Its rare to see a racing game in a jam and one so well done at that. Congratulations! Its one of my favorite games so far. The art is great, the movemenet feels great and the path indicater helps a lot. Great job!

Awesome game!! Had an absolute blast the whole time I was playing - the polish here is incredible: juicy sfx, the perfect use of the guiding line and re-orientation arrow if you get lost, the translucency of the character, the world-record ghost - everything. This game feels far too well honed for a jam game - especially one with a multiplayer element. Goes to show that a good application of the theme can really stretch this simple asset pack into several gorgeous arenas. Also - the 'cm/s' gave me a good chuckle. This game reminds me of a childhood hot-wheels game... Good warm fuzzy feelings - loved it!

master-yeet 2024-10-08 22:49

Wow I was impressed how great this game felt! I was worried about getting lost when I first saw the screenshots, but not at all! I really like all the small details such as the trail that guides you, the arrow pointing the direction if you were getting lost, the leaderboard and the best player ghost. Very well done! My only complain would be that I did not feel much difference with the agility stat, the faster bug is really meta.

mhorth 2024-10-08 23:14

@ugly-robot was this the Hot Wheels game? Because this image was on my inspiration board after brainstorming lol. I so badly wanted to make environments that would live up to that game. image.png

Thank you very much for your comments, glad you had fun!

ugly-robot 2024-10-09 00:45

@mhorth yes it is! Haha thank you for that blast from the past - well you did a fantastic job of capturing the same feeling!

This is an amazing game, can't believe this was done in a weekend! The controls and feel of it were well polished, and the art and SFX were on point. I particularly liked the Floral Frenzy and Winding Willow tracks, felt great seeing all that nature up close and slaloming between them. Overall it was just a well executed concept back to front. Thanks for sharing and congrats on a slam dunk!

Also, the cm/s label was a great touch :butterfly:

haoro 2024-10-09 10:39

Really nice game ! The controls are instinctive and it makes you want to try hard a better timer 👌 Keep up the good work !

thiago-neumann 2024-10-09 17:06

Pretty Pretty Good!!!

mateu 2024-10-09 19:45

As always, your submissions are always extremely impressive, both technically and experientially. Everything you put together like the splines, flight controller, maps, and menu/UI goes together very nicely and is very seamless. The flight controller is really good and makes it so much fun to fly around and try to figure out the physics of the game. Everything has a very polished feel that makes it fun to fly around and try to beat your own times.

I think the best thing is the addition of the previous best time and WR time being displayed. It makes it so much more fun to try to beat my times when I know what I am going up against.

There's not that much more to say without being overly nitpicky. Awesome job this time!

cliff-coffee 2024-10-10 23:57

This is great! I will definitely be playing more to see what kind of track times I can get. Really well put together, great sound, controls, UI, all of it. Impressed!

chocolat-endive 2024-10-11 10:29

Some of you are insanely fast! This is a neat game, I can't understand how you can manage to make such polished thing in 72h, it's really impressive. I remember playing one of your previous LD game, Terminal Velocity, is was pretty good too.

The game works well with an xbox one controller, but I really feel that's it's best to play it with a mouse and keyboard.

The only little issue that I had, is that on the menu, if you don't have and ultrawide monitor, the name of the first level is cropped. At first I did'nt understood the bar under the level selection was a scrolling bar:

Great job!

stuckne1 2024-10-11 10:39

I had a blast flying through the levels in this game. I really appreciated the way the environments look and sound. This feels more like a fuller game than I was expecting (4 levels wow!)

pralista 2024-10-11 10:40

Wow, this one is my favorite so far, but how come we beat the dev on the leaderboard? No matter how hard I tried they always seem faster XD

Anyway congrats, it's a great submission!

wzjo 2024-10-11 10:51

The game has a high level of completeness, excellent visual guidance, and a great gaming experience.

bacontree 2024-10-11 10:51

Really cool idea for a racing game. I thought it was really fun and very well thought out. I really like that you had the line to see where you were going so you didn't need to get lost. Nice that you managed to get four levels in for a game jam game. It feels very complete. Good job! ^^

mhorth 2024-10-11 13:22

@chocolat-endive thank you so much for your comments! Good eye on the main menu. I didn't see that until after I submitted, but I figure I'll mention the fix in case anyone runs into the same issue. I don't think it's super obvious.

It all comes down to the pivot point on the *Content* object. I started with the pivot being at {X: 0.5, Y: 0.5} and that caused the behavior that you see, the track select group being centered. Changing the pivot to {X: 0, Y: 0.5} makes the content start with its left edge on the left edge of the scroll view. Similarly if anyone wanted to start on the far right, I imagine a pivot of {X: 1, Y: 0.5} would achieve that. Screenshot 2024-10-11 091439.png

chocolat-endive 2024-10-11 19:22

@mhorth oh yeah it's much better like this! and it makes the scroll bar more noticable and understandable

mattpopa 2024-10-11 20:11

Woaaaahhhh, this game was awesome! Felt great except for the part where the world record ghosts are so much faster than me .

There are so many small elements that made everything feel good from the trails showing the direction to the angle of the checkpoints to the HUD display the much needed info, it all felt right. This seems like it has the potential for something much larger. The levels are a bit too same-y making memorizing the "race tracks" a bit difficult, especially since it's a 3D space, however for 72 hours the tracks are still considerably well done and the art style is lovely.

Overall super impressed. Well done!

emsea 2024-10-12 03:32

This game really tapped into my inner 90's child. Total vibe. The speed effects where done super well and I absolutely love the golden trail. Excellent work!!

bacalear 2024-10-12 10:22

great!

knarf 2024-10-12 15:37

Perfect take on the theme and great/clean execution! AI opponent seems hard to beat btw, but it was great to have ghost and scoreboards. It reminds me some old arcade racing games :) Even knowing it's asset well done assembing it, that looks colorful and nice. Feels good to be a flying insect. As a suggestion, i thought it could add difficulty and fun to have some interaction with assets, like colliding with flowers ^^ Well done, good job!

mhorth 2024-10-12 15:57

@knarf thanks for your feedback, and good suggestion! That could be very good to collide with flowers/leaves, and maybe they bend out of the way after slowing you down a bit.

I do have to let you know that there is no AI or bot-racers in the game. The world record that you see is truly another player!

jesse-martin 2024-10-12 16:43

Nice, think the other insects need balancing, there seems to be a clear best, but really fun and well done

ategon 2024-10-12 16:52

I'm usually pretty "meh" when it comes to ring flying games, but the extra polish you put into the guiding trail, leaderboard ghosts, and different bugs actually made this a really fun experience that I wanted to keep playing despite the usual 10-minute time limit we usually put on playtests  Great job!

shadowmitia 2024-10-15 05:57

Very cool game, and very amazing polish! It's hard to navigate when you don't know the map, the golden glow thing helps but if there are sharp turns, or the target isn't visible, I easily get off course. And I don't wanna restart the track halfway in  Otherwise I had great fun, really liked it!

master-age 2024-10-23 12:00

Great to see a racing game in a jam. I liked the variety in maps and insects. The keyboard and mouse controls felt good.

The yellow guiding line is a good addition although it does make me wonder what level design would limit how lost the player got without sacrificing the sense of freedom.

The music had a good sense of energy and urgency without being too overbearing.

The only issue I had was the starting circle confused me a number of times. In my opinion it should disappear after the first checkpoint.

Great game!
