head 2024-10-07 19:35

The game seems *Ant*icing )

eugen-rantev 2024-10-07 19:47

Loved it quite a bit! Long live the Ant-pire!

jaco-van-hemert 2024-10-07 19:52

@gabriel-chan / @iron-head / @eugen-rantev : The Ant-pire appreciates your service. Glory to the Ant-peror Queen!

rascarcapackdev 2024-10-07 20:30

I never realised I was missing this kind of games in my life. Thank you

iustinian 2024-10-07 20:31

Really nice game, this empire theme is great!

ramchops-games 2024-10-07 20:42

I like your game's name first of all! The ant puns in the cities' names are pretty funny too. Gameplay is solid and cohere-ant as much as I tried. I played on all three maps on the Normal difficulty, as well as touched a bit of Insane Mode in Ant-stralia. That name indeed wasn't for show, haha... I ant-icipated losing, and I was right --- I was completely ant-nihilated by the enemy AI.

Ironically, I found that the South Ant-merica map was easier than the Eur-ant-sia. Maybe it's the infighting between two enemy factions in South Ant-merica, maybe it's the Samurai Ant's strong ability in Eur-ant-sia, or maybe it's a bit of column A and B.

Would it be redund-ant to comment on how I like the ant puns again? If so, I will conclude this review here. Maybe I should have been a bit more hesit-ant before I overloaded this review with all these ant puns. They're way too abund-ant!

Glory to the Ant-pire!

Top notch game ! nice polish with music and controls, good feeling with the gameplay, i WANT TO PLAY MORE

jaco-van-hemert 2024-10-07 21:45

@ramchops-games The Ant-peror Queen is pleased with your ant puns, as well as the success of your conquest throughout all three contin-ants. And we concur: in South Ant-merica, the enemy of our enemy is indeed our friend -- at least until we also crush them under the heels of a million Imperial Ants.

Glory to the Ant-pire.

I'm pretty sure there's a lot more to life than being really, really, ridiculously good looking. And I plan on finding out what that is.

helloworldnoob 2024-10-07 22:32

great game, pretty simple in terms of idea, played a similar one on my phone

pachino55 2024-10-08 04:30

FUN! I love this concept so much, one of the best games I’ve seen so far

martingonn 2024-10-08 04:48

Great! Has a thematic feel (of annihilation), is fun to play, very customizable, three full levels. Honestly, I think you could go on to make some money with that game! Congratulations!!!

tuism 2024-10-08 05:45

Great game! Well polished and plays well, everything is on a technically great level :D - The dedication to the bit with ant puns is very good lol, though like, is there a quit button on it just for the pun? It's a webGL game, why is there a quit button :p - Love that there are different abilities for the different ants, though it's hard to really see the differences, I guess it must really be there, but would like it to be more visible. Maybe abilities triggers could be shown explicitly in some way, like damage number in brackets, or growth number with (-10) for whatever their penalties incur. Not super important, but it allows the player to feel the individuality of each factions. - One gripe is that the button to send ants and the button for selecting a destination are distinct. I feel like it should be okay to click on the general area to start selection and on the general area to confirm destination. Or with a drag gesture. It's a minor gripe :p - The AI is quite good, or maybe I'm quite dumb, either way, there's enough challenge without it feeling too easy or too hard. Victory is hard earned and that's great. - I guess if I had to really think about it, the game doesn't really innovate much since it's a mechanic that's been used many times before. I think the abilities are an innovation? - The ability to change the speed of the simulation is great.

jaco-van-hemert 2024-10-08 07:27

@tuism Thanks for participating in the Imperial conquest!

- There's a Windows version on the itch page as well (which needs a quit button), and we didn't think of removing the one in the WebGL build. Whoops. - The Ant-pire's enemies definitely have differing abilities, but I do agree that it feels a bit subtle at times. Some extra UI feedback could be helpful in this regard. - We concur with your feeling about the sending. E.g. Sometimes I'd accidentally select another colony when I wanted to send someone to that location. We had a bit of an issue figuring out how to make the location selection be easier to click without making the ability to select a new ant colony harder. The drag idea is intriguing; there's a few UI habits we've fallen into that it'll hamper, but it might be worth it.

Glory to the Ant-pire!

coderaurus 2024-10-08 08:48

Good war game. I like the puns and the setting overall. The music really makes you feel like you are a ant in the great ant march.

Selecting colonies and their path was slightly quirky which cost me an ant or hundreds. But other than that it felt good in gameplay. In the first match I totally forgot to check opponents ability.

Well done!

bobap 2024-10-08 11:57

This game deconstructs the civilization sim genre down into the simplest of terms. Very well executed, fantastic atmosphere, and surprisingly straightforward to understand and play.

webberiel 2024-10-08 12:22

Cool concept, but it feels like game is too hard for me. But works perfectly

kirass 2024-10-08 17:35

Cool idea! Super!

kallam 2024-10-08 18:26

Fun game love the mobile games like this!

hidden61ade 2024-10-09 03:27

The depth of the system of this game is simply amazing. TRUE ANT DIVERS II LOL.

chrisbeck 2024-10-09 10:02

Really love this, it felt a bit difficult but then again I'm probably just bad at games!

bigwhiteshogun 2024-10-10 01:32

This was very fun. As soon as figured out that blitz is super effective no other ants stood a chance against my empite! Finished all three scenarios in one sitting. Fantastic game, great use of theme, and very unique gameplay! Kudos to you guys o7

codmen4000 2024-10-10 21:52

This is by far the best game I've played for the jam so far. I say this a lot, but I truly mean it for this game: Make this into a steam game! Take my money!

wraithind 2024-10-11 00:25

Very enjoyable little game. I'm usually not very good at these, but I was able to do quite well by just focusing on speed and ferocity, something I can get behind, and it usually worked out fairly well. Took me a little bit to grasp that I was supposed to click on the colony picture to select them, and clicked on the location marker to move them, but that could have just been a me thing. Over all, well done, keep it up!

jnur 2024-10-11 20:25

Fun! Got a bit hectic at times, but there's a surprising amount of depth out of such a simple mechanic

haayaargh 2024-10-16 21:55

I'm glad I found it, right up my alley. Very simple yet engaging. Failed many times, then completed each level on Easy and Normal.

Playing on Normal right from the start wasn't a good decision. And I agree with an earlier comment, that Australia is more difficult on Easy and Normal than Euroasia or South America. It doesn't matter a lot, because you can play it in any order, but tiering it 1-3 suggests difficulty spike. I would argue that South America is the easiest if you are lucky enough for enemy ants to focus on each other.

You probably thought about it, but I would love to play different types of ants to employ different strategies. Like Australian ants are good for early aggro plays, and Samurai ants on focused attacks to regain their numbers after conquering a colony.

Do you plan to work on that a bit more for some kind of extended version?

skyystorm 2024-10-18 13:33

@haayaargh Thanks! If we had more time, we would have added a 'custom' mode where you can play as the other ant types with their abilities! We might extend it a bit, who knows! Thank you for playing.

reyansh 2024-10-21 07:03

Really creative and good game idea! I really liked how unique the idea was and how the harder difficulties were actually difficult. To be honest though I think South American conquest was a bit too easy compared to the others.

jcourt 2024-10-23 09:43

This was really fun!

I'm impressed with how polished and complete this feels, given the time limit. The art works well, and the difficulty is pretty good too I think. I also thought the different advantages the other ants had were interesting.

Most similar games I've played have armies also be able to fight on roads between cities, not just at the cities themselves, and I felt like not doing that actually allowed for a little different strategy at times, because it actually made sense to retreat. It might have made it a little easier to win at times - if an AI sent a large army at one of your cities that you couldn't beat, it usually meant that they left the city it came form lightly defended, and easy to take over. I did that a lot in the first level, and I think it's the reason I ended up with more cities, and therefore more production.

My only real criticism is that the theme seems somewhat minimal. Aside from the puns, it seems like this game would have been made to suit almost any theme, but a lot of games are like that (mine included), so, you know.

sleepystudios 2024-10-24 20:19

I spent so much time playing this game. It was really addictive and really well made. The mechanics were simple and intuitive and it was just overall really fun to fight it out over territory. The AI was impressive actually, it did make some really good decisions so well done!
