Very neat game ! The combat system is well thought and becomes very fun once we get the hang of it. I can only wish for a longer version with more fights :)

crescentodyssey 2021-10-05 13:13

Excellent graphics and UI built! Wish you can elaborate on the idea more

orangutanrider 2021-10-05 13:15

Really good and unique combat system.

Awesome graphics. Great music.

Some transition effects and sounds would help when switching from overworld to battle.

Tried out your game, I think the game's resolution is abit off? its quite small when I maximized the game (this is on the web version) so it was hard on the eyes while playing, gameplay is a nice change to the usual stuff im used to well done!

pizzart64 2021-10-05 13:21

Beautiful art and design, I had trouble understanding the combat at first though

appoxgames 2021-10-05 13:22

Very interesting game! Great visuals and the music increased the general vibe of the game. I enjoyed the combat system and the game had a lot of content from the get go. Only feedback I can is to have all interactive clickable graphics to have some kind of feedback after click. Was a bit unsure of what was clickable and not.

Well done!

redmountainman1 2021-10-05 13:59

It took a while to get used to the system, but I played for about an hour straight. Great work! I would play a full RPG like this.

cyndrdev 2021-10-05 14:18

graphically, this game is far and away one of the best i've seen in a jam - the ui and character art mesh so well together, and practically ooze style. the only exception to this is the spirit boxes, which feel oddly plain, with the spirits basically grazing the edge of the boxes - give them space to breathe!

it's astonishing to me that you then managed to also pull off one of the freshest takes on a battle system i've seen in a while - although it took me a while to get familiar with it, i was quickly engrossed and felt genuinely challenged in a way that most turn-based rpgs struggle to achieve for me.

i have only a couple of gripes: firstly, the pacing feels a little slow. allowing the player to place a whole five sets of spirits per turn seems too much, and it meant i was taking a long time on every single turn. the combat ui also felt like it was fighting against me here - whenever choosing which spirits to place down, i want to be able to also have the spells on screen to easily see what patterns i should be aiming for. i think i clicked those tab buttons more than anything else by an order of magnitude.

that aside, this is an incredibly strong entry that i'd love to see developed further. if a full game like this were released, i would buy it in a heartbeat.

Really nice and beautiful game !

I tried playing the game without reading the tutorial on the description page first, and i thought i was soft-locked in the battle once i placed all my spirits.

The tutorial helped me to know that the "End Spirit Turn" is actually a button and not a label.

I would suggest putting the button to the bottom of the spell description instead of the top of our stats. "Discard"/"Empty" buttons having a different style and being near of the "End Spirit Turn" button didn't help, and by symmetry, on the right side, it is the enemy's name (and it's not a button). So my mind just considered it as Not a Button and went above without reading it.

Otherwise, once again, really nice game ! . I enjoyed the game once i understood how things work.

Good job ! :tada:

Hey everyone ! Thanks you for you kind words, it's meen a lot to me when you want to play a more biger version of this concept <3

In response to the general remarks, yes there is a serious lack of feedback in the game, a lot of buttons don't have any interaction and none all of us follow the same pattern. And also yes, learn all the rules without in game tutorial is hard :/ I think make a complex gameplay system during a jam is a bit risky because it requires time to explain and time to understand... So a big thanks to all of us who persisted and understood this !

@cyndrdev I didn't think of reducing the number of actions per turn, but begining the game with only 3 and grow up to 5 or more could be a great idea !

@achila-eranga-mohottige On which platform did you play ? If it was the html version on itch.io, you have the Unity blue icon which set the game in full screen. But in top of it, you have the itch.io full screen button, but it don't work properly, so I disable it just now. Maybe you pressed the wrong full screen button ?

What an interesting battle mechanic! This was an ambitious undertaking but I think you executed it well. I agree with some of the others in the comments that some player feedback would have helped a lot when clicking and such, but the overall design of the UI is a good layout. The art and music are really nice as well! I hope you keep working on this game. I think it has a lot of potential!

anthony-servedio 2021-10-06 15:57

Cool combat system. Graphics look great! This was a fun and interesting concept.

pkzinpo 2021-10-06 20:23

I really like the art style of this game! And also the music, fits very well with each other. The combat system took a little bit to get used to, but it was easily understood with the tutorial. Agreed with some of the other comments that some visual feedback when pressing buttons would help with the overall feel of the game. When I had clicked to go to the next fight, I thought it wasn't working until it loaded and I was like 'oh' haha. Overall, very well done with the game!

hobzone 2021-10-07 08:43

Very interesting gameplay, really liked the art also :)

kitkii 2021-10-07 16:49

Amazing game with beautiful art I really enjoyed working out the how to maximise combos in 1 turn although it took me a while to fully get it. I will say that I struggled with knowing what I had selected when I went to discard a cards so I think that could be better displayed but I really enjoyed the game overall and wished it was longer.

jonathan-alderson 2021-10-07 20:55

Fantasic, really great : )

100th-coin 2021-10-07 22:57

Woah, that's a super creative combat system! I love the character design too! Each turn seems to take a long time, I feel like giving the player fewer objects per turn could remedy this. It's a lot to take in for a new player, but once you get the hang of it, the game starts to get going. Cool entry!

bqq 2021-10-08 01:08

Really cool combat system, it's really fun to play! The character designs and art (especially the spirits, they have a lot of character) is also super good! The only constructive feedback I have is that the long text tutorials in the game description almost scared me away (boy am I glad I didn't leave :D) so you might want to simplify those a bit more to the core idea like "Alternate between placing spirits and casting spells using them" to sell the game. The UI and gameplay also worked really well, I even got a chuckle out of the intro text each time :D Great work everyone!

caeonosphere 2021-10-09 07:52

Always love seeing an original combat system. Agree with others about turns being a little overlong. More of a back and forth would have made it feel more snappy. Allowing rotation of the spirits would have been cool too.

garywiss 2021-10-10 09:58

Very fun concept, I really love the art style ! I had struggle to figure out how to play it because I acaccidentally skip the tutorial and didn't find a way to trigger it again but I achieve to learn it the hard way  The game really miss some animations and feedback and it takes me some time to find that you have to select a spell and select the corresponding pattern on the grid to launch it. However the amount of content and the gameplay are really impressive for a jam game, great job !

ribout-horace 2021-10-10 18:13

The visual and the art direction (plus aaaall the little feedback/animation) really help set a visual style, help by the universe

But the game is really hard to understand, and need more "gameplay feedback". He is also very hard (I would say a tutorial or a first "easy" enemy would have been perfect, but we're talking about a game jam game, so it's not really fair)

It's a really stylish game nonetheless! Congrats !

beardywombat 2021-10-13 12:38

A very interesting puzzle mechanic, I liked it. Nice art with a good visual layout

mavvy 2021-10-16 16:35

Absolutely fantastic music and visuals! The fighting took a minute to click with me, but after that there was a really interesting game here!

cakestorm 2021-10-17 08:10

I love how you combined a puzzle game and a fighting game together in this way, it was a brilliant idea! I loved organising my placements of spirits and trying to work out the optimal moves, and it was always so satisfying getting that 5-combo in the end. I'd love to see it expanded upon, with new spells, new spirits, even bigger grids; it was so fun to play around in. The upgrades were a nice addition as well, they added some progress and I particularly liked buying new spells and spirits, it kept the game refreshing. The art was wonderful, I loved how the game art and UI art worked well together - I loved the style of the shadows and that polka dot background, right out of a comic book - and the character designs were awesome as well. Those little animations when attacking or getting hit added a lot of personality to the game! The music was a really good fit for the game as well, particularly that final boss music, it never got old. A brilliant game, I'd love to see where it goes in future, so very well done!

hiko-game 2021-10-21 03:22

This game mechanics is so interesting. So deep. And I Love graphics. nice job!!
