Nice concept, the movement felt a little slow and there was no feedback on whether I had picked up an item other than the UI (which I totally missed the first few times). Enjoyed the music and thought it fit the general mood well.

Nice game, but I didn't see any enemies?

chocolat-endive 2020-04-20 21:56

It fits in the theme, and it's easy to understand how to play! Some audio FX when trying to cut trees or to mine could be useful, it's quite hard to know if clicking really works sometimes.

Nice entry overall!

"What if Shadow of the Beast had survival and crafting mechanics?" Is a question I never before thought to ask, but one which you have answered admirably.

Really enjoyed the mood and the oldschool side-scroller vibe even if it was hard to tell at first when I was collecting materials.

Interesting game. What I liked: - Sprites were nice - music was fitting

What could be improved: - the movement speed of character and his animations (he felt unresponsive and snappy) - show the health of the flame - the game doesnt explain how to get iron - i had way too much wood and way little stone to craft anything

Nonetheless, good job on the game and finishing on time

Great concept and simple to learn. Movement feels a little slow and resources seem too far away!

1257th-or-nothing 2020-04-20 22:01

Good game with good potentiel. With better background graphics and sounds like when gathering resources, the mood should be great!

madbookstudios 2020-04-20 22:06

The art was fantastic, my favourite part about the game I think. I wish the character moved fast. The music really ties everything together nicely though.

kymakesgames 2020-04-20 22:07

Played it five or six times; it's challenging! Good ambiance and interesting world. The gameplay is similar to Kingdom Two Crowns. I would have liked more visual/audio feedback on my actions. Good music. Overall thumbs up!

@madbookstudios Thanks so much! This was my first time doing pixel art (or really any art in a serious fashion), so I'm ecstatic that you enjoyed it

elbapotsnugg 2020-04-21 01:48

@itsonrandom Thanks so much! Appreciate the feedback! Great note on the sfx. Unfortunately a casualty of timing. This was my first solo jam and I really learned how quick 48 hours really is

elbapotsnugg 2020-04-21 01:51

@douwe-ravers The enemies only spawn at night. They move pretty slowly and are very dark, so they might blend into the background a little bit. Some enemies fly above your head as well!

elbapotsnugg 2020-04-21 01:52

@chocolat-endive Thanks so much, appreciate that feedback! Definitely agree!

elbapotsnugg 2020-04-21 02:04

@peto184 Thank you so much. Appreciate all the feedback! All good points. Player feedback (SFX or other) is an area I won't take lightly next jam

elbapotsnugg 2020-04-21 02:10

@1257th-or-nothing Thanks so much for the feedback! Both great points. The background gave me a lot of trouble. Pixel art is something I'll have to practice before the next jam.

I like the concept, and you came up with a pretty interesting gameplay loop! The music is really cool as well. My biggest complaint is that the UI was very small on my screen so i had a hard time seeing what resources I had. I found your game because our entries both have the same name! Anyway good job on this!

gal-afik 2020-04-21 05:32

The theme was definitely represented well and I just wish game-play was a bit smoother. Otherwise, great job on your first solo jam!

I kind of wish I could hold down the mouse button for it to keep repeating instead of trying to mash it. It seemed random when I would be able to click again. It was hard to tell how much wood I needed to put in the fire.

jaywoody 2020-04-27 16:34

Nice entry! The concept was cool and executed pretty nicely. I would've liked to see the health of the flame as a bar or something but of course this way you are always guessing. I really really liked the music you did for this. Sometimes when hitting an enemy the sfx didn't play, but that's minor thing.

I had fun playing it and got the end! Nice job!

saltfactory-studio 2020-04-28 04:46

The music and art for this game is well done for a game jam. If you had more time, I would suggest including more UI for player feedback as to what the player does (ex. chopping wood sound effect when collecting wood). But overall, I really like this implementation of combining a collectible game with the Keep it Alive theme. Good job man!

eduardogacn 2020-04-28 06:36

good game

laura-del-pino 2020-04-28 14:20

Nice concept but I think I miss something to have fun. I think it's due the slowliness of the characters , maybe a speed up of the main character will help. And maybe a tutorial to teach the craft system and the available resources would help to play the game so hintless. As possitive point I really appreciate the warning message. Good job! It's a quite difficult game to be done within a jam time. Congratulations

jakobthequizguy 2020-05-04 16:11

I like the concept, but I think your game is held back by how slow it is. The character moves frustratingly sluggishly and resources are a bit far from the fire, so when walking all the way over there all I could think about was the time limit on the fire, which didn't make room for much enjoyment for me. The music is good, and the graphics are nice. Overall I think this game could be pretty good with some slight adjustments.

natwomb 2020-05-05 18:32

Cool graphics, fitting music, made for a good vibe :)
