Jan 8 21:06:29 Combine Harvester: Time Attack! ♥ 3 Peaceful! Unfortunately I encountered a couple of game play issues. 1. Time seems to be passing very, very fast...I used a stopwatch and in the time that 5 IRL seconds had passed, 13 had passed in game. That makes it really difficult to complete a level, and I tried a few times and couldn't get past level 2. 2. The hitbox, unfortunately I got stuck a lot on the white fences and it's a bit difficult to move away from them once you're stuck. I haven't tried level 3,4, 5 so I can't comment on those. I need help for level 2 haha.
Jan 8 21:48:48 42m 19s HELLGATE HARVEST ♥ 2 Very nice. Visually it's very impressive with all the dudes walking up slowly. It's a bit hard to identify when to use the keys because the characters move so slowly, but once you really listen to the music it works out, if you identify which instruments fit to each track you can really get into it. Took me a while to figure out which keys to use to play because the 1-4 was so small though. Nice work!
Jan 8 21:55:45 6m 57s Yamsylvania ♥ 2 Top notch production values, the music is very moody and everything looks great. The gameplay loop is simple but effective. My only complaint is that the controls seem to bug out sometimes when you hold multiple directions at once (and possibly also try to shoot?). Played it for a while trying to see how long I could run from those damn bats and still sell yams...What a polished entry.
Jan 8 22:13:52 18m 07s None of your beesness! ♥ 1 Fun stuff! You have to stop and think a little but it's not too hard that it's annoying. Sometimes I have to try my luck, I'm not sure if it's my fault or there's some clues missing sometimes. Good idea either way and fits the theme well! And just a small note, but there's a bug on level 1-5 with the honey on the bottom right giving you infinite honey as long as you walk over it again.
Jan 8 22:41:49 27m 57s Shape Orchard ♥ 3 This is the best game I've played yet in terms of visuals, I absolutely love the concept. I think the puzzle aspect could be improved on by making it clearer how the colors are mixed (or was that just me), but I played it to the end just to get more of the art.
Jan 8 22:50:15 8m 26s Octo Garden ♥ 1 You can press play twice to spawn a second octo buddy! Spamming spacebar and rotating for huge combos is extremely satisfying. Just wish there was more to the sea you could explore. Nice work!
Jan 8 23:19:15 29m 00s reOrganiser ♥ 2 Fun experience. It'd be great if you could physically swap the organs but I still had a good time. I like the mechanic of parsing the 'contracts', I think you could have gone even heavier with like 10 choices every time to try and maximize profit. The gameplay gets repetitive after a while, but I just think that's because $50K is too much, if you condensed this into 1 day and say $10K I bet it would do super well. I also experienced a bug with some funky maths in days 3+ where I wouldn't receive as much as the reward said, like 1k instead of 4k, and I got the "well, well, well" message at like 45k which was a bit disappointing, but oh well. Good work!
Jan 8 23:46:01 26m 46s Cave Cropduster ♥ 1 Flying feels really satisfying, and the visuals are good. I had fun once I understood what the game was about but like the commenter above said the mushrooms are a bit confusing. Do you think you could make the window on itch.io bigger? That'd be a good compromise for me between full screen (text bug) and the way it is now. Good work!
Jan 9 02:25:10 2h 39m HARVEST 2300 ♥ 2 Extremely polished! The UI, the trail, the little details in the pixel art...and the music also helps build tension. The story is a nice touch as well. I wish upgrades were a bit more 'extreme' in their effects so it'd be fun to replay it and choose a different path. Great entry either way!
Jan 9 03:14:49 49m 39s Asteroid Rush ♥ 2 Fun little game! I agree with the commenter above, after a while I didn't care for the points anymore and just tried to fling asteroids every which way to hear the voice lines haha. Also, I thought your name was familiar -- turns out I watched your video on switching from unity to godot just a few days ago. Nice work! Edit: updated rating.
Jan 9 05:44:53 2h 30m Harvest Battle Adventure ♥ 1 I think the idea is awesome, an upgrade/clicker game with a planting minigame based on the enemies you defeat. It could use a bit more polish, but the core gameplay is solid.
Jan 9 05:56:13 11m 20s Catchy ♥ 1 Lovely game! Recreating the feel of an old map must have been a challenge but it definitely works, the wind looks good, and fish species are just different enough to be noticeable. Honestly, this reminds me of playing mid-late 00s Armor Games flash games (and I meant that in the best way possible). Great work! By the way, I noticed that ship hiding in the far east, behind the island!
Jan 9 17:06:05 11h 09m Homunculus ♥ 2 Love a point n click game! I even had a few 'huh! where is the damn correct pixel' moments like in a proper point'n'click. Very impressed at the level of polish here, it's a shame the homunculus wakes up so violently, I wanted to see where this was going.
Jan 9 17:32:21 26m 16s Wheat Master ♥ 1 A clicker done well! Limited in scope but as a result it's probably one of the more complete experiences I've played here. Quite satisfying to watch once it gets going. The isometric visuals work well. The harvest sound effect is a bit loud but not a big deal. Nice work.
Jan 9 20:32:59 3h 00m Reaper ♥ 1 You weren't joking when you said the game was brutal! Those creepers are so damn fast. It's all about finding a good chokepoint to kill them before they can get in behind you. It feels good to play though and I like the music and the visuals, it's a nice game to look at. I wish the powers dropped a bit more often because I only managed to get one. Wpwz4pP.png Also the score didn't reset for me, but not a huge deal.
Jan 9 20:53:25 20m 26s Penrose Process ♥ 1 Took me a bit to understand how to play the game, but even when I did, damn it's tough! Lesson learned, the down arrow is *dangerous*. Pretty engaging though, and mad respect for making a game in SDL in 48 hours, and getting it to work on a web page too!
Jan 9 21:09:51 16m 26s HARVEST ♥ 2 I find the concept really well though-out. It was pretty fun trying a few different starting strategies for maximizing yield. Screenshot 2023-01-09 220834.jpg Good job on making a game using purely the canvas & plain javascript as well! I do find it funny that you ended up having a compatibility issue on Firefox when you probably have one of the most 'platform-agnostic' games in this entire jam...
Jan 9 23:22:32 2h 12m Carrot Jack ♥ 3 Really fun and relaxing entry! Simple gameplay but it works well, and the graphics are pretty juicy. It took me quite a while to realize the carrot was slowly going back to its original size, but when I did, I devised a new plan: Screenshot 2023-01-10 002024.jpg This would have been even better with some light relaxing music but of course, hard to fit that within the constraints of a jam.
Jan 9 23:34:19 11m 47s 4 Harvest Bags ♥ 1 I started playing without reading anything and I didn't realize you weren't penalized for catching veggies with the wrong basket/not catching them, and I thought damn, this game looks cute but it's actually hardcore. Surprisingly fun, I think an online 'high scores' count would have been a great fit for this game, something like an infinite scrolling mode with only X misses allowed.
Jan 9 23:58:00 23m 41s Dream Reaper ♥ 3 Played this for quite a while. It's pretty fun to play but for the first several levels I was really wishing it were a real-time game as that's how I was playing it. It starts to make sense in the later levels when it gets more complicated and the levels are designed to take advantage of the turn-based mechanic. Good work on the graphics and sound design, phasing through doors and reaching the dreamer feel satisfying. Little nitpick but some sound effects are maybe a bit loud? Anyway, solid entry overall!
Jan 10 00:13:04 15m 04s Combine Harv-racer ♥ 1 Impressive work for a solo game. I agree with the other commenters, the core gameplay is fine but what really stands out are all the little touches like the corn growing back and the cows. I find it funny that hitting the fence doesn't slow you down, but hitting a cow does. And let me say, Cowmaggedon is a great idea. Nice work!
Jan 10 01:49:03 1h 35m Plot Luck ♥ 1 I like that there's more to this game than meets the eyes, it took me a few attempts before I picked up on the correct strategy (and stopped at $100). Very polished and the core gameplay is just fun. And the music doesn't get on my nerves even though I've been listening to what feels like the same 8 seconds on a loop for 15 minutes.
Jan 10 02:43:05 54m 02s Reap 'n' Roll ♥ 1 I agree with the commenter above, feels like the concept could be taken further. I played this for a while and really enjoyed it despite some things being rough around the edges, but at the same time, considering the scope of the game, it's already an achievement for it to be playable. I feel like the spellcasting could be improved to be made more 'real time', it feels a bit clunky at the moment, and it'd be nice if you could also collect permanent power ups on top of spells. Would play a post-jam version for sure.
Jan 10 06:25:32 3h 42m The Soul Harvester ♥ 1 Oh, I think this is a diamond in the rough, you'd probably have way more success with an HTML5 version. The game feels a bit rough around the edges in terms of polish but it's gigantic for a jam game, all the powers feel good to use and the level design is fantastic, definitely the highlight here. I agree with the other users about the powers feeling a bit clunky. I finished the game before I got the last power (I had dash, high jump, shoot and pass through thin walls). Wonder which one I missed?
Jan 10 16:11:05 9h 45m Rainbow Souls ♥ 2 I had a good time with this game, but there are a few quality of life issues that if fixed would really take it to the next level in my opinion: * Being able to take away souls from a potion before brewing. Hate misclicking and wasting resources. * Being able to see # of souls left, orders from customers and the brewing menu in one screen. Having to go back and forth between the two screens to make sure I have enough resources is a bit annoying. * Make the sound pan a bit more even. I get the idea and I think it could work but it's a bit extreme and bothersome to only hear the music out of one ear, maybe reducing it to a 40% pan or something. But yeah, overall this is a solid entry and the gameplay loop is fun. It was pretty interesting to restart and try different strategies to maximize resources before the orders start coming in. Nice work.
Jan 10 20:32:46 4h 21m Elonkorjuu - Live Harvest ♥ 2 I'm not gonna win any points for originality but it bears repeating, this game is absolutely gorgeous. Visually, it's the most interesting game I've played in this jam and it's hard to believe all the art was made in only 72 hours. The map design is interesting enough to keep you engaged, and the gameplay is alright if a bit repetitive. My only gripe is with the more 'platformer'-ish aspects of the game, the fact that you can't tilt your head down can make it a bit frustrating (but that could just be me being bad at the game). Very impressive.
Jan 11 05:49:00 9h 16m Necrotic Harvest ♥ 1 I didn't realize Anubis did all that work by himself! This is a really creative interpretation of the theme and I liked that. The gameplay was a bit too simple to be interesting for long to me, but I think it could be improved in simple ways, like maybe making it turn based and giving the corpses different score values? You only have so many beds, and each turn you'd have to decide how you're going to prioritize the corpses to get the highest score. That'd give the game a bit more thinking (it's all about clicking fast right now it seems to me). Good work on the visuals and the music especially, it's pretty intricate for a compo game.
Jan 11 05:59:59 10m 59s No Farm, No Fowl ♥ 1 Very polished for a compo, the animations on those feathers are impressive, the pixel art is great and the music works well. I think the SFX are a bit rough in comparison but that's just cause everything else is so nice. The game's fun to play, limiting the bullet regeneration to force you to kill multiple enemies is interesting, but it made me repeatedly get in some dangerous positions and the fact that any chicken 1-shots you is a bit annoying, because it makes you want to play safe. Still pretty engaging trying out the different upgrades.
Jan 12 06:11:07 24h 11m Super Plantoid ♥ 3 This game has way too few ratings. The only reason I can think of is that like the other commenter I was stuck for a while until I found how to go down platforms, and other people might have put it down by then. But this game is awesome, and the best compliment I can give it is that it doesn't feel like a jam game. The art is gorgeous, the game feels good to play and has a lot of QoL features you wouldn't expect from a 72 hr game like the checkpoints, skipping animations, and there's a varied soundtrack with some really good tracks, the later ones in particular. The first track is a tad busy for an ambience track and wears its welcome a little bit (but maybe I just feel that way because I was stuck for a while). I'd say the level design is both the best and worst point of this game, it makes you feel clever when you understand what you're supposed to do, juggling through the different powers, but when you're stuck it's really frustrating. For instance I had to look up a streamer's playthrough to understand where to go after the 2nd flower (you can jump to the platform right of the ship with the bubble). It also has some rather unexpected difficulty spikes (a room full of spikes?? in the dark?? ...gives me Rayman 1 (https:/ /www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQJAo_0UaY4) war flashbacks. The only giveaway that this is actually a jam game is the ending which feels a bit rushed, but considering the unreasonable amount of content here, it's hard to fault you for it. I completed the game with 18/20 collectibles. I had a good time and I'm not one for platformers/metroidvanias usually. My only advice is that you should really indicate somewhere here or on itch.io the down+space trick to going down platforms, and perhaps give a few more hints in-game for n00bs like me.
Jan 14 21:25:34 63h 14m Seed Gun ♥ 1 The core mechanics are fun! I wish there a few more systems in place like upgrades or a shop but I imagine you had your hands full with making a 3D game for a compo. I also experienced a bug where I couldn't rotate my character by moving the mouse past a certain point. But the models are cute and those bugs falling from the sky only to zoom to your crops at mach-1 speed are certainly a sight to see haha. Nice job!
Jan 14 21:32:08 6m 34s Not Mushroom for Error ♥ 2 Super impressed on the technical side with the procedural generation of new mushrooms, especially for a compo! Sometimes they look a bit too similar, but then again, that's also the danger in real life haha. The gameplay is simple but works well, but honestly I replayed it a few times just to see what kind of mushrooms were possible to generate. Great title as well.
Jan 16 13:25:19 39h 53m You Versus The World ♥ 1 I love card games, and this was a fun one. The AI is pretty forgiving so it becomes more about making sure those damn trees get the proper amount of sunlight/water/temperature to get a high score than actually progressing through the levels, although unlocking new trees was cool. A couple nitpicks I have: * The apple tree's sunlight rating is a little bit weird, maybe the X and dash are inverted there? * It looks smooth, but I think the animation bringing up the trees info could be sped up a bit considering it's the main thing you interact with. * I don't quite get how the discard/draw deck buttons work, it let me draw cards until I had like 10 in hand at which point my hand seemed to bug out (https://i.imgur.com/uatGqS7.png), and it also gave me points. The graphics are pleasant to look at and I enjoyed the humor in all the trees little taglines. The lack of sound is a shame but of course this is a pretty complete game for a compo so it's hard to blame you. Overall this is a game that doesn't need much more work to become really fun, in my opinion, just some balance tweaks to the AI and cards distribution and some bugfixes. Nice work! Screenshot 2023-01-16 142219.jpg
Jan 19 08:51:35 67h 26m Furious Farm: Total Reap-Out ♥ 1 Everything about this game is so polished that it's hard to even come up with anything interesting to say beyond nice work. The only thing I would mention is that many of the game's fun moments happen when you're close by to the other harvesters, but the gameplay seems to encourage finding your own area of the map to maximize your harvest score which seems a bit counterproductive. A way to further incite the player to get into the melee would be nice. Other than that, playing this game makes me go "Ah, so it's possible to achieve something like this in 72 hours..."
Jan 19 09:13:22 21m 47s It's Corn! ♥ 1 Super inspiring that you managed to make a full game without typing, and one this polished! I agree with the other commenters that the scope is a bit too reduced in terms of gameplay, and one more gameplay mechanic would have improved the game a lot, but what *is* there works well and is fun to play. I really like the birds exploding animation. One little nitpick I wanted to mention is that when designing pixel art I think a good rule to stand by is to keep a consistent pixel size, as I find it helps make the game feel more harmonious. Here the pixels for the characters are different sizes from the ones used in the wood posts which bugs me a little bit. But maybe you knew that and went for this style on purpose in which case feel free to ignore this!
