This is great! Could do with being fleshed out a bit, but the art and sounds are both great (the sounds being very amusing).

Woah, maing this in 48 hours must have been hard ! An isometric-tactical game is probably not the first thing most of people will think of with this theme, so good job for the originality ! It's a neat tactics game but I think there could be something added to make the player continue playing aftrer the first battle, because from what I've seen, the second battle is exactly like the first one aside from the map layout. Maybe adding an extra unit each time you win or something like that, so the battles can feel more and more intense. But it was still pretty cool :D
Well done on completing something with a large scope :) Now prove you can take the mechanics and make it sing :) By that, I meant that the game works and everything works well enough, but the game lacks interesting decisions, and the shrinking arena doesn't really feel like it interacts much with the rest of the game, it's probably added just for the theme.
Definitely impressive amount of work that went into this, looks great, but needs more game design love!
@dangogamedev: Thanks, I'm glad you like it. Sounds are made in despair about 2 hours before deadline :)
@talios: It was, next time in the sake of my sanity I'll made something simple, this was too much. Yeah, leveling/equiping units would be nice but I don't want to see it for a while :D
@tuism: you're right - to be honest I wanted to make this kind of game before theme was announced and after that I was trying to mount the theme onto this game :) But I think it's nice mechanics which adds more tactical options, the shrinking is too slow though.. It should shrink faster so you almost always run out of space. It would be more interesting I guess..
@talios, @tuism: Anyway it's nice you've noticed amount of work I putted into it :) If I have more time, I would ballance parameters better and polish it a lot better.. but game jam is always about tradeofs..
I like me some turn based strategy and this one doesn't disappoint and to think that you made it in only 48 hours, wow. The map shrinking as you may know it's pretty useful, it doesn't give that feel of "OH SHIT, I'M RUNNING OUT OF SPACE" that it should, maybe it would have been better if it shrank every turn starting from turn 2 but it is still fun. Congratulations on this achievement.
@redbc: You're right, unfortunately I hadn't time to actually play the game for a while and tweak parameters. Now I've tried to change it and when it shrinks every turn, it's more interesting. You have to use terrain and manipulate opponent to danger zone.. I'll publish it as post-compo version maybe. Thanks for playing!
Cute game, I like it. I'm impressed with the tile artwork, they look great. The scout felt pretty useless to me though. Tactical games are pretty fun, I may have to attempt one soon.
@rk3omega: Thanks, I'm glad you like it :) I spent some time working on the grass tile but others are basically about copy&paste&change colors.
The scout can be used for manipulating opponents to place where you want them (somewhere near border) and it has enough action points to run away if necesary. And my original idea was that scout is a flying unit so it can fly over empty tiles. It would be way more useful if the map shriks every turn not every second turn.. maybe in post-compo version.
Really liked this little gem. Love that the the game board falls down around you and closes in. The sound effects cracked me up too. The action point system looks like it would add a layer of depth and strategy as well.
My bit of feedback: Maybe start the player closer to the enemies so that they can get right into the action. My first few turns were just movement. Skipping to the action right away might be a bit more fun.
Great work!
super cute and impressed with what you're able to do in godot.!!!
@starvingindie: Thank you very much! I agree it needs ballacing all the parameters.. size of the map, unit placing, action points, cost of actions, frequency of shrinking map and more. I just run out of time, maybe I'll try it in post-compo version.
@hi-irie: actually godot helped me a lot. Without it's TileMap and AStar class I wouldn't make it.
I enjoyed this one very much. A stronger AI would be nice, but it's 48 hours... The shrinking world sometimes allowed some great tactics, although that needed some help from the terrain generator.
First entry to make me laugh. The sounds for the dudes were unexpected, +1 for randomized bark, memories of Warcraft3 unit barks came flooding in. Cool little entry.
The destroying of the map is a nice little twist  it was just the right difficulty (at least for me)
The game is epic for the compo!) Very neat artstyle and musics fits perfectly! Grate job!
Perhaps it's worth making a second level which could be a little more challenging. For example make 2 parties of enemies: scout+scout near the player and knight+archer in a distance. So that scouts block the player near the edge while other two come to the center and wait for player
Really glad to see turned-based entry with this theme! Love it. It would need some tweaks as already mentioned but you did a really great job, considering what you were able to fit in. Congrats, really nice job!
Not too bad! The map gen is solid and the map destroying around you worked really nicely with this style of game! It's not contributing much to say that variability would make it more interesting, that's always the case in jams :p Really good stuff for the time constraints!
Pretty cool game. I like turned based strategy games. The map destroying itself is a nice touch and gives you a sense of urgency. Congrats on completing your game!
Great work, and thanks for shipping a Linux version. Looks really nice, didn't come across any bugs. The sounds were funny. Music would have been great, but you must have already been pretty stretched as it was! Very impressive entry IMO.
That was fun, glad to see another Godot game, I have been wanting to make an iso game for awhile. I did have a hard time attacking with my sword guy some times he just wouldn't attack the guy next to him so I just had to run him around. Archer was fun and had a good sound to the bow. Good work!
Very impressive game, especially as compo! The aesthetics are neat and the concept is immediately understandable. The map change did matter little in my match, where i closely won. Maybe it could be more interesting if it was not only coming from the edges, otherwise you just meet in the middle. The sound effects are prett funny :D The only thing that surprised me rulewise that the range of my arche is limited by how far he can go. I would have expected him to always be able to shoot the same distance. Overall, great entry!
@rongo-matane: Thanks, I'm glad you like it. Distance is limited by available action points. Which doesn't make sense for the archer, I agree. I didn't think about it this way before. Attack costs 3 action points but range should be always the same. Good point.
Oh, thanks for linking to my Let's Play, much appreciated! :)
Great game! Very cool and interesting! :D
@philstrahl hey :p
Definitely a very ambitious project for the compo and congrats on shipping it :) I enjoy the overall presentation especially the funny sounds the units make. The gameplay aspect is unfortunately a bit lacking as it mostly ends up just colliding in the middle and the shrinking not really mattering all that much. Would be great to see some more use of the terrain and other ways of attacking like setting traps. Overall still a really good entry!
God I had more fun with this then I should have xD. Jokes aside, I always love strategy games and this certainly is a Ludum Gem. While you never really feel any preasure from the world slowly pulling a battle royal effect on me, it does force engagements to not last forever as sometimes these Final Fantasy tactics like games do. More info like range and cost per action would be nice but overall a wonderfull game done in very little time. Particularly id like to point out that, ad least to strategy game veterns (as was my case) no reading was requiered, which is dificult to pull of with these kinds of games.
Only thing to work on if you chose to continue this game is to prehapes make the out realm (the part that disapears) preassure both teams a little more, maybe making more drop off with more frequency. Another solution would be to increase the team size (less space to manuver with a bigger team may result in the "edge" being more of a threat).
As I said fantastic work maybe come share your game at our discord https://discord.gg/amwhTDX
Excellent! This was a very nice little turn based game! It works well, matches the theme and has it's share of much needed quirkiness :) Great Job!
