Great concept, great music, great instructions, great everything (fantastic job!). I found one bug though that makes the game unplayable if triggered. If you try to combine two cubes at the altar before being told that you can do so, a line of text pops up that you can't move on from, and you can't do anything when the text is on the screen. If you fix this, you'll have a game worth crying over (tears of joy of course)!

pukami 2018-12-03 06:12

Very simple, yet it was lots of fun trying out the various combinations!

s4m4di 2018-12-03 06:15

good game, but it takes time to get somewhere

nate-wec 2018-12-03 06:26

Interesting! It reminds me of something like cookie clicker, as in, building up points to get new things to see how they look. I especially like the cube look, the little animal cube fellas look nice and cute! The music is alright but I found myself turning it off for a while. Also When I put two cubes in before I was supposed to in the tutorial and it glitched out, also when I clicked the blue cube button it started the highlight group selection thing (Might be my mouse but figured I'd point that out) Anyhow great game!

amanda-priest 2018-12-03 06:33

@jackson-makes-games thanks  thanks for letting me know. @nate-wec Thanks. Lol yeh the music was my first attempt at ever making music so that's why I make a mute music button

nate-wec 2018-12-03 06:34

@amanda-priest The exact same thing I tried with my first attempt at music!

khaotom 2018-12-03 06:59

I had an orange cube once, but it turned blue again somehow :crying_cat_face: I do enjoy my little zoo though :island:

amanda-priest 2018-12-03 07:11

@khaotom Sorry! That was a bug. I have fixed that now though so that shouldn't happen again.

vinay-rao 2018-12-03 08:04

Quite a zen experience, if you manage to forget about the whole squishing thing. Would be interesting to see more interaction between the evolutions.

vilix64 2018-12-03 08:39

Hi, it appears that the Linux version you provided is actually a Windows one. The game looks interesting and intriguing. Could you, please, provide the Linux build?

sanyingli 2018-12-03 08:42

lol very fun idea, I guess all life comes with blue cube, and the blue cube must die! just joking, I really like the result they finally evolve into animals. If there are more gameplay about gaining blue cube instead of spawning them, it would be even more interesting. Overall, it's a nice game. Congrats on your first Ludum Dare!

mzhovnach 2018-12-03 08:44

It took about 5 minutes for me to figure out how to move

amanda-priest 2018-12-03 12:01

@vilix64 I totally forgot to upload the Mac and Linux versions! I'm so sorry. I just added them both  The game hasn't been tested on either platform but hopefully it works the same as Windows.

zanagi 2018-12-03 12:04

Trying out different combinations was fun Though, after while I started to forget them, would be great if the game would tell you the combinations that you've discovered (just because I'm lazy and don't want do it by hand myself :D) Great job on your first LD and good luck in the future!

amanda-priest 2018-12-03 12:08

@zanagi Thanks! I was planning on adding that but I sadly ran out of time in the end. Glad you enjoyed it!

oxrock 2018-12-03 15:12

It's so easy to think too big, especially on your first entry. With your tutorial, things were easy enough to understand at least. Congrats on completing your first entry! I think what you did is interesting and I love the splatty sacrifice sound :)

2018-12-03 15:19

Very fun and Innovative! A little bit repetitive but still fun, like a cookie clicker game.

r3l0ad1 2018-12-03 17:00

Lovely artstyle and music, very good concept with a good tutorial, although, you should make it more clear that it is right click to move...

theseusinabottle 2018-12-03 18:18

Great game and an interesting use of a sacrifice mechanic.

nakami 2018-12-04 21:40

Very nice game, I like to evolve all cube to the max.

Only on stuff to say, you should put left click to select and to move just use tag or layer and if you have one or more cube selected when you click left move the selected cube. And you can use right click to deselect if you want.

anton-savinov 2018-12-04 22:01

Yellow cube didn't happen for me in the tutorial so I got stuck.

amanda-priest 2018-12-05 06:45

@anton-savinov did you put 2 blue cubes into the altar at one time? Sorry there has been a few bugs with the tutorial. Or maybe you haven't evolved a cube?

evogengames 2018-12-05 08:53

Hi there,

I like the mute music button, but I didn't use it. The music was fantastic! However this game I think should really go for a zen vibe. Try to use some more relaxing/softer tones. That would really kick the mood up to the next level.

Gameplay wise this reminds me of the 2048 tile merging games. And i'm a big sucker for those games. your version of was worth it to play. The tutorial was very nice and is something I need to take more into consideration for my games. What I didn't really understand was the balance between evolving or crushing 2 of the same type. I only played up untill the 4th color so maybe that's why evolve mechanic had no clear purpose to me.

Anyway, you did a great job here! thanks for the game!

amanda-priest 2018-12-05 11:09

@evogengames Thanks  I guess the purpose of the evolution was get to cute animals haha and crushing them got you way more points than just crushing a cube of that colour. So it makes it easier to get more cuter animals :D

evogengames 2018-12-05 12:51

yeah but do they earn more points than the total cost of them? It looked like in the end I lost more points than I invested in them. Didn't really do the math so I might be wrong on that.

Thanks for the reply though

amanda-priest 2018-12-05 13:25

@evogengames haha very true. I just did some maths and there really isn't a huge benefit currently. I will rescale the points to make it worth while. It's funny I didn't really take into consideration the multiple evolutions when giving the final amount. Thanks for the heads up.

drauce 2018-12-05 16:23

After crushing the first cube in the tutorial the game just stuck for me, leaving the score at 10/50. Sadly couldn't play past that, as the mechanic seemed interesting :(

amanda-priest 2018-12-05 22:38

@drauce I'm sorry to hear that :sob: was the game stuck frozen or was the altar just not working? By trying to make the tutorial interactive I've sadly ran into lots of bugs.

drauce 2018-12-05 23:03

@amanda-priest The game got stuck at the "Ooohh... Sorry little guy!" -text. The game was still running normally but there was no OK -button or such to progress with the text. Couldn't use the altar after that nor move the slimes.

shrekshao 2018-12-05 23:40

I also stuck at “Ooohh… Sorry little guy!”

amanda-priest 2018-12-06 00:29

@drauce @shrekshao OK thanks for letting me know. I will have a have a look at it when I get home.

shrekshao 2018-12-06 00:38

Really curious to see how this game works. cuz I originally want to do some spices evolving living, genetic algorithm related games. Hope to see your updates (I'm windows user might give you some hints for the bug?) @amanda-priest

nightvision65 2018-12-06 02:11

The“Sorry little guy!” bug stuck me. Hope it will be fixed soon.

100th-coin 2018-12-06 04:38

I too got stuck at the same line as the others. The game still looks and sounds very nice though!

amanda-priest 2018-12-06 06:45

@blobo @nightvision65 @shrekshao @drauce Ok guys I fixed the bug. So sorry about that. I messed something up when I fixed the points scaling yesterday  I have added an addition button just incase a different part of the tutorial bugs so you can at least continue on.

drauce 2018-12-06 09:17

@amanda-priest Thanks! It started working now. And at some point it also stopped working again, when I was at like x/1810 points -tier. Either way, I like the possibilities you can evolve (heh) the game into! The music was also nice and chill. Very nice atmosphere!

hystaf 2018-12-06 11:57

A great Toys, maybe not a great game but I really like the idea. It's cut and easy to learn so good job.

amanda-priest 2018-12-06 13:17

@hystaf I was originally planning on more of an RTS but obviously that is a huge scope haha and the small idea for the sacrifice part of the game was the only thing I really got the implement. Next time I will not scope so big  thanks for the play.

jimbly 2018-12-07 00:34

I seem to have gotten stuck where the Sacrificial Squisher stopped working - if I put a cube under it, and press Sacrifice, nothing happens, or it squishes down and the cube survives and I get nothing. If I move the cube out, then it'll let me squish down, but obviously get nothing :(.

I liked experimenting and evolving and seeing what I could find until it got stuck ^_^.

amanda-priest 2018-12-07 01:12

@jimbly thanks for playing and the feedback. Ah sorry about that I will have to check it out. Was it when you were only squishing 1 cube?

jimbly 2018-12-07 01:16

I think the first time it failed to work I was trying to squish two cubes (or maybe there were three rather close), and then it never squished anything after that, whether one cube, two cubes, or evolved cubes. I seem to recall the mouse got stuck in "click and drag rectangular selection" mode right around then too - went away when I clicked, but might have been related, or another bug, but was unable to sacrifice after that.

amanda-priest 2018-12-08 00:02

@jimbly Thanks for that. I think I have managed to fix those bugs and the drag selection issue. Also added a skip tutorial button.
