May 1 10:08:50 Just a cog in the machine? ♥ 2 Very nice game! I really liked the graphics, and the mood great too. All the animations were incredibly smooth as well. I also enjoyed the pacing of the game, and the last section was quite unexpected. However, it took me way too long to understand what to do in it - I kept trying to drop the creatures, press on the pink circle, press on the yellow button while holding nothing/an egg/a creature, and so on - but maybe I'm just stupid. Also, the ability to stack multiple creatures/eggs was incredibly useful, but I only found it in the very end of the game by accident. Still, I quite enjoyed it. As for your questions: - The performance was perfect for me - I played with a mouse - I only found two Anyway, great game!
May 1 10:48:42 39m 52s Ash & Phoenix ♥ 2 Wow. This was quite the experience. The ending hit hard and was masterfully done. Honestly, the entire game was incredibly polished and laser focused on the story you wanted to tell - all the little sound effects and animations and timely pauses made such a neat package together. I really don't have any feedback on the graphics and sound and story - they were all amazing! The gameplay was also really original and was an excellent fit for the story. I know that it's entirely optional and there are no penalties for failing, but I still really wanted to get every word right (and I did manage to do that except for the last letter). However, I had a few minor frustrations with it. The first one is mostly me being quite bad at the game, which led me to focus more on typing and less on the story during the harder sections (longer sentences). This made my feel slightly bad that I only skimmed parts of the story, but I also didn't want to skip parts of the game. Still, this was an excellent opportunity to practice touch typing :) The other one was that I felt being able to type words from later parts of the sentence actually detracted from the experience. This was mostly due to my typing becoming very chaotic when O get stressed (which happened a lot during this game), but multiple times I accidentally started typing a later word without noticing, and got frustrated when I couldn't type the word I was focusing on due to my keyboard being "locked" to said later word. Sometimes, I even accidentally typed that word fully (if it was "a"/"in"/"to" etc.), leading to weird "holes" in the sentence. Generally, I'm not sure how much sense that mechanic made sense in this game, due to you typing complete sentences and not just disconnected words. Anyway, other than that, excellent game!
May 1 16:56:02 6h 07m Famous Delivery Man ♥ 2 Nice game! I played it so much that I reached the endless green plains at the end of the world. Screenshot 2023-05-01 194801.png The game was quite simple, but there was something nice about a score-based game where you can't lose, just accumulate points indefinitely. There were also a lot of neat touches, like the Roman numerals and making the packages actually weight you down by reducing jump height. There were some bugs too - like the aforementioned infinite empty space at the end, and I also encountered some of the bugs the other commenters reported - but other than that, good entry!
May 1 17:10:19 14m 17s Canyon Dash ♥ 2 Really nice game! The node graph was quite cool - it reminded me of Slay the Spire - and I liked the combat windows and all the animations. The game was very opaque though, especially at the beginning - I had to choose between buying troops and health, yet had no idea what each one did or even what was the combat like. I ended up just buying all the troops I could, and somehow won combats by pressing "Attack" all the time, without understanding why sometimes it worked better or worse than others. Eventually I realized the rock-paper-scissors nature of the actions, but I still don't know how am I supposed to pick the correct option - are there indicators to what will the enemy do, or is it random? Basically, the game could have really used a tutorial, or a description in the game page at the very least. Still, I did enjoy it - I played it twice - and it was very technically impressive for a compo game. Great entry!
May 1 17:21:56 11m 37s Flingshot ♥ 1 Great game! I loved the concept and the intro message - they were hilarious! I also really liked all the little messages near the score counter. The gameplay was quite good too - at first I always just overshot on purpose and ejected the package, but once I realized hitting the house with the van scored more points I switched trying to always do that and it was much more engaging - even though it probably ended up reducing my score as I was quite bad at it :) Still, balancing between trying to hit the houses with the van versus the parcel was a really cool twist and quite engaging. Overall, excellent entry! My final score was 16250.
May 1 17:47:13 25m 17s Reincarnation Express ♥ 2 Nice game! I liked the core concept, and the twist at the final location was pretty cool. The writing was quite good as well. The graphics were very nice too - however, I'm pretty sure AI generated art is not allowed in the Compo according to the [event page](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/53) (see the last note), but it is fine in the Jam and Extra categories, so I suggest switching to one of them. Also, I didn't really get the spoilers that you added, but I guess it's because I don't know the manga you mentioned. Still, the story worked for me even without the spoilers. Overall, great game!
May 1 18:23:30 36m 17s Pheasant Courier ♥ 2 Excellent game! I really enjoyed it, and the graphics were amazing. I also liked all the dialogue, and the core concept of the game. And the fact that you had two bosses was very cool! The main gameplay ideas of the feathers and turning floaty platformer controls into a feature were awesome - I had a ton of fun just floating around the levels, causing havoc with the packages. However, attacking was a bit cumbersome - I didn't really know how to manipulate the ropes properly, and pretty much just flapped around the target hoping to get a lucky hit in. It wasn't too bad in the levels, but the second boss ended up being a bit too luck-based in my opinion - beating him mostly boiled down to hoping that he lands on the boxes instead of me, not to mention that the bullet attack was basically a guaranteed death (but maybe I just didn't understand how to evade it properly). I actually enjoyed the first boss much more, as it was far more predictable and easier to hit due to being airborne. And one final nitpick - the end screen closing after any key input made it basically impossible to screenshot it (at least with Win+Shift+S), which is a bit of a shame. Otherwise, incredible entry!
May 1 19:29:56 1h 06m Packontra ♥ 1 I defeated the dark emperor and got the title of the mailest man! Anyway, this was a simply hilarious game! I loved the opening sequence, and the voice acting was amazing - both in it and during the game. I'm honestly kind of glad that the dogs don't do anything, it was hard enough to get an S rank even without them. Also, I liked the honk button, truly an essential feature. I sometimes received packages with a target delivery time of 0 seconds, and it was quite hard to find the specific house the arrow was pointing to, but otherwise, amazing entry!
May 1 20:44:15 1h 14m Holding Out ♥ 3 Amazing game! I loved the premise and the dialogue - Gary was really funny. The graphics were awesome, and I loved the phone-on-hold music, very authentic. I liked the gameplay as well, and the core concept of having to "defend" the phone and talk on it while fighting zombies was very cool. I felt like some of the upgrades were a bit unbalanced though (which makes sense given it's a compo game). In my first run, I died due to running out of ammo while zombies swarmed the phone. In my second run, I got Cricket (I think, the ability which gave you higher damage in exchange for reduced fire rate) as my first upgrade, and it felt way too powerful. It allowed me to one-hit all the zombies (even the stronger variant), making ammo pretty much a non-issue. Afterwards, I got a mix of Green (the ammo refund one) and Flourish (shooting when dashing), which had a pretty broken synergy together (probably a bug, but still): Flourish only cost 1 ammo, but Green refunded each shot separately, which very quickly led to basically infinite ammo, and made the rest of the game a cakewalk. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed it! Great entry!
May 2 17:50:20 21h 06m Inbox Fool ♥ 6 Amazing game! I loved Smarticus' character - such an incompetent cartoonish villain, and yet I still felt slightly bad for him at the end (he just wanted eye contact). His jokes were hilariously bad (which made them loop all the way back to hilarious), and I loved all the different pictures of him. The audio was incredible all around - both the voice acting and all the music (I seriously applaud you for making a music consisting mainly of the words "boss fight" so good). I ended up listening to the entire voice acting before starting each level. The mechanic itself was also really clever - it took me some time to understand it completely, but I enjoyed it afterwords. I also liked the trail effect of the letters in the retry screen, it was a nice touch. The boss fight was also very unique and quite hard. The mouse animation in the boss felt a bit too long after a few retries, but that's really the only nitpick I have. Overall, awesome entry!
May 2 18:04:08 13m 48s Delivery ♥ 1 Nice game! I actually liked the intro, it was pretty cool. I also loved the tiny tank packaging. The gameplay itself was quite nice, although it could've used a short tutorial - the first thing I did was to press random buttons, and didn't realize what the game was about until I'd already lost most of my crates. Still, it was quite cool afterwards - it became very hectic very quickly, which was fun. I noticed that different things fell at different speeds, but couldn't really map out the fall speeds (besides tanks being the fastest) before the game ended - perhaps some sort of indicator would've helped? Other than that, good entry! Here's my final score: Screenshot 2023-05-02 210311.png
May 2 18:21:02 16m 54s Rain Sleet Zombies ♥ 1 Really nice game! The graphics were awesome - I loved all the effects, lights and animations (especially the zombies crawling out of the manhole animation!). The zombies speeding up after a while was also a neat twist. I somehow managed to get out-of-bounds after getting the hammer, which allowed me to skip a part of the game (I think), but I still lost :( Nevertheless, the hammer was really fun to use! The movement speed of the player felt a bit too slow for me even when running, and I sometimes lost health multiple times from a single zombie, but other than that, great entry!
May 3 09:56:03 15h 35m Taent ♥ 1 Great game! It was certainly very creepy, I'm glad you didn't have many jumpscares (besides the bell ring noise and light change) as it was almost too much for me (I'm very bad at horror games). The graphics were really good and matched the atmosphere nicely - I loved the sparse use of colours. All the audio was great as well - I especially liked the whispering and the voice acting (the "I don't get art" comment was the best). The ending was a bit confusing and anti-climatic though - I just looked around the room while nothing happened until it crashed, but I assume it was just due to a lack of time. All in all, very good entry!
May 3 10:22:14 26m 11s Reloot ♥ 1 Amazing game! I loved the premise, it was super cool and such a unique take on the theme. The graphics were awesome - I especially loved the sky background, but everything else was really good as well. I liked how all enemies shared the same wind theme. It was also very cool playing the same level twice, but with completely different abilities and goals. The game was incredibly polished as well - from the enemy/chest indicators to the secret alternate ending. And the music was amazing as well, very catchy! The only nitpick I have is that I felt Molt should be able to heal when returning to the caravan (as it stores health potions, and dying anyway respawns you at the caravan with full health), but other than that, awesome entry!
May 3 18:48:06 8h 25m Oliver the Bartender ♥ 1 Really nice game! It felt really polished, and I loved the tutorial and the new item spawn animation. The game was surprisingly addictive too. I tried a tactic where I had the minimum amount of different foods & drinks (I stayed a purely water & sushi bar until I got 200 coins) which allowed me to always fill my tray with a mix of sushi and water, and give customers what they wanted the moment they arrived - they must have thought I was psychic! Anyway, I really enjoyed it. One issue I had though is that the piano felt desynced from the rest of the music, which led it to feel like a downgrade music-wise instead of an upgrade, but other than that, great entry!
May 3 19:00:38 12m 32s RUCHKI ♥ 1 Awesome game! I can't get over the audio in this game, it's hilarious (and I don't even understand what most of the words mean). The game was so ridiculous, I loved it. The main mechanic was also really cool, but it felt pretty janky and unpredictable, which actually added to the surreal factor but made it even harder. I ended up rage-quitting in level 3 (I couldn't pass the section with the wind), but I still had fun with it! Overall, great entry!
May 3 19:22:26 21m 48s Isles Express ♥ 2 Wow, this game was certainly difficult. At first I didn't get the controls at all and got the amazing score of 0, but after reading the comments and trying it again twice I think I managed to get a pretty reasonable score! It was also quite fun once I understood it. I also liked the SFX, they sounded exactly like what I imagine motored boats sound like. I think a more detailed tutorial for people who don't know how to drive and have no idea what throttle means (like me, I thought it worked like a normal racing game at first) would help, and it was also impossible to see the boat when it was "in-between" wrapping around the map, but otherwise, great entry! Here's my highscore: Screenshot 2023-05-03 221802.png
May 4 17:17:30 21h 55m Unconventional Delivery ♥ 1 Really nice game! It took me a while to understand how to play (I kept trying to bring the package to the bottom-left house in the tutorial), but it was quite fun afterwards! I also liked the win animation with the houses launching into space. The jumper and splitter convoy belts were also clever ideas and made for some interesting puzzles. However, I felt like the game was a bit too easy (which is much better than too hard, but still): I managed to beat pretty much every level with leftover pieces, and most of the time with leftover packages as well. Also, the play animation was a bit slow - it would've been nice to have the option to increase its speed. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it and managed to beat it! Great entry!
May 4 17:39:23 21m 53s Ray Ledger: Midnight Run ♥ 1 Awesome game! I loved the graphics and animations, especially the running animation and the game over screen. The world felt ridiculously large for a compo game - it was amazing! The first time I got caught was quite the jumpscare. The music was excellent as well, really added to the tension. The game was quite buggy though (which makes sense, but still): I kept accidentally falling off of rails, and I had two different bugs with the delivery spawning - once it just didn't spawn (I went to the indicated place and there was nothing there), and another time I got 4 points from the same delivery (which did allow me to reach a highscore of 6). Lastly, I couldn't download the game from itch.io on Firefox - I had to use Edge for it - although that's probably an itch bug, just thought I'd let you know. Nevertheless, the game was really fun! And it's nice to see a fellow Unity-to-Godot migrant :)
May 4 19:34:49 1h 55m Cart Delivery ♥ 1 On my first successful attempt, I managed to deliver the pink box and the anvil. At least I managed to make someone happy for 5 minutes, I thought. On my second successful(?) attempt, I brought a single potion and killed a bunny. Nobody cared about the potion and I brought about the end of humanity. Oops. On my third successful attempt, the only survivor was the yellow box. I was really excited to finally see what was inside. I ragequit afterwards. In all seriousness, this was really well made! It was extremely hard, but not impossible so (except perhaps the second witch encounter - that one usually was just a run ender), and the little messages at the end were a really awesome idea that added a ton of replay value. As others have said though, the hitboxes felt a bit too small and each run slightly too long (since it took me multiple attempts to have anything survive to the end), but otherwise, great entry!
May 5 17:44:29 22h 09m Special Delivery! ♥ 1 Nice game! I really liked your take on the theme, and the short reason before each mission. The hat mechanic was also quite cool - I'm just sad that stacking hats doesn't actually stack them but replaces the current hat as well. The game is pretty short, but trying to not poop on innocents is quite challenging, which adds a lot of replay value trying to get a perfect score. I didn't understand how to collect the airborne hats, but otherwise, great entry!
May 5 18:20:37 36m 08s Delivery Man ♥ 1 Really nice game! I loved the aesthetic - the 1bit art combined with the NES-style font and BeepBox music really helped create an authentic retro feel. The game was also surprisingly fun - I liked the concept of a very open platformer where you can't lose, simply accumulating score until the timer runs out. The jump felt really good, and there were many times I was saved from falling down by a well-placed platform. Great level design! I do have two nitpicks, though. The first is the lack of visibility in the level. The camera is extremely zoomed in, and there is no minimap (or even a map of any kind). This made my first run a disaster, struggling to find my way through the huge world and barely delivering any packages. While it did create a sense of exploration - and my second run went way better as I'd memorized parts of the layout already - it was still a bit frustrating, as I kept reaching dead ends. The second one was that the score and time system felt a bit opaque. I didn't really understand what determined how much score I received from each delivery, and even less the amount of time - sometimes I got only 3 seconds, while others it was over half a minute. Looking through the source code, I saw that it depends on the amount of distance (to the package itself I assume) - which is really smart game design! - but I had no way to know that as a player. Overall, I really enjoyed it! Great entry! Here's my final score: Screenshot 2023-05-05 205821.png
