i like this, good twist on tower defense

filgreen3 2020-04-21 12:31

I have a lot of fun when play this game. It would be very cool if you could move on a ship and shoot down asteroids.

theworldbuilder 2020-04-21 12:38

Interesting little game, well done!

hhsaez 2020-04-21 12:38

I like the idea, but I think the game is too difficult (played on Easy). The manual fire is not really useful, since it's too slow and the asteroids are really fast. You can zoom in, but then you lose visibility. I guess that's a good trade off, but they're just too slow. Maybe you can change them to be instantaneous hits instead? Also, you should add some moments of relax in between attacks so we can plan and buy new turrets. Thanks!

Interesting concept. I had fun trying to keep Earth alive. I played it a few times with a high score of 136... I want to know how you got 19000+ with over 15k money!! ;)

svarttand 2020-04-21 13:21

@hhsaez and @fussenkuh The game is not that greatly balanced as it goes from easy to hard and after some time it gets easy again. I added some tips on the page but there is the functionality to pause the game with [Space] that helps a lot.

Manual fire is important at first. But it is hard to aim the target. It maybe nice if had a raycast to show the manual fire's route. The graphic(a lot of light trails) is great! It will be more excited if add some screenshake or other things. "Boom!! Boom!!", light trails and enemy boom <- that will be excited.

That was an interesting and unique game! It took a while for me to understand what I had to do but once I got the gist of it, the game was pretty fun. The manual shooting was a bit confusing because I wasn't sure which part was supposed to hit the meteors but that might just be me. The graphics were pretty cool but at times the lighting made asteroids hard to see (Not sure if this is intentional though). Good job adding music as well in such a short time too, but personally it felt too slow for an action game with constant shooting. I really liked the unique mechanics! Good job!

Brought back a lot of nostalgia for me, reminded me of some of the games in the early 2000s. The amount of target crashing towards earth went from 0 to 100 real quick for me, and it can feel a little unrewarding to not hit them after aiming and shooting at them for quite long. Thanks for the game, it's really cool!

zerohbeat 2020-04-23 09:59

Really cool game, quite hard and overwhelming even on easy. Initially it was a bit difficult to figure out what to do but on my second try on easy I got a score of 63 :)... Thanks for the experience

Cool! I went in blind and had to lose the game on easy two times until I got all the gameplay mechanics (like buying and build defense structures on the planet) after that, the game was a breeze and it was satisfiying to see the planet obliterating everything that was coming it's way. It was a little TOO easy :D I guess that's why there is a second, harder lvel.

The art is nice and the presentation of the defense systems are cool to lok at. The ui kinda covers some of the game view which seems a little unnecessary. the buttons could've found a place at the bottom of the ui instead of covering a fifth of the bottom left screen.

Game play seems relatively bug free (didn't find any at least) Good job!

Played on Easy Difficulty level. Good idea, nice low poly art.

Not sure that there are some music during the game but it could be cool to play some cosmic epic music while playing. Also, maybe it is a bug, but my scores were 0 on Game Over Screen shot_087.png

Also, I'd recommend to add some highlight spots and glowing silhouettes of building on earth and in space so the player can see where it will be placed, so it will allow to locate towers accurately.

Manual shots missiles look a little bit strange to me, I did not understand that they are missiles flying into space

Congratulations on making your cool TD in Space game for LD 46! :rocket:

Cool idea! I really liked the graphics too! The tower defence mechanics also felt very refined! The manual shooting trail renderers always faced one direction, which isn't an issue, but maybe could have been tweaked. Overall, this is a great Compo game! Just replayed, and the trail renders are in the right direction when you move your camera!

thevruniverse 2020-04-23 11:29

nice i really enjoyed it

corbak 2020-04-23 11:33

I really like the look of the planets, great estetics! THe gameplay is simple but effective, although I had a hard time aiming the asteroids coming from the otherside of the planet! Cool entry overall, great job!

pixnpickstudio 2020-04-23 11:36

Really nice entry well excuted! I love the idea of timelapsing your jam.

azo 2020-04-23 11:37

Really liked this game! was very satisfying to play, the world looked amazing, as did the menus. A bit more polish (I know game jams don't really allow this) would take it to the next level, but this is a really solid submission anyway!

yorsh 2020-04-23 11:45

That's a nice game ! A lot of stuff for a compo game.

It has lasers going everywhere so that's cool. Manual fire has the potential to feel better tho. First making the visual effect start from the bottom of the screen so it would look right without having to move the camera. Then not having to preshot stuff to hit, which is always complicated in 3D given that depth is pretty hard to estimate. First person lasers are always hard to get right in my experience, that's not an easy task in 48h.

sergei 2020-04-23 18:16

Enjoyed playing the game! I armed my in-game Moon partner with weapons and we had fun together defending me. = ) I liked the time freeze feature being present here. It made the gameplay more tactical, I'd say.

svarttand 2020-04-24 11:58

@mhykah thanks for the video you made, it really helps. I should maybe have had the shooting ray casted, now you just have to shoot ahead of the asteroid to hit it. I actually had the music even slower before it was finished but my friend already pointed out to make it faster paced but maybe i could have made it even faster :)

fabrizio-spadaro 2020-04-24 18:31

Saw your timelapse on youtube, impressive work, nice graphic and interesting gameplay, loved playing your game :D

2020-04-29 14:33

Challenging game. I included it in my Ludum Dare 46 compilation video series, if you want to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/fsg5gDaiyQc

szieberth-adam 2020-05-01 22:39

Very nice planets! Good concept. I like the mission. I like the mechanics. Since Imperium Galactica I am fond of the pauseable real time games.

I would like to see more of the planet even if it is full of armaments: the lovely blue green turns to a concrete jungle so I am thinking what do I save at all?

Awesome work in 48 hours, your timelapse video is impressive. I wish I could work with same productivity and quality!

coleslaughter 2020-05-04 06:41

I think you have a very very interesting idea here. The fusion of space shooter and tower defense game in 3D is genuinely novel, and with some polish could be something really special.

Some suggestions:

1. The missiles and the asteroids seem like they use the same color palette, which makes it hard to parse information when a lot of stuff is happening at once

2. The instantiated bullet object takes up too much camera space when it fires out, making it even harder for me to tell what's going on when I'm trying to defend my planet.

3. Making the scene brighter and having a larger variety of colors could go a long way in helping the player keep track of everything on screen

Sorry if it sounds like I'm ragging on this too much. I actually tend to be the most critical of games I really like, because I see a lot of potential that usually gets me excited. ^.^

Nice job!!
