I got to the end. Really neat and fun, but I'm still a bit confused on what happened. What does glowing the different colors actually do? And how am I supposed to interpret that last part? Was it a hallucination? Were you fighting yourself or changing perspectives?
We didn't have enough time to make it more clear. Originally we wanted some sort of dialogue in the game too, and cutscenes ideally.
It was a hallucination, so the monsters you fought were actually people. And you are a patient in the hospital. You had to fight your monster self to come back to your senses.
The glowing colors are powerups. Every time you hit something, you get more insane & stronger.

Just watched the game on BluishGreen's twitch, and then played it myself, and it was exceptional!
I really appreciate the art style and those tiny organic-looking details like the shimmering red background behind the white contours of the hearts, just all the beautiful touches you've added.
The theme connection, the plot twist at the end — superb. The first time you're playing (or, well, watching) the game you really believe that you're in a dungeon surrounded by enemies, because you have no reason to doubt it. And in that sense your connection with the character is very strong: in the moment of realisation, you and him are *both* stunned to learn the truth. But, well, he's more terrified and you're more *delighted*.
There's a lot of explaining of mechanics the game has to do and doesn't, but I was lucky enough to listen to you explain everything on the stream. I'm sure you'd do that perfectly given the right amount of time.
What I would really like to see in a potential full version of this is probably more challenge: maybe stealth elements, extra-tough monsters, maze-like sections, etc. to make the character's journey through his hallucination a somewhat demanding experience. Introducing stealth would have an effect similar to Dishonored games: if you were clearly given a way to complete the game without killing but chose to kill, in the end it just adds emotional weight.

Okay. I came here after @13x666 and first of all I was very tired today, but when I saw your style I immediately started playing. And this is the very cool example of how cool game can be made with very limited resources. And still it can be beautiful, fun and entertaining. The one you've done. And I really like every part of your game. I hope you will start rating other people games (you can start with our, for instance, haha) and get ratings from other to be nominated after rating time ends

Pretty solid entry, i ended up as unstable but am going to try for some harder "diagnoses"!
only "bug" i had was when the shooting peeps shot, their bullets could get me through walls, but I'm not sure if this is a feature or a bug. Everything in this game is so well crafted and though out it seems! great job with this one, loved it, the art, sounds, music, The plot! everything! GG.
The controls were really smooth. Was the roll also a dodge? Having the walls block the bullets would have been nice, too, but I can imagine that would have been another thing to add.
The visuals and effects were really nice. The end was definitely a challenge! Thanks for the game!
Update: just read that the charging enemies were a late addition. I definitely liked that added challenge!

@hawkin Yes, the roll was a dodge. I updated the game description to try to explain that too. I updated the latest release to have bullets be blocked by walls as well. Thanks for the suggestion.
@kekkodude Thanks for playing. Bullets going through walls was definitely something because of the time constraint. The bullet and charging enemies weren't implemented until like an hour before the game jam ended. I just made bullets stop at walls with the latest release, so let me know how it feels now.

I kinda got Hotline Miami vibes from this one, both in the gameplay and the narrative. Very cool! I'm glad I was eventually able to beat the boss and see the ending. :sweat_smile:

The combat was a little tricky to get a handle on; maybe instead of discrete mood displays around the edge of the screen, you could have had a single fill-bar which you could see draining and know how long you're going to stay in a specific state. And keep the player's portrait in a single position, maybe making it a tiny bit larger?

Great game! Loved the the graphics and audio. I got the Insane ending - thought it was pretty neat, and you handled that situation well of having the player realize what they've just done. Using an achievement like system as your response to the "unstable" theme was an interesting choice. I liked it! Well done!

I love the art style of the game and the music is quite cool and immersive! I like the weird worbly effect used on some of the things. The fighting is quite understandable, so that is good. It's really cool that you all managed to add so many endings!
Fun escape/combat game. Impressive for a Pico-8 game! I thought the graphics were nice, you got a lot of detail in the characters. The controls were pretty tight and the short attack range really upped the difficulty.
