Fun concept and a neat game! Well done!

pengu123 2023-01-09 23:02

Really fun concept, really creative way to tackle the theme.

I really find the idea that you HAVE to plant your own enemies pretty genius.

I really wish you would have feedback on the enemies when you hit them to know you're doing the right thing. I died multiple times because it was very chaotic at times sadly. Though, the different fighting styles for the different fruits and vegetables is really nice :)

Congrats!

artsyomni 2023-01-11 00:52

@Pengu123 Definitely would've liked to add more feedback during combat, but we allotted our time a bit poorly in that regard. I suppose that's game jams for ya!

fullheartgames 2023-01-11 04:16

Awesome game loop!!!

slush 2023-01-11 04:45

Hilarious game and really fun. I love that each plant has its own moveset.

ry-for 2023-01-11 04:52

What kind of monster orders a Grand P.L.T.?

Great stuff guys, really well presented and the gameplay loop was fun!

neilcorre2k6 2023-01-11 05:50

Nice! The time travel came as a surprise to me - in a good way! I like the concept and the enemies are well designed (you can tell when they'll attack). Kudos to the team!

cornflowerblue 2023-01-11 19:24

Loving the idea of planting the enemies you fight, I can see some real design potential there. I love the models of the little dudes and the plants you have to fight are cool. Only real issue is that the lack of sound design in a few areas makes it unclear what you or the enemies are doing.

angiemon 2023-01-11 22:15

Awww one of the most creative entries I've seen in a long time!

Where to begin. Graphics, audio, all the details, really lovely! The transition from the music in the apocalyptic future, chef's kiss! (get it?! because KITCHEN)

As others have said, planting your own enemies is a genius idea and twist of this jams stupid theme, lol

I'm very curious where this project could be headed post jam.. :)

If the garden had like a more complex layout (or maye you can even build it with the money you earn from customers?) I imagine that to be really really cool, where you can strategically place the seeds on certain positions to ideally prepare your battleground! (and maybe there's like designated areas where the crops turn "extra good", aka areas the player would normally avoid, haha)

great entry!!

tweekstudios 2023-01-12 02:36

You had me at time travel! This is an amazing concept and the graphics are really, really good! I'm excited to see this become a released g ame!

vrerabek 2023-01-12 16:44

I love the music! Hot it changes when you go throught the portal is very nice touch!

Fun game, I could imagine this as a co-op game.

The combat was kinda unresponsive as I didn't really know if I hit the enemies or when are they hit me.

Overall fun game!

richard-jedlicka 2023-01-12 16:54

Haha funny game. And well done. But quite hard. Art style and music (with that apocalypse sound effect) is great.

The most funny thing is the customers eating in music rhythm 😍😂

PS: the gamepad stick control is inverted (up/down)

jfeeefl 2023-01-12 17:00

Really cool idea! First I didn't read intro before playing. And while I was thinking of how the farming simulation part could be and whether it is awkard to combine restraunt business with farming genre, the moment when I step into the time-travelling portal, it just ... shocked me!

It is quite a good representation of "As you sow, so shall you reap", player take responsibility for their decision. And I think this idea is really amazing and potential!

juzdepeche 2023-01-12 17:07

Woah I see a lot of potential for the future of this game. Your team is really great and you were able to make a really good game together in a short amount of time.

The graphics are really cool, reminds me of Overcook. The adaptive music soundtrack adds a lot to the game.

Congrats to everyone in the team!

bobbo 2023-01-12 17:10

This is SO good. The characters and the enemies' designs and animations... *dystopian chef's kiss* I think you really have a scalable game on your hands here if you were to develop it further. I would love to see some more visual /audio feedback on hitting/getting hit but apart from that, everything was there for me, I don't think you could have done much better in the time frame.

Love love love this entry, 5 stars

chanjohann 2023-01-13 00:56

I come here seeing post about music, and yes THIS GAME STANDS APON IT AND 2 HOURS WAS NOT ENOUGH  I JUST LOVE HOW IMPACTFUL IT IS TO ENTER PORTAL FIRST TIME so simple, so hard and straight to the feelings

kudos for the art style as well, game looks pretty nice, overall simple idea for a game, BUT OH BOY MAKES YOU REMEMBER IT :japanese_goblin:

koboldskeep 2023-01-13 04:49

Very clever, your team did great! I wish there was more strategy to placing seeds.

chairshot-games 2023-01-13 04:49

Really strong entry. As everyone I'm sure has said, planting the enemies is very clever. The art and general mood of the game is exceptional, and I love the switch from the kitchen to the ruined future. I will say I found thecombat a little too hard, I would have liked to be able to swing in a direction independent from the direction I'm moving if that makes any sense.

PS: It may be a random detail, but the door-swinging animation is so damn satisfying.

matank 2023-01-14 05:37

Really cool game! I liked the twist on the plant and harvest idea. The artwork was great and the music really set the mood. I also like the setting and the implication that this guy's job is basically fighting monsters every time a customer orders a dish (I hope the customers appreciate the dedication though I'm not sure they're aware!)

I wonder if anyone managed to beat the super tall sandwich. I got very close but eventually got beaten by a few remaining lettuces.

mr-lazy 2023-01-14 11:09

unique concept...great graphics and concept...cute game and music..great work

upcharlie 2023-01-14 17:11

Really great work here with a fun concept. My only complaint was that the feedback from hitting the enemies wasn't very clear. You built such a solid foundation for a game in a short span of time and it looks and plays nicely!

lookleftstudio 2023-01-14 17:35

This was a very impressive game jam! The only change I would have liked was a bit more feedback when you hit an enemy so that you know when your attacks are connecting. I was very impressed with the amount of detail in the environment and the characters, and I enjoyed that people would come and eat in the background as opposed to just at the bar. I also think it is incredible that Omni Jacala was able to pull of that music in just two hours! I also really appreciated the massive text letting the player know what to do and when. That's perfect for a game jam because you don't want to spend the time reading instructions. It was so nice to be able to just open it up and play. I also think it is great that you can get a team of six people together working on the same game in one weekend. You all crushed this Ludum Dare!

phillip-scott 2023-01-14 17:50

Wow such a nice looking game - especially the future side!

Is there any kind of end? I didn't make it massively far due to the enemies being quite hard (especially the massive sandwich recipe!)

As others have said the lack of feedback from the combat was a little bothersome, as it was not clear that I had to kill them at first.

I kind of devolved to just spamming attack and running around

Things like choosing what seeds to plant on your own, so you can balance the difficulty and the orders would be a nice improvement same with using different kitchen utensils as weapons.

The adaptive music is cool, You got a lot done the the three days

Great work!

sakura-magika 2023-01-14 20:42

well, this was absolutely fantastic! i love how the music shifts to the eerie, far away whistling. what a fun twist on overcooked for this theme! <3

i especially appreciate how the micro-narrative makes so much sense: of course if you could time travel, it makes sense to plant seeds, to to the future when they're ready, harvest them, then take them back in time to serve freshest ingredients to the customer. but, it all goes horrible wrong when the future is a nightmare of mutant plants!

i really really appreciate this kind of thoughtful design, where the mechanics and twist aren't arbitrary, and come together for a cohesive whole.

(i too found the enemies to be rather difficult, maybe having a block or dodge roll would help)

fis 2023-01-14 23:09

This games idea is wonderful. Making the enemy waves depending on how you place the seeds in the garden is a brilliant idea, so you can influence how the difficulty will be as you can separate some from others.

The only thing I wasn't sure about was if I actually hit the enemy or not. If the attacks were depending on the current position and the mouse where it points to would have made the battle system easier (tested on web).

Fine entry!

gotanod 2023-01-15 10:22

Amazing game, cute graphics. A great different approach to the theme. Great job!

chompdev 2023-01-16 02:13

This is the most I've died trying to make a sandwich before :) Wow - this is a very smart concept! I was totally caught off-guard when going through the portal. I'd love to see you guys expand this into a longer game. You could do all sorts of things with traveling to different areas and time periods to be able to grow very specific plants.

Or maybe you start the game in the future when certain foods no longer exist, and you have to time travel back to get the seeds. Maybe you can't bring items back and forth through time, so you need to plant the seeds in the past and defeat a boss to prevent them from destroying the seedlings. And @phillip-scott's idea to swap out or upgrade to new kitchen tools/weapons over time would be amazing!

peachtreeoath 2023-01-16 06:10

Ok, that was very unexpected, and very funny lol. So much lore you just imagine after you step out of the portal and deliver the food.

I really liked how there were consequences to your decisions, even if small. After a while I realized I could position certain enemies apart, like the peppers on the left and the tomatoes on the right for instance. The rolling guys were NASTY though, as I tended to have trouble timing my own rolls against them.

Ultimately, I think the best thing about this game is the contrast to punchline. I loved how the music changed and has a high-pass filter-ish sound to in. Once you exit the portal, everything returns to normal and you hilariously just serve food to the customers. Everything is timed perfectly and the joke is executed well!

hulya 2023-01-17 10:17

Great (pun) name for the game! Oh, I had quite fun playing this game. That cheery tone and the scary one sets the mood so perfectly! This is one joyful-funny game, great work!

kikiriki367 2023-01-17 23:45

I really like the theme and concept, and as you can see that is my professional opinion. Not a single day goes by in the kitchen without me getting assaulted by those pesky onions!

Though i really miss those Iframes that i get in real life after each hit... Since without them these vegetables are always getting the better of me...

coatline 2023-01-19 01:06

Super cute game! I really love the high contrast between the normal world and the time travel world, super awesome. The music is really cute and, again, very well done with the contrast. The planting is a little wonkey and I would like some more feedback (visual/audio) when you are hitting enemies and when you pick up their ingredients. This was actually quite enjoyable, great job!

nikolaj 2023-01-26 03:04

Wow, great job on creating really polished art and gameplay!

My only complaint is that it felt a bit tedious to go drop the seeds and then go slice them. I would have liked maybe a bit more action gameplay.

Overall amazing job!

oadt 2023-01-26 19:01

The first time I traveled to the future it really got me  I liked that the wispering of the song is still playing there. Very cute idea and good execution. I liked the fact that you could basically build your own levels (well as long as you only have to plant paprika, because the rest is moving) Maybe it could be a bit better communicated to the player when they get damage or an enemy gets hit. Great work!
