Fun game! Didn't actually win any game in the 4 time I played but it was still fun, Never seen someone make a card game before!

widdershin 2022-04-04 15:11

Super cool, played a round in Tabletop Simulator. There are some really subtle and interesting interactions, especially around the special moves on JQKA. Would love to see this as a game or automated in TTS.

ambear 2022-04-04 15:22

Overplayed everybody

asmadigames 2022-04-04 16:16

@widdershin Thanks! Yeah, I'm happy with the amount of little neat tactics you can use. Was inspired a bit by hearing how Regicide used a standard 52-card deck so well to create a reasonably complex experience.

This is the first time I've been able to effectively test a table top submission. I love that you have some simple to follow instructions and just a standard deck of cards. I really think my grandfather might of enjoyed this game (he was a pretty avid solitaire player).

You should look into getting the game printed up with a specialized deck or something, I could see people buying it. I didn't win any of the games but I think it is mechanically sound and I probably would win if I kept playing (and I might)

Nice job!

This game is pretty cool. I've played Regicide and it definitely reminded me a bit of that. It's kind of neat how once you get a spade ability it increases your hand size permanently. Makes me really want those early. Unless I'm mistaken - I'll only get to play 4 hearts total the whole game (J, Q, A) so if I want a good score I really need to keep the advantage down load the whole time. My highest score was 31. It's interesting that getting a good score means optimizing around not wasting your advantages like not healing when there's nothing in discard or not using clubs when the advantage pile is really small.

Like it, with great art cards i would even buy it.

asmadigames 2022-04-04 18:10

@candlesan Yeah, my first iteration had the special abilities go off on EVERY card play and that was way too much, and I definitely like the emergent nature of the spades raising your hand size over the course of the game :)

@SimplePotential Glad you got to try one! I think it's neat that LD allows tabletop games alongside the digital, and I'm glad this thing I whipped up is giving people some enjoyment!

Got a score of 25. Enjoyed playing it. Only issue I had was with understanding how Advantage worked at first, but after starting a game and stepping through the rules it became clear. Had a fun little interaction where I wanted the top discard card, and after playing a Jack of hearts realized that I wouldn't get it because the discarded Advantage cards took it's place.

Good job on a making a card game. Have done a couple of them myself and the hardest part is making sure the rules are easy to parse, but you did a good job avoiding that issue here.

Well this sure is interesting. Honestly making a game without code, art, or music, and still managing to come up with something this fun and engaging is quite a feat! Not only that, it's also single player. Very good job on this. I'm honestly super impressed. I wonder if you're considering updating this with more rules one day, maybe multiplayer? That'd be really cool, I have a lot of friends who are super in to board games and they'd love something like this. Anyways, good stuff.

Cool game, nice to see tabletop submissions

firescape-games 2022-04-05 01:37

Nice game. The instructions are easy to follow which is always great! Also, the fact that its a card game using a standard deck of cards but is also so unique is amazing. Great job!

benjijump 2022-04-05 02:48

Very interesting take on the theme. While the instructions are clear enough, some diagrams or graphics to clarify would be very helpful with the accessibility. I love the idea in which you are trying to maintain balance between two factions through mini-skirmishes. An unique and well thought-out piece overall

*Some other font than Futura for the bodytext would enhance the legibility imo ;)

ollie-d 2022-04-05 07:12

Interesting to see a card game submission. Pretty clever stuff and I like that anybody with a deck of cards can play

asmadigames 2022-04-05 18:23

Thanks everyone for the feedback! If people do like it a lot, I might explore expanding it a bit to a proper game, it's fun to see that the balancing act is compelling and interesting for folks.

mwillsey 2022-04-05 21:15

Great take on the theme! You really feel the inevitable coming while playing.

milq 2022-04-05 23:01

Wow! I didn't expect it, a card game! The truth is that I am hoping that you can implement it in a game and give it a commercial success, let us know please!

jeffrey-hwang 2022-04-06 20:38

Was the game taken down? I only see the pdf rule book

asmadigames 2022-04-06 22:21

It's a game designed for a standard 52-card deck of cards :)

jimbly 2022-04-08 01:03

Great game, really enjoyed it! My score was 30, but I feel like I got really lucky (zero advantage at the end!). After completing the game, I did the obvious thing, and began a game of War between the two factions (using their skirmish decks). As expected, after about 10 times through the deck, the war was no closer to ending than when it began, so I gave up.

asmadigames 2022-04-08 13:51

Some say the factions are still at war to this day...

aggrathon 2022-04-09 20:05

I've always been intrigued by these "analogue" games, but they usually require a printer or multiple people. Creating a solitaire with only a regular deck of cards is a great idea! With five cards on hand there is a suitable amount of planning involved, especially with the special abilities. I got 25 and 31.

subcreation 2022-04-10 22:21

Nice, I got 34! Really tight ruleset, very elegant in its simplicity, with the fun added flavor of the special abilities. Impressive entry!

sibi 2022-04-16 13:14

I only managed to get 28. Everything was going well but then in the last few moves I really screwed up the balance and everything escalated. Awesome to see a pure card game that everyone can play with just a deck of cards. Every move felt like I was making meaningful decisions and the theme was well captured. Great entry!

jackaljk 2022-04-17 19:18

This is fun and engaging, I love that you can play it with common poker cards! I've managed to win by 36 on my first try so I guess you erred on the side of easy but then again I had a (lucky? I played spades as soon as possible so I had a big hand) streak of very close or equal cards on both colors. I really like the special actions, wish there were more and that some had simultaneously a big bonus and a big malus. Great job!

asmadigames 2022-04-22 00:29

Thanks again so much for all the feedback, it's been fun joining in on LD50 after having watched it on streams in past years :)
