Unfortunately, none of the embedded web versions work

josang1567 2024-04-15 10:50

Sadly none of the files works

matt-ravenhall 2024-04-15 13:19

Does ticking the "SharedArrayBuffer support" box on the itch backend allow the embedding to work? This is the fix I used for my entry. (nb. this doesn't fix the LD embedding).

zoranac 2024-04-15 19:52

The downloaded version does work for me, but the web versions do not. I love these types of games, even if its currently bare bones. I think there is a lot of potential if you wanted to flesh it out in the future.

@matt-ravenhall Thanks that did it, I used to know how to do that fix but I couldn't look into it yesterday, so thank you for the hint !

@zoranac Thank you ! I love these kinds of games too, and wanted to try and make one, even tho with how short time can be in the compo, it ended up being a lot more bare bones than I wanted. Also I fixed the itch.io web version

I sometimes dream of a sane mix between dungeon keeper & "longer" playstyle of tycoon games. DF-kinda. Cozy stuff, now you're makin' me go start another fort...

@themaskedman Dungeon keeper and DF were both huge inspirations for this game, very happy to hear your comment ! A big part of the gameplay loop would have been training your minions to take on harder requests, and units that would train in barracks to serve as combat summons, but compo time is short ! Thanks for playing and for the heart-warming comment screenshot ! Here's a like-minded screenshot for the first day of the jam image.png

Awesomely ambitious (albeit too much for the jam like you say). Would be nice to see things get a bit more automated, so you get more of the sit-back-and-watch bit of tycoon games. An impressive start!

shared 2024-04-23 21:57

@wombatty Yeah, automation would be a nice part, though one of the designs I didn't have the time to implement is the scaling of requests, where minions would grow more powerful and take on harder quests, for bigger gains ! Thank you for your comment !

Feels very much like a tech demo with a very solid foundation! Tickles my nostalgia as well :D good job!

chuckiee 2024-04-24 05:35

I couldn't find why my miners wouldn't work. Ofc portal was blocking the way. Then the game turned into dwarf fortress a bit which I quite like. Not sure if there is a bug, but I got 10g per request instead of the gold stated near the summon while sending them. Very nice entry regardless!

nazorus 2024-04-24 10:05

It's impressive what you were able to accomplish on your own in just two days! The game makes me think of Dwarf Fortress and it's fun just looking at minions doing their thing. It took me a little while to understand how to setup a base properly and gain ressources (your guide was very helpful though), and after that I enjoyed growing the base and whatching the numbers grow.

The game does get stale rather quickly and it'd be curious to see a post-jam version if you plan on doing one. In any case good job and kudos for doing the compo!

shared 2024-04-24 14:30

@chuckiee Thank you ! The money you see in the UI is the money the minion has on him, not the payout, which I sadly didn't have the time to make clearer. I will upload an UI guide screenshot for the less obvious stuff (I wish I had the time to implement a tutorial, the post-jam will need one)

@nazorus Thank you for the compliments, the gameplay loop does get a bit stale because of the lack of scaling, I agree, post jam will have fighter units, and units growing in power to take on harder requests ! (also a sell button can't believe I didn't have the time for that). A tutorial will be nice too, since the way to start and the mechanics are not that intuitive. But despite the unfortunate sacrifices, I'm glad I've been able to get a game of this style functional in the 48h !

burnedkirby 2024-04-25 03:52

As others have stated, it feels like playing Dwarf Fortress, but LDJam COMPO style. You certainly did get a lot of game logic set up in two days, which is impressive. Though, Dwarf Fortress is not my cup of tea, this game is pretty neat. Good work!

mlists 2024-04-26 04:50

I was impressed with how much you built in the time limit, the game needs a bit more content but what you have now is a great start.

monika 2024-04-27 03:58

I liked it! It's a good start and good idea for a fuller game, and the idea that the only way to get gold is to charge your own workers their tips is ~important social commentary~ in a cute little way. Do more portals get you more missions? I had just a few workers but wasn't getting enough missions to keep them paying me for food, and then I tried one more portal and it seemed to work but then the next refresh with like five portals was back to not enough. Not sure it was really bad luck or if it doesn't matter.

shared 2024-05-01 22:26

@burnedkirby Thanks ! And yeah I had a bit of trouble getting everything working well enough for the compo

@mlists Thank you, yeah a lot more content was planned, but I had to cut some of it sadly to make sure the game would be functional for the compo deadline

@monika Having more than one portal doesn't do anything yet, and sadly, with the compo version (which is the only one available right now) the amount/quality of requests don't scale with player progress, and plateau quite quickly into a situation where the brewers are barely used because no one can afford drinks... And to explain what happened when you built the second portal, the request amount is simply random . I'd definitely like to give the game some extra content and a balance pass ! Thanks for playing !!

Fun game! I had to read the comments to figure out what was going on though. I liked the core gameplay loop of having to send off your minions in order to make them money which they could then spend. I'm not sure exactly how the buildings worked though - sometimes it seemed like my workers were just lazing around not doing anything - were my buildings full of output? Also not sure what the higher level buildings did (but I bought them anyway). Maybe would have been nice to have more tooltips like there are for the people to try and help the player with that.

Cool entry, I had fun (and nice job getting it all done in the compo time frame!)

flightless 2024-05-02 19:38

Impressive for a Compo! My minions sure liked sitting on top of each other - cozy!

xoreaxeax 2024-05-03 06:14

Very cool :) It was a bit hard for me to understand what to do at first but I very much like these type of games! It would be nice if you could find some gold etc by mining (or it is and I was just unlucky?)

flyingkaida 2024-05-03 15:36

"Our games have almost the same name lmao, very different games though." Rofl, VERY similar!! Love this game. Fairly different but similar idea. Where mine is summoning slimes to gather mana, you're sumonning other things that buy stuff ~~from you hehehe~~ for gold to buy house pieces. I could soooo see doing something similar to me! Doesn't seem to be much end game though?

Additionally I was wondering why the space was sooooo small. And I thought the pick was to destroy old objects rofl. Welp, time to try it again lol. Def dwarf fortress vibes.
