Hi, nice game and congratulations ! Simple mechanics that still offered a decent amount of challenge. We're realizing a video with several games of the Ludum Dare #36. We made the same thing at the previous jam.

Can you add your game on indiexpo.net ? (it's free)
So we can include also your game in the video ;)
p.s. write #LDJAM in the game's description. (you can already find several games from the jam there)

Interesting but I almost quit without finishing it. I was stuck with the Caesar cipher because I didn't know about the other one ^^
It would be nicer to move quicker.

I like the idea of using the ancient crypto methods.
The noir pixel-art is lovely and the whore game looks so polished, btw.

Well done!

I completed the game but there was zero way I was going to crack "that kind of cipher" by hand, that takes a lot of time! The player character could only seem to move one direction at a time which felt a bit odd... fun little puzzle overall.

facelesstheone 2016-09-02 15:11

Yup, the length of the keyword requires to use online decoders to break the cipher =) But still, good job!

I liked it and solved it, but I didnt get why the ceasar painting was there. The graphics are awesome!

Interesting game, very challenging puzzle! I like the mystery / crime-case aesthetic. As Allthebees mentioned, the player could only move in one direction (pressing W and D doesn't move the player diagonally), which felt odd.

However, I was really intent on solving the puzzle. I got that I had to decrypt the word on the paper using a Caesar cipher, but I didn't know by how many letters you had to shift the code. I tried 9 for 9 letters in "Cleopatra", or 7 for "Cleopatra VII Philophator", but neither gave me a sensible word.

Hi everyone. First, thanks everyone for playing and for actually trying to solve the cypher!

Now I'll try to answer some questions:

- tygrak, the Caesar's painting was there because the cypher that you have to use is based on the Caesar's cypher, which was one of the first cyphers ever made.

- kapricornmedia, <SPOILER> you have to use the vigenère cypher, which is based on the caesar cypher. It uses another word to encrypt a whole message. In this case, the message in the paper on the ground was created by summing the bomb's password with the cypher "cleopatra", which resulted in that nonsensical word. The amount of letters you use to shift depends on the word you use as cypher. The word "aaa", for instance, would shift every letter in the text by one.</SPOILER>

Thanks again for everyone playing this game! It's my second entry on LD and I'm very happy with it. o//

Wow, this is complicated 0.0 I spent a lot of time trying to solve this with the clues given, no idea I actually had to know ciphers

alkrimil 2016-09-03 09:18

Like the idea! Would be nice to see something like this, but with an inbuilt decoder (too hard for the amount of time). Very interesting concept, but the walking is a bit too slow! Keep up the good work.

It's a cool idea, but the clunky controls and lack of hints and tools in-game make it a very hard nut to crack.

The style is interesting though. Keep it up!

Pretty interesting concpet, game forces player to look for solution on the internet and gives him a chance to learn something new. When you complete the puzzle it gives you more satisfaction than solving more generic/typical game puzzle. Controlls are a little bit clunky but that's not so important in this game. I also liked the noir style.

svyatozar 2016-09-03 10:34

Tough challenge. Also movement is a bit slow for my taste.

alexandermerk 2016-09-03 11:01

Great pixel's, but movement really is a bit slow :(

jonathang 2016-09-03 16:01

I followed your hints about using the Vigenere Cipher and the password doesn't work. I used this site:
https://sharkysoft.com/vigenere/
Not sure what went wrong, maybe I'm just missing something...

tfrodrigues 2016-09-04 14:46

Hey JonathanG, I tried the site you mentioned and I believe it has a problem. It doesn't seem to work, because if I change either the input text or the secret key, the output stays the same. I suggest you try this one http://planetcalc.com/2468/. Thanks for playing the game! :-)

mathiouza 2016-09-06 18:11

Cool game ! That is cool to learn something through the game :)

cliffracerx 2016-09-08 07:11

Neat idea, if a tad confusing. Took some googling and retrying to get it right; when I got "Butterfty" out of my deciphering attempts, I knew I'd done something stupid, and resorted to Google codebreaking attempts, because solving puzzles at 3:15 in the morning is a futile effort. :P

Neat idea though; as others have flagged up, the lack of diagonal movement is weird, and the fact that the walk animation constantly plays is a bit...disorienting, but otherwise pretty good.
