Interesting game idea!

Dropbox does not work in my area, maybe try itch.io next time?

powerspark 2022-04-05 01:19

Not sure how to play with keyboard? Is there keyboard support?

zoomieroomie 2022-04-05 02:01

Hey, thank you for checking in.

@lighty-the-light HTML5 Version on itch.io is not working yet for some reason. If possible I will update our submission with a link tomorrow.

@powerspark Keyboard Controls are as follows: WASD - Movement

Space - Dash

Left Click (hold) - Pull Ability

Right Click - Push/Stun Ability

powerspark 2022-04-05 02:07

Thanks for the controls! Played it and survived 40 seconds. Thought it was pretty fun and well balanced. The screen shake made it a tiny bit hard to see things well. Other than that awesome work

zoomieroomie 2022-04-05 10:14

@powerspark That is absolutely amazing to hear. Thank you very much for taking the time to check it out.

Will do some playing of other entries today to see the amazing things everybody else has done.

roughskin 2022-04-05 17:00

Great game! Loved the soundtrack!!!

jni 2022-04-05 17:05

Really cool game. The graphics are simple but look very polished and well composed. The gameplay is really smooth and fluent. The only thing I disliked are the screen shake effects. They make sense, but they are a bit extreme towards the end of a round.

autogibbon 2022-04-05 17:13

That's some funky music!

Mechanics easily understood at a glance and felt good. I appreciate the addition of the chaser, forcing me to move around the play space instead of hiding in a corner where the infected can't see my herd.

Only thing I felt was missing from the core gameplay was some sounds relating to my abilities and the little dudes getting infected.

Great job guys/gals!

chocolat-endive 2022-04-05 17:13

On the html version, the controller did'nt seems to work. Your game is really polished, there is not much to say about it! It would be nice to have more levels, random bonuses, different music, but hey, it's a jam game, we can't have everything! Bonus point for the volume slider, it's always nice to have one!

The only issue I have seen is in the tutorial menu: it does'nt explain keyboard and mouse control, and there's a "next" button at the end of the tutorial that don't do anything: we have to click multiple times on "previous" to go back to the menu.

jasontherand 2022-04-05 17:14

Great Job! I got up to 46 seconds.

I like the music a lot, and the feel of trying to frankly save everyone is well done. It is a tough balance between avoiding the chaser and trying to save people. Every time I focused too much on one the other got me. I wish there was some visual representation for the ability cooldowns, but that is not super important.

P.S. on an Xbox controller the left analog stick can only move left and right, not up and down.

andre-sadie 2022-04-05 17:14

This was pretty fun and challenging. For such a basic concept there's actually a bit of strategy. Really enjoyed the music and it fits the game well. I think the actual game lacks some audio feedback though. A leaderboard or randomized levels would have added a lot of replayability. The really liked the clean minimalist art style. Good job with the entry!

2022-04-05 21:05

Damn.. maybe I´m infected now! ^^ Can´t rate.. sorry!

zoomieroomie 2022-04-05 21:25

Thank you guys so much for the very helpful and also flattering feedback.

This Jam was an amazing experience and kind of rekindled my passion for game making. Hopefully I'll have the means to act on that motivational momentum.

str8griz 2022-04-06 02:42

Really tight controls to the game, I love that. The pacing was good and the dynamics were a lot more complex then I originally thought they were going to be>

Great job!

orangedragon 2022-04-06 08:59

Good game! Gameplay is really tight and fun, controls are smooth and responsive. Thanks for your amazing game! My best time is 81 seconds :)

raphaeltan 2022-04-06 11:19

Very cool the game looks good but the tutorial is a pain. Please try to include it into gameplay next time

okamit 2022-04-06 11:20

Good little game with neat mechanics making for a fun gameplay experience! I enjoy the balance and the simplistic graphics, with a great palette.

Would be fun to play with different stages that force you to strategise in different ways and maybe different types of enemies!

Good work, hope you continue making games!

polymathld 2022-04-06 11:24

Pretty innovative game concept! Never seen something quite like this before. Interesting take on the arena/arcade game genre.

seppskit 2022-04-06 12:09

Thank you for your feedback @okamit . we actually had more ideas, but there was not enough time to implement them. We had to deal with basic stuff first as beginners.

okamit 2022-04-06 12:33

@seppskit I understand! Would love to see you continue working on it after the jam!

conduit-games 2022-04-06 16:07

Thank you for providing the volume slider! The music was definitely funky and great, but that's a feature that should be in every game by default.

I was playing on keyboard + mouse and found the controls to be confusing. I'm very pleased to see a tutorial in-game, but that was tailored to controller players.

This is a quick experience and it was enjoyable. Cool stuff!

lootgrounds 2022-04-06 16:08

Good job. I liked the idea, it fits the theme of jam very well. The visual part is just as nice!

jason-pitchford 2022-04-06 23:48

Loved The idea, the music was really nice to go with the game.

100th-coin 2022-04-07 01:41

The idea is super cool, and wow is it tough. (maybe I'm just bad) but I wasn't ever able to last more than 30 seconds, ha! The music fit really well! nice game.

bios3008 2022-04-07 13:44

great game

noef 2022-04-07 18:59

The Music is realy amazing

trigrab 2022-04-07 19:02

This game is addictive.

ethereal 2022-04-07 19:06

awesome game, the music aswell!

its really challenging to save those poor orbs, and i keep letting them down :(

i think the screenshake is a little bit too much; my eyes are still shaking while i write this comment :D

finn-pickart 2022-04-08 11:33

I love the game. It's really fun and the music is so catchy

janniz 2022-04-08 16:43

Wow, cool idea! And really fun to play! I love it's simplistic design and the color choices, also the game mechanics are easy to master but it's still challenging. In the end I lasted 204 seconds. Great job!

neon-orbis 2022-04-10 00:18

I really enjoyed this game. I liked the concept and the interpretation of the theme. Though the game is very challenging, the tight controls, fun gameplay and great music keeps you coming back for more. Well done!

itsboats 2022-04-10 21:57

Really cool idea and execution! I love the clean, minimal aesthetic. You have a few simple mechanics that go well together to create a simple and engaging game.

pros: -awesome style -great visual communication for abilities and when things get turned. The stun cooldown showing on the player is great was to show the cooldown while avoiding clutter on the UI -easily replayable game with simple mechanics that is easy to get into, but hard to master. I only managed 62 seconds, but I see someone got 204 :o

cons: -screen shake is excessive, I think it should be removed from when a unit gets turned and maybe only have screen shake when the player uses the knockback/stun ability -UI doesn't scale with screen size so it does weird things when zooming (web version) -(minor) the last screen of the tutorial has a back button but doesn't do anything, and the text for the controls doesn't have consistent spacing from the line -Sometimes I got stuck on the tiles. I think just having those middle parts be a large rotated square could help make movement more smooth, and improve the visuals too

ardorugus 2022-04-11 07:58

This is actually very cool bacteria survival/dasher! Once you get into it, may stuck for a while, appeasingly.

zoomieroomie 2022-04-11 08:04

@itsboats

That is great feedback. Thank you very much.

I am personally currently planning what an expansion on the base idea could look like. It would most likely go more in the direction of a rogue-lite instead of a mere arcade game and I might ditch the minimalist style in favour of something else ...but only time will tell :D

One last question... Is it boats?

@janniz That is an impressive time!

@neon-orbis @finn-pickart @ethereal @trigrab @noef @bios3008 @100th-coin @jason-pitchford @lootgrounds @conduit-games thank you all for your kind words and feedback. You guys are continuously boosting my motivation for further exploration of the idea.

lemonscripts 2022-04-14 16:50

Very cool game! But i think the camera shake is bit too much , other than that i like the intense music and style of the game. Keep up the good work!

tornadopiggie 2022-04-18 23:53

Interesting game. It's quite difficult and I think the difficulty curve could be a bit more flat but still fun overall. I wish I had paid more attention to the "grab" mechanic, the game would have been easier that way. But it had great VFX, a great concept and y'all should be proud!

evan-minto 2022-04-21 15:31

Great concept, but I think it would benefit from some more playtesting and adjustment. The player character moves really quickly and frequently gets stuck on the geometry because everything is squared off. The infection process also happens really fast, so I was having trouble getting into a groove.
