Ha! Hilarious take on the theme. I love full commitment to a bit!
Pffheh, this was a fun little one. Can't turn down a title starring Quaker's Oats-- fairly enjoyable and humorous submission.
I like how it was kind of like a stealth game, but the second enemy type made it play a lot differently. I found it a bit easy though. I think the enemy type that chases you once they can see you should be a little faster so it is harder to get away from them.
Cute use of theme and nice sprite work! I wish the camera gave you more of a sense of where you were about to go -- screen transitions caused me to run into people a lot. But it was a fun experience overall!
Amazing game! I absolutely loved the humor of it all. You had me laughing out loud both reading the games description and playing. Awesome, clean, enjoyable, funny. Solid entry my dude!
I agree with @carlsonandpeeters screen transitions didn't make any sense, i would go for stuck or lerped camera following mode, since it would be more pleasing to the eye.
I also lacked some backstory about why the main character is doing what hes doing, even a text would suffice, since we all had the time limit of 2/3 days.
@c1fr1 Yeah, I agree - I generally try to err on the side of making my LD games a bit easy so that people will be more likely to play them all the way through, but I overshot it this time. You're totally right that the enemies who chase you aren't quite the threat they were intended to be.
@carlsonandpeeters & @dioinecail The screen transitions were an experiment that didn't quite work out. I've found that a lerped camera can be tough to tune just right, so was trying something different this time. Ah well!
Thanks for playing and for the great feedback so far!
Really funny game and super easy to pick up on. Great job!
I always wanted to play a Quaker--he's the LIFE of the party! Fun game. I enjoyed the increasing complexity of the maps. Sometimes the collision detection doesn't work and as a result the game is too easy to beat. But it's nice and easy for those not wanting to get pummeled to death in the first minute. Nice job!
A super simple and fun little game. The graphics and music is overall really good. The controls is okay, but the camera placement is not always super great. Over a good LD game. Well done.
Nice game! I liked the music and the easy controls. Only thing I would change is to make the camera look a bit more ahead, when it follows the character. Nice job!
I had good fun playing this. Don't know why, but I've always liked the Quaker Oats guy.
Very nice little game where everything works as it should. Gameplay was really good, tight and predictable. Nicely done AI for the enemies. Graphics and audio work and give that 80's DOS feeling a bit. A solid job and a very nice effort in the compo time frame!
Enjoyable. I would've like to see more gameplay elements though! Still, good fun.
This whole game is a pun and I love it.
Funny take on the theme. I beat it with a score of 9600. I think it is best to never shoot the bad guys (since they get after a short time anyway, and if you miss it could be worse than getting hit), so I just avoided them after the first or second level.
The camera snap movement made it hard to see when there was someone just ahead of the player. Overall great work.
This was fun. I actually appreciate the easy games, when I need to play through a lot of games. I also like your rebellious take on the theme. There's some issues with AI, they tend to gather together too much, and it feels like they are not damaging enough, this could be due to the invulnerability period more than the actual damage. Still, thats nitpicking its a fun game and quite polished, both the graphics and the tune are enjoyable. Splendid work!
Fun game, the camera could be better, but I liked searching for the cereal boxes and dodging the enemies. Learned eventually that shooting wasn't really worth the cost. I liked the music as well, and the character art.
I love how you interpreted the theme as life being "life cereal". Really great, and funny, graphics, and the sound effects/music are really fitting. Great game!
Nice music and interesting take on the theme, my score was 9700. I found the levels quite easy, since the enemies are not much of a threat. So you can just run around until you find the life boxes.
Good game! I loved the idea of the game, good music. I have enjoyed play it.
Really enjoyed this game, though I agree that the enemies could be made more dangerous. Very well-rounded game in all categories too. Reminded me a lot of the old "The Grinch" game on the GameBoy Color, so it was particularly nostalgic for me
What's the name of that classic arcade game where the character is so tall he takes up most of the screen? Wish I could think of it. Anyway the main character's tallness reminds me of this... whether it's a game "trope" or not. Wish I could think of the name of the game. I found it sufficiently challenging and short for it's flatness. not bad
