this plays itself and the cycle is 5 seconds, im sure you can improve it
EDIT: looks like I was playing a very outdated version of the game
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD51 → Jumprope

hey bro, here's some problem like that: 500 Server Error - An internal server error occured.
I had a negative score but nice one
To avoid negative score, jump at the right time :)
Good idea, but you need to show a player, if he jumps succsesfuly or not
quite interesting, but the game didn't communicate bad (like what do I need to do? Am I doing it right? What happens every 10 second? It was just a bit unclear). When you get those, it's fun :)
Great idea and game, just show the feedback the the rope hits the player. and it will be enough.
I think it's the first game I've played that gets easier the faster it goes. I got up to 690 and stopped. Wasn't sure if it just keeps going forever.
Neat game, it seems from the comments you are making updates on it, keep it up! Maybe calculate score in a more straightforward manner though.
I liked it. It's true that it got easier as I played on though, up until about 790 points or so
Simple but nice game
Interesting take on the theme:)
It could really use a fail state, and some kind of twist or development in the game besides just getting faster
nice game simple gameplay loop. it would be better if the player was given feedback.
very simple and cute game. My high score is 577...nice entry
I like the concept and the gameplay feels very responsive. The text on my screen was positioned slightly behind the character, which made it a bit hard to see at first. An end state might be nice as well (maybe when the score gets below 0?). Its very nice, and I think the sprite is pretty cute.
what if buddy's legs got more big as they jump more rope
I like visual style. Great Job!
This game is as laconic and quintessential as your comments! So simple a concept as pressing the spacebar in time becomes so complex once the accelerating is added. Having to find the rhythm again every ten seconds is genuinely challenging. I'm impressed, this game achieves a great deal while doing very little. It is hard not to wish for a some more ambition, however. Maybe just some music or something to make it a more complete package. I also wonder if it ever ends. I got up well over 1000 points before I gave up. Even with such a minimalistic concept, it still needs some end state to be truly complete, in my opinion.
Really like how responsive the controls were and my faults felt pretty deserved. I enjoyed the simplicity of the concept.
Liked the look (cool UI / theme / graphics) and the sound effects. Felt like a bit of music would go a long way.
Had fun playing for a while but wished it had an ending.
One thing I **really** liked was I could jump during the intro / initial countdown and start off with a negative score. I appreciated the game punishing me for being impatient no clue why I just did
A fun and short game that just delivers on what it wants to do. You just get into a sort of trance when you get the right timing which feels really good.
The game is quite funny, albeit very short :) The process is quite pleasant. Nice try!
Fun little game!
Love the whole concept :D Great game.
Pretty simple, but a nice take on the theme
Brutal! Pixel perfect jumping is tough, but you succeeded at creating a challenge. My score wasn't even worth screen capture. Good work, congrats on submitting for compo!
A nice one, dude!
10 out of 10. But wanna pixel font as well.
Years of playing the jump rope mini game in Final Fantasy IX have prepared me for moments like this.
A couple of things I wanted to point out. * Initially the timer counts down , but the rope isn't moving, but you still lose score if you jump. The first time playing, I pressed the jump button to see it visually occur, but lost score. So I was starting at a negative balance just for learning the controls * As the speed increases, the amount of score you lose by just not jumping decreases. I'm guessing it's done by detection for when the rope is red, which is less time as the speed is increased. * The score goes negative, so there seems to be no actual lose condition.
@aristurtle thanks for playing, each of your statements are correct. I used the animator for the jump rope detection which led to bugs I could not figure out how to correct so I just left it as is.
This was a short, sweet, and compact experience. I really enjoyed it, and I agree with others that it first started feeling more frantic as it sped up, but then I realized it was sort of getting easier. I experimented a bunch with how low down the rope should be before jumping and noticed that the line just got higher as the rope sped up. I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing, but if you wanted to do away with it, you could add a negative condition for if you jump too late. It could be a cooldown on jumping, adding a second rope that comes not too long afterward so you need to jump in succession, or maybe just make it move fast enough that it comes back around quickly.
I also agree with everything @aristurtle said, and I also jumped before the rope started moving to see if anything would happen and got punished for it. Maybe add a conditional in the function changes your score that checks if the game has started yet? Or in the function that performs the jump to keep you from jumping before the rope starts moving? Just some ideas.
This gave me traumatic flashbacks to Mario Odyssey, which in turn gave me traumatic flashbacks to Final Fantasy IX. Good entry, but jump the rope mini games have scarred me forever xD
Managed to get 1414 highscore haha. Super cute and fun little game!
i like when games revolve around a minimalistic yet killer idea! as soon as i was getting used to a tempo, it accelerated and got me lost again. finally managed to get past the 1000 high score!
it was a fun and clever and original game, especially for a compo!
Cool game. I really like the pixel art style. The game is fun and works well for the jam's theme. Nice work.
Nice arts. Cute sounds. A bit repetitive but what else to expect... it is jump rope! ;) Well done.
Simple, but fun
