I love the artwork and how you tell a story. The game has such a great atmosphere. It's quite hard though, I'm glad you put checkpoints :D A really good game :)

adrieldf 2023-05-01 02:35

Awesome game! It was a bit hard but it was a fun challenge, the bosses were tough at first but learning they attack pattern helped a lot. Really cool game!

cagibi 2023-05-01 06:15

@castitatis @adrieldf Thanks for the feedback! ^^

I'm somewhat glad that both levels and bosses are hard, I was worried about one being way easier/harder than the other. Checkpoints were invisible in my previous games, I figured it would be more satisfying to show them this time!

hekateras 2023-05-01 10:40

This came out incredibly cute and charming! Unfortunately I'm a bit bad at this kind of platforming ^^;

Excellent game! I really enjoyed it, and the graphics were amazing. I also liked all the dialogue, and the core concept of the game. And the fact that you had two bosses was very cool! The main gameplay ideas of the feathers and turning floaty platformer controls into a feature were awesome - I had a ton of fun just floating around the levels, causing havoc with the packages. However, attacking was a bit cumbersome - I didn't really know how to manipulate the ropes properly, and pretty much just flapped around the target hoping to get a lucky hit in. It wasn't too bad in the levels, but the second boss ended up being a bit too luck-based in my opinion - beating him mostly boiled down to hoping that he lands on the boxes instead of me, not to mention that the bullet attack was basically a guaranteed death (but maybe I just didn't understand how to evade it properly). I actually enjoyed the first boss much more, as it was far more predictable and easier to hit due to being airborne. And one final nitpick - the end screen closing after any key input made it basically impossible to screenshot it (at least with Win+Shift+S), which is a bit of a shame. Otherwise, incredible entry!

@frogman Thank you for playing through all of the game!

This is my first time experimenting with indirectly controlled attacks in a platformer. I admit that the mechanic isn't very precise or predictable (I used circles for hitboxes after all, not package-shaped or pheasant-shaped), and I'm still searching for ways to improve it. My design process on this attack was (and still is) "mess around and find out" :P

For the second boss, the bullet attack can be parried by jumping right next to the first bullet and moving upwards in a C pattern (when he's on your right); with their inertia, your packages sometimes act as shields in front of you. You can also use his spin attack against him with a careful jump.

I didn't think about that end screen issue, yeah this is a bit of a problem, unfortunately this is a bug I should fix after the ratings period.

Great entry! Graphics and gameplay mechanics done great and there are very fun dialogs.

allax 2023-05-02 17:28

Cool game, I liked it. Funny storytelling, good art and a nice soundtrack. The controls feel a little complicated at first, but then you adapt. Great entry!

Love the mood, graphics, audio. Really funny and charming writing (and lots of it!). Floating is really fun, but yeah I never got a grip on attacking. Stopped playing at the eagle boss after he stunlocked me (you respawn in as feathers are falling on you, then he swoops in) and regained all his health multiple times. Really punishing. Wonder if this game would be better without the one hit kills.

joscco 2023-05-03 09:41

Wow, suprisingly hard but very well executed! The graphical representation is just great, I love the simple style. Sound design is excellent as well. Great job!

A skip option for the dialogue at the beginning would have been nice

smdg 2023-05-03 09:42

Really liked the graphics and the overall mood of the game. The gameplay was interesting and fun to play. Though I found the using the package to deal damage mechanic a little hard to control which made it hard to fight enemies with full control.

skyeward 2023-05-03 14:00

One of the best entries of this jam easily, absolute 10/10 soundtrack, good mood, character, aesthetic, level design. You should be really proud of this entry.

momo-hunter 2023-05-03 17:52

Had a blast playing your game, felt very polished and the bosses were definitely a challenge. One bird told me I should collect all the sticks, but how many were there? Did I miss one? I had 138 (I think) at the end

cagibi 2023-05-03 18:32

@momo-hunter I didn't count how many I placed! Let's see, there are 84 sticks in the game, but defeating rats (×10) & goats (×11) gives 1 point, clouds (×14) 2 points, and bosses (×2) 10 points, so the maximum score is… 153.

If you find a bug that allows you to kill enemies (or bosses!) more than once, that score can be higher. I think hitting a dead rat/goat again before it explodes counts as a double kill, it's easier when you have two packages.

erlioniel 2023-05-04 13:23

Just got my hands on the full play through and I can say that it's an amazing small game, dude  The level of details is just enormous, I do like sound & sprites, I do like the levels & characters. There not that much I don't like - probably only that boxes are hitting you, which making not an easy platforming even more challenging and annoying from time to time. But that's all tbh!

Amazing work!

pacha 2023-05-06 13:11

This game is a gem ! Had a hard time at the beginning, but the idea is so cool, little feathers jumps remind me of A Short Hike, is it an inspo of yours ? Tone and humor is also on point, some lines made me laugh and overall I had a really great time ! Keep up the good work <3

cagibi 2023-05-06 13:31

@erlioniel Thanks for the feedback! Normally the boxes don't change your velocity at all when hitting you, but I guess they can be a bit distracting.

@pacha I admit A Short Hike was a bit of an inspiration when I added the feathers. Thanks for the kind words!

kerri 2023-05-06 14:00

Had a great time playing this, the movements feel incredibly pleasing. Got a little stuck at the first boss, struggling to control the package to damage/shield. Really enjoyed the game, nicely done!

digitaldude555 2023-05-06 14:10

This is awesome, it's like a fully fleshed out game, love the dialogue with the birds, graphics presentation are really incredible, challenging but thankfully you can continue endlessly. Sadly I got stuck on the first boss it kept killing me in a loop because I always respawned in it's location and since my package kept stunning it, it didn't ever move. Awesome game.

lexuor 2023-05-06 18:08

A good platformer, but the boss fight is quite difficult due to a little inertia in the controls and the fact that the boss does not return to his place after you die. If the boss hits you when you are at your spawn point, he will kill you over and over again until he leaves.

cagibi 2023-05-06 19:09

@digitaldude555 @lexuor The spawn-kill problem on the first boss was already reported to me, but I'm not sure I am allowed to fix this during the rating period. Thanks for the feedback anyway!

digitaldude555 2023-05-06 19:18

@cagibi you're not and it doesnt effect my rating of the game dont worry.

cagibi 2023-05-21 07:29

I released a devlog on the results (a sort of postmortem part 2?): https://cagibi.itch.io/pheasant-courier/devlog/530485/jam-results-are-here-v11

Also, version 1.1 is on itch.io, with various fixes (the embedded version on this website is still the original).
