| Oct 20 08:03:23 | The Margin Game | ♥ 1 | The line between art and technology has always been blurry but this game smears it across the whole canvas. We think of books as mundane objects now but there was a time when the idea of a book, and certainly a mass produced one with margins within which one might write notes or numbers, was indeed a world-changing technology. The revolutionary movable type printing press was invented by Johannes Gutenberg in 1439 and ushered in an era of unprecedented communication. What we now call a pencil came from the discovery of a particularly pure deposit of graphite. In fact no purer deposit has since been found. This lead to many further discoveries about the value of graphite. The term "lead" is used for the drawing part of pencils despite the fact that pencils have never contained elemental lead. Taking a book and pencil and making a game from it is undoubtedly art. I have played this game with several pages of several books and each time the experience is delightful. The rules are a little difficult to keep track of but I find that is part of the fun. Overall, this is an excellent entry made even better by the novel approach t fitting it into the theme. | |
| Oct 22 07:17:52 | 47h 14m | The Base for Old Creations | ♥ 1 | I think I got through the entire game, as it let me !>go to sleep I really enjoyed the atmosphere of this one. The sound effect of getting a new forum post was great. I liked how each repairable item had its own sound too. I'm not really sure I understood the story it was trying to sell but the writing on the forum posts was amusing anyway. I liked that the !>mana potion level had a different interaction as well. Thanks for sharing. |
| Oct 22 07:44:37 | 26m 45s | Answer with Light | ♥ 0 | I am pretty sure I made every possible wrong decision and got every single person killed. I didn't really understand how I was supposed to guide the ships I guess. I had a lot of fun though. The sounds when tuning the radio were great and when your buddy talked to you as well. I found the radio beeps a little intrusive but overall the sound design was well done. The framing of walking around within the lighthouse was a lot of fun. I especially liked how you mad to move from place to place to try to keep track of all the information. This was a really fun entry that I'll have to play again to see if I can do a better job. |
| Oct 22 07:59:31 | 14m 54s | The DogWood Hill Funicular | ♥ 0 | Well done on completing a game for the compo! I really liked the scenery you drew with the funicular and the plants on the walls and such. I just kinda chilled and watched the little dog things walk around for a while before I realized what I was supposed to do. I'm ashamed to say I crashed some of the poor souls but once I got the hang of operating the funicular I think I could have sustained for a long time. I quit with 80 passengers transported. I really enjoyed the subtle music and the sound effects were great. |
| Oct 22 08:26:24 | 26m 53s | Station Echo-Delta | ♥ 1 | I really liked this game even though I think I got a bad ending. !> I'm not sure what I could have done differently, maybe I waited too long to read the diary. The atmosphere was great and so was the writing. I really liked that everything was just a terminal and you did a good job with imlementing things like tab-complete and history browsing to make it feel natural. Very fun story to play through. |
| Oct 22 08:45:23 | 18m 59s | The Power Glove Odyssey | ♥ 1 | This was a simple but fun game. As another mentioned I didn't realize the ball was my friend at first and just ignored it until I got an upgrade that made me realize it was important. Before that I was a little frustrated at how long it took to kill the enemies, but the ball made it a lot more balanced. I enjoyed the music but I didn't feel like it really fit with the theme of the game. Great work overall, thanks for sharing. |
| Oct 22 10:23:08 | 1h 37m | REWIND 3000 | ♥ 1 | This was a great incremental game. I got all the way up to 100 galaxies and then I got bored. The pacing was great, as were the sound effects and music. I also enjoyed the visuals of the black hole from winding so fast. Great work on a tough genre to make fun. |
| Oct 23 14:13:06 | 27h 49m | HELL TOOLKIT | ♥ 0 | The startup worked fine for me on web so that's the version I played. I really liked the mood, especially with the single desk lamp and the audio went well with it. It was kind of hard to figure out what exactly I was supposed to be doing but in the end I did get the "good ending". Maybe some more directed animations on the tiles would help the player to understand what the tiles were doing. The door opening automatically after a round was kind of weird. Overall I quite liked the game and it was fun to figure out what the tiles did. Thanks for sharing. |
| Oct 23 23:00:09 | 8h 47m | Dr Break Boom Invaders | ♥ 1 | What an incredible frankenstein of games you have made here. I really liked the concept and the interactions between the games. I had never played Kaboom but the rest were very familiar and that one was easy enough to pick up. The audio was great (if anachronistic) and the visuals with the text were really well done. I found the CRT curve effect a little over the top, so maybe separate options for the curvature and scanlines would be nice. Well done and thanks for sharing this. |
| Oct 27 08:02:25 | 81h 02m | Like Clockwork | ♥ 1 | This was a surprisingly deep and challenging puzzle game. The difficulty ramp was really well done. The music and sound effects complemented the gameplay well. I had a little bit of trouble consistently placing gears with the mouse but that might have just been me. Thanks for sharing. |
| Oct 27 08:36:44 | 34m 19s | Merry & Bright & CRI ≥ 95 | ♥ 1 | I really loved this game. What a fun take on the theme and the idea of a map coloring problem. My only complaint is that there wasn't any cheesy christmas music to go with the lights. The hand-drawn notebook art style was really well done and worked well for the game. I particularly liked how the light pool was shared between all levels so I could go back and do something differently when I ran low on yellows as well. Great job and thanks for sharing. |
| Oct 27 08:50:47 | 14m 03s | Radio Active Wear | ♥ 1 | The sound design and the aesthetic in this one were the best I've seen. The pixelated photo look combined with the distortions were a really cool look, especially in full screen. It gave me vaporwave vibes and I loved it. The music combined super well with the rest. The gameplay it self I found a little bit lacking. It wasn't clear what the gas mechanic was for. Perhaps to punish misclicks? I always just waited until I was sure where the anomaly was to click so it didn't seem to make any difference. The sounds being linked to the lines passing through the anomalies was a great touch. Thanks for sharing this. |
| Oct 27 08:58:28 | 7m 41s | Old PC | ♥ 1 | I had fun with this one. I really liked the two layers concept with the game inside the game. Although both the levels were relatively simple it was pretty engaging, and even mildly stressful, to keep track of all the tasks to do. The timing of everything felt pretty fair and it was usually clear what I forgot when I lagged. I loved the vocalized sound effects and the minimalist art style as well. I think the only improvement would be some kind of way to score your attempt to try to improve. Thanks for sharing this. |
| Oct 27 09:10:15 | 11m 47s | Cyber Cquabble | ♥ 1 | To start, I didn't expect to find another NES speedrunner here but that's awesome :) Great job with the game. You really captured the sort of unfair arcade platforming feeling where every time I missed I jump I wasn't sure if it was my fault or not. The aesthetic with the text and flashing colors was spot on. I'm sorry to hear you didn't have time for audio because some bleepy sound effects would have really suited this. I struggled a lot of wave 8 but ultimately quit because I need to play other games. Thanks for sharing. |
| Oct 27 09:23:47 | 13m 32s | C-Major Dungeon | ♥ 0 | I really enjoyed playing this one. As some others have mentioned, I think I had an issue with the audio being delays somewhat significantly and that made it hard to know which beats the notes fell on. I guess there is some trick when the monsters change color but I wasn't able to understand it in time. Thanks for sharing this one, it was very fun. |
| Oct 27 09:35:38 | 11m 51s | Pinball "Repair" SIMULATOR | ♥ 1 | This was a stressful game to play. I tried to just mash the paddles while I was doing repairs but it was really no use. Maybe I'm too slow with the mouse but I basically couldn't do repairs without giving up my ball. In any case, despite the skill issues, I had a lot of fun with this game. The music and sounds worked really well. The graphics were a bit simple and that might be an area for more polish. Thanks for sharing this. |
| Oct 27 09:52:12 | 16m 34s | Radio Host | ♥ 1 | You really captured that creepy uncertain space with this one. The sound added a lot of atmosphere that I enjoyed. I liked tuning the radio but after I did the switches puzzle I got stuck and wandered around for a while. I still had fun playing and feel trapped and confused in a soviet lab. Thanks for sharing. |
| Oct 27 10:00:30 | 8m 18s | I Don't Even Knit, or Olde Castle | ♥ 1 | Really nice work on the pixel art for this one. The spinning wheel and the main character were really well done. I loved the animation for the main character but the movement speed didn't match it well so I felt very slow when moving. The tight spaces that blocked you from going a particular way were a nice callback and made exploring a slight challenge even without the planned combat. Overall, it was a short but satisfying collection platformer . Thanks for sharing. |
| Oct 27 10:10:17 | 9m 47s | Dirigible | ♥ 1 | The controls for the dirigible were surprisingly fun to play. The buoyancy was a little strange but the turning and power felt really well execute. The artwork for the ships went really well with the topological map. I couldn't figure out where the landing pad was for level 2 but otherwise I had a lot of fun with it. Thanks fofr sharing |
