Very fun mix of genres, great work!

balance686 2018-04-25 21:15

Lots of fun to play! The aesthetics are gorgeous and the music/sound are great! I like the variety of weapons as well. Very polished - great job guys!

mashas 2018-04-25 21:32

Before playing I thought, please please let there be awesome synthwave music. After playing, you know, chiptunes are awesome too! Great mood with excellent 80's colors and tron-like art.

The enemies just kept on respawning on top of me so I found it easier just pushing the ball around the course after making the first swing. The shot power was a bit hard to control and the ball went over the wall a couple of time though it also made me score a hole in on on the first course by accident. ;)

Great job team!

minibobbo 2018-04-25 21:34

This was fun! Good visuals and music. I was able to get a hole in 1 on almost every level by putting the ball really softly and then pushing it into the hole since physics affect the ball until it comes to rest.

The multiple weapons and enemy types were a neat touch!

manimal 2018-04-25 21:39

My windows defender was complaining but I launch it finally I like the retrowave-like looklike. When I fall of the map, I am unable to continue :(

travis-w-hendrix 2018-04-25 22:06

Wow, this is a really fun, full-featured game! Fun concept, gameplay is perfectly smooth, and the graphics are wonderfully stylized. Music and SFX were great too, although it's a bit strange how the music pans around depending on which direction the player is facing.

Really impressive, especially for a LDJ game. Nice work!

I like the neon look and how well the audio works with it. The idea itself is interesting and flipping between the first person and the birds eye view felt good. Some thoughts you might find interesting:

1. Was a little bummed out I could not bonk the enemies with the ball in golf mode. That would be dope! 2. I sorta, kinda might have forgotten the controls immediately after jumping into the game. 😅 A cheatsheet hidden under a button would be handy in such situations. 3. The mouse sensitivity felt a bit high for an fps game. 4. It's usually tough to get physics right and I think you did a good job considering how little time there is in a jam. One thing I'd maybe look at is how easy it is to send the ball out of track bounds - it happened really often in my playthrough.

All that being said, I had fun with the game. It looks and sounds good and the tracks are interesting enough to keep me playing. I also appreciate the little details - the gun names and the cute little faces the enemies would make both made me smile. 10/10, would Overcompensate again. 😄

Thanks for trying our game!

@manimal: Sorry to hear you had problems, you can always reset the current level by pressing Backspace :)

@travis-w-hendrix: Oh, the music bug, you're completely right. Forgot to fix it after all :I

@auxc: Thank you for your suggestions! The Overcompensator is my favourite too :P. I really like your idea of bumping enemies away with the ball, that would be hilarous :). And yeah, the physics were a little challenging, I think the tracks need to be a bit wider as well, the player faster... we might improve upon this jam :)

I LOVED this!! Very nice incorporation of the theme and especially graphically beautiful. Nice work!!

hs-dave 2018-04-28 14:15

Good fun to play! looks amazing and the sound is excellent. I did find a way to "cheat" a bit - when you've hit the ball and it becomes affected by colliders you can push it with your body - so you can give it a little tap and then "walk" it around challenging obstacles without needing to keep retrying to accumulating swings.

Really fun theme with this one, super nice.

samboyer276 2018-04-28 15:15

This game is amazing! Congrats to all of you for making such an incredible experience in such a short time, it really feels like a released game. The graphics and audio are of exceptional quality and the idea perfectly fits the theme while still being fun. It's 5/5 in nearly all the categories :D I think there could be a couple of bug-related improvements to be done (some issues where the ball wouldn't be hit when you release left mouse and right mouse around the same time, physics interactions between the player and the ball etc.) but these are really only minor. Thanks for making such a fun game, really enjoyed it :)

This is so cool, I love it, I live for it, this is the best of the best, you'll win.

macdoom 2018-04-28 18:12

Superb submission! Loved the aesthetics and the music goes along perfectly! The sooting and the golf combines really well giving all the action of FPS to golf. Nice concept behind the mechanics. It's easy for the ball to bounce and get off-bounds so a little less power gauge could come on handy. Loved this game =O)! 5/5

rick95 2018-04-28 19:49

Really amazing game!!! Sometimes the swing gets buggy, and it's a bit annoying in 4th level. Anyways, very nice graphics, audio and even the game feel!

yngvarr 2018-05-02 06:49

The last two levels are the blast! =D Really cool! I had to restart the game just to check the controls but still it is an absolute retrowave fun! I love that sprite guys with their animations and the rotating tesseract inside the ball. Awesome work!

yorsh 2018-05-02 19:03

It looks great and plays well! Imo it takes too much time for the ball to stop or reset tho, I would like it way more fast paced in a FPS game.

utho 2018-05-02 19:53

@Yorsh Thanks! And yup, we're working on the ball mechanics still, it's definitely gonna be faster.

menushka 2018-05-03 03:09

Awesome game shooting enemies felt like a real fps and hitting that golf ball felt just like a golf game. Was the music moving with the ball or something because I would notice it cutting in and out in different ears. Otherwise super cool game!

mosesg 2018-05-03 15:47

This has to be one of my favorite entries of this jam! Love the aesthetics, they fit nicely to the gameplay and are really well done. The graphics look great and the mechanics are well implemented; I also like the two genres you combined it's pretty unique, fits together nicely and is really fun to play. Aside from a few physics-hiccups, the rather glitchy looking reflections (that fortunately fit the aesthetic) and the fact that one map didn't spawn for me, I really enjoyed this! Good job!

mic-matrix91 2018-05-06 13:02

Wow I love this game! Amazing graphics, I like expecially the 2D art, the colors and the weird mirror effect and lights on the walls.. amazing music and audio effects. Very original idea, this game is perfect!

themonsterfromthedeep 2018-05-06 23:17

I like this game. However, I think it might be just a little too difficult. It took me almost no effort to finish the first three levels, but the fourth level is incredibly difficult. The main problem is that the enemies respawn so quickly that you don't really have time to shoot the ball, and when you do, you almost certainly miss.

The fifth level has a similar problem, but I managed to beat it on the second try.

tomlee 2018-05-09 00:37

Wow, loved the graphics on this one, and the gameplay was great too. Cool take on the theme. Would love to see more done with this. Congrats!

cristiano-m-garcia 2018-05-09 23:17

Great graphics and Fun gameplay.

I left my rating of your game, if you can leave your feedback in our game, Witch's Escape.

I hope you continue with the project.

sapazu 2018-05-10 12:54

Surplisingly fun to play :D Only thing I didn't like was that sometimes walking felt too slow, otherwise amazing game. Is it bug or feature that it is possible to push the ball around if ball is already moving?

2018-05-15 15:22

Hello ! :) I made a review of the jam including "Retroviral" : https://youtu.be/hLF7ZEp8C_M?t=565 Congratulations for this wonderful work, feel free to ask me for translation if needed. Have a nice day :)
