I really like the idea of helping Bob by talking to him. Sometimes it's a bit random when a bear or avalanche gets you. But all in all a really good idea.

It is not clear to me why the bear keeps waking up.

I am able to avoid everything else, accept the bear.

Is it long silence that wakes the bear?

Cheers! [-LB](https://ldjam.com/users/the-lame-brain/)

Haha very fun. My wife was giving me funny looks whilst I played this lol. I seemed to get got by a bear kinda randomly sometimes, but really great effort for 72 hours! The audio combined with my silly noises made for a good soundtrack haha Neat idea and sounds like you had fun with it 😁 GOOD JOB

It took a while to realize that voice too loud wakes up the bear and get you instantly killed. Main problem in this entry is that (if I didnt realize it wrong) bear and avalanche are measured on the same factor but if I dont wake the bear up I will never get hit by avalanche, so it is useless. I would rather have had the bear threat triggered differently. Anyway the idea is really nice and you could think working on it to build more solid bases around it. Cheers!

OMG THIS IS SO COOL!!! I had wanted to include either using a mic/webcam in my game, but pyaudio was a pain in the butt to create an EXE for (I used pygame)!!! Im so glad you've shared the src code for this, ill take a look at it :) Really awesome and impressive work! Maybe I should look at using gdscrpt for my next game jam :)

Most problematic is fact that even keeping voice very low is triggering bear, anything a little bit louder and game just ends. Other than that Game is fine, has interesting idea, however avalanche part that is supposed to be unstable here is kinda useless, when bear is instakill, and for me at least amounf of bears was huge, so avalanhce was not possible to trigger at all. I'd need to shout to microphone to trigger it, and shouting at games is not my thing.

Lol that god damn bear! This game is great fun

javicoder 2021-10-11 12:11

the bear always kills me! hahaha what an original idea, it's funny. Good graphics too

I scored 1200 max with honest play. Then I just set my mic sensitivity to max and blowed on the mic. And got 3500.

Then I tried to play it on electric guitar plugged in mic port. Died instantly.

Then I tried to place mic near PC fans so there will be permanent stable speed. It worked for a while, until I pressed a key too loud.

Then I tried to put mic into a metal cup and create noise by repeatedly hitting its side. It's also worked, but at this point I realized that cup is full with water and I need to save mic as soon as possible.

Strange, but this little game get me engage more than any other on this jam.

Nice game, I think an audio level meter would have helped. Was playing while watching youtube so the video was causing me to lose instantly until I paused it. :)

Wow, such an unusual game! Liked the simplicity of idea, it's easy to control the character.

But, but gameplay ultimately comes down to just making voice, so after a while it's getting boring. So, maybe need to add more obstacles, or gameplay variants, like periods of more or less volume of voice; or maybe add more variativity to road, etc

Still, well done!

Fun little game! I love your take on the theme and the microphone idea.

mascoll 2021-10-12 12:44

I think my mic started picking up my speakers because after a while bob ran by himself. A couple of unclear bear deaths occured, other than that a solid entry. I like the player model!

cameron-paxton 2021-10-12 14:50

The core idea is definitely entertaining, and the first time I've seen the mic implemented in a jam game! However, it's a bit fiddly and as a player it's often unclear what I'm doing incorrectly, and often the layout of the obstacles seems impossible to pass. With some additional time spent on polishing, though, this would be a little gem. Nice job!

Very interesting concept, it was pretty fun!

yopox 2021-10-12 21:52

So the purpose is to make us sound unstable? I love it  :mega:

zimny11 2021-10-12 23:53

Cool game concept! I got 2115 just by blowing slightly air into my mic and by rubbing hand by hand XD

sethjmoore 2021-10-13 22:08

I had no idea that my voice was so annoying to bears!

harrison-dunn 2021-10-18 12:41

I don't think I've seen a jam game use the microphone before, super cool! Congrats on making this in such a short time frame :)

Unfortunately, the microphone just seemed too inconsistent. I couldn't tell why I was getting eaten by the bear every time. I only lasted a few seconds and it seemed that whispers and shouts always ended with Bob getting eaten. An onscreen volume indicator or something would have helped immensely I think.

Keep up the novel ideas!

necauqua 2021-10-21 12:19

Hahahah, great idea man, innovative :)

varundevs 2021-10-21 12:41

Pretty fun concept

bloodycoin 2021-10-21 19:00

Nice idea; good implementation; simple, yet effective. Don't know if it's my mic settings, but it was really hard balancing between `loud enough to keep moving, yet not too loud wake the bear`. Kept making speeding car sounds :joy: because that seemed funny and very effective at driving Bob forward. Liked your pun to `Keep talking and...` game ;)
