Awesome art and animation really sell the fun upbeat vibe of the setting but the gameplay is a little repetitive and it felt really hard to lose once I learned the basic mechanics, a lot of the time I was waiting for stuff to appear on screen which felt a bit mismatched for the fast paced upbeat vibe of the game itself.

Good work completing a game like this over ludum dare, very cool and once again I adore the animations, our goat friend is super cute!

stoickekis 2021-10-05 01:47

Love that voxel goat!

fluorescent 2021-10-05 03:13

simplistic, but looking very cool and with definite attention to detail considering the art! awesome :)

drtizzle 2021-10-05 06:39

This game is very polished, I like it! The graphics have a nice style, and the music is REALLY good! The gameplay is a bit clunky. The first time I didn't see the goat, and I thought I had to control the cart (which did not respond). The second run I noticed the goat, but the dashing only works sometimes. Other rimes the blocks just won't break. Overall a very nice and beautiful entry, well done!

benmcnelly 2021-10-05 06:53

Really good looking and sometimes you get a bad seed where the power ups are sparse but nicely done!

0x-void-x0 2021-10-05 17:09

oh wow this is one of the games that could be polished then sent to steam, really beutiful simple and funny, I really like it

whysguy52 2021-10-05 22:56

Wow. great job. Couldn't figure out what to do about the blocks until i re-read the description but I got it. accidentally restarted because i used shift to sprint and activated sticky keys. May want to unbind that button.

barney25052 2021-10-05 23:01

Really love the art.

sli 2021-10-05 23:52

Wow. It looks good and the mood and feel are great. Good Job!

ryan-winstead 2021-10-06 05:03

Looks amazing! I had a similar issue to someone else that I thought I was controlling the cart and that my WASD wasn't working lmao. Thankfully reading the over comment saved me =p The music and voxel art is soo good! Had a lot of fun.

lunacyecho 2021-10-06 06:02

Whoaa, the vibe of this game is immaculate! The visuals are wonderfully styled and that music is so rich. (I found my way here because of the super cool post your composer made, and as the guy who did music/sfx on my own game, I was hella impressed with the fact that you wrote out an actual score for it! Smh imagine being a *real* musician)

I will say, the thing that impacted the game for me the most was that there wasn't really an in-game explanation about what the goal was or how to achieve it. I think I was eventually able to figure it out, but only after dying once and reading the description. (My initial thought was that the hamster cart was evil and the goat was trying to get away from it, but this started to seem unlikely after I realized that you could just make the goat go infinitely off the screen to the left.) I think some kind of how-to-play or description would go a long way here.

One more thought about music! Both songs on the soundtrack are so thoughtfully composed that I wish we got to hear more of the menu theme!! One thing I ended up using as a way to figure out how much time to devote to each track on my own game was based on how much time I thought a player would spend listening to the music (so songs with less exposure would end up being shorter, etc). Perhaps that's some food for thought for next time? And I'm not criticizing the music itself! I just think it's a shame that most players won't hear the entirety of that wonderful menu theme.

This was fun and I'll definitely share it with others because it really captures that arcadey fun vibe so well. Congrats on a game well done!

bauke-regnerus 2021-10-06 09:05

I like the voxel graphics; the overall tone of the game is really nice. The mechanics itself took me a while to learn, and once I understood the game was a lot easier. Music and audio good too.

moonblast 2021-10-06 09:13

Well done. At first, I thought I controlled the car because the goat is out of camera. When I realized, I spent few minutes to understand how to effect the car.XD The soundtrack and graphics are both amazing. Generally speaking, it is a very excellent work

elbidev 2021-10-06 09:51

Nice job I really liked the idea it might be worth having the camera follow the goat the players controlling however. The soundtrack and graphics suited the game really well and the controls were smooth and didn't feel clunky at all

geckoo1337 2021-10-06 10:56

Hello. I would like to play so as to rate your entry, but unfortulatelly, controls don't work. I am trying to use Arrows Keys and WASD, but nothing moves. I play in my browse - the latest FireFox version. There is something wrong somewhere, but I have no clue. Help will be appreciated here ++

ardorugus 2021-10-06 12:02

Un-stable). Interesting runner, however maybe if the camera view were different... I mean, there's more fun to the hamster (whoever that is) and goat animation. I'd love to see the Score during the gameplay. Overall this game is very fun and quite a musical!

marc-antoine-girard 2021-10-06 13:30

@geckoo1337 Hey! From the other comments, I'm guessing you tried to control the cart. The player is actually the goat (and the cart is basically a payload) :P

geckoo1337 2021-10-06 14:50

Ok. Thank you for the explanation. Now I understand how to play. It was fun - I played and I had fun. Voxel graphics and the main aesthetic are really pleasant. Controls work well as expected, but it is hard. I have to play again so as to increase my skill getting a good score. The music is cool too - like a comic mood. It reminds me the old movies about WW2 (une belle ambiance de kermesse). Well done. Thank you for your ratings and kind words ++

tom-stephenson 2021-10-06 16:57

Challenging and fun! I love the games visuals and the intro camera work looks so slick! Like others, I originally thought I was supposed to control the cart, but once I figured it out I really enjoyed the game. It felt polished, and the soundtrack fit the game really well!

Congrats on a great entry! :)

dev-dennis 2021-10-06 21:32

I dont think the controls are working? I tried it but couldn't move.

Lovely graphics and music.

charles-viau 2021-10-06 21:35

@dev-dennis you are controlling the goat, not the cart ;)

trypants 2021-10-06 21:39

@dev-dennis Sorry about that, we should make it clearer.

As @marc-antoine-girard said : "From the other comments, I’m guessing you tried to control the cart. The player is actually the goat (and the cart is basically a payload) :P"

omarmobadr 2021-10-06 22:44

A goat is trying to run away with a hamster what an idea, and very cool game mechanics as well, and you added a support for controllers, good job to all of you

jitspoe 2021-10-07 03:01

Really liked the graphics on this. Solid audio/visual entry. I was a little confused by the mechanics, though, especially since the camera didn't follow the goat.

funemaker 2021-10-07 03:21

I also was confused at first....I think if the goat is not out and visible when you start controlling it, it is hard to recover. Other than that, once I got that thing out of the stable, it was a lot of fun! I love the idea and it looks and plays great!

simpathey 2021-10-07 05:20

I was confused about the mushrooms and the rocks. But after I got the hang of it, I wasn't kidding around :D Super fun game!

dev-dennis 2021-10-07 06:47

@trypants I can't see any goat on the screen? When I move wasd nothing moves on the screen? I'm missing something.

trypants 2021-10-07 14:16

Hi @dev-dennis , when you start just press right (Right Arrow/D Key). The goat is hidden from the view inside the barn. (We should fix that)

jitspoe 2021-10-07 19:54

Here's the VOD from when I played: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1169455753?t=3h32m32s

apples-mmmmmmmm 2021-10-07 20:27

Nice entry. Looks and sounds great. Gameplay intention isn't all that clear to begin with, and the item mechanics even less so. Strange that the camera doesn't follow the goat, which allows the goat to be lost off-screen entirely and also causes the entire screen to stutter when the cart hits an object and stutters. Would be interesting to see the game get progressively harder rather than how far you can get being strictly based on when and if the power-up to destroy blocks shows up.

geist-191 2021-10-08 05:47

Very awesome take on the topic! It was a lot of fun to play and I tried multiple times to beat my record! Glad to have found this game :D The music is amazing!!

edevjogos 2021-10-08 05:58

The game is cool, the graphics are really good and the music is fun, is just kind hard to dash in to the cart and change lanes there's so many obstacles that sometimes i would just let it crash on the block, it would also be nice a quick text at begining where the commands are to explaing the carrot and mushroom, i got what the mushroom do, but i've no clue what the carrots do, i gave them to the hammster but i didn't notice any change.

reronin 2021-10-08 06:09

Cool game! Took a while before I figured out what to do. The art is lovely. I love myself some voxels. Highest score I got was 2171, because sometimes it seems inevitable that you crash the hamster into some blocks.

charles-viau 2021-10-08 13:05

@edevjogos the cart goes faster and faster over time, the carrots slow down the cart, but it cannot go under minimal speed, so maybee you got a ton of carrots and couldn't see the change ;)

mhorth 2021-10-08 20:57

Really nice job! I had the same confusion as other people where I didn't move the goat out of the stable immediately, so it fell off camera. Then I was confused that the cart wasn't responding to my controls. I'm wondering if you had the camera track the goat instead of the cart, if that would have helped? It sounds like all of us eventually figured it out and got to play, so no harm in the end.

I gotta reiterate the other comments that the music and sound effects are really top notch. The art style isn't for me but I can appreciate the skill and effort that went into it.

arya-s 2021-10-09 14:41

I really love what you did here. The whole setting is ridiculous and it's accompanied by a very fitting music. Great art and mood.

The only thing I'd like to suggest is to make the map obstacles less tight. It's a bit hard to push the cart around in time sometimes because of being blocked by the obstacles.

Great entry.

Here's the recording of my livestream! I'll post a full comment of it eventually, but to check it out, I've time-stamped the vid below:

The presentation values in this are amazing, the voxel art looks great, the lighting is fantastic, and the music works really well too. I clearly didn't read the instructions well enough because my first playthrough I thought I was racing the hamster

Something I really appreciated was the fact that you were able to communicate various bits of information without any UI. The health was done with in-world objects, rather than an on screen bar. And even the few bits of UI you did have were world-space rather than screen overlay. I like games that can do minimal UI without losing anything, and this game does that excellently.

joeshanahan 2021-10-18 23:28

Took a bit of time, but finally finished uploading all the games I played to YouTube, if you wanna check it out it's here

Alright, the full comment. Note that I largely played on an Xbox 360 controller to play this game.

The presentation in this game is quite good. The graphics are consistent and clear to understand. I've rarely had a moment where I felt either visually overwhelmed or confused based on the elements that are generated. The visual and audio effects had a relatively good crunch to them. And I actually liked the diegetic health bar, being represented by the luggage in the cart.

Personally, I had a bigger problem with the control over the cart. While the movement of the goat is mostly fine, given the game is about dodging elements, having such "loose" ability to manipulate the cart makes it difficult to avoid things. For example, needing to swap from one lane to the other, then back requires moving the goat above the cart, dash, then trot around the cart to the bottom, then dash. If I had direct controls over the cart, this process would be much faster, giving me the ability to dodge rocks at the last minute. It doesn't help that the goat has collision with the rocks, and thus needs to maneuver around them to even touch the cart. And that's before I mention it's possible to be blocked by rocks from approaching the cart. I also found it frustrating that the goat has to keep up with the moving cart, as it made it slower to maneuver around the cart.

Perhaps having a way to both control the cart and the goat at the same time may make the game more satisfying. For example, with left-stick + right-stick combo, or keyboard controls one character, and the mouse controls the other. This would make the lightbulb mechanic much more interesting, an element I ended up ignoring after a while because keeping the cart out of danger's way was much more important to me, and the game was bright enough without it anyway. I certainly would like to see a level/stage system to give a sense of progression, rather than an infinitely long level.
