I really liked the graphics and mood - it is however a little hard to understand what's going on at times. It took a while for me to get a fight going because i didn't know how to start the "summoning". Idea is really cool tho and i very much like the style.

mephistase 2024-04-16 09:41

What a great concept! It lacks polish and return on inputs, is too slow with a lot of grind, however I was really into it ! I was really wanting for more interactions and invocations types, meaning you have in your hands something worth of Pokemon XD

Two last notes: -If you click on the "continue" button fast enough, you are able to launch several battles at the same time, up to a point where just clicking gives you souls ^^ -The drawing sequence should really launch when the player press the first input. It is too tedious if it launch directly.

Great work !

ecenizo 2024-04-16 09:43

The mood and the idea is pretty cool. Super on theme as well. Gameplay wise I got a bit lost, I could complete a fight but i wasnt sure what was happening.

benjiehotwheels 2024-04-16 09:45

Neat concept, I also really like the graphics, tho its quite difficult to understand what to do a lot of times since there's no clear controls listed and feedback for your actions is also not very clear. Good effort tho!

taximan981 2024-04-16 09:46

So theres a small bug... Pressing the continue button fast lets you make lots of little minions. I liked the idea of quick time events to summon it!

drgcandle 2024-04-16 09:52

Simple yet extraordinary, it's a fantastic game I really enjoy. Hopefully, one day, I can make one myself.

stowy 2024-04-16 09:54

I really like the idea of summons circles (Kinda reminds me for Witch Hat Atelier)! There where a few technical problems, like the UI not being responsive so I had to change my screen to 1920x1080 and also I was able to start mutiple games at once. Also, once the battle has started, it's a bit slow. Would be nice if there where some stuff to do to not just wait until it's over. Other than that, it is very nice !

nickelfoolish 2024-04-16 09:55

As the other said the concept are quite nice. It was overall fun but maybe a bit to slow with a lack of feedback but anyway great job !

shugor 2024-04-16 09:58

Neat game! I really like the sense of progression as you get a few different sigil's under your belt, battles get shorter and you get more and more currency to spend. Very satisfying. I also think your elemental charts are really well thought out, would definitely be curious to play a later build where the enemies have the planned elemental variety if you end up working on it.

One thing I would like to see more of is some responsiveness or feedback, "game feel" stuff like sound or visual effects particularly on the summoning circle drawing minigame. I found it quite hard to handle at first and missed half of the inputs... Well, that's mainly my fault but it would certainly add to the feel of it to have some kind of feedback.

Anyway good job I like what you have here and I appreciate the ambition of what you were going for.

rexagon 2024-04-16 10:00

I liked the idea! It seems that the battles can either be sped up, or allowed to be influenced in some way (for example through something similar to the Summoning Circle but during the fight).

chrisbeck 2024-04-16 10:01

@jo-bettaque Thanks for the feedback! In hindsight yeah, the summoning is a little unclear if you aren't the one thats programmed it! The controls on the LD page are more indepth than the tutorial in game so they might help to clear some things up :D Thanks for playing!

chrisbeck 2024-04-16 10:04

@mephistase Thanks for the feedback! We only implemeneted the continue, edit circle and learn buttons about 2 hours before the deadline so we knew there would be some bugs with it xD Thanks for playing!

chrisbeck 2024-04-16 10:11

@ecenizo Thanks for the feedback! Agreed, the gameplay is a bit confusing for first timers, we would have loved to add some more feedback for the play as to what was going on but time got away from us! Thanks for playing and check back in future for any updates!

chrisbeck 2024-04-16 10:12

@benjiehotwheels Thanks for the feedback! The lack of clear controls in game is one of the biggest flaws in the current version, the controls listed on the LD page are a lot more clear on how to play and what the objective is. Also adding some more feedback for the player like sound and other animations would help a lot in understanding what's happening! Thanks for playing!

bronino 2024-04-16 10:15

Cool game, I love the your pixel art style and the music sets the mood.

chrisbeck 2024-04-16 10:15

@taximan981 Thanks for the feedback! The 'gameplay loop' of the game wasn't added in until very late on into the project so we just had to accept that there would be bugs xD Thanks for playing and check back in future for improvements!

bex2499 2024-04-16 10:15

wow! so much effort! i love the hand written look of the book! the attention to detail is amazing especially given the time frame! really well done!

chrisbeck 2024-04-16 10:15

@drgcandle Thank you for the feedback and thanks for playing!

chrisbeck 2024-04-16 10:18

@stowy Thanks for the feedback! The initial plan was that applying an element to a Minion would let the player attack with that type, there was also a planned shield mechanic, but unfortunately time got away from us there. Thanks for playing and be sure to check back for future updates!

chrisbeck 2024-04-16 10:20

@nickelfoolish Thanks for the feedback! The battles were supposed to be quicker with the planned player abilities but we had to settle for an autobattler xD Thanks for playing.

chrisbeck 2024-04-16 10:22

@shugor Thank you for the great feedback! Agreed that the lack of player input and feedback is an area that we could have given more attention to, and absolutely will next time . Thanks for playing and make sure to check back in future for updates!

chrisbeck 2024-04-16 10:25

@rexagon Thanks for the feedback! The initial game idea allowed the play to use elemental attacks based on what they had applied to their Minion, but unfortunately we didn't have time to fully implement it, the back end has a whole system for calculating elemental damage based on types but it sucks we didn't have chance to get it added in completely. Thanks for playing!

chrisbeck 2024-04-16 10:26

@bronino Thanks for the feedback and thank you so much for playing !

chrisbeck 2024-04-16 10:27

@bex2499 Thank you for the feedback! A lot of time was spent making sure the art felt consistent and fit the theme we were going for! Thanks for playing!

gamesplusjames 2024-04-16 10:29

This is a fun idea! Great job :)

rugg 2024-04-16 10:34

I enjoyed the mood, the progression and the summoning mechanic was really nice. :) One technical thing I've noticed: At one point, the Continue/Edit Circle/Learn buttons remained on the screen even after choosing the Learn option. I could then start a fight while also choosing a new affix.

rokevicius 2024-04-16 10:42

Maybe I'm sleep deprived from the Jam, but I can get past the tutorial book? This can be because of the 21:9 resolution (main menu canvas is scaled weird if this aspect ratio is used).

chrisbeck 2024-04-16 11:38

@gamesplusjames Thanks for the feedback and thanks for playing!

chrisbeck 2024-04-16 11:40

@rugg Thanks for the feedback! Yeah we knew that the end battle buttons were going to be a bit buggy when clicking them too quickly, next time hopefully we'll have the gameplay finished before the deadline so we can squash some of the bugs! Thanks for playing!

chrisbeck 2024-04-16 11:41

@rokevicius Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately the game only supports 1920x1080, we would have liked to add support for other resolutions and aspect ratios but we just didn't have time. Thanks for playing!

0x0961h 2024-04-16 13:10

The rhythm-summoning mechanic was a bit confusing at first and then I was kept missing the "notes", but the summoning still worked somehow. That's an interesting concept and congrats on releasing the game! :v:

nimolas 2024-04-16 13:27

@0x0961h The summoning mechanic was supposed to be based on the four outter symbols. They would affect the type of summon based on how many you got. We didn't have time to implement that though.

The inner ones are the selected affixes that add bonuses to your minions damage. We wanted the enemies to spawn with random affixes too, but ran out of time.

Once again fell to scope creep

0x0961h 2024-04-16 13:41

@nimolas Oh, I can feel the pain of the score creep in game jams. But you managed to push through it and make a game anyway, so in the end it's all that matters!

kallico 2024-04-16 14:22

I can't edit the summoning circle after the fight :(

Also maybe I chose a bad start layout but my minion is exactly par, and I'm loosing 10 souls every battle to spawn them.

chrisbeck 2024-04-16 14:51

@kallico Thanks for the feedback, if you've added all of your unlocked affixes in, you can't edit the circle until you have learned new affixes from the learn menu. We realised too late that we should have had a button to clear the circle! As long as you add at least one affix to the circle, your minion should be able to beat the first few enemies. Thanks for playing!

kseniya 2024-04-16 17:28

the idea is interesting, but at first it's unclear (I figured it out a little later!

chrisbeck 2024-04-16 17:35

@kseniya Thanks for the feedback! For the next jam we’ll definitely focus on making things clear to the player so they can actually enjoy the game! Thanks for playing.

suksu 2024-04-16 17:35

Cool game but could use some small bug fixes. Art was minimalistic but enjoyable and the summoning mechanic was well made.

bittripbrit 2024-04-16 17:39

Really solid job on the game and really cool concept overall. I love the art direction a lot.

vkonstantin 2024-04-16 17:41

Definitely needs some polish. Fights take a long time and become quite boring very quickly. However I like the idea and with the proper updates this could become a very good project! Keep up the good work! Also like the art and music.

sodoj 2024-04-16 17:54

The concept was super interesting, mixing and matching different elements to create a perfect demon is very enticing. I had fun watching my little baby blast all those ghouls. However, I found UI to be very unintuitive at first. I was very confused by "learn" page, thinking it only provides information on elements, it wouldve been really cool if the options were a bit more highlighted to resemble a button or something like that. Overall, a very decent attempt, I had a good time!

nimolas 2024-04-16 18:02

@suksu @bittripbrit @vkonstantin @sodoj Thanks for the feedback, we'll take that into consideration for the next one. Thank you for the words of encouragement and for giving the game a try

josion 2024-04-16 20:03

The creative summoning mechanic coupled with the charming art style makes for an engaging experience. It's great to see such an innovative take on the theme. Well done on bringing this idea to life!

smoky01 2024-04-17 11:09

The gameplay mechanics in this game are so intuitive! It's like the controls become an extension of your own instincts. Plus, the art style adds a unique flair that keeps you engaged throughout. Definitely a gem worth exploring!

codbaade 2024-04-17 19:46

fist of all love the game really fun to play and i found a bug when your minion (summoned monster) dies it shows the continue... buttons but if you spam the continue button really fast it spawns like many games (round) again and again and it only follows the 1 round when the 1 round is over other minions and zombies?(enemy) stay and just do nothing.

almalewis 2024-04-18 15:00

Oh, these lifelong learnings)

nsadie 2024-04-18 19:57

I could not download the windows file! I just get a message saying Not found.

baluj 2024-04-19 03:35

It's an interesting concept, I've had a good time playing it. Good job!

kanagg 2024-04-19 20:56

Sadly, I was not able to play it very much because the UI is cut off for me on my 21:9 display. A windowed mode could be a quick fix for that :)

tryam 2024-04-20 10:36

I liked the graphics and the music was overpowering. But I didn't have enough dynamics in battle (shells are flying very slowly)

pacelin 2024-04-20 10:36

Please, fix your file link on ldjam, unfortunatly, it's not working. I download game via gitlab, game is cool, but so slow fight is terrible. We are develop so similar mechanic, I really like it!

knatt 2024-04-21 18:25

I like the concept of uncovering runes and making a circle out of them to summon things. The few areas that Id focus on is feedback and pacing. It was a slow grind. I hit him for like a 5th of his health and he got me with almost nothing, so it was obvious that I was going to win, but I still had to sit through the projectiles crawling across the screen. Congrats on the entry!

chrisbeck 2024-04-22 09:15

@nsadie @pacelin Thanks for the heads up on the file upload issue, should be all sorted now!
