filipe-da-costa-lopes 2019-04-30 00:21

Do you have a part where you can not go any further in the game, or did I play it wrong? Well, I really liked it.

fahim-faysal 2019-04-30 07:36

@filipe-da-costa-lopes Thanks for the kind words. You should reach a thank you screen at the end. Did you get the third spell? The room after that is the final one. If the issue is what I think it is then I probably didn't include the final screen in the build. I'll investigate as soon as I get home. I have finish some university paperwork first.

fahim-faysal 2019-04-30 11:03

@filipe-da-costa-lopes I found the bug. There's now a fixed version on the link. The game should still be beatable if you look around the room for an eenmy that spawned outside.

slotha 2019-04-30 20:06

Very nice game, 1 lost track and played it for much longer than I should have, thought the enemies have way too much health and no indication of how much left, consider adding healthbars?

fahim-faysal 2019-05-01 03:54

@slotha All the levels were done at the last moment so I didn't really have time to balance things. In retrospect, making enemies take 6 spells to kill might have been a bit too much. On the bright side, I've found that lead t people getting impatient and playing more aggressively. The game gets much easier as you progress since the upgrades are not balanced either the later spells can one shot enemies if aimed correctly

sherlock527 2019-05-01 04:03

Fun game. The art looks really good and the mechanics fit the theme. The melee attack does feel a little off and difficult to use. Indicators pointing to the next room would have useful and a final boss would have been a cherry on top. Good job on the game.

fahim-faysal 2019-05-01 04:15

@sherlock527 Yeah I agree about the melee attack. The stabbing animation doesn't really match the. All of the art was done by an artist who collaborated with me. Sadly he had to leave on the second day. But the art was so good that I didn't want to change things.

I would have liked to add a final boss. My plan was to make it another mage who went the same path as you did. So you could also abuse how magic works to deal tons of damage to him. But I had to give up due to time constraints. I ended up publishing an hour before the final mark.

finalspace 2019-05-01 06:47

Fun game. Combat feels satisfying! Nice one

cubicode 2019-05-01 07:32

I really like the game. Especially the characters look great.

Two things which I would like to see are an option for windowed mode and a possibility to restart when the game is completed. But maybe I just didn't see them.

zesix 2019-05-01 07:37

This was actually a lot of fun. Overall production is great, though I'm not sure I like the melee attack - that felt out of place for this kind of game to me. Great job with the entry though!

fahim-faysal 2019-05-01 07:38

@cubicode Thanks for the kind words. The game doesn't save any data so relaunching the game should let you replay. I had to leave out a pause menu/ title menu due to time constraints. As for the windowed mode option, unity should've handled that automatically. My last ludum dare entry was also made in unity and the build had a window and graphics option by default. I'm not sure why there isn't one in this build.

zax 2019-05-01 08:24

nice ! our games have the same concept but different art style ! good job

ryano 2019-05-01 08:37

I enjoyed using the spells. As others have said the melee wasn't as satisfying. Good job, had fun.

fahim-faysal 2019-05-01 09:26

@ryano @zesix About the melee attacks, I added them so that the player would be want to take more risks when pushed to a corner. Like the push forward combat in doom. The fastest way to recover from a risky position would be to take more risk. The end result was a bit different. I think the melee attack needs much more polish, incentives.

@zax Thanks. I tried out your game too. It's always interesting to to how similar but slightly different interpretations can create different games.

dflinders 2019-05-01 11:29

Cool characters .. fun game. nice!

jofersgames 2019-05-01 12:58

really fun game, and loved the art :)

john-snyder 2019-05-01 14:19

It was a fun game, melee attacking felt a little slow to me due to the animation and the game could really benefit from music. Overall, good job!

boxedmeatrevolution 2019-05-01 14:20

Great art, and I love the idea of making magic use a risk, and forcing melee combat! As others have mentioned, some polish was missing (the character moved a bit slow, and the melee attack didn't look threatening, making melee fighting less enjoyable than it could have been). Nevertheless, there was a lot of content and thought packed into the game and its mechanics. Good entry!

sleepqt 2019-05-01 14:29

Fun game, really like mechanics and art looks great. I was so scared by the sound of the door closing, adds the atmosphere xD

max-torn 2019-05-01 14:29

Cool animation, not a bad drawing. But the game is very slow. And the cards are overly huge, either more vrogov is done or less.

fahim-faysal 2019-05-01 14:55

@jofersgames @dflinders Thanks a lot =D.

@max-torn Yeah I agree about the speed. I think it is a combination of the the huge sprite size, the small viewing area and the large rooms. I don't know if I'm going to rework the game later but those are the first things I'd change. In my opinion Enter the Gungeon had perfect room size So I think I'm gonna replay that to get a better feel. The spell icons are indeed too large and do not fit the game.

@boxedmeatrevolution @john-snyder Thanks. yeah the melee combat needs some serious rework. It's actually pretty OP since you can stunlock an enemy once you get close. But right now it lacks visual punch. The same goes for charge attacks. I should've at least put some particle effects there.

@sleepqt Thanks. I added the sound at the last moment and I only had enough time for one. I'm glad that you like it.

yadi 2019-05-01 22:32

lmao! I got a nice butt and everything. cool game bro! good job

balance686 2019-05-02 05:13

I really like the player and enemy sprites. The player is especially smooth. You made good use of the theme and I like the wagering health mechanic you implemented. As was already mentioned, the movement is a bit slow and the melee feels a bit off. Also on the WebGL build the top of the screen is cut off so you can't see what you're wagering. I enjoyed it nonetheless - congrats on finishing!

fahim-faysal 2019-05-02 05:17

@yadi Thank You! @balance686 Can't believe I didn't notice that about the webgl build. I'l fix it ASAP. Thanks.

paprigames 2019-05-02 05:23

Fun but a bit easy game! Good job!

shaolin-dave 2019-05-02 05:54

First just wanted to note that your link only says "Windows". If I didn't click on it on accident, I wouldn't have even realized you had a Web Player version. A lot of people will only play browser bases games, either because they don't have Windows (like me), or they don't feel comfortable downloading so many apps. I highly suggest showing that you have an HTML5 version on this play to modivate more people to play.

I noticed you used stock door open/close effects, was it the only AOL sound library? Anyway, unless you recorded those yourself, you should opt out on "Audio" voting. Some sounds for attacks/hits would have been great too.

It looks like you just put a semi-transparent black layer over the floor to make the walls? That's a clever time-saving way to make the barriers clear while still using a good texture. I did notice you kept the skybox on for some reason, I think a solid black background would be better.

I love the way the sprites looks, though the animations aren't great (the melee attack sort of looks like humping). I'd like to see more sprite art like that.

As for the theme, I'm seeing a log of ones that interpret it like this. "Your life is currency" implies you're using your life to purchase goods and services, these seem more like your powers/abilities hurt you that and sort of exchange of wealth.

One last thing, I like how you controlled the flow of the game with the doors locking/unlocking.

fahim-faysal 2019-05-02 06:09

@pabricka Thanks.Yeah the game is a bit too easy. With all the revives and healing , I don't think anyone's going to be seeing the game over screen. Whihc is a good thing since I didn't make one =P

@shaolin-dave Good point, I uploaded the webgl version recently, So forgot to mention it. I'll fix the desc ASAP.

I did use an external sound effect that didn't require credit. I didn't actually realize that you could opt out of categories at first. When I did realize it, I couldn't remove the category. maybe it's because some people had already voted on it. If there is any way to fix that, please let me know.

Yes, the borders are a hack. My artist only had time for one tile. So I recolored it. I don't think anyone except you even commented on it. The sky box was an oversight on my part.

Yeah sacrificing health for power is quite common this time. i still think wagering with the devil is pretty fun. I don't think there's any other game with that mechanic. It's a pity, I'd have like to see a gambling game where you bet your life to play poker with the devil.

insanitycode 2019-05-02 07:01

Really cool game. I love the walking animation of that little guy. You got a typo in "Double number of Projectiles for advanced spelss" :)

notekri 2019-05-02 09:29

I really enjoyed playing your game, its a fun game. The game is well made, and the graphics are good. Well done.

fahim-faysal 2019-05-02 09:34

@insanitycode Thanks. I didn't notice the typo. Then again I was half asleep by that point. @notekri Thank you!

suchista 2019-05-02 13:50

Graphics are really great, this main character is pretty well animated, he walks cutely! I found some bugs, I got stuck in one room with two exits but they were closed and I killed all my enemies and couldn't get out of the room. I'm not sure what I need to do here, because I'm walking and fighting my enemies and I got three spells and then I see the "thanks for playing the game" screen before I even get the chance to use dash. Did I win or did I broke something? Also the hit box is too big because bullets disappear before they hit the character. I also think that music would make a huge difference, this silence is a little bit boring. My LV is rising, but when the progress bar is full it disappear and is rising again. I don't have any information about on what LV I am or how much I leveled up. Anyway congrats for the game :)

fahim-faysal 2019-05-02 13:56

@suchista Thanks. If you got all three spells then it shouldn't be a bug. Unless you're playing the older version which had some issues. The thank you screen appearing immediately is an oversight on my part. Same with the music. I din't have enough time to add it. I think the game is a bit too short but thank you for liking it.

paul59 2019-05-02 16:45

A pretty neat little game, shame we don't have any blasting or slashing sound effects! Reading the instructions I though melee should be avoided but it turned out it was pretty much essential. Nice work!

mrarc 2019-05-02 16:51

Real nice graphics and animation. The door sound effects were kind of jarring though (didn't expect it the first time). Good job!

frog5tar 2019-05-02 16:56

Interesting Game, my suggestions out be a Soldout type thing in the store ui so you know when you have maxed out or brought something, and of cause longer levels, a minimap would be nice as well as found my self walking around aimlessly at the start when i didn't have dash looking for the next level :)

wolf-flare 2019-05-02 17:22

The character is wonderful, but the else is not really nice. But the game was a big fun!

douglima 2019-05-02 20:21

It works pretty well. The character art is good too. A fun game to play, just need feedback on the combat and some audio adjustments. Good job!

icxon 2019-05-03 06:04

I was just starting to have fun and game completed  need more levels for the endgame.

Here is my playthrough:

https://youtu.be/X1MLeQIql9E

fahim-faysal 2019-05-03 07:46

@icxon Thank you! I can't believe someone would do a playthrough of the game. It gave me a great chance to properly look at the issues the others mentioned. I noticed that you patiently waited for the health to refill which means you never saw the revive screen. That is a huge design flaw and I can't believe I didn't notice it. Also, thank you for your patience in exploring the rooms so much. It made me realize that the rooms were needlessly big and need to be trimmed down.

Once again a huge thank you for doing this. I really appreciate it.

fahim-faysal 2019-05-03 07:52

@paul59 Thank you. I tried to encourage melee as much as possible.

@frog5tar Thank you. I appreciate the feedback on the UI. I agree that it was needlesly confusing and a simple checkbox would've been better. A directional indicator to the next door is also a very good idea.

@douglima Thank you. I'll try to add some fitting sfx on the postjam version.

@wolf-flare Thank you. The art was done by someone else but I'm happy that you like it.

eduardo-yukio 2019-05-04 19:27

Things I didn't like: - The melee attack is very lackluster. Its animation is too clunky, it doesn't indicates the range of the attack very well, and if I was walking to the left and attacking to the right, it continued to attack to the left. I don't know if it was inteded or not, but anyways, it's confusing. I only used spells for the entire game. - Sometimes the red monsters don't blink when taking damage. - Very easy: the life is currency theme didn't even offer any difficulty, I just spammed spells and my life would be regenerated on the next update room. - Unbalanced: the dash and the other spells are overpowered and it costs just a little health. - It ends too abruptly. I think if it had just one more room with a very strong boss would make it more rewarding and less sudden.

Things I liked: - The animations of the spells are very good. It was very satisfying to use them. - The sprites are very beautiful!

pixel-boy 2019-05-07 14:13

The game is not perfect, it could be improved in terms of visual feedback and game feel, but despite of that it works well and I found it quite inspiring !

nikita-demidov 2019-05-07 20:18

A really good game. But at the beginning it's a bit too hard and at the end too easy (2nd spell). Good Luck!

derek-volker 2019-05-11 13:16

The mechanics felt a bit odd to me, i didnt really comprehend it even after playing. Specially the melee attack felt unresponsive, as i didnt could track when it will land and where.

The characters were really well made, but i find the scenario didnt match them in quality. Also, the lack of a soundtrack makes the game less than it could be.

dk5000p 2019-05-21 18:02

The game ends a little abruptly and was not really sure if I was charging the melee attack, so an indicator for that would have been great. The game desperately needed some music and sound effects to make it feel more alive. I liked the artwork and animations. The main character was fun and I liked the demons also.
