Funny game! A bit difficult, but it's really cool to play and to test different mechanics!

flancon 2023-10-02 18:09

Ups, posted it twice

voidred 2023-10-02 18:39

Cool game though a bit lacking in audio, enjoyed thoroughly!

brokenbridge 2023-10-02 18:46

I really like the mechanics, pleasant graphics and the idea of your game. I just coudn't figure out what to do in level 2. I wanted to find a way to hook into the first wall, but my mashine either was pushed to the wrong side or I hadn't enough space at the top to build a "hook". I'm sure I did overlook something simple. I think I will come back at some point and give it another try. Good work nonetheless.

Awesome game, played very well, great use of theme. Only complaint was that some of the more "pixel perfect" interactions were a bit difficult to play around but I very well may have just done it the hard way!

soloadventurergames 2023-10-02 19:35

I actively lost track of time playing this lol

jeremy-ryan 2023-10-02 22:26

Awesome concept, and very clean execution. It was really satisfying to build a tiny machine and walk it around the map. The antigravity mechanic was a little unintuitive at first, but made for some interesting puzzles once I got a good sense of how it worked.

The pixel art is very cute and clean (the threaded rods reminded me a little bit of the airships in Super Mario Bros 3!). All the important bits in the level were distinct colors and were communicated very well. The building menu was also very intuitive.

Audio was simple, but got the job done. Music would have been a nice addition, but obviously time is very limited for the Compo.

Nice work, and good luck during play and rate!

holyblackcat 2023-10-03 03:49

@jellycopter All levels have setups that work without pixel-perfect movements. :)

@brokenbridge Aha, my wife got stuck on it for a good 15 minutes too. I've added some hints to the description, just in case.

Really nice puzzles and mechanics!

thomas-bringer 2023-10-03 08:06

Amazing game! Core mechanic is unique and deep. I felt like an engineer on level 2 after re-inventing walking haha. GG!

frogravity 2023-10-04 16:06

Wow, amazing game! The core mechanic was so, so clever! The moment that you gave me the ability to create my own machines I realized I was in for a treat... and then I got stuck immediately (it was level 2). But after checking your hint, I beat it and realized just how cool this game is! Nevertheless, I couldn't beat level 5 for the life of me - I think I was stuck there for like half an hour before I just gave up... But I eventually skipped it and beat the other levels without too much trouble. The graphics were really slick too. I also got a crash once when building something pretty weird (don't remember what though), but other than that, awesome entry! I spent almost an hour playing it...

Best game so far

sbeif 2023-10-05 14:51

Very cool idea and very polished game. I always make sure to check your games when I join a jam because they're usually great. The quality is great in this one too, but I feel there are a couple of things keeping it from becoming a great game: the first is that I think I completed the first four levels with the this design without giving it so much thought, so perhaps the level design could be changed so that this is not the best choice as often Screenshot 2023-10-05 163658.png The other is that I'm not a fan of the behaviour where when expanding a bit, both sides would move, as it wasn't always intuitive where one would stop and suddenly cling to a surface. This feeling was stronger with purple blocks. Also I think in level 4 I had to start over a couple of times because I pushed a block like a pixel too far, so perhaps some kind of snap to a grid could help.

Also as a side note, my game crashed at level 6 while I was trying to make a probably invalid shape (also how do you get down those stairs with only horizontal expanders without making the blocks stick to each other??) Screenshot 2023-10-05 163240.png I verified that it crashes every time I make this combination (which I realize doesn't make sense, but still..) Screenshot 2023-10-05 164401.png

holyblackcat 2023-10-05 17:33

@sbeif Thanks for debugging the crash, fixed.

Hint for level 6 - it's legal to place 2 rods in a row in the editor.

Regarind the П design, it didn't occur to me that it also worked on level 1... :weary:

Regarding which side moves - when there's gravity, if one side sits on the ground and the other doesn't, the one on the ground stays still. This condition will suddenly toggle when a gravity block is attached/detached, so there's that. (If both sides are on the ground or both not, if one side rests against a movable block, then it stays still. Otherwise both move.)

sbeif 2023-10-05 19:36

@holyblackcat oohh I get it, when I tried to place two rods in a row I saw them in red and it didn't occur to me that it could be fixed by placing a square on both ends, i thought it was illegal. Ok now it all makes sense!

germdog53 2023-10-06 04:18

This is a really slick concept and it is well done. I really enjoyed playing it. My only constructive criticism would be to add some concentration music :)

kuggenhoffen 2023-10-06 14:32

Awesome little puzzle game, took a while to understand the mechanism but after I got it it was quite fun to solve the problems. Good job!

gamedevjeroen 2023-10-06 20:01

That was awesome!!! loved the puzzles. Would love to see this as a full game. Would be interesting to see what other mechanics could be added!

nicholaspfo 2023-10-06 21:22

Very cool concept which makes good puzzles possible. Like the simplicity of the idea so you dont need much introduction.

obittner 2023-10-06 21:26

Amazing. Definitely the entry I spent the most time on so far. Only level 6 felt oddly inaccurate, it looks like the block is supposed to fall straight down into the socket, but most of the time it got stuck on the right edge, and when I pushed it to the other side it went over the socket instead of falling into it. Anyway, I managed to get it to work and played the whole game.

holyblackcat 2023-10-07 03:33

@obittner Works as intended. :P There's a setup that makes it not pixel-perfect.

lachlan-james 2023-10-07 05:20

Craaazily impressive for a jam. Loved the progression of the puzzles and the application of the theme. Puzzle design was deep and interesting, and you got humour points for the way the last level came together - what a lovely punchline.

Little bit of BGM would have been cool.

Can't believe how tight the physics (or simulation thereof) felt. Great, great stuff.

3mpty 2023-10-07 10:20

This game is a lot of fun and very novel, some great puzzle design as I had to think about each level exactly the right amount to solve, fun brain teasers all around.

The graphics are solid but sadly there's not really any sound which would have elevated the experience, but I was so enamored I barely noticed.

Lots of fun thinking about alternative paths and orderings and experimenting to see how they work.

The perfect being gives it's regards.

kanity 2023-10-07 20:39

Very cute graphics and an interesting mechanic, love to see a nicely put together puzzle game. I am not very good at physics, so mainly used my intuition. 2nd level was confusing, thankfully I looked up a hint from the game page and made a П shape then figured out how to use it myself. But I think I am not good at this kind of puzzles enough for this game ;_; I am afraid I need a hint for every level :D Maybe that's a good idea for the future updates: make a "hint" button for stupid players like me :D

jimbly 2023-10-13 00:33

Wow, surprisingly deep for such simple mechanics! I was able to get through all of the levels, and I loved the last level, great way to end. An "undo" (reset 1 step back to before your last mouse click?) would be nice, I often found myself just barely messing up, or pushing something and then realizing what I should have done instead.

justcamh 2023-10-22 02:51

Holy wow amazing amazing game, those levels really encouraged you to build these wacky ass things that just somehow worked, it's amazing how the puzzles had two aspects to them, building it, and using it in weird ways to accomplish your goal. And then whilst accomplishing the goal you'd realise things that were lacking, and be able to make informed changes to your design it such an iterative and logical way! 6/5 stars for sure!

nbumgardner 2023-10-25 02:00

Congrats on finishing the game jam! Having an easier mode with a larger building area would be neat, but the limitation does fit within the puzzling genre and the theme. The friction logic is pretty amazing, it really open up the puzzle possibilities.
