this feels like "layers of fear", nice effects btw!

velvetlobster 2019-10-07 23:48

just noticed you opted out of the graphics category, was gonna rate for that cause this is really cool

el-fideo-rubio 2019-10-07 23:50

@velvetlobster Thank you for playing, do you have any feedback for improving the current game state of the game ?

el-fideo-rubio 2019-10-08 00:26

@velvetlobster Even though we made some art for instance the hand painted feel was ours and so was the mirror but the environments at large were packages so we couldn't go for the graphics because of that reason

jk5000 2019-10-08 10:34

A weird little game with an interesting atmosphere. Both the sounds and the graphics is really good. The story is okay, but I would have liked a bit more story. Overall an okay jam game.

el-fideo-rubio 2019-10-08 10:54

@jk5000 thank you for playing and the feedback, what would you have added in terms of story ?, I'm just learning how to create small stories, and I want to improve and be a better story teller.

jk5000 2019-10-08 11:17

All I learned in the story is that there is a painter, and the painter has some weird dreams with a big mirror. I want to know more about painter, and I want to know what the dream is about.

kessutinnu 2019-10-08 19:23

The painting like look of the environment was cool and I really liked the idea. There was a bit too much motion blur - I kinda got dizzy. Also I did not understand if the weapon was any use or not in the first two dreams, because nothing seemed to happen when used it. I also would've liked if I could use lines to paint rather than dots. Other than that, it was a pretty cool game.

tori 2019-10-08 19:28

Wow, what a creepy mood, i liked it! i love the aesthetic and the fact that i can actually paint ! great job :) !

xotsu 2019-10-08 21:58

Awesome effects and graphics, creative game!

themoonrise 2019-10-08 22:08

I really enjoyed the game. Creating something yourself adds a personal touch to the game and is a lot of fun. How did you make the image effect that blurs distant object in this cool, oil painting like style? All in all a great experience!

dwam 2019-10-08 22:17

The game looks really good, and I found its message and the way it was communicated really interesting and relatable. It's just missing a bit of polish. For example, better transitions between the dreams and daytime. I also would've liked a bit more options when it comes to painting besides just putting dots. If you do expand upon this at some point in the future, that last point is one I'd like to see addressed especially. It'd make the message of the game even stronger and the dream sections far more effective.

Overall, though, fun!

nachtwitch 2019-10-08 23:16

Definitely a wierder title compared to the other entries, still a very enjoyable experience

roberto-romao 2019-10-08 23:20

Very good, =) this is a work of art (no pun intended)

^^

nathan-wash 2019-10-09 00:58

Super creepy, I love the art and sounds. The story could use some work, but for a jam obviously there's only so much you can fit in.

I think the dream world could be creepier, imo it doesn't really fit the rest of the mood quite as well, but I think it would be as simple as switching out the enemies so something creepier. The enemies having your painting as a face was a nice touch though.

Nice job!

smileyface 2019-10-09 01:52

I think a lot of us here can deeply relate to what your game is trying to say. Just one thing to note is that the camera seemed to be rotating around some object rather than rotating it self after you shoot the mirror. Otherwise this was s superb effort.

el-fideo-rubio 2019-10-09 03:01

@dwam thanks for the feedback, we are planning to rework the whole dream sequence so if you have any ideas as for what to add I'd love to hear it :)

brokenmirrormedia 2019-10-09 06:15

That was a pretty neat experience! I was going to say that the player movement felt a bit fast for a narrative game, but the shooting part made me understand why. I wish this was expanded upon! The graphics had a really nice style to them, and it reminded me a bit of Layers of Fear in tone. I did have one issue, when painting it would release my mouse, and when I would exit painting my cursor could go onto my second monitor and I would have to reselect the game window to move around, but otherwise didn't notice anything game breaking. Great job!

team-on 2019-10-09 18:56

Oh my, I got scared with that that mirror in the end. Gameplay feels little anoying, but it can be good horror if you polish it

gord10ahmet 2019-10-09 21:40

Such good graphics and mood!

ashashza 2019-10-09 22:18

That was surreal, I enjoyed it. Unfortunately sounds didn't work for me but this game has so much atmosphere that came through anyway.

I liked the paint effect and wondered if maybe it should only be used in the dream world to help the player distinguish between then two? (it would make sense to me if a painter dreamed in paint)

The theme in this jam is powerful to me, I would have enjoyed exploring it more. Mostly as an interactive experience I'd like my paintings to affect my dreams and my dreams to affect my paintings. The effects could be subtle and sparse but I feel they would significantly add to the experience.

roastedpotatoe 2019-10-09 22:20

Nice and short, on a technical side, 1.47 GB(uncompressed) seems like a lot for the game. Am I missing content inside the game?

honey-pony 2019-10-09 22:49

Really neat game. Love the graphical effect, as everyone else. I think the dream mood could be much enhanced with a few tweaks: first, oftentimes I couldn't even see my paintings, as they were too dimly lit. Second, I think they should be distorted somehow, probably nothing too fancy, but even just making them "melt" or something could add to the effect.

I will say that the mirror at the end gave me a small fright (but didn't feel like a jump-scare), so good job there.

I am just a little disturbed by how big the download is. I guess Unreal Engine can be a bit of a beast.

sometimesghost 2019-10-09 23:22

Lacking in polish, but nice graphics and an interesting concept.

hiroboto 2019-10-10 05:23

Damn I love it. Definitely No.1.

oneki 2019-10-11 08:24

Good use of everything Unreal Engine 4 has to offer from the get go. Is the post processing custom and different from regular Kawahara (https://weekly-geekly.github.io/articles/358262/index.html)?

As for the story, it's something first-year art students come up with. Trying to be deep and heavy, coming off as pretty shallow. Sometimes trying less is better :)

el-fideo-rubio 2019-10-11 11:26

@oneki I wasn't the one that did the post process but I believe that he follow the Kawahara one, yes.

As for story I wasn't trying to be deep,I'm aware it's pretty bland, but you have to take your chances to things that are outside your comfort zone (none of us are writers)

I'll try to have a better outline of the story for the next one, thanks for the feedback.

prodigalson 2019-10-11 19:27

I don't think my computer is powerful enough to render the game correctly because it was running like a 10fps and the mouse movement was really fast making it hard for me to control it. However, I was digging the mood expecting something to pop up out of no where and scare me and surely enough the fist dream sequence was all like "get away from me!" lol

pedro-rosa 2019-10-11 22:52

I got genuinely freaked out about your game. The naked man running with what cube on their head was so strange. I guess that was completely the point so great job. Overall I liked the experience, It was scary and strange. I didn't get exactly what I need to paint but at the same time, I don't know if that was requested. One of the thinks what made a lot of pressure for me was that when you entered the dream state you need to shoot those enemies. This caught me completely off guard so great job. The motion blur with you turn the camera is a nice touch.

adhesion 2019-10-13 20:05

Cool! I like the concept & vibe. Trying to make good paintings was actually pretty fun - I sort of wish that that process was more meaningful somehow - also it felt like I was getting rushed through it due to how early the "I should go to bed" prompt came up. Gameplay is a little basic in the dream but it got the point across. It was a bit hard to tell that the enemies in the dream had my pictures on them due to the lighting (couldn't tell until the 2nd dream) The mirror scare at the end was neat but fell a little flat for me due to the lack of sound associated with it - if it's supposed to be a jump scare, adding sound might help. Would love to see this idea expanded upon, nice work!

jam373 2019-10-13 23:12

Really fantastic, loved the 3d painted world. The story really hit home, very disturbing. Absolutely love the use of the mirror! Would love to see more with this world/art style.

rodrigo-denubila 2019-10-15 12:52

Interesting concept. Graphics are really good, I really liked the painting fell of the scene. The gameplay is a little bit repetitive but I was surprised at the end when a I woke up and the mirror is still there. I don't get how this concept fits the theme but overall is a nice idea and a good game.

darefus 2019-10-16 14:42

really good feeling to dis, spooky aesthetic. left me wanting more audios but lov the narrative concept

projectaroid 2019-10-20 17:09

Interesting game and nice play on the jam's theme. Nice work.
