Simple and good fun, I always love tactical games so fun to hold the lines and fight enemy's only issue I see is that is there any reason to not just sit near the capital so you can instant heal? overall good music, solid graphics the single movement is tad clunky but overall funz
Hello! The game is a bit slow. I like the concept but the stats are really little to read.
It looks nice and I like the audio. The attack/defense labels on enemies could have been bigger, because this way either a lot of time of my gameplay goes to zooming in and out or I am clicking blindly on enemies
Really cool game you made there! I featured it in part one of my let's play series: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YpXlNnSS0s (of course you already saw that but, as a Youtuber, I just have to spam a tiny bit ^^)
@thomas-higgins Thanks! Yeah, I guess there isn't much point to move far from the castle. I have a few ideas about that, so there might be a post-LD version coming. ;) I agree on the single movement part, I'll have to figure out a nice way of dealing with that to make it less tedious.
@sagiii Hey! Thanks for playing! I agree, in hindsight I should have ramped up enemy spawning much earlier to reduce the waiting by a lot. And I didn't spend a lot of time on the stats, I left them like this because I thought I'd add a fullscreen mode, but kinda forgot about it in the end. :|
@stamestratagem Thanks! I'll probably figure out a way to scale up the enemy UI when you hover on them, that should help with this problem. ;)
@erkberg Thanks! No worries, I look forward to watching you play more LD games. ;)
I got the hang of the gameplay pretty fast, the only thing I wish it had was a bit of visual progression. It's easy to get into a flow of clicking and forgetting about my health.. if the enemies started looking scarier, I'd remember to check their stats before charging in for a fight :) Decent compo entry!
I like these types of games a lot, I agree with a lot of the advice given here. I personally was wanting from the glance of the game more strategical depth, instead of having to hug the center. Maybe adding things varying move hexs (like can move with a range 3)/enemy health. Or when you level up you could choose want to increase move hex by 1? Increase Damage? Increase Attack power? Clarity was a big thing cause your zoomed out a lot and had to stop and check a lot and became a chore. Good job it has a lot of potential, would like to see the post-LD version for sure!
Really cool strategy game. You don't usually see games like these in game jams so it is nice to play a strategy game. Really like the progression in the game really made me feel powerful later in the game. Hexagons are the bestagons! Good Job!
I really like the fact that this game is turn based. It makes the pressure to get back to the castle feel much more specific, as it will literally take a fixed number of turns to get from where you are to the castle.
I did end up trying to stay near the castle, of course, but I feel like you can't stay right at the castle--because then enemies will be able to come right up to the castle as well. Instead you need to fight enemies a few tiles away from the castle. And that's where that pressure to get back comes from, I think.
Now I did end up losing because I literally just went after an enemy who would kill me in one hit. I suppose I ended up sort of just mindlessly clicking on enemies, as my strategy. I think having a different sprite for each enemy would go a long way, so that the player doesn't fall into this mindless playing pattern.
But overall, it was a fun game with that made good use of the turn based mechanics.
Really nice base for a strategy game! Ended up just hugging the castle and clicking at random enemies - would be nice to have some incentive to move around the map (upgrades? multiple castles?). Good job!
This was really well made! I enjoyed the turn based tactics and I figured out how to play pretty much instantly. This seems like a really good candidate to continue to expand into a full game.
Wow, great job! The gameplay works well and what is especially impressive, it is super easy to understand! Also you stay consistent in your visual style and the sounds don't get boring immediately. So, very well done!
Cool game! Really well polished, especially for Compo. My two suggestion would be: the walking sound effect gets a bit too repetitive with the amount of walking the player does, and healing with the castle is too over power. Maybe have some percent of max player health that the castle should heal instead of all of it. Anyway, great job!

I ran into an enemy that killed me in one hit with 30HP.
Thank you for the audio sliders! Nice work for a compo game.
It didn't seem like there were many reasons to wander far away from the castle.
Really solid Compo entry! You have a lot of the core mechanics there and they work really well. Outside of having the strategy element be a bit deeper, I think it would really benefit from some character art and basic attack animations just to give it that extra bit of personality. Awesome job though!
I really liked your turn-based mechanics and especially strategic battles. Music and art is fine. I could only wanted to progress faster with more enemies.
Nice idea and main gameplay mechanic, the problem for me was that the best way to play is to camp near the castle and kill enemies/heal yourself all the time. More variety or maybe some quests or something which will force you away from the castle could have really spiced the things up.
Controls are great! I've seen so many mouse based controls that are annoying. The art is fine. It's clear and functional, but I guess it could be prettier. Interesting idea but I guess it get's a bit simple after a while. Maybe different enemies or something would have made it more long-lasting. Nice entry overall :) Why can't I play it on full screen on browser? I have a big display and it would be way more nice to play it on fullscreen instead of a tiny embed :(
Hey @lcstark !
It’s nice to see you keep up with Ludum Dare!
Congrats to your entry! You have created a small nice little game here. The aim is clear, but I missed some upgrades, since it has this tactical character. Keep up the creation!
Very well polished game, easy to understand and play. Also, hexagons are the bestagons!
