Thanks @gandelianna, I was stressing that I wouldn't be able to compose anything fast enough that fit the game! Thanks for playing and I have yours on my list to check out today!
This game was more than i expected. The stealth gameplay is quite fun and the art style and music are nice too. There is much to explore and the small upgrades are a nice touch. I also liked the setting.
Nice game! I love aesthetics and overall execution. There is a plenty of space for further improvements, nice job!
Loved the atmosphere and mood, nice effort!
Nice little evasion game! Neat art, went pretty well together. The gameplay was bit repetitive - I had to circle the castle many times to find all the things. But that might be my failure to spot things. :) The prowling Knights are seem easy to evade, getting a bit harder over time. Would not have minded a little extra threat there! All in all neat game.
Good! Сool game plot gameplay is a really cool thing with clear graphics.
Love the sprites and the tileset, music is wonderful too. Really enjoyed the stealth gameplay, get a bit hectic when you have multiple knights stomping around near by! Great play on the theme too, very unexpected!
Decent experience. I have one critique. The dialog UI was pretty invasive.
The music and pixel art is great! Really sets the mood well and enhances the exerpience for sure! Really good take on the theme as well. Really enjoyed this one!
Love the premise. When the knight spotted me and music changed, my heart skipped a beat and gave me a good laugh! Love the pixel art and juice in the UI / interacting with objects.
Hey, this was super cute! I do love a humorous history reference. Big props to the art and music, they were really enjoyable and pleasant to look at/listen to. I also liked how you set up the tutorial, to have the controls disappear once you successfully use them, but also having the option to bring them up again whenever. I've definitely permanently clicked past tutorials in jam games on accident, so I really appreciate a way to double check them.
I quite like stealth games, and I think the mechanics were fairly well implemented and balanced for what was intended. For your map design, I liked that there was plenty of furniture to dodge behind, and relatively few "dead end" rooms that make you backtrack to get where you're trying to go. It's so annoying how in many stealth games when you get cornered in a dead end and have nowhere to hide, and you get frustrated because you feel like you'd have been screwed no matter how much skill you had—I didn't feel this way at all for this game. I do feel that the map could have been shrunken down or the movement speed increased (though I think the former would preserve the sneaky mood better than dashing around at high speeds!) The text speed could also have been increased—I did eventually find that you could force it by pressing E again, but I think that a faster speed by default would keep up with the action more and decrease unneeded button presses.
Overall, nice game with a lot of good quality-of-life choices, and quite lovely music and art! Kudos!
@gardenovena Thank you for the very thorough feedback! I really appreciate it and I agree with you the map should have been shrunken down a bit. Some of that was a miscommunication between the artist and level designer about how big the sprites were going to be *facepalm*. Unfortunately by the time we realized it was too big, there wasn't enough time to redo the layout. I've gotten other comments about the text speed/box - this is my first released game with text so its nice to get feedback on how to make that better in the future! Thank you again!
Impressive, especially the overall atmosphere. The art and music went very well together. I agree with some of the other comments re: the gameplay being a little repetitive (I spent longer walking around than I would have liked) - maybe a smaller level or some added challenge / obstacle to finding the ingredients to make it more interesting? Small nitpick though, this is one of the jam games I've played that I'd really like to see expanded. Nice job :)
Like the game & music, it's fun, but I got lost and had no idea where the kitchen was somehow  That may be just me, but maybe a map could be added. I've played this on 4:3 screen, so that may be the problem, but I didn't see whole text on the scrolls. I also tried searching almost every furniture, lol, and it was light quite often, so maybe that could be replaced with something else when you already have more light. Maybe even add some options for distracting the guards? Just some ideas, nice one!
One of the few entries I'd consider humorous! Loved the setting and the premise of the game, character controls felt great. Was a bit hesitant to install a jam game with elevated privileges though, but glad I did!
amazing atmosphere from the music and graphics :) It's a nice humorous comment on the famous quote. Also really great to see another Gamemaker dev :D
Wow, a stealth game for a game jam! Really cool concept. I think the game is a bit frustrating cause the knights are highly unpredictable and you are really slow, so it's hard when you spot an enemy to get to a good hiding place. The music and art are cool, well done!
Really nice one in all aspects! Incredibly well-rounded for a jam game, but of course you can always develop further :) So here are some opinions/suggestions, which shouldn't need too much coding: - Loved the change in music when in chase. Similarly you may change the speed of step audio according to running/hiding. - Searching the furnitures seemed kind of useless, especially for how time-consuming it was. I only searched in my first 5 minutes to increse my stamina to about 1.5X. It didn't seem to be too useful. Maybe less searchable object (e.g. only boxes) with higher rewards? - Also, I think it could add to the fun if the player doesn't find "something", but concrete objects. With some good ideas it could make the game's humour even better. - Faster movement speed. I would rather liked if the player's base speed would have been as fast as the running speed. Obviously the knights should be faster then as well. - No R to restart. Or with some "Are you sure you want to restart?" alert. I lost quite much more to pressing R by accident than from getting caught.
Oh, I get it, it's a *Five Nights at Freddy's* parody. Clever.
Unfortunately I have no idea where the kitchen is, so I couldn't get very far with this. The rooms all look very similar and it's hard to tell where you are exactly. Some sort of visual indicator of where the kitchen is would be a real help. It was also a little distracting that you had to actually use each of the controls in order to get their prompts to disappear. I ended up pressing Shift just to get rid of the "Hold Shift to run" prompt.
The graphic are very good, and the music really suits the game's theme, I just wish I was able to get further into it.
@f1krazy Interesting that one of your critiques is that you had to complete the tutorial in order to get the tutorial to go away. Personally, one of my most common complaints about game jams in general is that they typically LACK a tutorial of any kind. But I appreciate your feedback and I will consider an "opt out" key in the future.
Sorry you could not find the kitchen. I made the tile set during the jam (along with the music and portions of the programming) so there's only so much variety that can be pumped out in a short amount of time. The kitchen is the only room with an oven, however. Others have suggested a map which in hindsight, would have been cool to implement, but also maybe not realistic in 72 hours. All interesting things to consider regarding priorities and scope in the future.
Genuinely thank you for your feedback and best of luck in your own future game design!
@halflemonstudios Oops, the R to restart was a debug key that was accidently left in. *facepalm* sorry about that. I need to have a "remove these things before release" list because I always forget about those things.
Really great suggestions! Yeah I wish we could have done more with the searchable objects. We had lots of ideas but just not enough time to implement. I do however plan to spend a week or two polishing up a post jam version, so I will keep your suggestions in mind as I rework that mechanic.
I'm curious if you think it would be better to have a faster run or a smaller map? I've been debating that for several days now. But I agree something needs better balance there.
Thank you very much for your feedback!
Great game! "Maybe my cooking skills aren't that good... have you been lying to me?" Aww poor Antionette! I had fun playing this! Simple mechanics but they worked so effectively. Curious as to what a better light does however. You seem to be able to see the knights just as well. Maybe you see their lights better? Either way, well done!
Great atmosphere and I like the simplicity of your game. I liked it very much overall, one question though... Who was in Paris?
It looks and sounds amazing and I thought it was a really unique take on a stealth game. The difficulty curve was spot on, the first night only having one knight let me search through furniture and figure out the layout of the map so when it got more intense later I knew what I was doing. And it really did get intense towards the end, had a few narrow escapes where knights were chasing me down corridors into other knights but managed to escape and grab the chocolate in the end! Really enjoyed this one, great job!
Like that gameart nice job
Loved the music and the cute pixel art, the sudden change to the intense music upon being chased definitely gets you into a panic and running! Well done.
this was really great! the art was super great, and everything just felt really clean and well put together. i also LOVED the music, what did you use to make it? the stealth mechanics were really solid and felt really good, my one piece of feedback is that i would have liked to see some of the extra systems (searching in furniture especially) be tied more deeply into the main stealth mechanic. it kind of just felt like extra things to do, and it was easy to forget about it completely. i really had a great time with this, well done!
