Apr 24 05:53:49 discardagain ♥ 0 This game is awesome 5/5 ! This is among my favorite jam games ever (all jams included) - that I played at least. I wish I can come up with a concept like this for a jam one day, so simple yet so good ! That's the spirit of jam games imo. Add a few more cards, maybe a few game modes and up to 4 player and I'm buyin' it on steam. Hell I get my friends to buy it too ! I'm not joking if you feel like it and put some more work on it this could really be shipped and have a decent amount of success. (As for the optimization issue it seems to happen sometime during card movement)
Apr 24 06:59:01 1h 05m RootNote ♥ 2 The game is stunning and the mood really works (music + art). And the mixing of the soundtrack (which is really cool) + the sounds of the note is really good too. The game also feels very complete which is nice (menus, tutorials, different modes). It is true that the vertical display of the arrows is a bit confusing, but still it's okay. I just feel like the notes should come to you and you should lose health when you get the wrong key instead of the current way things are. I doesn't necessarily needs to be in sync with the music, the flute works by itsel <3, I just would feel more pressure and I'd also be more focused (overall just more fun). The way things are right now is more like "hey you should give some input or you'll die... in like, 5 minutes". Obviously that is only my personal opinion, although I do think the game would be much more intense with automatic scroll. Maybe the game should also pause or at least slowdown for the attacks this way you can both focus on the top and bottom half. Good job guys ! Could do for a shippable game with a bit of work and maybe a slight redesign of the mechanics.
Apr 24 09:52:09 2h 53m Shump Racing ♥ 0 Not much to add to what the other said. The ship's control physics are a bit wonky although that might be wanted and the game could do with a bit more information : a UI would be a nice addition. Congrats on finishing your game ! (Btw on your wrote Shump instead of Shmup in the title)
Apr 25 04:18:54 18h 26m Tetris Breakout ♥ 1 Yo, glad I could help with inspiration. As some people have said a timer/score would be cool but what the game definitely is sound effects (and a pumped up music) but mostly SOUND EFFECTS to go with all THESE EXPLOSIONS. It would feel even more satisfying. (also I guess a few particle effects could make neat additions). Instructions could be cool, was a bit lost at the beginning, or at least better info with like the blocks beeping and flashing red when they are on the ground so you know this is not supposed to happen, maybe even exploding or dissolving. Basically what I'm sayin' is any game can do with more feedback, but this one would definitely benefit from them A LOT ! Here's a little inspiration https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fy0aCDmgnxg . Anyways, good job congrats on making the game with so little time :D !
Apr 25 04:41:41 22m 47s Siege Of The Cloud Empire ♥ 2 Man I'm really impressed by what you managed to do. Incredible game, very complete. The art is effective, the UI is neat and understandable, and it's real fluid too, I didn't have any lag on the WebGL. The transitions of the two modes is top notch, and the idea of unlocking the rts in the assault is cool. A really good job ! For a jam game there isn't much more to add but if you wanted to work more on it I guess : managing the rythm between assault and rts a bit better and being a bit clearer on how the game works. Having a bit more control during the assault could be cool. There are also a few bugs to crush (like falling from the sky for instance) but I didn't have any crash and the game was still playable so it's okay really. I do have a crushing question tho : What did those poor sky people ever do to us ? Anyways great job man, especially for a compo, especially for a first jam 👍 !
Apr 25 04:55:03 13m 22s A Really Bad Case of the Mondays ♥ 1 Cool game ! Simple concept but well implemented, and pretty funny. I liked the tutorial through the UI on the first level. It just lasted a bit long in my opinion. Perhaps a bit of tweening (scaling, blinking, you name it) when it appears to get the player's attention and then it fades away after 10 seconds or so ? The music fit well, and in the level in the office the red dudes in the beginning spawn in sync with the tune. In don't know if that was on purpose but it was really cool XD. I feel like the game could do with a bit more juiciness (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fy0aCDmgnxg) like particle effect explosion when two cars collide and such. (then again you never have enough juiciness :P ). Good job guys !
Apr 25 07:16:17 2h 21m Fish Fighter ♥ 1 I like the concept. The animation when you get pulled in the water and the fishing rod trail are cool too. The music is nice and soothing. I think the weapon system could be overhauled quite a bit. It doesn't feel very satisfying at the moment because it seemed to me every weapon is just the same with more or less damage and different colors. There's no difference in fire rate. For example when I bought the assault rifle I thought it'd be an automatic with maybe less damage but higher fire rate. I was even more surprised by the slugger, I thought it would have a bigger spread but a poor fire rate. Weapon with high fire rate that are not automatic are quite rare, at least in video games, and it feels weird. If I'm gonna shoot oodles of bullets I'd rather keep pressing the button instead of mashing it madly. The canon was really satisfying in comparison. It is true that the game is a bit confusing at the start (I didn't get how the fishing rod aiming worked for a good while, and didn't move under water as well). I lost a lot of life this way, but once I started moving I barely lost any. I guess you could tweak the difficulty curve a tad bit. Another important point : the sound effect. The game could really do with different sound effects, it feels weird to hear a gunshot when you launch the fishing rod or when you get pulled underwater. Different sfx for different guns could be cool too. I don't really know what is the end state of the game, after I bought the canon there didn't seem to be anything left to do so I just stopped. Is the Blunder the last fish of the game ? If that's the case it could be cool to add a few more fishes so the power scaling feels more important. It's a nice game and a neat concept, though it could do with some polishing :) (obviously that's the case for almost all jam games).
Apr 25 08:03:57 47m 40s A Puzzling Combination ♥ 1 Very simple concept but very well polished. Nice art and sound effects, okay music, meh gameplay not gonna lie. I don't have much to say apart from that. Good job and maybe try to focus a bit more on the gameplay next time to change from your habits :P (I tried you last LD entry too).
Apr 26 08:13:51 24h 09m NecroGolfer's Tomb ♥ 2 Cool graphics, music and world. The concept is interesting too. Showing the controls on the UI was a neat idea. I personally don't like turning the view with the side keys so I wasn't fan of the controls. I didn't get what the end goal of the game was so I stopped after 2 or 3, hum... goals ? Dunno what it's called in golf. I couldn't tell what the special power did or what the difference between the 3 characters were. I also didn't get what was the point of the enemies, there didn't seem to have any bonus for killing them and they only attacked if I went very closed to them, so I basically just ignored them. So overall I guess the game could do with a bit more information on the mechanics and what you're supposed to do. You managed to put a lot of things in this game for the time of the jam so good job with that ! The game's pretty neat and if you plan to work a bit more on it, it could be even better.
Apr 26 08:27:08 13m 17s Fishy ♥ 2 I like the concept and it's a pretty chill game. Although seeing the scope of the game I think it could have done with a few addition. A command history and autocomplete could have been a good idea, retyping the same word 5000 times gets repetitive. Colors printing could have made it easier to read quickly what is happening. The core of the game is just typing 'cast' a bit more variety or input to the actual fishing would be cool too. I don't know the context in which you made the game or how much time you had and I guess the main goal of LD is to fulfill your own objectives, but I feel you could have done more in 48 hours.
Apr 26 08:37:47 10m 39s Ryth ♥ 1 I don't really have any idea how to rate this game ^^". It felt very unique/personal in a way which I found touching. The music is great too as many people have said. My main problem was the control. I'm not the best at rythm games but I can usually perfect the easier levels but here after the first level I got shredded, I think it was mostly the controls and not the actual difficulty. Although I like touch based rythm games, so anything with keys is already a bummer for me. The graphics aren't the best but I didn't feel like that was really a problem, the games blends pretty well together. I don't really know what you intend to do with the game but you could definitely do something interesting with it. I subbed you on itch because I'm intrigued what you'll do next. Good job and good continuation :) !
Apr 26 09:34:13 56m 26s YOU LEFT ME. ♥ 1 It is truly a great entry. The quality is top notch, I found it from itch.io and didn't think it was a jam entry at first. The mood and the graphics are perfect. You actually motivated me to stop tip toeing and start training my digital painting skill for realz (or lack of, for the moment). I think I played through every ending and possibilities (or almost) and it's rare that a Ludum Dare entry keeps me interested long enough for me to try out every nooks and crannies. I really like your style (the only part that left me a bit perplexed was the cat language :P ). I'll keep a lookout for your next works and subscribed to your youtube channel. On a totally unrelated subject, if you don't mind me asking, what tool did you use for your timelapse (I watched your video) ? I'm also on Mac and I used gawker and well let's say it's not great.
Apr 27 04:16:00 18h 41m Space Captain Rodriguez ♥ 1 I liked the graphics a lot (and the waifus too :P). I like the idea of different kind of ammo for different type of ennemies. Gameplay wise I do have a few gripes, for a SHMUP the player sure has a T H I C C hitbox and the bullet are really fast which kinda makes it unfairly hard imo. Also the menu navigation and the controls are the stuff of nightmares. Surprisingly for a jam game the sound didn't blow up my ears quite the contrary, even full volume the music was very quiet. Nice screaming SFX tho 👌. The game could do with a bit more of audio. Neat game, I do believe that a tad bit of polish (and different controls 😰) could easily make it an even more enjoyable experience ;). EDIT : forgot to mention the humour was pretty good too, funniest game I played so far.
Apr 27 04:28:56 12m 56s Rhythm Quest ♥ 1 This game is great. The graphic, the music and the gameplay all blend together perfectly. I'm not a fan of the controls but I don't like keyboard controls for rythm games so I guess that was bound to happen (when is the touch based android version coming out ? :P). I don't really know what to say since the game was really good. I guess all I'll say is damn you Pestus, I shall defeat you one day. Good job, this is a really good game !
Apr 27 04:47:56 19m 00s Ms Grunhilde's Sandwiches ♥ 1 Alas I get to play the bread game ! This game is really neat, the story, the graphics ❤️ , the SFX (that sweet sweet SFX) and the music. Too bad you didn't have time to implement an end state to the game, I'd have liked to have a reason to continue makin' dem sandwitches. By the way there's some fraudulous advertisment, she tells him she's gonna make him peanut butter and jelly sandwitch but ends up making him peanut butter and peanut butter sandwitch. I'm disapointed in you Ms. Grunhilde. Is she some kind of politician or what ? I really liked this game, imma sub you on itch.io, curious what you'll make next, keep on keepin' on !
Apr 27 05:06:08 18m 12s PlatSCII ♥ 2 The concept is cool, the game plays out really nicely. The music is really good and the sfx is fine. I enjoyed my time playing it. My only gripes are 1) the download was a bit of a pain, maybe host the game on itch.io next time, 2) the main menu is really confusing at first, I first downloaded it on my mac, didn't get *I was suposed to type the menu option*, tried rolling my head on the keyboard and clicking everywhere to no avail. Thought "must be buggy on mac". Downloaded it on my windows. Repeat. Then I saw enter and I was like "waiiiiit". Maybe if we didn't have to click on it and typing would directly write in the input it'd be easier to understand. Anyways congrats a really cool game, good concept, good gameplay, good polish 👌 (just a sprinkle of UX would be rad).
Apr 27 05:30:48 24m 40s Reverse ♥ 0 An ambitous game for a jam. Good job on finishing a playable version on time. The 3D models where really nice. I didn't get where the theme was lying at tho. If you plan to really release the game, considering it's scope, it needs some polishing on the controls, they are not bad as it stands, but feel a bit clunky. The audio could use some overhauling too, the SFX isn't super believable and the music gets repetitive quite fast. More the particle effects and animations would be cool too. I think the gameplay could be more fun as a coop split screen game, or maybe a faster paste solo. Overall good game but if you're serious about shipping it then it's still needs a good amount of work.
Apr 27 05:48:21 17m 33s Flappy Bird + Tetirs = FLAPTRIS ♥ 1 Nice game, the mechanics work well. I suck at both tetris and flappy bird so I didn't do so well. The intro shot is pretty cool. My only gripes were the *.rar windows only google drive download* (hard to beat that :P) aaaand the title, it doesn't sound enticing (yeah that's some pretty severe nitpicking right there but flaptris ? at best you picture a magicarp doing aerobics, and I said at best). The explosion sound could be better, and a little 'woosh' when you rotate the tetris would be cool. Otherwise the music went well with the game and the tetris sticking sfx was good. Good job !
Apr 27 06:08:36 20m 15s Seaman Sleuth ♥ 3 The writting was gold, first 5 on humour so far I guess. The level design wasn't tho, like really not O_O". Also the extreme repition of the same tile was a bit offputting even if most of the art was fine. It felt a bit empty at the beginning without any music or sound effects. The music once it started was fine but the sfx was a bit loud and annoying. The minigames were cool and it's neat you managed to build them, but the main gameplay wasn't great, like okay but nothing mind blowing. However including a platformer part with the current state of the controls was truly evil. Too bad you didn't have time to finish, the intrigue had some potential. If you feel like working more on it post jam that could be cool.
Apr 27 06:42:53 34m 17s Flappy Blocks ♥ 1 This is one of the best game of this jam, although I do hate you. Whole lotta hate. Highest rate of insult to the screen per minute so far. I managed to get to level 3 but after that man I'm losing my sanity. The writing is gold. The game works really well and is actually fun even if oh so painful. The graphics are cute and efficient (and that wing animation ❤️ ). I do have some gripes though. I'd like to see how many lines I've managed to get so far somewhere on that UI. AND THE MUSIC, the music is fine at first, but as the 3 notes that make it repeat unendlessly my mental health goes down the drain. It blends with difficulty perfectly to create psycho killers. Like if you want to polish the game please add some variety to this music, I'm begging you. You really did a good job, congrats 👌 ! (ps: I still hate you tho)
Apr 27 07:08:37 25m 44s DUNK EM UP! ♥ 1 Was hyped to play that game and I'm not disappointed. The game is really fun and that juiciness is really on point 👌 one of the best polish I've seen of the jam. I liked the voice sound effects too. For some reason it lagged a bit which is a bit weird since I was playing it on my msi. Sometimes the control felt a bit off but maybe it's due to the lag. Would have liked controller support, I think it'd make the controls more responsive. Maybe a tad bit more precision on the mushroom you want to target could be interesting (like with the mouse or the second joystick). Otherwise I haven't much to say because it feels like a finished game. I you want to add to it I guess it'd have to be additional features like more maps, local coop could be fun too I guess. The game's pretty much shippable in its current state tho. Great work man, I hope I can get to such a level of polish on a jam game one day !
Apr 27 07:41:44 33m 07s Rainy Day ♥ 0 The game is pretty hard but mostly in an unfair way in my opinion. The physics are a bit clunky and sometimes the holes just decide to become vortexes and gobble the ball when it's 2 centimeters away. The ball and rain sound effect are really good but the explosion could do with some particle effect and a better sfx. The 3D model are detailed and look good too. Some soft ambiance music could have been nice although I guess the rain sound effect is already pretty good. I don't really like this kind of game irl so I suppose I'm not the best public. Good job on finishing the game !
Apr 27 07:52:19 10m 35s Puzzle Golf ♥ 1 The game is really neat. It looks good, plays good and the sfx is satisfying as hell. Too bad there isn't any music. The level design is pretty well done and even if sometimes the puzzle is a bit confusing you can always reset it which was a good idea. Don't really have much too say apart from that since the game is good as is, not really anything to cut or add (except for a chill OST :P).
Apr 27 08:42:08 49m 49s TechNaut ♥ 1 So this is what it feels like to be spiderman with broken legs :P. I liked the game, it's very chill and peaceful. The rock grappling reminded me a little bit of some platformer parts in Gravity Rush. The music blends in nicely and the SFX is cool. I got stuck in one of the blue turning thingy for a while which was quite terrifying but I made it through. Reading the description it seems like I missed a few of my powers. Maybe add a quick tutorial screen, or the controls somewhere on the UI. Nice game and good job in finishing it in time !
Apr 27 08:58:55 16m 47s Rythm is Lava ♥ 1 I'm starting to suspect you are not human, your dev speed is unfathomable. Once again a good game, with good graphics, music and polish. I don't really like the weird red shape in the background, I don't get what it's supposed to represent. As some have said I think you can still improve your games readability, there's always so much going on on screen :P. I'm not the biggest fan of the main mechanics but that's more personal than anything, I do think the game is unfairly punishing by bringing the player back after failure. Especially if you're gonna do different difficulty levels, the player should get to choose how much they're gonna suffer (let us scrubs in piece). Btw I think I might have run into a bug, I failed twice a level in a row and got sent back to the beginning. Wonder what you'll come up with next jam, you pico-8 devil.
Apr 28 09:00:58 24h 02m CityDefense ♥ 1 The game looks really great, the music is very nice too and overall it's a solid game basis. I do think it could benefit a lot from polishing and a few features more. Indeed as it stands the game readability isn't the best. It takes a while to understand the game mechanics, and quite a bit longer to get that the resources aren't generated based on time. There's also a lot going on screen which can make it hard to focus on what is important. A pause mode or at least a slow mo could be cool (would need time based resources or would be too easy). When you don't have enough resources to build a building it would be very nice if the resources you're missing blinked in red or something, to know which resources is lacking. It's a bit tedious to parse writings on the screen as a hundred explosions are going on. I'd like to be able to understand better what each building does too (like a flavor text when you hover on the building button) that would blend nicely with slow mo to, giving you a better understanding of what you are doing. The further you play the more the music is drowned by the SFX (with default settings) I guess you can change that in the menu beforehand, but it lowers the readability too. I feel like there's much to expand on in an interesting way, if you're interested in continuing working on this project. This may seem like a pretty negative review but it's more based on what it could be than what it is at the moment : ie a very good compo entry, that runs well and has a very nice aesthetics to it. Good job !
Apr 28 09:15:39 14m 41s My Witch Shop (unfinished) ♥ 1 I like the graphics a lot and the current game seems like a promising basis. For what i saw input feedback was well done, firing had some intensity to it. I also liked your original idea. I hope you continue working on it and look forward to playing a more functional version. I do believe though, that in order to be fun the finished game would need a sustainable amount of content (items, monsters, levels ?). As some have already said it would be cool to be able to aim you shots (maybe isaac like, wasd to move, arrows to shoot or something like that). Good job and good luck for what you'll do next.
Apr 28 10:09:20 53m 41s Shipwrecked on Robot Island ♥ 0 The level of content for a jam game is quite impressive. The 3D models and animations look really nice. The music is very good too. I think you should have reduced the world space, it was fun at first but after a while got really repetitive, towards the end I was even getting sick of the music. I think it either needs more content or a smaller map with a tighter player experience. The combat can be enhanced quite a bit. The sprint isn't the most precise way to dodge, and it's SFX isn't the best either. The low amount of damage the player outputs compared to the great number of enemies doesn't feel very satisfying. Sometimes the camera gets a bit lost but it's pretty rare, however the player gets easily stuck in the map. I think that the enemies corpses shouldn't have colliders it just makes combat more annoying. On a performance level the game was actually surprising taxing, I don't remember the exact numbers but it took a whole lot of CPU and quite some RAM too. I could notice a lot of clipping for the trees in the map. This is a good game with a lot of potential but if you plan on shipping it it still needs some polish.
Apr 28 10:39:27 30m 07s Eggplant Kindergarten ♥ 2 Holy crap ! I never expected I'd enjoy this game that much. It's a hidden gem. Best tutorial I ever saw this jam. Stupid and a tad bit creepy but very efficient humor. God tier SFX and voice acting. God tier okay graphics but done in a crappy way. I don't know it that's what you were going for, otherwise I'd advise not doing pixel art but just regular line work with krita, photoshop or whatever. It would have looked crisper if it wasn't that aliased. Still works for the game tho. The music is good and just when it gets repetitive it switches to a new theme which is really cool. 5/5 eggplants fun fact, I learned much. I also must give a shout-out to the magnificent eggplant picking. The game kept me curious on what I was going to unlock next (I unlocked everything, and it was worth it). Congratulations ! This is the kind of perfect game for a jam, the play length is well paced, it's polished enough, it's fun to play, it's really funny. I'm impressed !
Apr 28 11:05:47 26m 20s FPSville ♥ 1 The second version of the game was much better than the first. The sound added a lot. The gun still didn't feel quite as satisfying as it could have. A better sound effect and maybe a reloading mechanic could have added a lot. Maybe seed projectiles ? Blood particle on hit would have been nice too, but I guess the goblin's hurt animation was pretty good. The game was pretty funny, even if the message on the UI were a bit all over the place. Maybe a bit of context could have helped too since you're just randomly murdering hordes of goblins and setting their houses on fire for no specific reasons it seems. Are we trying to steal their land to grow stuff on it ? I guess it was a choice but the game has no true challenge since there is no lose state. It is true that the game could use a better consistency in it's general artistic direction : 3d models, sounds and music. But this is due to time constraints. You asked feedback on level design, I don't really know how to comment on it since it didn't really feel like the level design was integral to the game. If you take *Super Meat Boy* for instance each level design serves the gameplay and gives a challenge, in *Dishonored* it gives you a lot of possibilities to go around and execute your missions. Here you could have replaced the whole map pretty much by a white plane and the gameplay wouldn't have changed much. It's not really that your level design was bad, it looked okay, it's just that as a part of gameplay it didn't have any real influence. Hope this is useful in some way. The mechanic unlocking feature was fun and I think if you managed to put in the farming mechanics it could make for a quite interesting game. Good job and good luck for what you'll work on next !
