@jeppetp Thanks for the feedback! I guess we should have make something to prevent this kind of thing. Well, our game could really benefit for more polish, but we finished it minutes before the deadline. That's some ludum dare fun!
This game looks and feels beautiful! It took me a moment to figure out the controls, but they were ncie when I got them. Although I wish I could use keyboard instead of the mouse.
I don't think I've ever seen a game with watercolor aesthetics before. It's really well executed. I like your idea of having the main character be a vague over-the-shoulder silhouette. The music is amazing!
The writing is lovely, but I didn't get that much story out of it. I didn't really figure out a concrete plot, if there is one - maybe it's meant to be more of a poetic thing? I also skipped reading a bunch of the fish.
Either way, well done!
@asbjorn thank you! There's no real plot, just something about stars and motion. I guess it's more a mood experience than a real scenario. But I'm glad you've enjoyed it!
What a poetic game, it is nice to relax to after the hectic rush of finishing a game jam.
Tres zen et intrigant à la fois. Bonne ambiance ! j'ai pêché un demi sablier , de nombreuse variété de poisson et une vielle botte (pwerk). je ne sais pas si il y a une fin, j'en ai pourtant pêché un certain nombre!
I was a little caught off guard by the game, but in a good way. Out of all the games that have popped off for this jam, this is by far the most relaxing and least stressful one *chefs kiss*
@nbumgardner Thanks! Having a little relaxing time is quite good after a game jam indeed. I'm happy you enjoyed it.
@roroto-sic Il y a trois chapitres, et il aurait suffit d'un objet de plus pour que tu puisses passer au second. Quoi qu'il en soit, si l'ambiance t'as plu, c'est le principal !
@peebabubber Thanks! Yeah, I feel that the theme induced some really stressful games this time.
I never thought that the two topics could be combined. Great game.
Very nice art style, great sounds/music. I really enjoyed playing it :)
Beautiful art and atmospheric music/Beautiful drawing and atmospheric music! Special praise for the fonts, they are perfectly readable! Special praise for the fonts, they are perfectly readable!
Loving the vibes this game gives
This was so relaxing and peaceful. The Aquarell-Aesthetics really befit a fishing game (and it just looks really pretty)
wonderfully simple, addictive game.
Beautiful drawing and relaxing music! I like it!
@pusheeneiro @thatzniko @eugenik Thanks you !
@faust-mi I really love Velvetyne fonts, they are original and pretty. And IM Fell English is an old school but super readable font. I highly recommend them for any text if you need "classy/classic feel".
@ingo-holle Thanks! Watercolor for fishing in water, I did'nt even thought about it! :D
@lukas0842 and @oleksandra Thanks! I'm pretty happy with the graphic and sound design of the game, so I'm glad you enjoyed it. The postwork on the music recording is not really good, but I did'nt have enough time for it. That's the ludum dare experience, I guess!
I love this! The graphics are so unique and they fit the music really well. I love the designs of the fish. I feel like I want to keep playing just to see everything I can catch. Great job!
I like the art and music especially. This is a relaxing, meditative experience, good job!
As everyone, loved the graphic design plus the music, the mood is clearly here. The gameplay is well executed it was pleasant at first however I was in the third location and it became a bit redundant. Two "bugs": there was some "fish" that I could not catch sometimes it was because they went right and even by clicking left could not get back, and other time they just escaped despite the cursor having always been in the middle. Overall, bien ouej.
Caught me by surprise in a good way, I liked the different scenes, the watercolor lent itself really well to the dreamy vibe. It's a nice change for a fishing mechanic to not require constant button pressing.
Nice fonts, graphics and atmosphere. I liked playing it, though haven't seen the ten seconds mechanic
This game is super cool. I love the vibe. The fishing mechanics are nice. I only wish the theme was more involved. Great game!
This game is a huge vibe, great work pulling everything together! "Pond Wanderer" was actually my nickname in high school...
@keenan-woodall and @galaxybat thank you!
@vimmagic oooh that's nice! I guess we've reached our goal if some people finds the game that enjoyable. :-)
@tatawanda Merci ! Yeah, we've finished the game right before the deadline, I'm not surprised to hear that there are some bugs.
@pfannkuchen The theme is only in the lore/scenario, no in the mecanics. And the theme did not imply that it has to be use in game mechanics. :D Glad you enjoyed the atmosphere!
@jeff-kerman Thanks! I'm happy you enjoyed it, we've put some effort in the vibe/mood of this little thing. And yeah, the theme is only present in the object/fish descriptions and chapter introductions. We really didn't want to use it as a game mechanic.
@ccollider I guess that in a way, we made the game for you! :D
I enjoyed this so much!!! I really hope you come back to work on it after the jam because I would love to see this with some more time put into it something where I could sink a few hours maybe? anyways I loved the art and sound design and cant wait to see what you do next!
@fawny-breen Ow thanks! I really can't assure you that we will spend more time on the game. In the past, every time we said we'd do it, we couldn't find time to do so.
@chocolat-endive completely understandable! I can relate, if you don't end up expanding on it I guess i'll just have to wait for your next game then lol
@fawny-breen We tend to make peaceful or narrative games, so maybe you'll enjoy our next one!
You guys absolutely nailed the mood here. Such a calming vibe you made with this!
Atmospheric reminds me very much of fishing in shenmue. Great submission
I feal peaceful
a such a calm feeling playing this game, loved the experience.
This is a great example how a simple idea can really be elevated with visual style, short story and a soundscape. If the game wouldn't have any of those elements in place, I probably would have put it down almost immediately. But this kept me hooked (ha ha) for a while!
Great work! I enjoyed this!
Wow that was a great relax! I loved the graphics. Great job, wonderful project!
I really like your unique style of watercolour and ink art. Especially the different fish and items that are caught, it gives me a desire to not only collect fish, but to see more different kinds of paintings.
The game as a whole is very easy and simple (which I really enjoyed). The narration between each level with the background music created a mysterious atmosphere and made me feel like I was participating in the main character's journey.
The game was also very smooth to play, I didn't encounter any bugs and I thought the narrative fishing game was very well done and polished. For me it was a really fun gaming experience.
It was fun to try and catch a few fishes. The watercolor styled art is very cool, and the game mechanics are well done and effective.
@mhorth @austin-sierra @akacmd @fattori @kuboxxxxx We focused a lot on the mood and atmosphere of the game. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
@nash Thank you! I was not sure at first about the balance between the different elements, but I guess it works! Thank you for your feedback.
@bluesand oooh that's nice! I don't consider myself as a really good 2d artist, but I'm super happy you enjoyed it! I guess that putting some effort into making the art coherent in the whole game works! Thanks a lot, it's super cool to see people enjoying our little game.
@goosegarden I'm happy to see that people enjoy the gameplay. Thanks!
Beautiful atmosphere. I was lost for a moment and then I was found again, with a boots and fish and all sorts of wonderful treats. Just the relaxing dive I needed. Well done :)
Amazingly crafted game. Really reminded me of Journey. Truly beautiful and breathtaking piece of art. The mechanic of fishing and clicking left and right with the mouse was simple yet incredibly engaging. The watercolor and ink drawings are serene and mix perfectly with the sound and music. The world building collectables description were superbly written. The story was extremely touching and felt like poetry. Fantastic job!
I really liked the watercolor art style. You made the mechanic of reeling in the fish really feel like a fish is on the line fighting you. Great atmosphere!
The game runs very well in Safari browser, no stuttering or anything. The animations are smooth and precise, the background music compliments the overall them spot on. Art style is beautifully done with the use of watercolors, it too compliments the mood of the game entirely. Great descriptions of the found items, especially like the dark humor which leaves some sort of hopelessness. As a recreational sportsfisherman I think you nailed the feeling of tranquility you get when fishing like this. Also, the mechanic of throwing the worst possible throw, still makes it possible to catch something, but harder to keep the "ball balanced". Well thought out.
What is left to be desired. A little more nature ambience. I like the use of sound effects. In style with the otherworldly fish, other entities could be in the scene. While I like the simplicity of the character, I would love to see something equally colorful in watercolors. I think this could work well with the theme.
This game is nothing short of amazing. Its well rounded and balanced, and with the time given, Im very impressed with your creativity and skills :)
@freerunner & @zungryware You know what? I've never done any fishing in my life, so I'm super happy if the game is OK for people who actually do knows what it's like to fish. :D
I have not been able to test the game on safari, but I'm happy it works without issue. For the sound design, and ambient noises, I 100% agree with you. We did'nt have enough time for it, and it was actually quite difficult to record the few water sound FX with my phone. I really think about purchasing some kind of recording equipment, it could be really fun to do some field recording during a ludum dare.
@paul-avallone Oh, thank you so much! Writing some stuff took a good amount of work, and Bouteille has made some wonderful work translating everythin in english, so we're pretty happy to see people enjoying this part of the game.
@levi We all need some relaxing games sometimes! Glad you enjoyed it!
@chocolat-endive I've fished like five times in my life and all when I was a kid. So I'm not *that* experienced. But it does evoke the feeling as I remember it.
Love the artwork guys! And the sound and music are equally chill – perfect vibe matching. Nice quiet calming game for the evening
I really really liked the art in this one, really atmospheric. Fantastic job on that. I felt the fishing was a bit monotonous, not unlike regular fishing! I liked the little bits of story text on the items but they were a bit hard to read with the size. Good job!
A very beautiful game! The audio was a bit too loud I think, but it sounded nice when I turned my speakers down a little :)
What an experience, definitely one of my favorites from this jam! I'm usually not a fan of fishing (mini)games but this was truly something else, I was casting my rod with great anticipation of what I will find next. Starting off casually (but a bit off) you really nailed the feeling of slowly unraveling the foundation of reality itself. When I got to the last stage all I could do was stare at it for a moment.
The soundtrack and the painterly style work really well to create the setting, and the tactical writing is very well executed as well. I had a single technical issue where I would start fishing before closing the image of the previous one which was a bit confusing but a minor annoyance at worst. Beautiful game!
the mood of this game is incredible!hsdsg.JPG (rate back?)
@zungryware 5 times is enough to kwnow what fishing is like IRL. :D
@rdawg7 I'm happy you enjoyed the game!
@nardandas Yeah, I'm really not 100% happy with the UI. And the inventory texts/windows are far from perfect. But well, we finished the games minutes before the deadline, so we did'nt have time for adjusting it. Thanks for your feedback!
@cosmonautical Yeah, we could add some kind of volume sliders, it would be a nice addition indeed. Thanks you!
@bqq Oooh, thank you! I'm super happy you enjoyed the writing, it took us a lot of work to make something coherent, and english is not our first language so we had to translate everything. There are indeed several little bugs were we can cast the line when we're not supposed to. Sorry you encountered one of them.
@projectcolorball Thanks! And you don't have to *fish* for ratings (pun intended), I'll try your game tomorrow, and you already have more than the 20 ratings you need too see your score at the end. Just rating and leaving feedback to others is enough to have people play and rate your game. Anyway, thank you, and I'll play your game tomorrow. :-)
What a beautiful game. For someone who said you didnt even have the full amount of time to make the game you did something incredible the water colour pain pallet and the simplistic design. The Atmosphere provided by the paint and the audio is amazing. Its so serene and calming to just fish in this game I cant give more credit to the artist and audio team here it comes together so well, (Which I looked and its just two of you. Amazing.)
Truly a wonderful experience. I really enjoyed reading all the fun little item descriptions you wrote, and you managed to keep the minigame just involved enough to engage me without spoiling the peaceful and sombre atmosphere you created. Amazing work considering you didn't have the full three days, one of my favourite games of this jam
Thanks @kitkii and @caladrius for your feedback! I'm supper happy that you enjoyed the "art" and "mood" of the game. The way we did things is that I worked on the art (2d and music) while Bouteille was working on the code and balancing of the game. A two people team is a good way to have a coherent result, when you know each other, and when you know how to work together.
At least, it seems to have worked for us, this time. :D Thanks again!
Incredible art and audio, it's very relaxing game. Thank you!
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1620821516?t=00h00m33s Hey! I replayed the game on my last stream and I think I was just in the right mood for it, it was really really nice, even better than the first time! I think I kinda appreciated the presentation even more!
@durkagames thank you!
@nardandas Oooh, thank you so much for playing the game on stream! I was afraid that you were going to stop the game while you just needed one more object to trigger the ending. :D
Btw, you almost played it in "hard mode", that's why so many fish escaped in the last chapter. You have to target the green part of the fishing gauge on the left when you cast the line, and then it's easier to catch the fish. It's explained in the tutorial, but it's not really clear in-game.
Thanks a lot, and I'm happy you enjoyed the art and music. I guess the weirdness of the whole thing is because of me. :D
Awesome job! Such heart and mood in this one, great art combined with the theming fit the fishing game setup really well!
Very relaxing. Sounds and looks fantastic. I really like the atmosphere it builds up. Maybe those story beats don't mean anything, maybe they do, but either way they certainly create a mood. Did not expect that when first starting the game. Does seem weird to pull those poor spirits out of the water! But I enjoyed getting the artefacts and progressing the story. You got a lot done for one person too, with several music tracks especially impressing me. The gameplay itself I suppose is fairly simple and not a big change from common fishing game mechanics but you dressed it up well with all this stuff. Really nice work!
@wetburritosupreme Thanks!
@ava-skoog I'm happy that you enjoyed the game. And we were a two in the team, but it was indeed quite a challenge to make this little game in 3 days. Thanks!
i caught a bit of every fish, i'm on my way to make sushis now, i can share, i have kilos and kilos of fish ahah
Really enjoy the art and sound design, also very relaxing atmosphere.
Really this is great all around outside I'm not sure there was a point to catching items other than just a calm fishing experience? Controlled really well though I imagine Mac users and others with one button input devices had a difficult time playing (lesson learned from my own projects), I'd suggest a key bind maybe.
In general, a very relaxing game that I like!
@enderswype Have a nice meal! :D
@goateejoe Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the game.
@simplepotential Oh that's actually a very good advice. We didn't think about it at all. That's something we'll keep in mind for our future games.
I'm so glad I remembered to check this out before rating is over!
An amazingly atmospheric and philosophical game. As with your previous creation, I love the watercolour-style graphics. I adore all the little fish designs and their descriptions. This world you've built and offered a glimpse into is so fascinating. The gameplay is simple and really supports the story. I'm curious what goes on under the hood in terms of the probability of catching fish, I nearly gave up on Chapter II because I seemed to have the fish escape more than ten times in a row. It feels like sitting calm and not fishing seemed to "fix" that? But maybe it was just me reading into it.
Incredibly touching game.
Oooh thanks @hekateras for your feedback! For the probability: each time you cast the line, there is some randomization and a fish or an object is chosen. For every fish/object, there's a timer, and then you have to manage to catch the fish before the end of the timer.
You may have encountered some kind of bug, it seems unlikely to have a fish escaping ten times in a row. We did'nt have time to really test the game before releasing it so that's a real possibility.
I'm super glad you've enjoyed the game, your feedback means a lot to me, since I've really enjoyed your LD entries (project memory is one of the best and most interesting LD games I've ever played).
