Apr 21 17:04:38 90h 20m Chain Reaction ♥ 2 Nice game! I liked the music & art - both simple but fit the theme well. The mechanic was cool. There was definitely a learning curve to remember all of the different shapes and combos, but it wasn't too hard. I'm not sure I understood the 'beats' mechanic (or maybe it didn't work?) For instance, putting water up against fire and it seems the fire won? Almost like only one of them was actually attacking? But I enjoyed it - I played through a few times, it was fun and I felt like I was actually getting better! Nice job! It would have been good to have some actual sounds as well as the music (but also understand that's one of the first things to get cut when you are running low on time in a Jam!) Nice one! ldgame.png
Apr 21 17:20:05 15m 27s Ethereal Tower ♥ 2 The music is really nice and varied - very nicely done. I also enjoyed the gameplay itself, although I think the difficulty curve is a bit off - it started quite tricky with nothing you could really do, then got very easy as the level went on (I never had any need to use all of my currency). I played all the levels, I think the last 2 levels got the difficulty more spot-on (since you start with things), but then the level ended just as things were starting to challenge my defences. Game is pretty though, and the variety of towers is quite nice - good job!
Apr 21 19:27:20 2h 07m Return to the Kingdom of Calories ♥ 1 Nice game - cute theme and graphics, and I liked the story and music! Although I found the 'click to hold' mechanic a bit too difficult to use, so I ended up just sending a diverse army with good spacing. I played all the way through to the end, but looking at your screenshots, I think my game was too 'zoomed in' and I couldn't see the full map. I think that explains why sometimes my cookies would die after leaving the screen (and I couldn't see the oven on the left). Might be worth seeing if you can fix that (I tried on both my 1440p and 1080p monitors)
Apr 21 20:07:43 40m 23s Hoomans vs. Deemons ♥ 2 I had a really fun time playing this! I lost the first time (The single remaining enemy had thousands of population, and it was growing much faster than I could kill them), but the next time I learned to keep their populations in check so that didn't happen! I enjoyed it, so I played another couple of times at a higher difficulty, and that was fun too. I liked the difference in AI. Not sure if I was imagining it, but each of the enemies seemed to have a different personality. I found it quite fun to pick up on how they were playing and then react to it. I think I would have liked to know how the population expansion worked so I could base decisions off it (i.e. do 2 settlements with 50 population grow at the same rate as 1 settlement with 100 population?), and some audio would have been nice - but regardless, I had a great time playing, nice one!
Apr 21 20:19:32 11m 49s How to Summon a Cat For Dummies ♥ 3 This game is adorable, and my own cat was summoned to sit on my lap while I was playing it! It took many many tries to get the cat to come to me, so maybe the realism dial was set a bit too high :P But it was very cute, the music was nice, and I had fun learning the different weights of the objects and how to appease the cat. Was a bit frustrating to get that 'last' object in time, since throwing a lemon away while the cat was really close seemed to scare her off. Very cute game, nice entry!
Apr 21 20:38:28 18m 56s Bony Barricade ♥ 0 Nice game! At first, I didn't realise the 'age up' button existed, and I found I won twice really easily within a couple of minutes without really trying. Then I read the comments and realised there was more to the game that I was missing, so I replayed it 'properly' making my way through the tech tree - nice variety of units! That took about 7 minutes, and I had to try quite hard to make sure I didn't accidentally win before completing the tree, so I think some extra balancing is required, so that you actually need the higher level units. It would also be great to have a bit more feedback, so for instance you could see when your ranged units are attacking, and maybe a bit of sound too. I'm also not sure what was causing my resources to go up, so maybe some extra info there would be nice. I did enjoy it though, the voxel style looks really nice, the enemy progression feels good, and the goal is clear. Nice entry!
Apr 21 21:03:38 25m 10s Too Many Minions! ♥ 3 This was really fantastic - great game and I had a really fun time playing it! I love how you took a relatively simple mechanic and then just polished it. Similarly the visuals are simple, but very clear and nice. My only complaint is the audio clips when you spawn loads of your summons at the same time, which was a bit annoying. Might be worth baking a spawn track or something, since you're always spawning loads of them. I thought the level progression was really nicely done. That last level was very challenging - took me probably over 20 attempts to get it right, but very satisfying when I did! Really a great entry, nicely done!
Apr 28 13:50:55 160h 47m God Wars ♥ 1 Nice job completing an entry :) I enjoyed it, but I think it was a bit easy: could have done with some progression I think. Also I think a bit more 'feedback' would be nice. For instance, some animation/sound when you spawn or when your minions attack. I also wasn't able to tell when I could actually afford to purchase things: I think it would be worth graying out unaffordable buttons, and also telling the player how much mana they currently had. A bit more differentiation between the units would also be good: I couldn't really tell the difference between melee units and the tanks after I had spawned them. Also noticed there was a bug where the placement cursor could 'catch' other units and move them around. Nice job though :)
Apr 28 15:13:25 1h 22m Shapes of Light ♥ 3 Very nice entry, I spent way too long playing this - got to level 24 before calling it quits! (I assume it is infinite?) I really enjoyed it, and actually thought it was quite well balanced. The music and sounds were nice, although I wish there was a bit more feedback on the attacks. The randomness of which shapes you got was quite nice, because I think it really impacts the strategy. I really powered up my 'shape' and loved steamrolling the enemy once I'd got a couple of them out. I do wish the enemies took their turns a bit quicker though! Some bugs: Action point upgrades don't do anything (took me a while to figure that one out, that was annoying!) Sometimes things will vanish from my shape bar (Like I'll try and drag it out and it will vanish)
Apr 28 15:48:22 34m 57s Cubic Showdown ♥ 1 Nice entry! I really struggled to use anything except the first weapon, and its a shame there was no score given at the end, but the jumping around felt good and the enemies were really fun to attack because the movement was so fluid.
Apr 28 15:59:35 11m 13s Bad Rooms ♥ 2 This one was really cute and fun - and I found it to be surprisingly well balanced: all of the different spells seemed useful. The AI was pretty good too, so even though I was playing by myself it was really fun. Would be a fun party game with others I'm sure though. It was quite a challenge to win! I think it worked really well as a pico-8 game too, it fit the platform well and didn't feel like it was held back. Nice entry!
Apr 29 23:03:22 31h 03m Shoot The Furniture! featuring S.K. Eleton ♥ 3 Very pretty! The environment and power ups look good. The gameplay is simple, but I enjoyed running around murdering office plants. The map is quite well designed, I can see the potential here, its a shame your idea got cut short. Nice job getting what you did together though, its no small feat getting something like this together!
May 2 18:57:41 67h 54m Bobblevision ♥ 0 Oh my lord this simultaneously hurt my eyes and started to give me motion sickness - you should make a VR version! Really cool shader and tech demo though; very trippy and felt like it was scratching my brain. Cool!
May 2 19:25:35 27m 54s Summon Tycoon ♥ 0 Fun game! I had to read the comments to figure out what was going on though. I liked the core gameplay loop of having to send off your minions in order to make them money which they could then spend. I'm not sure exactly how the buildings worked though - sometimes it seemed like my workers were just lazing around not doing anything - were my buildings full of output? Also not sure what the higher level buildings did (but I bought them anyway). Maybe would have been nice to have more tooltips like there are for the people to try and help the player with that. Cool entry, I had fun (and nice job getting it all done in the compo time frame!)
May 2 19:45:39 20m 04s Soul Siphon ♥ 1 Fun game. I think it could have done with some info about which character was which - I wasn't really sure about the choices I was making in the upgrade menu, I ended up rerolling a lot. Am I right in saying that your summons could not do anything to the enemies? The long range superfast fireball was really annoying - felt like there wasn't really much I could do to counter it. It was fun to create as much chaos as possible though 😈
May 3 20:46:29 25h 00m Eyesore ♥ 0 The art and animation are really pretty - it would have been great to have a bit more visual feedback though, such as when you hit an enemy (at least some knockback). I feel like this was really close to being a complete game, because preparing your summons to fend off a wave of attackers was pretty fun. The waves didn't seem to get any harder though, and since the slimes were easy to farm, they stopped feeling challenging pretty quickly. Nice entry though - and good job getting it done in time for the compo!
